Dear Kim Kardashian West,

In case you haven’t turned on your TV this week, or been online or on social media at all, then I’m sure you’ve heard about what the sweetheart of “America’s First Family” did recently.

(And please, I hope you can hear the sarcasm dripping from my lips…)

But good old’ Kim K posted a fully nude selfie on Instagram with just two minuscule black bars covering her goods.

Now. This is not going to be some bashing of Ms. Kardashian West. Frankly, she’s like cilantro: you either love her or you hate her.

I, however, am in the indifferent camp. I frankly don’t care one way or the other about her or her shenanigans.

So I’m not here to attack her.

But, this photo has caused quite the stir. I mean, even the great Bette Midler has chimed in with disapproval.

Personally, I wasn’t surprised. (Let’s remember how she got her fame, ladies and gentlemen.)

I could go on and on about how she has a responsibility to be a good role model. That she’s a mother and should be setting a good example for her children. How she’s objectifying herself. Being attention-seeking. Whatever. No. You can read about those things from any other myriad of blogs.

Not here.

You see, what struck me about the picture — and yes, it popped up in my feed, so I saw it — was the caption.

She took the picture in her bathroom (obvs.) and said “When you’re like I have nothing to wear LOL”

First of all: nice use of the correct “you’re.” Props, Kimmy.

Secondly: Who capitalizes their “LOL’s?” or is that only weird to me?

But here’s what I’d like to suggest:

You don’t have anything to wear…

Dear Kim: how about you try reading Ephesians 6:11.

“Put on your full armor of God.”

Bet you didn’t see that one coming! 🙂

I know, I know. Probably some eye rolls. That’s okay. I’ll take `em. This is one of my favorite passages.

thatssotrue_2156_1330278315-1
Be strong in the Lord and mighty in His power….Put on the belt of Truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the gospel so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith…Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

This passage really hits home for me. If you didn’t know, young women in recovery from eating disorders refer to themselves as “ED Warriors” — attacking ED and all his lies and advances. So all through my recovery and my weight restoration, I would often reflect on that vivid imagery.

It drums up so much strength. Power. Courage. It reminds me that with God, there is nothing I can’t handle. I envisioned myself putting on all those heavy pieces of armor, ready for battle. Because a battle it was.

We all have fights we have to be “suited up” for. Yours might not be recovery from anorexia, but we all have something that we’re up against. Whether it’s losing your job. Being bullied. Battling an addiction. Depression and loneliness. Or even “just” the stresses of day to day life. It is a battle out there.

We have been given the armor of God.

Yes, God will protect us and take care of us, but He’s also given us the tools – the armor – to empower us to be able to fight for ourselves too.

We’re not simply passive recipients of grace. We can stand up and fight the good fight for ourselves — and others.

Guarding my heart with His Truth. Dwelling in the Word of God. Staying grounded in His Peace. Guarding myself with Faith. If there was ever a “recipe” for recovery, or a life lived in abundance, that would be it.

Anywho, I will wrap this up so as not to get too heavy here for a Thursday night.

So Kim, I’m calling your buff…err…bluff. You always have something to wear.

      • I, like you, have no interest in Kim Kardashian. I missed the story of her nude selfie totally so I am only now catching up with this crucial development in popular culture! Of course she has made her name from her body and face so I suppose flaunting it is par for the course. Bet her kids won’t like it when they grow up though and see naked pictures of mommie all over the internet though..

      • Hey Caroline! Haha oh yes–a cruuuuucial development indeed 😂😂yeah. That was one of the first things I thought too…about her kids…thanks for stopping by and for sharing this great perspective! Hugs and love to you! Xox

  1. This what scares me about my teenager. She is into this stuff because the kids tell her about it at school (we certainly don’t promote it). I can only hope I gave her a good foundation, but the things kids see these day! This is pretty gross. It’s sad how much thought we put into these people. They are humans too…and most of them can’t handle the spotlight.

    • Hi Elle, thank you for this reflection. You’re right-I don’t think anyone really knows how to handle that level of celebrity. It would be nice if people used it for good. Sounds like you’ve raised your daughter with a good head on her shoulders ☺️ thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  2. I saw this I was not too thrilled to say the least… there is so many reasons of what she did is wrong… one thing that bothered me her saying she has nothing to wear..hmm think about some people in this world that have nothing and life is rough and this lady…omg saying this was just not right.

  3. Well stated. An interesting perspective. It should also be noted that in Gen 3, God clothed us to hide our nakedness, our shame. Throughout scripture nakedness is referenced as shame and disgrace. It’s funny how this world is so backwards and upside down from what it was intended to be.

    • Thank you so much! What astute perspective. I know…fig leaves much?? Haha but seriously you’re right. Thanks for offering this insight! Have a great night! Hugs xox

  4. Yeah, you. She’s so full of herself she doesn’t know how truly starving for a true dose of reality she is. All we can do is pray and hope they someday all find themselves in a reality in front of them, instead of throwing themselves at us all. She is now, what Paris Hilton was 10+ years ago. On the other hand, your amazing, real, and beautiful and you don’t have to throw it around like her.

  5. Is it bad that I hadn’t heard of this and I googled the picture? No, that just makes me curious =P I really like the quote you have “Fight like you’ve already won”
Having confidence that you’re already the best you can be and that is enough for your life, your challenges and for God is something that I need to remember.
    Great post xoxoxo

    • haha Thank you so much Ellie. No, it’s not bad at all! you’re right, that’s something I need to remember too. God loves us just as we are. And even though we are the best we can be, He always will have our back and uphold us in the storm. Thanks for stopping by tonight, love! Have a beautiful night! xox

  6. Love that scripture! Me and my son read, claim and even mimic putting on the armor of God before we leave our house. It’s powerful. As you said, it doesn’t matter what we are facing. We have the ability to put “something” on 😀. Some just put the wrong things on. They put on the lies of satan instead. Good post!

    • Hey Lana! Thank you so much! aw, that’s such a cute thing you and your son do. Cute, but very powerful. 🙂 you’re right — we can always put on that armor 🙂 thanks for stopping by! hugs and love to you xox

  7. Quite honesty I couldn’t care less about the Kardashians. But regardless I love the positive spin you’ve put on what is a pretty pathetic piece of media. Always love your positivity.

  8. Great post 🙂 You managed to disapprove of Kim Kardashian’s actions without resorting to name-calling which is actually a very difficult thing to do whenever the media is giving coverage to The Kardashians. A lot of people, who can not stand them have a harder time and even those who have mixed feelings about them will sometimes lash out, but I am amazed that you are able to be both witty and fair and balanced in your criticism 🙂 As for me, I could care less which means I do not love them or hate them. Your whole post was fantastic and nobody could improve upon this blog entry 🙂 Anyway, keep up the great work as always 🙂

    • Hey John, wow, thank you so much. I really appreciate this feedback. Because I really was trying to be fair and balanced. I cannot imagine what her life must be like with that level of celebrity, but I don’t think this was a good use of that notoriety. Anywho, it’s times like this that I have to remember that we’re all brothers and sisters and we all are dealing with our own “things” and we need to pray for eachother. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and for this great perspective. Hugs to you John! Have a great night! Xox

  9. Nice. Yeah its sad because there are a number of not just girls, but also moms who will lower their standards for themselves are their kids by garbage like a nude Kardashian IG pic. Let’s put on the armor and just deflect all this! Props for the smiling/lauging husky pic btw!

  10. For once, I am actually glad I have not kept up with the media recently. Kim Kardashian does, yet again, something so risky that she has to get noticed by the news. Which, by the way is utterly absurd. Great article stating my feelings nonetheless.

  11. good post, honestly I don’t even subscribe to a ‘feed’ or social media for this among many other reasons…not on twitter, facebook, linkedin, etc…nothing uplifting there…but you are quiet funny and I like your quirk 🙂

    • Thank you so much! ☺️ you’re right-social media can be a spiral of “not-great-things” — if it wasn’t a great way to stay in touch with my loved ones back home, is probably not have them. Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love to you xox

  12. Ironically this post really had nothing to do with Kim and everything to do with me. I felt compelled to read it. Though I’m not feeling 100% better, I am well on my way thank you.

  13. Heyyy! Spot on lady! The armour of God is truly the most empowering set of tools/weapons/dunno-what-to-call-them God has given us. After God dealt in a big way with my fears, His first lesson for living in this freedom was that I should live with the armour of God continually on me. It is truly the most beautiful dress a girl can have. It is surely the most flattering outfit in a Christian’s closet 🙂

    • Heyv Charlotte! Thank you so much. I couldn’t agree more–such a powerful verse and image. And amen! It IS the most beautiful dress! Thanks for stopping by! Hugs xox

  14. Reblogged this on God Sees Everything and commented:
    #WalkWithJesus

Eze,23:18 So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister.

Rom,8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Rev,3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

  15. This whole thing has me irked. Firstly I don’t like Kim or any of the clan. They have become famous and rich for nothing. I don’t doubt that they are probably talented or intelligent in one respect or another. But they all choose to use looks, sex and infamy to become famous. 1) Kim knowingly put a photo on a huge social media platform of her naked. Then said it’s no one’s business what she does with her body. I’m sorry did you think your account was private? No one hacked it, you put it out to the world! Expect comebacks. 2)Celebs came to her defense (including herself) to say she is being slut shamed for being proud of her body. I am against slut shaming but I don’t think this is it. While we are talking about Slut shaming, Kim’s own husband has done that to her for his new album when he brought up Ray J and her sex tape. And she’s happy to allow him to. As long as it brings in the money eh? 3)I truly believe there is something wrong with you if you feel the need to post nude photos like that. Attention seeking or something more serious I don’t know. 4) Other celebs came out against it saying she is a bad influence for young girls. I agree, to an extent. 5)To be honest my biggest problem here is that society has ALLOWED them to become famous, to be role models that we now want to give out about. I think it is up to us women as sisters, aunts, mothers, friends or peers to teach and raise girls that this is not how you need to act to be successful. It scares me how much influence they have over young girls and I’m thankful I’m not a teenage girl in this era. I think the media needs to stop talking about them. I think WE need to stop talking about them. Lets talk about Emma Watson using her platform to speak on Feminism and equality. Lets speak about Chloe Grace Moritz, Miley Cryus, Saoirse Ronan, J.K Rowling, Oprah, Tina Fey, and all the other successful females who have used their brains, talents & skills to become positive role models. The monster doesn’t go away if you keep talking about it. It starts with us.

    • Thanks Wayne! I appreciate that. ☺️ yep, I figured everyone had heard that sound bite regarding this, so I wanted to offer a fresh spin☺️ albeit a little cheesy😂 so glad you stopped by! Have an awesome weekend!

  16. I really enjoyed seeing this post this morning! I appreciated how you spoke on something so tasteless and managed to bring a very important verse to life with it! Plus, it was just the thing I needed to hear!

  17. If she dressed in the armor of God, she probably wouldn’t feel the need for such behavior. I feel as though they are all in deep need. What a mess the whole situation is. These types of antics are probably an outcry about other things going on amongst her other ‘family’ members who are struggling with mental disorders diagnosed or otherwise.
Dear BBB, I will also pray for you and your continued journey along the right path. Keep up the good work.

    • Hey there! thank you so much for the prayers:) i really appreciate it. you’re right — a journey it is. prayers are definitely necessary:) hehe thanks for stopping by! hugs and love xox

  18. Girl you nailed it! I just finished teaching this series in my children’s Sunday school group and you pretty much broke this down for me to teach my youth. “Fight like you have already won” Very encouraging! Thank you for such an amazing, humbling perspective 😘

  19. EXCELLENT POST MY DEAR! One can’t put on the whole (or even part) of the armor of God with an ego as big as Ms. Kimmy. It requires things like submission, dying to self, humility, etc. And I don’t think she’s ready. BTW…I LOL in all caps…sorry! 😄😄😄

  20. Love this! I love it so much! The images and little catchphrases are awesome. I don’t know how long it takes you to make them, but I really love them! You left me smiling. You also reminded me not to despair about what other people do or don’t do that I may or may not agree with. It is a constant challenge for me to try to figure out how to respond and react to the unceasing barrage of mixed messages and unhealthy, unbalanced, just plain distorted words and actions that surround me about eating, exercise, health, and body image. An even more difficult challenge is how to respond to everything I witness that completely contradicts my faith and morals. I really like your approach of conscientious indifference. All I can do is show my faith and values by my example and pray that it’s enough. Hope you have a great weekend!

    • Hey Lulu! Thank you so much! Aw:) I’m so glad you like my quote art! Yeah, it’s a bit of a labor of love, but I really do enjoy making them☺️ good–a smile is what I’m after! Amen to that–you do you and keep your eyes on Him! ❤️❤️❤️thanks for stopping by! Hugs xox

  21. I just love how you put a positive vibe to all this Kim K disaster. We need to put on our full armor of God.Because the battle is real. Only with God we can survive the challenges of life.

  22. I didn’t ‘role my eyes’ at the full armour of God! I love that scripture; especially about the helmet of faith. If it wasn’t for this passage, I’d have no helmet on at all! Some people laugh loudly. Hence LOL… Some have their mouths open, but you can’t here a thing. Hence lol… Some of us are both. I’m sorry you hate LOL’s 🙁

    • Hahah thanks so much for this response, Spartacus! Yay for helmets! ☺️ and hah you had me laughing at the lol humor:) have a wonderful night! Thanks for stopping by! Xox

  23. Why the surprise and revulsion? Kim is a lost soul and her choices reflect the pool she swims in. We are all lost souls apart from the cleansing and empowering work of Jesus. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Graham Cooke points out God’s glory is His Goodness. God shielded Moses from the brilliance of His nature when ..Moses asked to see His face. The Bible says God shielded Mose’s eyes sort of like wearing special glasses to see a lunar eclipse. Then God strutted His stuff. His goodness. God is good and none can meet His standards except Jesus. So what does God have to say about Kim? About me? About you? About the soldier that nailed Him to the cross? God forgive him/her because he/she doesn’t know what he’s doing.

    • Hey Jan. Oh my gosh I love this. So so much. You’re absolutely right-he forgives and loves his children. ALL his children. Thanks for this beautiful reminder. Hugs and love xox

  24. Praise God and congrats for this incisive, well-pointed post!

I don’t hate anyone. But I’m very grateful to God my mind is free from fixations on the daily doings of “celebrities”–including the ones that are simply famous for being famous (translation: shocking and sensationalistic). I’ve got plenty of other real challenges to deal with every day.

Souls steeped in and overrun by darkness reckon it as light. So, though sad, it’s not surprising that many are attracted to, even obsessed with, the depraved antics society is bombarded by without end or ease. It’s a spiritual sickness that feeds relentlessly on itself.

At first, I wasn’t sure where you were heading in this post. Yet, I’m so glad you framed this in a Christian perspective. You’re right, the secular op-ed pieces typically roll along the same sensationalistic track, usually either lavishing celebs in cesspools of praise or flinging them across the hot coals of public excoriation. It was very smart and good to shine a sobering light into the murky meanderings of Kim K., her peers and their drooling admirers.

I expect some folks WILL roll their eyes when believers in Christ like you and me speak about our faith and the relevance of God’s word in everybody’s lives. But the reality is that millions, even billions, of folks everyday worry about and spend tons of time, money, and energy on how we can beautify our outer appearance…yet by comparison invest next to nothing in the well-being of our souls. It’s like constantly adding fresh layers of paint, a new roof, and fancy shutters on a house that’s rotting at the foundation.

There are way more important things in life than posting endless streams of selfies (nude or otherwise), fawning over what complete strangers (who just happen to be in the limelight) bestow upon their doting subjects, or wading through bogs of self-delusion that being important and happy means being famous and self-absorbed. God loves us and put us here for a reason – not to perpetually find new ways to indulge our every depravity, but to love Him and each other. And the only way to actually love anyone is by speaking truthfully and living honestly before everyone.

  25. Love your writing:)

I hesitated to read this post though. Because, I don’t feel indifferent about Kim– my heart goes out to her. I used to believe that my body was all I had of value. This lie was at the root of my own teenage struggles with disordered eating. I believed that lie because the men in my life, the culture I grew up within, taught me that lie was truth.

Yeah, Kim isn’t doing anybody any favors with her addiction to exhibitionism. But honestly, what kind of woman posts photos like this for the world to gawk at– for free? A very very broken woman in need of having the lie exposed as truth.

    • Gosh thank you so much! I’m so glad you’ve found where your true worth and walks comes from:) yes, that’s a great way to feel about Kim. I can’t imagine what her day to day is like but my heart goes or to her as well. Thanks for this beautiful perspective. Hugs and love xox

  26. Great post & good comments. I liked being reminded of the Whole Armour of God here! (And that reminded me of my lovely friend Tommie whofirst talked to me about the Armour!)

  27. Instead of cringing about Kim, your story and delightful twist got me thinking…I’m reminded in Romans 14:11, It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’”
    And..that includes the Kardashians! 🙂

  28. Thankfully, I haven’t had my thoughts ruined by Kim Kardashian’s bits as she is not in any of my media feeds (pats himself on the back at good foresight).

Your riposte to her statement made me laugh (not quite laugh out loud, but it was a nice chuckle): ‘Dear Kim: how about you try reading Ephesians 6:11.

“Put on your full armor of God.”’

    Nice one from you, there!

  29. I love this article. I truly reminded me of the True RELIGION as stated in the Holy Bible. I reposted this and shared it. People may read because of the person you focused this article on ..but the true mission of the article is a blessing. Great read indeed! Praise the Lord.

    • Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked it:) yeah I never want to be scathing or put people down-but I did feel the need to touch on the subject. Thanks for stopping by! Hugs xox

  30. “Dear Kim: how about you try reading Ephesians 6:11.

“Put on your full armor of God.”

    LOVE this! Beautifully stated.

  31. I love this response to Kim’s little stunt. I’m pretty indifferent to most celebrities myself, but… it’s sad when young women feel they have to do things for attention. Its absolutely tragic when young women who already have attention, have to one up themselves for even more. I can only imagine how empty she must feel inside. If people prayed for Kim as much as they comment on her activities then she’d be clothed and in church LOL. Nothing against this post, though. I love your unique and refreshing viewpoints, BBB! If we had more bloggers like you the internet would have more substance.

    • Hey there friend! Thank you so much, wow that really means a lot. And gosh you had me laughing–clothed and in church! Hahah amen to that!! Thanks for stopping by ☺️ hugs!

  32. I almost didn’t read this one; if I so much as see a capital “K” I move on. But…it is YOU, so I read it. Actually quite good. You didn’t disappoint. Looks like I used the same “armor” verses as you did on this one. Great minds, eh?

  33. I love this post! It’s great to see you/God giving Kim a chance (I’ve only heard about what a disgusting nut she is, poor girl.) A bit of grace and truth can go a long way.

  34. Nice post. I don’t think she is an ideal female role model, but as individual we also have the choice whether to buy her products & follow her stories, or disregard them. I disregard them, because the same way one would not drink poison while attempting to live a healthy and fruitful life, one would not poison the soul by reading and viewing Kardashian-related material. Hope that doesn’t sound too extreme haha! Good post anyway 👌

  35. Totally didnt see the scripture coming lol great way to add God and your story to her situation !! I pray for the Kardashian family every time the Holy Spirit places it on my heart .As angels of the media industry it is our responsibility not only to address their mistakes but intercede for them so that God may get the glory from their shortcomings. We are not perfect and fall short of his glory but He is soverign and His mercy endures forever.

    Blessings,

  36. I really enjoyed reading this post. I love the unexpected segue from Kim to your topic. I enjoyed your humor. I often need to remind myself how to “dress” properly in order to meet the day’s challenges. May God’s blessings be upon you 🙂

    • Hi friend! Aw thank you so much:) I appreciate your encouragement. Amen to that! I always need to remember to “dress” for success as well☺️ thanks for stopping by! Have a beautiful day! Hugs and love xox

  37. I didn’t see the photo, thank GOD. Sorry, Kim, you and Mr W are a matched set of obnoxiousness. With regard to clothing, the full armour of God and a touch of humility (Col. 3:12) and grace (Proverbs 1:8-9) would be more attractive for both of you to wear. I find the current wardrobe choice (or lack of the same) extraordinarily unattractive, though you both have the potential to be lovely.

  38. Amen. This is spectacular. I hope that someday my love of the Lord and His word filters into everything, just like it has for you. I would never have thought of that verse in that instance, even though I do love that one. You hit the nail on the head. Thank you and God Bless.

  39. Reblogged this on untiring endurance and commented:
The author of this blog liked my post today, and in visiting her blog, I came across this post. It’s brilliant, and relevant. This is the type of real-life applications I’m hoping to relay in my blog. For now, please enjoy this awesome blog.
