Scam Alert

Welp, I got scammed.

Swindled.

They say a sucker’s born every minute, and well, that sucker…was me.

giphy-4

*Sigh* I am not proud of this. But alas, here goes…

Ever since my mom’s stroke, I’ve always thought that it would be a good idea to get a dog. A little source of positivity running around at our feet. A little therapeutic nugget for my mom to nurture and take care of.

So I did what any good millennial would do — and shopped for one on the internet.

And let me tell you — I found the cutest teacup poodle. Yes, teacup poodle…as in, it fits…in a teacup. It only gets to be about 3 pounds. More squeak toy than ferocious fido, but the perfect little bundle of canine joy.

I was in contact with the seller. Made travel arrangements. They had a beautiful website. I had read the reviews, seen multiple photos of this dog, talked to the guy on the phone. Even had a tracking number for little Gabanna’s flight.

Complete. Scam.

And as if the humiliation of my stupidity wasn’t bad enough…I had already paid. In full.  In cash.

If you hear that, it’s the sound of my stomach dropping and splattering on the floor. That and the shattering of my dignity.

giphy-5.gif

The company was called “NewLife Poodles” — so just a heads up if you’re in the market for a glorified hamster. Beware.

But as I was putting away the dog crate and chew toys, and returning the puppy food and leash to the pet store, I couldn’t help but reflect back on the lesson I learned here.

And I’m not simply referring to the fact that one should not buy a dog on the internet.

[[ I know that now…]]

Driving around, feeling really bummed out, having gotten my hopes up about this dog, I just couldn’t stop thinking about one thing — what type of person would make a living lying to people about puppies??

giphy

I mean, how does that person sleep at night? How can that person look in the mirror, knowing that they’re just blatantly taking advantage of people’s hearts and wallets.

What do they do, wake up and think, Who’s the sucker gonna be today?

giphy-2

And after a quick little stint of being angry, I began to feel sorry for that man.

And, maybe I should’ve been a little more angry, but really, my heart just broke for that man, thinking…how did he get there? How did things get so bad that he had to resort to being a con artist, scamming innocent people about puppies, no less.

It’s a sad, sad thing.

Thinking about it more, I realized that I’m passing all this judgment on this man, and the fact is, I am really no “better” than this con artist.

Granted, I might not be scamming people on puppies, but I’m guilty of my fair share of horrible things too.

How many times have I thought a judgmental though about someone? Lost my patience or had a quick temper? How many times have I been passive aggressive or said something hurtful, that I knew would hit in a particularly sore spot.

The answer? More than I’d like to admit.

I mean, look at the manipulation and lying and hurtful words I spewed during my anorexia.

I am no better than that puppy scammer.

Who’s to say that the crap I’ve done in my life is any “better” or any “worse” in God’s eyes.

I think it’s really timely that this came to a head on Easter weekend.

Because the fact is, Jesus took on it all.

The puppy scammers, and bedroom door slammers, the gossip slanders. Everything.

In the grand scheme of things…it’s just a dog.

Sure it makes me mad, and it’s unfortunate, but I’ve got to just keep things in perspective: no one had a stroke. No one died.

And even though I want to rip that guy a new one, I know that what I should do is pray for that man.

I’m not there yet…

But, if Jesus can die on the cross for those who put him there, then I can let this go.

Perspective, Caralyn. Perspective.

[And yes, I did report it to the Better Business Bureau.]

  1. wow…anything I am thinking is too judgmental, hence putting me in the category with the scammer 🙂 The best and worst thing you can do is pray for this man. Best for you and him because the Bible tells us pray for our enemies, those that would do us harm. You would be doing what God wants and if the puppy scammer is willing(free will and all) he will turn is life around. The worst thing is if you pray for him and he doesn’t use his free will to turn his life around, well my friend, the punishment God will inflict on this man is worst than, you, me, the better business bureau, or any other thing on this planet can do to him. I can say, I am sorry this happened BUT I can see it as another Divine exam for you. Will she be forgiving and pray for this “enemy”, put her faith in Him, ooooor lol. I’m betting you will do what He wants you to do;) :):) hugs xoxxo

    • hahaha thank you so much. Yeah, that is definitely a tough one. Because it’s hard to pray for those who hurt (and steal from!) you. Ugh. Gosh, these tests…. 🙂 JK JK…bring them on!! 😉 thanks for the encouragement and thoughtful response! big hugs to you xo

      • This is a good thing. God only gives us the exams that He knows we are READY to pass 😉 He doesn’t set us up to fail. So, just think how well He thinks that you’re doing right now, and how much faith He has in you right now to be able to pass this test 😉

      • yes, well that positive twist is just as much for me as for you because this was a crappy thing for a person to do. Who cons people over puppies. I have to believe that there is a higher purpose for this. If not, my thought process goes to hell is going to be full 😉

  2. Takers get the Honey Givers sing the Blues- Too rolling stoned- Robin Trower- Takers have to keep taking to get their fix and it is progressive so they have to keep thinking of more elaborate ways to keep getting high-It’s an addiction I believe

  3. I recently downloaded a meme that said, “Don’t judge someone for sinning differently than you do.” Ouch. Touche. And you’re a better person than I am for feeling sorry for him and wondering why he would do such a thing. (I have my theories…)

Note to your followers: PLEASE ADOPT, DON’T SHOP! Millions of unwanted animals are “euthanized” (read: killed) every year. (Sorry, this is a passion of mine.)

    • I love that so much – it really gets right to the point — don’t judge someone for sinning differently than you. amen. And you’re right, adopting is really the way I should have gone in the first place. Thanks for sharing that. big hugs ox

  4. How awful! I’m so sorry. But well said! We’re all sinners in some way.

The last time someone stole some money from me I was mad, but than I felt bad for them too, and eventually I got to the point where I realized that money was all they had, the only joy, the only reward they were likely to get in this world. Then I actually started to feel bad that is was so little, that I didn’t have more for them to steal. Seriously, a thief that picks on me is a pathetic thief, indeed. Here I was enjoying mercy, grace, salvation, redemption, healing, forgiveness, peace….and all that guy had was some money. I really got the better end of the deal.

  5. About two years ago I tried to help someone I met online. I allowed money to be transferred into my account, waited about a week or so, withdrew it and then sent it via western union to them. Sadly, it took the bank over a month to catch the deposits weren’t real. Total I lost 2 grand. I know what it’s like… Just for trying to do what I thought was right for someone in need.

  6. There’s something else to consider here, which is at what moment did his illusion take over your visualizations? If you can isolate that moment, usually you’ll find an aspect of your personality that can be strengthened.

    • Interesting thought. I guess I’m not sure, Brian! I’ll definitely have to think about that one tonight.something to ponder indeed. thanks for the great perspective 🙂 hugs xo

  7. Uggh such a personal violation. I hate scammers. One thing is for sure, they prove the reality of sin. I mean, they aren’t criminals due to lack of education or opportunity. They have smarts and skills. They just choose to use them in an awful way.

Thank you for your reflection from a good faith perspective. You’re right – when it comes down to it we all participate in the rebellion against God… there’s no “ranking” the different ways we do that.

Sorry you went through this, though.

    • they choose to use them in an awful way! Yes!! that’s what makes the situation so sad 🙁 Thanks for the encouragement. You’re right — no ranking at all. thanks for stopping by. big hugs xox

  8. Speaking as someone who has dedicated many years of my life (and the condition of my house, and a potload of money we can ill afford) to dog rescue, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON’T BUY DOGS ON THE INTERNET! If you want to know why, just google puppy mills. Or I can send you information and links – enough to make you gag.

A lovely website means NOTHING – and frankly, in my book, the fact that that man scammed you makes him better than someone who would have sent you a dog. Why? Because you’re human, therefore by definition you’re empowered. You can do research before making a decision. You can make choices. If you make a poor choice, you can bounce back.

The kind of person who sells puppies on the internet may keep a hundred or more dogs in hideous conditions, pumping out puppies until their poor bodies give out and they’re dumped or whacked on the head with a 2×4. Often the puppies are sick, or have congenital problems, or have psychological issues due to poor socialization, so you still get scammed… but more than that, those dogs are powerless.

And no, when you speak of them, it’s not okay to say “it’s just a dog”. I know that’s not what you meant, okay? I do understand you were referring to your own loss. But I still want to make the point: from the dog’s point of view, they’re never “just a dog”.

    • Thank you so much for sharing this. You’re right, i should have been looking to adopt in the first place. I will definitely do that in the future. That just breaks my heart. Those poor puppies. Gosh. thanks for bringing this to my attention. big hugs xox

      • Thank you so much for this response. After posting I thought I may have come across as really condemning and heavy-handed. That wasn’t my intention; I figured you didn’t know and I’m just a tad passionate about it, as you’ve probably guessed… 🙂

You can find pretty much any breed you want through rescue. Sometimes it takes patience, if you’re really set on a specific breed, but if you’re flexible and just looking for a buddy to love, he or she will be out there. Sign up with petfinder.com and adoptapet.com and you’ll see pretty much everything that’s available in your neighborhood.

Also … while I’m in the mode of dishing out unsolicited advice … maybe reconsider getting a puppy? Sounds like you have a lot on your plate at the moment, and although puppies are darling they are a lot of work, and then they become adolescents, which are a LOT of work… 🙂 You might be better off with a dog aged 2-5 who has had some basic training and can adapt to your lifestyle. Just a suggestion… 🙂

      • Not at all!! i love the passion!! my friend is really into rescuing dogs too. i should have thought about that in the first place. I guess it just didn’t register. It will next time though 🙂 And that’s a great tip about getting an older dog…especially for my mom. 🙂 thanks!

  9. I can’t imagine what that man might spend all that creative energy on that would benefit the world. He is investing a lot of time scamming when he could use that time for good.

  10. I am so sorry this happened to you. First of all, this is one of the reasons I personally do not support pets for sale because of the greedy breeders that make a business out of them. I always advocate adoption as it is such a win-win for the shelter and the dog. I have 3 dogs, all wonderful, all adopted, and cats as well. I can see why you turned to this idea to feel better. They give me so much joy. But, back to topic, I admire your attitude about this unfortunate event. You are focusing on the learning and exercising self-awareness. I know this experience will not deter you from trying once more to add a dog into your life. So worth it. I hope you consider adoption next time. Stay humble and positive and be extra smart. Happy Easter!

    • Thanks so much for this reflection. Sounds like you have a beautiful pet family 🙂 I think adopting is what I should have done in the first place. thanks for sharing that 🙂 same to you! hope you had a beautiful easter! big hugs xox

  11. Yeesh! They used to advertise these on the inside covers of comic books when I was a kid, back in the Devonian Period. Tiny little dogs sitting on teacups, or on the palm of someone’s hand. Sometimes it was a tiny little monkey instead. God knows what you would’ve gotten if you’d ever actually sent a check or money order. You think the genuine bona fide 3-D glasses were a ripoff… This would’ve been worse. Much worse.

  12. I”m so sorry for your loss. I had a friend who was philosophical about people like that. Her theory is that it wasn’t her job to judge. Pretty much like you say. There’s another saying that when you point a finger at someone, you have three fingers pointing right back at you.
I hadn’t thought of the puppy mills though, they would be harder to detect via online. I’ve seen those before or something like it. They are pretty sad. My daughter just bought a dog online recently. I hope it will be okay. It was a tiny one like that. Kind of furry, but it was an apple head chihuahua. Supposedly. She did get delivery on hers.

    • Thanks Jolie. I like that – three fingers pointing back at you. now that’s powerful. Aw, that sounds like a cute dog. Yeah, I’m glad she didn’t get ripped off! thanks for stopping by and for your kind words. big hugs xox

  13. Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m sorry you had to go thru this but what a great learning curve and your choosing to share it. I too, have seen the quote ‘Don’t judge people because they sin different to you’ and I agree that there’s no point in ‘ranking’ our sins. Thank you for being so gracious and for letting others learn this lesson too. It’s not the story that got me thinking but your attitude to it. Thanks again

    • thanks friend. yeah, it was definitely a great learning opportunity for sure. definitely going to go the adoption route next time! I love that quote. thanks for sharing 🙂 big hugs xo

  14. No better than the puppy scammer? Girl you are RE-CHIN stop it! That person went through a lot of trouble to scam a few bucks. Hopefully, they needed it that bad but doubtful. All that brainpower could have definitely been put to use in a more legit line of work. Keep writing, but stop the tree-pose reaching…

  15. bumz! sorry that happened. today’s lessons are so costly and you’re wonderful for sharing your experience, as it’s sure to help other millenials. love your forgiving take on the matter! very inspiring.

  16. So sorry you were scammed. People do awful things to each other and to animals. As others have commented, please consider adopting a rescue rather than buying. I work at an animal shelter and advocate for homeless animals. There are also breed specific rescue groups. In general, I don’t trust anything on Craig’s List anymore anyway!

  17. a bad person, will do bad things, and a scammer will scam whom they find. being victimized doesnt make you stupid. the stupid lies with the perpetuator. while they are now a scammer, you are invited to bounce back from this bad experience graciously, as you have. that scam doesnt define you, it does however define them. sending you hugs and healing so you want them.! #StrictMotivation

  18. Aw I’m sorry you got scammed! Honestly I didn’t even know you could buy pets online, but I know that when I get a dog one day, I’m picking one up from a pound. They need a home more than anyone. ❤️ Kudos to you for maintaining perspective! (And reporting to BBB. They’re legit.)

  19. We all have our own crosses to bare. The “cross” is karma. There’s a saying about karma, “It all comes back in the end.” People think they are getting away with something, but they really aren’t. This is where the sadness should come into play–sadness for the ignorance that this guy actually believes he is getting away with something–he isn’t. None of us ever do. We just think we do. But, karma, sin, whatever you want to call it, always comes back in the end. There is no escape for our misdoings–ever.

  20. What a blessing to read you now 🙂 I love the openness with which you share your thoughts and feelings. You are always this open space and light of limitless awareness. Thank you, Caralyn, my precious friend.

  21. OMG! I’m so sorry. I was also scammed in hopes of getting a cute puppy in my life😒. I’m so glad to hear how you put a positive spin on your situation! Kudos to you!✨

  22. I think it’s always difficult to deal with disappointment of the emotional kind. It’s pretty easy to get over disappointment when the department store has run out of the last bottle of the perfume you like, or the taco truck is out of elotes for the day. You know that you’ll be able to score some in a few days. But a new puppy — your heart is all aflutter anticipating the wonderful memories you’ll make — yeah, that would be kind of hard to forgive immediately. And yet, as you pointed out, our Father forgives us of SO MUCH MORE. Wonderful blog post. Thank you! 🙂

  23. I’m always late to the party, but here goes. Your local humane society may not have the cutest dogs in the world, but they are destined for a one way trip to death if someone doesn’t adopt them so no scam involved. Also, there are tons of animal rescue organizations to find and rehabilitate abused dogs. One of the kindest, sweetest dogs I’ve ever met was a rehabilitated pit bull (no, they’re not all bad). She died recently because of a heart ailment, but she was playful and loving. I literally trusted her around my grandchildren, and believe me, I have trust issues.

The internet is wonderful, but it’s also loaded with land mines. Maybe you should go old school on this one.

    • Hey James! Thanks so much for this thoughtful response. You’re right- I should have gone with a rescue pup in the first place. Aw sounds like a sweet dog. Hugs and love xox

  24. So sorry to hear of your experience with the scammer. It hurt to be a victim of any kind. I feel for you. Great attitude in facing this hurdle in life. I hope that I will have a similar outlook on the experience if this happened to me.

  25. Sorry to hear about the scam. So many scam mine fields out there. I swear, if “there’s a sucker born every day”, it seems there’s two scammers born. Sad times, the dishonesty and dishonor of the day.
By the way, nice job on the blog site redesign. Looks great!

  26. This is how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. Moving us toward understanding and forgiveness. It is wonderful to see in each life and in your life.

  27. There’s also a succor borne every minute. It has been said that loving our enemies is impossible, but that’s not true. It *is* possible… but it will hurt like nobody’s business.

  28. Forgive the language but bullshit. You are guilty of being human, we all are, we make mistakes and say things we shouldn’t. You are guilty of being sick, and when that happens we seriously say and do stupid things (and knowing you, you are still apologizing to those you said the mean things to. It’s why we love ya)

These SOBs are scum who go out of there way to hurt and chest people for money. Nothing you have ever done puts you in the same time zone as these jerks, let alone in the same league.

I am so sorry kid, it is not fair for your trust to be dashed like that….

  29. I am so sorry …not fun to be scammed. Safely it takes all kinds to make this world. It’s amazing how some just do not have a conscious. In like you .I am not surprised you feel bad for him and want to pray for him. You are such a beautiful person .in happy you do not let this world’s stupidity change that about you .Hugs!

  30. Oh my Caralyn not good. Only a dog that meant something to you. I have had two for quite a while and they do become part of your life. God sees and knows what you need and when you need it. Am sorry it happened to you. If you learn you are wise and knowing what I do of you – you will learn. Hang in there you are worth it. And more because of his Son you are priceless in God’s eyes. Thanks for sharing part of your real life and another peek at you. John

  31. Sorry to hear about your experience. I just got an idea to write about my experience being scammed after reading this. I was technically scammed twice, as if once wasn’t bad enough. How do people sleep at night knowing what they are doing? I honestly don’t have the answer but people will do anything for a buck or two.

      • Scam 1) A hair salon scammed me on campus and I fell for it. Should have realized something was wrong when the girl invited herself into my room with a debit machine ready to go and Scam 2) a “friend” from high school convinced me to join her MLM company. I ended up losing money from it. I call it a scam mainly because they rely mostly on recruiting people, not from sales alone. My focus was sales so I ended up breaking even at most, $2000 later. Basically you gotta pay to play. Plus its not ethical just to recruit people and get them to dish out a base fee and extremely expensive monthly fees just to stay active. My husband convinced me to get out of it and I never heard from her again.

      • Oh gosh that’s just awful!! I am so sorry that you had to go through that!! Scams are bad but when they’re from “friends” it’s salt in the wound! 🙁

      • In conclusion, we aren’t friends anymore. I had to block her mom’s number and her sponsor’s because they wouldn’t leave me alone.

  32. You are correct. Perspective…doesn’t feel good but take it as a life lesson and know that God allowed it as preparation for the future. There are lots of scammers in variety of shapes and sizes, much less evil and wickedness. “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” He comes to steal, kill, and destroy…the soul and your blessings. Pray about everything and let the Spirit guide you. Just a opportunity to thank God for His preparation and future protection. I believe God is pleased with your prayers to His glory!!!

  33. Aw girl… I am so sorry! Especially that it went so far that he has your money 😢And yes of course you are a better person than I criminal who scams and steals, it is hard to not judge all the time especially in a situation like this. The fact that you even thought about that sets you apart completely. I hope that the stars end up aligning and you are able to get a sweet new pup!

  34. That story is crazy. I’m sorry you went through that. You are an amazing person to be able to relate and empathize with someone who stole from you. Being raised by a cop and spending a lot of time with telemarketers and con artists, I have no such pity in my soul.

  35. Awwwww. I am so sorry!!! Hugs!!! I know NYC has plenty of pet stores, but do they have any kind of rescue shelter aka Humane Society? That would be the BEST place to get a dog from, if you aren’t totally turned off. We had one from a local shelter that lived all the way to 16 and now we have 2 more, a bro/sis pair. That’s where I would look. More hugs.

    • Thanks John. That’s nice of you to say. I still have A LONG way to go in that department hah One day at a time 🙂 thanks for stopping by and for your encouragement. big hugs xox

  36. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me

We all get scammed every now and again but not with the same scam if we learn from it. The internet is an easy way to scam others. But its not the only way and not everyone is deceptive. Some people may not even know they are being conned.

One thing ive learned about online shopping, I only use credit cards or a legit online service such as PayPal. That way if someone were to scam me, there will definitely be some kind of investigation and I would get my money back. Never pay in cash. The idea of using cash as a form of online payment is pretty sketchy anyway, with the modern world. The days of dial up internet and Windows 95 it would most likely be common but if any site asked for cash, id close the page and clear my internet history but not before reporting the site as hinky.

Anyway as others have mentioned if you are looking for a dog check the animal shelters, they need the most help. I had gotten a cat from there, but he passed but later on found a kitten wandering my old apt complex, shes now 12 still a handful but shes in a good home.

    • You’re so right! this was definitely a learning opportunity. Yeah, the cash should have been a big red flag from the get go. Looking back, I can’t believe how dumb I was about that…And you’re right…the animal shelter will be our next bet 🙂 aw, I’m glad your cat found a good home 🙂 thanks for stopping by! big hugs xox

  37. First, I love the new cover shot of you on the street. It’s very good! Of course my response is at Patreon. I trust you’re back safely in your apartment. Feels good, I imagine. Be well!

  38. Sorry you got scammed, it happens and you have a heart of gold for being so forgiving any way you want to call it. Some people learn to just let go, I am one of those people but it takes work, lots of work. I want to say that I follow your blog and the truth is I am not a believer but you seem to have a way with your words that holds me there. Great spirit! I really admire the strength shining trough!

  39. I really like your new avatar photo. It is great. I am sharing a comment I intend to use in an article later, so please don’t quote me just yet. I am not finished with the idea so far.

“Every act of conscious learning requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one’s self-esteem. That is why young children, before they are aware of their own self-importance, learn so easily; and why older persons, especially if vain or important, cannot learn at all.” – Thomas Szasz

Maybe he had some sense if he led a movement against the shrinks. Humility is willingness to be depressed—children, like he says, don’t have a reputation to uphold. King Saul was like a child before he was given a position of honor. He learned to like the honor of men, which destroyed him. King Saul is not the only one that has fallen to that temptation.

    The quote looks super. I looked him up, and he was Humanist of the Year for 1973 or something like that and a professed athiest. He fought the psychology establishment because he thought that they were bogus and controlling everybody just by pretending to be scientific and using scientific-sounding names (you can’t argue with THAT!), and that just because they “got there first” to define conditions or words, it didn’t make them right or a valid authority. He said you can’t prove mental “illness” as an actual illness, since it didn’t appear on a cellular or biological level, and that the psychology establishment should not be allowed to hospitalize people, even schizophrenics, without their consent! But he did believe that mental “illness” was a moral aberration, not physical, and that a mental illness should never be allowed to be an excuse for a crime. He thought everybody alike should be punished if they did something wrong, even schizophrenics. (In that belief he was unlike most Humanists, who think there is no right and wrong.) He believed suicide should be legal, but not euthanasia or assisted suicide, (if I remember correctly) since there might be abuses. No kidding! In other words, he may have been true to his beliefs by taking them to their logical conclusion, but his beliefs were pretty far out there for his time. Some of his quotes about the non-scientific nature of psychology, for future use and reference. They’re delightfully incriminating. (-;

  40. My dear friend,

It is great that you could give understanding to that scammer. Normally we judge and handle people as if we were better – but according to Jesus story: “The was a prositute Magdalena and people wanted to stone her. Then Jesus Christ came and and asked them: Who is free of sins may throw the stone first…” – noone threw the stone… It is compassion with our fellow-human beings when seeing them committing bad deeds – therefore to pray for them, to have good thoughts for them is the answer, should be our reaction. This is another lesson you could pick and learn from… My full appreciation for that, dear friend 🙂

    hugs
    Didi

  41. Oh my gosh, I love the way you write. Mainly because I feel so many times you are writing exactly what I would say or think. But you say it better and much clearer. I hope to get to that place where I can express my feelings on paper the way I think them. But for now, I think you’re saying them for me ha ha😊

  42. Ouch!

But you are right. You are only out some money. That poor Bast@#D is losing his soul. You may suffer some financial pain for a while but he will suffer unimaginable pain for eternity unless he repents and changes his ways.

I have often thought that part of hell may really be like the spirits Charles Dickens wrote about in a “Christmas Carol”. (This was the best ghost story ever written.) The spirits of the damned floated above the earth, observing people like those they could have helped during their lives but were now, in their ghostly state, they are powerless to help. In their ghostly state they could only look on in misery at people whom they longed to help but could not.

I hope that you alerted the police or the FBI (interstate crime?) about this scam. Perhaps they can prevent others form suffering your pain.

Forgive but don’t forget. Don’t become bitter but learn from your error. Never buy anything over the internet with cash. Use a credit card and you will have some protection. Vet small business the best you can. Use Pay Pal, eBay, Amazon, and other places that have reputations to protect, whenever possible.

None of us are better than the puppy scammer but that doesn’t mean we should lie down and roll over and play dead while they rob us.

He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” Luke 22:36.

Jesus knew that there would be a time that His people would have to defend themselves. So don’t seek vengeance (that is for the Lord); but, seek justice.

He hath shown thee, O man, what is good: and what doth the Lord require of thee but to do justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Micah 6: 8

Justice is a command. But so is mercy. Pray humbly that God would reveal to you how to act justly in this situation and how to show mercy.

Do not seek vengeance; but, rather seek justice and show mercy where it is appropriate.

    God Bless.

    • Thanks so much. Yeah I did report them to the Bette business bureau. And you’re right- the fact that they wanted me to pay in cash should have been a humongous red flag. Ah well we live and learn. Great passages. Thanks for sharing them with me:) justice and mercy – two sides of the same coin. Hugs and love xox

  43. Hi
Another sensitive post and looking at Jesus role in our redemption certainly adds a levelling perspective. None of us deserve to benefit from his sacrifice because we all sin however knowing we sin and showing repentance means that we do have the chance for salvation.
All of us daily start in the same place, just as the robber executed with Jesus repented and received the promise we can all do the same, however we still have to face the consequences of our past today. Your account of the scam tells us that you have reached a place where you leaving judging to others. Remember harsh words and intolerance are not criminal but scamming is, so perspective is we hate the action but not the person. The warning shared is a great gesture.

  44. Oh no! Well, we all learn everyday. Hold on to the lesson you just learnt. Sometimes, the still, calm voice cautions but we may feel “what can go wrong? Everything seems so right” Let it go. I’m sure that you will get a cute puppy at the right time.

  45. Whom do I need to beat up, slap, or otherwise seek for justice in? Grrr. God says to forgive, but also allows me to help others learn their lesson. 😡

    BBB

  46. Good insight and application of the fact that all of us are sinners for whom He died. 🙂 Hope your Mom is on the mend and finds a good puppy to keep her company.

  47. I’m really sorry to hear that you got scammed in this way. I had heard of this type of thing going on but never first hand. I’m in the market for a dog too and spend a fair bit of time looking at images of sheer cuteness which come at great expense, but this has confirmed my decision to visit a rescue centre and see who picks me.

  48. Oh, that is terrible. Sorry for your disappointment. But so beautiful that you can see it as a lesson in forgiveness.
I hope that God finds you the most adorable puppy dog ever …

  49. Wow such a great lesson in life. Way to look at things! We all have offended others in so many ways. When we look in the mirror we don’t always like what we see. I know I have had a hard time looking at things I’ve done in the past. Knowing how wrong I have been and knowing the forgiveness I have received from Jesus gives me patience with others and compassion. Matthew 4:44 says that we should love our enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. Knowing how much I have hurt others in the past helps me to appreciate the love I now feel towards others, and receive from others. I can see the same thing in your heart. Luke 7.47 says we can tell who has been forgiven of allot, because they love allot. It takes allot of love to look into someone else’s heart and see that they are lost and pray for them when they have just taken advantage of you, and mislead your trust. Peace and Grace be multiplied to you my sister, in Jesus name.

    • thanks so much for this thoughtful reflection. you’re right — 4:44 is definitely easier said than done, but it is what we’ve got to do! That’s definitely an area of work for me 🙂 thanks for stopping by! big hugs xo

  50. So sorry you were scammed but so glad you are using having been scammed to deepen your Christian life. When you can forgive and move on go to a shelter and let one of the homeless dogs choose you. You’ll be glad you did.

  51. This is terrible! Yes we all think things or make judgements about things or people, part of our humanness, but that doesn’t make you a scammer, sociopath who steals money from people who are expecting a dog to add to their family. There are many people who need dogs (or cats) in their lives for various reasons and this person or people have learned what emotional buttons to push to steal money from unsuspecting people. I know someone who was hurt by an internet romance scam, and she began to say the same things about herself. (What makes me different than that person, etc) You, would never intentionally hurt someone or steal from someone. If you are truly judging someone or gossiping in a hurtful way, thats something you can check yourself doing and make changes, but please dont be too hard on yourself about being scammed. Let the people who stole from you keep the burden of what they did. Your anger is very appropriate. Thanks for letting us know this is happening out there. Big huge hugs!!
(Side note: There are lots of great rescue dog organizations.)

  52. Wonderful that you can see the lesson for yourself and a way to grow spiritually through adversity at such a young age. I was bordering on geezerdom before I realized that unbridled anger and fury was not a constructive response to being cheated or treated badly.

    Thanks for sharing!

  53. I’m sorry you got scammed! I had a similar situation when trying to sell a refrigerator (Craig’s list was a new thing at the time). My bank caught the scam before I wired them money that they were going to “give back” to me. What was I thinking?! Anyways, I’m sorry about the obstacle in getting an adorable dog. Are y’all still looking for one?

    • Hi Meg, oh no! I’m so sorry you can so personally relate. getting scammed is no fun at all 🙁 No, we’re kind of taking a break from looking, and reevaluating the decision in the first place… haha thanks for stopping yb! hugs ox

  54. You nailed it. I may not be an outward murderer or adulterer but my inner man needs cleansing as much as the vilest sinner. How many drops of gasoline is acceptable in a bowl of soup? How does one lustful or judgmental thought defile a person? God looks at the hearts of people and from that viewpoint we are all on a common level, our only hope is grace. Thanks for sharing!

    • that’s so so true. I’ve never heard that saying about gasoline in soup but my oh my is that true! thanks for stopping by and sharing your powerful perspective! hugs ox

  55. That is so kind of you to think about that person instead of just being angry. That truly shows how sweet of a person you are. I would still report them and comment on any sites they have just so people are aware. Someone could be saving up their money like a little kid and end up swindled.

  56. 🙁 aw this is awful, I’m so sorry for the upheaval it caused you. I love your take on it. When you can’t forgive – putting it into God’s hands to forgive and judge the person is a great idea! You don’t have to shoulder it all – that is what trust and faith are in our lives for 🙂 thanks for reminding me! However, I’ve worked in a lot of animal shelters in my time and there are always dogs there in need of loving homes so don’t give up on finding that little packet of love and joy yet! Puppies are heart-melters and always bring warmth to our hearts but I always also ask people to consider adopting an adult or older dog too. When you adopt an adult dog you know what personality the dog has and often the dog is already house-trained and has a calmer, steadier temperament 🙂 maybe there is a local rescue near you? x best wishes and hugs xx Em

    • Thanks so much Em! You’re so right – i’ve gotta put it in His hands! and you’re so right – adopting a dog is definitely what i should have done in the first place! hugs xo

  57. I am sorry to read about this terrible scam incident. I too have had my fair share of being swindled. It is not fun. Praying for your mom, I hope she improves.

  58. On an aside, my parents raise and sell puppies. On the internet even. But they’re for real 😉 that being said and being familiar with the business, short of actually going to the farm and picking out a little fur bundle of joy I don’t think there’s any real, easy way to know when it comes down to it. So don’t beat yourself up too much about getting scammed.

My understanding of the cross has been totally shifting on me, and with it fresher and fresher revelation of Father’s love for people. We like to say there’s a special spot in a not so nice place for people like that but the reality is Jesus prayed for and blessed his enemies, which by the way, we all in our minds believed we were his enemy before he dealt with our adamic nature. The reality of Jesus dieing for the people who put him on the cross isn’t just the son of God begrudgingly going to die because he knows they might change their minds afterward, it’s Father and Holy Spirit and Jesus bundling themselves up in humanity to be with us and in us and adopt us, and be with and in and adopt people like that so on the note of hell (and I don’t believe there is or ever will be such a place as far as many Christians believe in, but that’s another story) there is a special place for people like that, and it’s in our Father’s heart longing for them to come home and join in the celebration. Someone asked incredulously if murderers would be in heaven to which I respond yes! But transformed by Father’s love, for we were all murderers, liars and theives.

Aaaaannyyywaayyyyyy (: Father’s love. I pray for the freedom to let Father be Father in our minds and to understand more and more the scandelous freedom that is His love for us, us being everyone and not only the select few who have all their ducks in a row and check the right boxes on the offering card. End rant.

    Happy Tuesday Caralyn!

    • Thank you so much for this thoughtful response, Carson. You’re so right – Jesus set the example. He loved His enemies and prayed for them and *died* for them. I mean, how much clearer could He get about the topic!Yes! Let Father be Father! amen to that 🙂 thanks for stopping by! and i hope you had a great Easter! big hugs to you xox

      • The thing was, they were never *his* enemies, they were always sons and daughters desperately in need of salvation and a recreated nature, the only animosity was only ever in *our* minds as a result of sin, evil was an invention in the minds of Adam and Eve authored by the tree of knowledge, everything was good but as soon as we tasted the possibility of evil it twisted our whole perception to begin looking for things not good in a yet-perfect world.. oh to see the world as Father sees it with his eternal pronouncement of ‘good’ still echoing..

      • Buut anyway, haha, I always do this don’t I…. ‘okay, I’m done ranting..’ and then 20 minutes later it’s like ….oh yeah… haha. I had a lovely and exhausting Easter (: how about you?!

  59. Girl, God has literally been saying the same things to me about a situation this week! It makes me think of a phrase from a book I once read, “but for the grace of God that could be me.” *to clarify: not to say we’d be puppy scammers but that we are only righteous because of Jesus* Praise God for his perfect love ❤

  60. This is a good reminder to this pastor that scoring sins isn’t how it works. It’s certainly easy to fall into that trap, isn’t it? The OT and the NT are pretty clear that no one is righteous but I still want to point at others!

This was the topic of one of the best conversations I ever had in a confirmation class. Surely the heinous sins are worse than stealing a paper clip from school! The results may be worse but the sin is still… sin. And we’re all guilty.

Thanks for the reminder (but sorry about the rip off)

    • Thanks so much Lance. I like how you put that : scoring sins. So true – one is not “better” than the other. Jesus paid for them all! Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. big hugs xo

  61. Okie dokie then…i will not shop for my favorite ball of fur online. I live in Mexico and I want a docile doggie, one that does not shed, one that was bred for joy, a Bichon Frise. Sorry about your loss and thankful for your post. God bless you and your mother.

  62. Sorry to hear of the scam and rip off. Unfortunately it is becoming an all to often familiar story. I have not yet had the misfortune (and I pray I never do), even legitimate online vendors are many times to be taken with a grain of salt. Descriptions of items can be very misleading.

As for your reaction,I am a work in progress. I would be furious with myself but agree getting mad at them has no value. I often hear “Christian” comment ‘I can’t believe that person did that’. Really as depraved as the Holy Bible says man is apart from Christ, personally I can’t believe mankind does not do worse.

  63. So what I like about your posts is that they are honest and true and full of faith and hope and compassion. You look at all sides of a situation and opt to be a living testimony of forgiveness, of understanding, of faith. The beauty is knowing who you are on your journey.
I don’t know how you have not found someone to just love you for who you are. I enjoy the complexity of your posts, the emotional journey, the thought process and the subtle lesson of learning to be better at the end of them.

  64. Caralyn, I am so sorry you got ripped off! However, I am not sorry that you love someone enough to try to help them by buying a dog, I am not sorry you gave of yourself for a gift. I am not sorry for the time you spent and invested in searching for the gift! I am not sorry for your excitement and doing something good for a fellow human being!

I am not sorry that you loved enough to take a risk. I wish you did not have to face all the feelings that you do of being scammed and disrespected. It blesses my heart when you said you should be praying for the person but you were not there yet! Loving your enemies is tough. You are a brave person you took a risk! You are on a pilgrimage to love that has many directions intended and unintended. Your love plan did not work the way you intended this time.

I encourage you to be brave, strong, and courageous, and continue to take risks to love. Maybe you should not listen to me either I am on the Internet too! A failed attempt at love is better than any success in protecting yourself from the risk of love.

This is written by one who is trying to make decisions on whether or not to engage in the love plan again, very cautious this time though. I hope you have learned some safeguards on the web, but I hope you Continue to wildly love In a Lavish Way, like Jesus loves you.!

    Your web friend,
    Denny

    • Thanks so much Denny! Yeah it was such a crummy turn of events. Thanks for your encouraging words. I love the positive perspective 🙂 i needed that tonight! Thanks again for being such a source of light and goodness in my life! big hugs to you. God is good! hugs xox

  65. You’re right – the fact that someone feels the need to scam people about puppies, and is ok with scamming people about puppies, is sad. I honestly feel sorry for him and whatever is happening in his life that makes this a viable option in his opinion. Easy for me to say – I wasn’t scammed. Your ability to see past the fact he did it to you and still see the sadness in this speaks to how genuine you are.

  66. First of all, contact the police on his end. Then, I believe it is the Secret Service that investigates telecommunications fraud, so give them a call. Now that you have been victimized it is time for you to take that away from him. Stand up Miss BBB and fight back. God Bless, Mark (I don’t give my name out a lot, but you should have a name to connect this advice to).

P.S. I worked in crime analysis for a long time and know about this crime. If you don’t get law enforcement after him, he’ll just change his business name and do it again and again. Also, if you have any emails from him, save them as the authorities can track the IP address.

    • Thanks so much for this heads up, Mark. I am honored that you would share your name with me 🙂 you’re right- I’ve gotta stand up! I did contact the better business bureau, but I should also contact the police. Thanks for that. I will definitely take further steps. Hugs and love xox

  67. What a terrible thing to happen! I would also be angry with the dude and seek some kind of retribution even if it be in the way of reporting him to the tribunal who takes care of this business. I’m sorry that you didn’t get your puppy.

  68. Sorry to hear that you got scammed, but do not give up on your dream of getting a dog. Have you considered a local animal shelter that you can visit in person? Giving a new home to an unwanted animal can be very special and rewarding in its own way. We have three pets, two of them from local rescues. They all bring us much joy.

  69. Oh no, what a horrible experience 🙁
I agree, who on Earth makes a living by promising someone a puppy and then taking their money?!

  70. I love this post, and how your feelings towards the perpetrator of this scam changed over time. It is something I try and work on when I feel or think a negative thing about another person. Having read a great deal about mindfulness and compassion over recent years I have been getting better over time appreciating that, at the end of the day, we are all just human beings who want to be free of suffering, who want to be loved and who want to be safe. Sadly circumstances make this harder for some people than others, and so I do try, really, really hard, to remember this when the mean thinking rises and try instead to feel compassion for their plight. This is not always easy, (I’m still just Hunan after all) but trying at every turn to be compassionate is definitely a better way than not. Thank you for sharing this important lesson 🙂

    • Thank you so much! You’re right- compassion is tough, and easier said than done and definitely something that I have to work on. Thanks for your encouragement. Hugs and love xox

  71. I really wrestle with the notion that you suggest you are no better than the puppy scammer in reflecting on your struggles with anorexia. As an introspective person that tries diligently to understand others’ experiences and where they come from, I can understand your conclusion. Still, did you willingly take from others in a deceitful manner meant to rob them of their trust for you, their money, and their respect? I can see where you might answer yes, but I would suggest that your challenge with anorexia, whether it stemmed from self-image difficulties or something different (as I do not presume to know), I simply have struggle equating the two. Yet, what you have forced me to do is entertain the idea that our character is reflected in a multitude of ways, and we can begin to acknowledge how we may affect, even hurt, other people by the way we treat ourselves, feel about ourselves, and project our being into the world. Thank you again for a wonderful post, and I admire your vulnerability and willingness to share the inner-most of yourself.

    • Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. You’re right, it’s tough to equate the two. And you’re right- our characters are multifaceted. Thanks for your kind words. It means a lot! Hugs and love xox

  72. There might be a difference between sinning and knowing you’re sinning. On this, everyone might be different. A twisted upbringing, life experiences and personal choices under pressure can create a twisted sense of right and wrong. And maybe some people are just born with defective or weak moral centers in the brain. Who knows?

So I agree, only God can judge. At the same time, we need opinions. We can’t just let everyone do whatever they want. An age old tension between not judging and keeping individuals protected and society running…

I really like your new banner btw. Ironically reminds me a bit of the cinematography in the movie Taxi Driver. Be careful out there in the big city! 🙂

  73. Wow BBB,

We are in those times alright. However, your last inforgraphic said it all. A tree let’s those dead things drop. Why am I holding on to dead things God is removing, right?

    In Christ,

    Gary

  74. Exactly – But we as humans are born into sin and sin will always be present until the end when God removes it all. What matters is what we do with that sin and how we handle the entire situation. A sin – is a sin – is a sin from what I was taught.

  75. I’m sorry to hear that you got scammed by an unscrupulous petstore owner or some one passing as one. Please go to your local ASPCA for a pet. They may not be the type of dog to want but they need a home too. Good luck and God bless you.

  76. Easy up yourself, you a little too trusting, con artist like this one become experts at tricking anybody they can
It is sad that we have to learn the hard way, even I have been tricked in the past and willing sent cash by Western Union to Africa!
Then found out the check was worthless and ended up with a empty bank account and overdrawn – double whammy

    • Thanks Graham, yeah I’m a little too trusting. You’re right. Oh gosh I’m sorry about you know the spoils of that too. Thanks for your kind words. Hugs and love xox

  77. Dear One, Yes–the ‘never give cash’ thing is the key. My friend told me that another sophisticated scam involved Craigslist and google earth. The scammer created a house out of thin air (but it was a real house too). They used a picture of the house from google earth, then added a fake interior on the listing and got about 7 people for thousands of dollars each as a vacation rental…. The saddest story involved 7 people loaded in a car for a 40th birthday surprise—the bday girl blindfolded as they pulled up only to see a big sign that said “Attn Craigslist Scam….this house is not a rental…” Blessings on your ‘recovery’. Be well, Michael

  78. I’m sorry to hear you were scammed. Your thought pattern is all too familiar; angry one moment and then humbled the next. Perspective. And I like the new look too…

  79. Don’t feel bad, I, too, was scammed. You’d be surprised by the levels of scamming in our world. Sometimes they’re masked with pretty words and the scam isn’t revealed until much later. Sounds like your puppy scam was a painful lesson to the pocket, but you’ve done well to turn it into a lesson of great value for yourself and otehrs, @beautybeyondbones! The dead leaves dropped and new sprouts have formed! Nice post! ~Nisti K

  80. I’m sorry to hear this….although having looked at the webpage I have to say there’s nothing that would raise a big red flag. But still, a hassle you didnt need 🙁

I hope you find a lovely little guy at the local shelter 😀
    xoxo

  81. I’m so sorry that happened. But, for me it’s rescue only. No one should breed or buy while so many shelter animals die. Just my opinion as an animal rescue person. Peace.

  82. Wow! What a rollercoaster of emotions! I’m so sorry for your tremendous disappointment and heartache. I know the feeling of chagrin (mixed with a bit of shame) that accompanies the realization of having been scammed. I’ll never forget the time I was living in DC, and this very nice, very charming woman talked me right out of all the money in my wallet on the National Mall. Even at the time, I thought that her story was far-fetched, but she spun a good tale, and she seemed to be in such need. In retrospect, when I recollected my senses, I couldn’t believe my stupidity! Ugh! But, whenever I think of this event, I try to tell myself that it’s better to make mistakes of trusting people and being charitable in thought and action than the opposite. Only God knows the whole story.

It’s ok to be angry at the guy who scammed you. After all, God created anger just like he created the rest of our emotions. You’re still choosing to forgive him, which is more of a conscious choice than a feeling, and that’s the important thing. I once heard a priest say that when we are still embroiled in our pain or stuck in the thick of whatever the negative situation is, and it is too difficult to pray for those who hurt us (or sometimes, it is too hard to pray for our neighbors, or ourselves when we are overwhelmed), we can ask the Holy Mother, our guardian angel, and the saints to pray for those people for us. We can also pray for ourselves (and ask our heavenly intercessors to pray for us) that we might have the capacity to pray for those others.

Thank you for another brave post. Happy Easter, Caralyn! (P.S. I hope that you find an even more perfect pup for your family!)

    • Thanks Lulu. Yeah it was a really crummy situation to say the least. Yes! There is power in prayer! Thanks so much for your encouragement, Lulu. Hope you had a great Easter as well! Hugs and love xox

  83. Love your enemies. Pray for those who spitefully use you. I think we all know that’s a beautiful ethic, in theory. But when you’re the one spitefully used, it’s hard to do. I love how you came around to empathizing with him, stopped yourself from judging him, AND reported him to BBB. You can love someone without letting them get away with it. Great job.

  84. So sorry to hear about this — I hope you don’t give up your plans to get a dog completely!

It might not be worth the effort to you, but since the BBB is a private business that has no regulatory power, consider filing a complaint with your state’s attorney general, consumer protection division. I filed against an Arkansas company (though I’m in Canada) and they actually did pressure the company to return the money.

    • Thanks Monica. Yaeah, it was a pretty crummy turn of events. Oh really!! I had no idea that the BBB couldn’t really do anything. Hmmm, I’ll definitely look into taking more severe measures. thanks for the heads up! big hugs xox

  85. You know, certain functions have imaginary zeroes or roots. Possibly your glorified hamster exists in some other parallel universe but not in this one. Good thing you did not get upset about this whole ordeal. In the mathematics, a simple answer is, when certain zeroes are complex numbers (as of the imaginarial nature), no solution. But, reality is what reality is. Sometimes imaginary solutions are real solutions to people with good imaginations. Comedy would never be comedy without travesty. Refinement would never be refinement with suffering, albeit intense. Life would never be life without death (as, disappointment, death to an idea or venture.) The measure of life only becomes relevant in the possibility of death. Thus, risk being real, entails a dichotomy of life/death case scenario. I don’t really know what I’m saying here, and there is really no need to say it other than you seemed to be apologizing for some of your wrongs, which would show a sense of humility. In that case, congratulations. If it is not the case, then I take back my congratulations, as you well know I would. I don’t give freebees, and I don’t ever intend to give to another more than deserved, or less for that matter.

    • such a fascinating perspective. thank you for sharing that. refinement wouldd never be refinement without travesty. now there’s something to think about this sunday morning!! hugs xo

  86. I’m sorry you got scammed. I also almost did with the puppy thing. It was the attitude that tipped me off. They were pushy and impatient. I think it’s okay to be mad about the injustice of that. I like what you are doing with your blog. It looks nice. BTW, do you have a post on anorexia and how you overcame it? I know a couple people who have that. One is about 13 years old. So young. I don’t want to trigger you, not sure this would and I don’t mean to focus on your appearance. But you look great. Do you watch your weight anymore or just focus on other aspects of life? I still struggle with my body image a lot and when I feel insecure I want to go on a diet.

    • Thanks, yeah it was a pretty crummy turn of events! and thank you for saying that. i’m sorry you know some people who are going through that. i really just try to focus on being healthy and loving life and seeing myself through God’s eyes. I do have a lot of posts about that — I guess How Did I Recover is a good one. And Body Positivity Week??? is another one that talks about it, as well as The Truth About Bloating in Recovery. Those are all good ones on that topic, and you can just type the title into the search bar on the side 🙂 thanks so much and I”ll definitely keep them in my prayers. big hugs xx

  87. I agree with feeling sorry for that scammer, but not your self-degredation. Every human being is valuable, but your conduct is vastly superior to that of a con artist.

  88. I imagine that if you get into his head, you would find an elaborate systems of justifications for what he is doing to extract money from people. As you suggested, we all do this (act first, rationalize later), but just on a minor degree. Are you more sorry for the lost hope of a pet, embarrassment, or the cash?
    Oscar

  89. Im glad you are doing your part to spread awareness! Im also glad you aren’t calling for the townsfolk to grab their pitchforks. I love the compassion you showed for this man despite his thievery. That’s Jesus working in you. It’s beautiful!

  90. What a beautiful perspective. Having compassion and empathy is the more noble choice…it is the choice that not only heals you, but also heals the other person. People only act in “bad” or “negative” ways because they are unwittingly repeating the past abuse they received. Through your compassion, you break the cycle of abuse.
    xo
Thank you for sharing your words, dear one:) xo

  91. sorry that happened to you. you were just too trusting. we all wake up to the evil that is in this world in different ways.

next time, arrange to see the puppy before you purchase. stay local.

stop beating yourself up over this. you are wiser now. at least there was no real puppy harmed by this scam.

  92. You’ve probably already heard this a million times, but have you considered a trip to a animal shelter? I’m not gonna get all preachy about it – I just think that, hey, if you’ve got the toys and bowls and everything else…why not have a look?

  93. We’ve all been scammed one way or another, not always financially, sometimes by just being naive.

I love seeing all your beautiful new photos after your earlier problems!!

      • I don’t think your naivete is a downfall. It is simply your big open heart. Treasure it. Embrace it as part of your Divinity.

Having a trusting open loving heart is the basis for being a spiritual leader. The world desperately needs open hearts like yours right now, so we look to you for guidance as we evolve into the kind of world where there is no need to question anyone’s authenticity.

If you/we can imagine a better world, then a better world is coming.

        Keep being amazing, lovely! xo

  94. Sorry you were scammed. The person who scammed you may have been a sociopath and / or narcissist. People are of different soul groups. The person who scammed you was probably a young soul, many opportunists and people with no morals amongst this group. Mature and old soul groups have higher moral standards. The higher one travels (if reincarnation is a factor) the choice are wider but the only appealing one is Love. My teacher Bhante was fond of saying that for every person who loves they nullify the hate (and divisiveness) in ten other people.

  95. I am so sorry to read this. I got scammed once too, not that bad, but I spent 120 euros on a fake mcm suitcase. I thought I was the best bargain hunter and then I spent a lot of money on a piece of fake trash. It happens to all of us. We are all human

  96. Wow! That lesson went full circle. Good for you. I honestly don’t think I would be so calm. I’m still learning my lessons, even though I write about some things I’ve overcome, that’s something that is hard. I hate for people to be ripped off and taken advantage of. You have a food heart.

  97. Sorry you were taken for a ride! It is normal and ok to feel the emotions we’ve been blessed to feel. I admire you took it a step deeper and wondered how they got to that point. It’s a wonderful thing to ask because except for the grace of God there goes I. The only thing separating us from being like ‘them’ is nothing. We are them except for the transformative work of Jesus Christ. In salvation we take on ‘the mind of Christ’ and transform our minds by the renewing with the word of God. And even in that, in this skin suit, we’re still prone to fits of gossip, jealousy, ignorance.

I’m glad you posted this and I had time to read it. I actually had an incident this weekend in which I said I didn’t really care for a person, and suddenly, God is in my business (hahahaha) asking me why I have it in for that person, challenging me to look at myself. A part of me had to admit I thought that person had it easy and they were a bit ‘extra’. Only the Lord asked me ‘why shouldn’t they be?’ I made you uniquely only you hide it. Ugh. I didn’t like it.

  98. Wow! I’m so sorry to hear this😔 But on the positive side it makes for a great post! Definitely a motivation for a new blogger to keep getting better 😊

  99. Yaaayyy the BBB!
    (That’s the Better Business Bureau).
Ahhh what the Hey… Yaaayyyy for you too 🙂
Nice post, you might not be ‘there’ yet, but i reckon your heart is pretty much in the right place!
(Just left of upper middle centre – no? 😀 )

    love.

      • No Worries 🙂

Oh – i forgot to say before… I’ve been around kwiiiite a while now and have met many, many people and i can say without a shadow of a doubt: You are way, WAY better than a puppy scammer – trust me 😉

That was a pretty darn low thing to do and i’m thinking it was not the first time either.. Just loooooow. 🙁

        love

  100. Hey new person. I think if there’s anything to learn from this it’s not about who you are or who this guy is or even contacting a breeder online. There are plenty of reputable breeders available online for all kinds of pets. (I got a puppy that way as a kid). Personally I wouldn’t recommend it because no matter how reputable the breeder is, if you’re doing a through the mail situation you don’t get to see the animal’s personality before you buy and with a breed like a poodle that’s actually pretty important. Tea cup versions of anything tend to have more health problems too, so that’s something you really want to research. But more than that buying anything legal in cash or being asked to do that is a sign of scam…You want an electronic trace for a purchase like this. Also, I wish more people knew this at this point…The Better Business Bureau is full of crap. They have no government ties. They are a for profit company that rates businesses based not on customer satisfaction…but the money they pay for in membership. Businesses that do not pay for a membership, automatically get a low rating. Conversely, ones that do have a level of protection from customer complaints. So it’s really just luck of the draw. If the scam artist you’re dealing with paid for a membership…chances are your complaints wouldn’t show for long.

(This here is a much better bet with a case like this…since a law has actually been broken.)…because if the guy who scammed you did actually pay for a BBB membership, he would likely be safe until it could be proven he broke the law.

    • Thank you so much for this great advice. you’re right, i think we’re going to go the adoption route from now on. thanks for passing along that information. hugs xo

  101. Wow, this post is so open and life changing. When I read tis post ‘Jesus friend of sinners’ by casting crowns came to my mind. That song really changed my life. What others do to you doesn’t count because it all comes down to how you take it. But when you do something to yourself, that’s bad. Jesus taught us something. To lend out a hand that is willing receive and forgive. Not a hand that is going to put the hammer down and judge. I’m no saint. I have found myself judging others all the time. But there is always room for a change in the way we live. We often forget that we are in different shoes. Who knows what decisions we would make if we were put in somebody else’s shoes. Pray and forgive is what we are supposed to do. Let us leave the judging to the one who loves most and knows it all. This really was an eye opener. Your view of this situation encourages me to be a better Christian.Thank you so much and God bless you. . .
