Something’s Gotta Give

I’m having one of those moments where I literally feel like I’m floating.

And no, there are no illegal substances in my body. Although, I did just eat some cotton candy grapes, and I’m convinced that there’s a magic ingredient in there, because those things are unreal.

But I legitimately feel lighter than air.

Ever since my mom’s stroke back in December, family has obviously been top priority. We’ve come together as a unit and dug in for the long haul. I’ve been home from NYC for the last four months, and just this past week, my brother and his wife moved two houses down from my parents in the neighborhood we grew up in.

Talk about an amazing couple.

And so this weekend, my mom and I threw her a party to welcome her to the neighborhood.

That party was today.

And it was amazing.

giphy-8
But not for the reasons you may think.

There were about, oh…20 young women there. Just starting families. I didn’t know any of them, as I haven’t lived in my neighborhood in close to ten years and it’s turned over since then.

But the incredible thing about this party today was how God showed up.

This was not a church-sponsored party. It’s not like my mom invited her friends from her bible study. This was the neighborhood. A mix of people from all over, who were brought together this afternoon solely by their houses’ proximity.

And can I tell you, just about every conversation I had today came back to God.

Yes, I talked about my faith in public.

And it’s not like I was on some sort of evangelization mission. Goodness knows that I am pretty bashful when it comes to talking about religion. But it just kind of came up.

And I learned a valuable lesson.

People want to talk about their faith.

The cultural climate is such that faith and what we believe has become an off-limits topic. The intense scrutiny for political correctness and hyper sensitivity for being offended has created a society where we just don’t talk about what really matters … like God. Morality. Right and wrong. What we believe in.

And so we shut it down. Keep our faith behind closed doors or confined within the walls of a church, and our society is redlining as a result.

But newsflash, y’all: People want to talk about their faith.

could not believe the enthusiasm that these women had for the Lord. And I would have never known had we just passed at the checkout line at the grocery store, or waved in passing.

Faith is out there. And I think people are so hungry to share it, and connect with people on a meaningful level.

I mean, by the end of the afternoon, a neighborhood bible study had been planned for this summer.

And none of that would have transpired, had the topic of God not been brought into the conversation.

And it got me thinking – if this trend is true for the neighborhood…what about the community? The city? The nation?

What would happen if we all stopped walking on egg shells and tip toeing around certain issues, and just decided to be bold and speak up about our faith?

How would that impact our little corners of the world?

Because real talk: our culture is in a moral free fall. And not even morality…even just human decency. Something’s gotta give.

How would things change if people started to talk authentically about God?

Because if we don’t, then who will? If we don’t open up a dialogue, then things are going to keep being swept under the rug, or tip toed around, until eventually, it stops having a place in peoples’ lives at all.

We’re doing such a disservice to future generations by not talking about the things that matter. Living in such a way that we’re straight-jacketed into never uttering anything that has a moral point of view because it may upset someone…we are to blame for the vomit-stained state of our country.

If we don’t start standing up for what matters, it’s going to stop mattering.

Think about that.

If we don’t keep God in the conversation, He’s going to become irrelevant in the eyes of the masses.

People want to talk about their faith. There is such a deep yearning for an existence that means something more.

And it starts with you and me. Starting a conversation. Making people feel safe to talk about God.

God is attractive. And this party today demonstrated that.

I dare you to talk about Him this week.

You up for the challenge?

  1. We’ve got a crippling fear of sharing our faith that needs to be jettisoned from our hearts like bad mayonnaise. Thousands face hell daily and we worry about social rejection. I confess this flat-out. Thank you so much for putting your finger squarely on this. May we all receive courage from Christ to share his light.

  2. I am a JW and love to talk about my faith. God is the reason we are all here, move and breathe. WHy wouldn’t we want to talk about him??? SO good read that others want to discuss the Bible and Christ and all that he has done for us. Great job here lady

    • Thanks so much for sharing that. you’re so right – He really has done incredible things for us. We have so blessed. thanks for the encouragement. means a lot. big hugs xox

  3. What a wonderful experience you had. Sometimes I think that the anti or non religious among us are so loud or strident that their influence becomes far greater than their actual numbers. You have shown that in at least some places those of faith remain in numbers that should make us more influential than we are.
    And challenge accepted!

  4. If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
    Mark 8:38 NIV

  5. Great writing! I despise political correctness and all the ‘sensitivity’ crap. Today it’s just not cool and acceptable to speak of our Christian faith, such a taboo which is so sad and ridiculous.

  6. It’s interesting that sometimes this social climate seems so anti-religion, that it makes sense people would crave it more! I think maybe people are tired of suppressing it, I hope faith makes a comeback 🙂

  7. Caralyn…you made my day. Reading your post reminded me of Joel 2:28-31. Also that Darwinian evolution of the last 150 years did us the service of stripping away the hypocrisy of attending church because it was an expected social norm instead of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ we would be willing to give our lives for.

So glad you experienced the liberating freedom of the Holy Spirit that can be so natural and free of fear when we discuss our faith…I think that will be characteristic of our witnessing during this Joel 2 period…naturally honest and bold and genuine.

I am excited just thinking about it. God bless you.

    • Aw, Barton, thank you so much! I’ll have to look up that scripture! I really appreciate this thoughtful reflection. i think you’re right — there is liberating freedom!! big hugs to you xox

  8. In the South it’s much more often that God is woven in to conversation. I love it! What study did you all decide on? It sounds like a really fun party.

  9. Love love love this post!! You’re exactly right. I learned this lesson about a year ago, when I was blessed to spend time with Tim Tebow. He has such beautiful, amazing faith, and the way he talked so openly about it made me realize exactly what you did. He and his foundation, as well as some incredible friends, helped me become more open in my faith. That has changed everything.

  10. I’m so glad the experience of talking about God with your neighbors was such a positive one! when I think back on my own experiences talking to people about the faith, I’m kind of surprised that the stereotypes typically don’t hold up. what I mean is that you’re right, people are interested. maybe they aren’t interested in changing their minds, but they might be interested in knowing yours. and that is at least a dialogue.

  11. Another reason why I love you. Thank you for that post. Yes. We need to share. For me that is our Catholic Faith from a perspective that embraces the Sacraments of Eucharist and Penance, that emphasizes the Real Presence in the Consecrated Bread and Wine. I don’t mean to rant, but you catch my drift?

  12. This is something I try to do once a week in my discussions with people. Most of the time it’s discussing theology and Christian ethics/philosophy with them! It’s challenging and it drives me to dive into the word more! As John Piper said: Don’t just give the bible a touch, but swim in it. And in those discussions, I’m able to steer it towards sharing the gospel

  13. I don’t it has anything to do with being politically correct, a phrase I’m really starting to despise. Since when is it politically correct to treat people decently? I think it has to do more with people feeling judged by those who forget that they haven’t always been at the foot of the Cross when they talk about their faith. I think if people remember Jesus was a humble man and God is about love and forgiveness; and not judgment. People wouldn’t mind talking about faith/God. But so many forget they are fallible human beings and haven’t always been at the foot of the Cross and there is a whole bunch of stuff in all those closets. You’re right we are in a moral crisis but those who believe are just as much to blame as everyone else. People are/were being pushed away because of the hate, judgment, politicizing of God, and hypocrisy that is not God like; and people just got tired of it. So yes people want to talk about faith but the Church has to take some responsibility for the current state as well.

    • thank you so much for this, Tammi. i really appreciate this powerful perspective. you’re absolutely right – Jesus was about love, not judgement. and that’s a great point – there’s not just one single source – we’re all in it together. thanks so much for stopping by. big hugs xox

  14. Egad! If that isn’t the most incredibly wholesome “girl-next-door” picture that I’ve ever seen in my life, I don’t know what! You’re going to have guys combing Ohio looking for that mailbox.

My own experiences were a little different. When I went out on Boy Scout backpacking trips, I’d set up off at the edge of the campsite to meditate, and time and again, an atheist would seek me out to argue about how stupid Christianity was. I mean – I was just looking out at the lake water! Yeesh!

    • hahah oh my gosh, you’re hysterical. thanks for that 🙂 wow, yeah, I mean God definitely gets people talking — on all sides. thanks for stopping by, Brian. big hugs xox

  15. I live in a part of town where talking about faith is pretty natural. I mostly mention prayer and my willingness to pray for people. Once in the grocery store the lady behind me swore, “Jesus Christ” about something(the length of the line) and I turned around, grinned at her and said “yes He is.” She apologized for swearing. So that was intriguing that she was chagrined.

    • Hi Elizabeth! thank you so much for this – that’s so awesome that faith is a powerful presence in your community. that’s incredible. there’s hope! haha thanks for stopping by! big hugs xo

  16. Cotton candy grapes? Do I even want to know?

This was great, and something I’ve experienced more in the south than in the north. Doctor offices often have bible passages framed in the waiting room, for example. The surgeon and nurse prayed with us before Hillary’s surgery a couple years ago. It’s very refreshing!

I sent you an email on speaking. No rush; just so you know it’s there. meanwhile…

To Patreon we go, to Patreon we go! Hi ho the merry-o – to Patreon we go! (sorry. long day)

    • Hey Jeff! haha oh my gosh yes, you need these grapes in your life. i’m literally sitting here eating them right now! haha. And thanks for this. you’re right, there are definitely still pockets where faith is alive and well. And wow, what a gift that nurse was for you during that time. Little did she know the impact that gesture had. love that. and yes! I did see that! i actually talked about it with my papa 🙂 — a lot of really exciting things in there that got me thinking!! Today was an unexpectedly tough day…I’ll email you. thanks for always being my encouragement angel! 🙂 hugs to you and julie!!

      • Sorry to hear it’s been a tough day. Yeah, I threw a ton at you in email. My brain starts racing and, well, there you have it. Be well. Prayers and hugs.

      • hahah no it was awesome. and i am so grateful! planning this party took all mental energy/free time. And your comments were so timely, you have no idea. can’t wait to fill you in!! 🙂

      • I saw your comments at Patreon. Thanks for the support. Sometimes I’d like to be more of a reaper than a sower, but we all play our part, eh? I appreciate you very much!!

  17. What an amazing needed experience and post. Apart from political correctness all of us feel uneasy about forcing our ideas on other people, but Christians should feel comfortable about sharing the joy of God’s presence in our own life and just how peaceful and joyful that experience can be. That kind of approach is not overbearing or threatening. On the contrary it may be just what others around us feel they need without getting into a complicated theological discussion. The Gospel is more simple than people like to make it at times.

    • Thank you so much! I’m so glad this hit home with you. and that is SO true — there is so much peace and joy that comes with Him. That’s what I want to share!! thanks for the encouragement. big hugs to you xox

  18. Amen, it’s so true. And it’s such a shame that we have let the ones who don’t want to talk about God, the very few with the LOUDEST voices, dictate the national conversation. Plenty of us want to talk about our faith, few are willing to take the plunge. That was, partially, what Fr. Isaac Hecker had in mind back in the 19th century and looking across America: what an enormous powerhouse for good and spirituality if we could just all make an attempt to feel the Spirit move and instruct us!

So glad things went well and that there are follow-ups. The more you do, the more you write, the better this world becomes. God bless!

    • Thank you so much Rich, I really appreciate that. I think you’re right – we need to be more vocal in the national conversation. Because we *can* offer a counter view and get people reconsidering. Yes! Let’s take the plunge! The HS will help us know what to say 🙂 And wow, what an incredibly kind thing to say. i am so touched. thank you, my friend. have a beautiful week. xox

  19. Okay I posted this on Facebook yesterday it is about my faith. I put at lest one Faith based post on my Facebook page every day. Hope this counts:
JOHN 14:2 KJV In my Father’s house are many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Learned in Church today that this is, word for word, what the Hebrew bridegroom of Biblical times said in his betrothal covenant. It ended with them sealing their vow by sharing a glass of wine. The groom then went off to actually build a room onto his parent’s home. When finished, he came back to get his bride. Can there be any doubt that God created man AND women in his own image ( So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.) and thus it is the single married entity that was created in God’s image – not the individual man and woman.. And with these words and the last supper’s bread and wine, Christ was making a covenant with Man”

    • Thank you so much for sharing this. Wow, what a powerful thing to share with your friends. I think that’s a great outlet to get faith out there! who knows what one little post can do! The Bible, being God’s word, has an incredible way of moving in people’s hearts in ways that we cannot even fathom. thanks for being His witness. big hugs xo

  20. Caralyn:

Your mother’s neighborhood sounds really interesting. Imagine swimming in the deep end of the pool.

Usually, the word that comes to mind about our culture is banal. Turn on any channel; select any dial on the radio; tune in on any conversation. As a kid, I wondered about the banality of evil where the moral dilemma we faced was like that of a conductor on a train bound for Auschwitz (never mind that cattle cars have no conductors). Moral numbness seems pervasive–or is it?

I understand implicitly what motivated your new neighbors. My craving lately has been to swim in the deep end of the pool. Call it an identity crisis, if you will. These past two weeks I have written almost nothing and have spent my time reading Augustine’s Confessions. Call me crazy, but I have had an irresistible urge to study Latin these past two weeks. I understand your neighbors.

Kinnamen and Lyons write (see review: http://wp.me/p3Xeut-1Kh) about the number of practicing Christians actually has not changed very much over time. What has changed are the number of cultural (legacy) Christians who still identify as Christians, rather than some other category. They also write about how a discouraging number of practicing Christians now buy into less-than-orthodox ideas, coming from non-Christian sources, such as New Age (Hinduism with a Christian wrapper).

If you are skeptical about Kinnamen and Lyons’ research, ask people whether they believe that there are multiple paths up the mountain to reach God (a Hindu idea). It’s a trick question because there are no paths up the mountain to God. God is eternal and holy, and we are not. We cannot approach God; he must come to us. As Christians, we believe that he came to us in Jesus Christ.

I loved your post, as usual.

    Stephen

    • Hey Stephen! Thank you so much for this powerful comment. There are no paths up the mountain of God – wow! what a profound prospective. You’re right, He’s a “swooper” and swoops in and ransoms us. And what a thought provoking perspective. Thank you again for sharing that. And ALSO!! *thank you* for the wonderful email last week. I admittedly let me email get away from me with the party planning, but I have been meaning to get back to you! I am very interested in talking about that! I’ll email you this week about it. Thank you. That’s incredibly generous. Hope you have a great evening!! x

  21. “Living in such a way that we’re straight-jacketed into never uttering anything that has a moral point of view because it may upset someone…”

The resonance is strong with this one. It’s amazing how much it is drilled into us how to act and what we can and cannot say. I didn’t realize just how much until I was in a group of like-minded people recently and I felt a sense of the straight jacket falling away.

    Great read! <3
(I talked about God this week in a blog post. Does that count? 😉 )

  22. There are some very green trees on your block. Pretty. 1A on NPR was talking about this. That, the roles, rules, and definitions within the Bible kind of make a religious bias. But, that Jesus was a radical of his time and really pushed boundaries. Love thy neighbor, was the theme. I think. Maybe, religion sets boundaries and publicly we set off to defend them rather than to see what we could agree on. We could all build walls around us and see who has the highest tower and that group is closest to God. Or, we could be radicals and, listen.

    • Thank so much Kenzie. Yeah, it’s amazing what bright sunlight can do to photos. That and springtime in Ohio 🙂 I think you’re spot on — Jesus was a boundary pusher. and that was his impact. You’re right – there is power in listening. thanks for this powerful perspective. your comments always make me think. big hugs xox

      • Faith, creates these moments with strangers. I was in Phoenix and my friend and I sat on a corner for three hours talking about God. Five or six people came and we just kind of did it. All strangers. When I was imprisoned, a chaplain exchanged his freedom for mine. I felt, um very unworthy of it. I believe that’s why I try to help others and, stay out of trouble. There are ways to, come together. God is not the problem people make problems.

      • Wow, that sounds like an incredible conversation. I wish i could have heard it. and wow, what an amazing gesture by that chaplain. my goodness. wow. thanks for sharing that. big hugs xox

      • thanks for saying that 🙂 i have actually thought about interviewing my mom for this blog, either in podcast form or just a post. i don’t know. she’d have to be on board. i’ll pray about it 🙂 x

      • 😀 Riverside Church in NYC is run by Pastor Amy. She used to work in New Orleans. I was helping in New Orleans at that time. It would be cool to hear your mom’s perspective. It’s great to hear all these different sides. My kids go to some mega church in Arizona. We talk about it all. Even the hard stuff for dads. I’m pretty sure love and divorce are like hard for, everyone. Yeah.

      • yeah, definitely hard for everyone. How awesome. I have not heard of Riverside, but I’ll have to see if they have a podcast! 🙂 thanks!

      • Thanks for asking Kenzie, I just saw what happened. How sad. My heart and prayers are with those people. I’m actually in Ohio, so I’m safe. But thank you so much for checking in! Hugs xox

  23. Amen, pastor! You are, with your powerful testimony, spreading His Word. In my prayers for you an your family, I see you going to seminary school and becoming a powerful speaker and evangelist. So proud of you! Hi to your Mom!

    • Hi Rick! oh gosh, thank you so much. and wow! what a powerful thing to dream and think about. you are incredible, you know it? Thank you for your prayers and encouraging me in such a personal and positive way. i am very grateful for you 🙂 and I definitely will! she’s sitting right next to me 🙂 … eating cotton candy grapes 🙂 hehehehe have a blessed week! big hugs xox

  24. Love this! Just another example of how God can impact us on a daily basis- we don’t need a special service, event or pastor to talk about God

      • Gosh, I’m sorry to hear that things have been hectic. But way to put those challenges to good use! i’ll definitely keep you in my prayers 🙂 thanks again, and have a beautiful night! xox

  25. You are roaring like a lion:

Let love explode and bring the dead to life
    A love so bold
    To seek a revolution somehow
Let love explode and bring the dead to life
    A love so bold
    To bring a revolution somehow
Now I’m lost in Your freedom
    In this world I’ll overcome
    My God’s not dead
    He’s surely alive
    He’s living on the inside
    Roaring like a lion
    God’s not dead
    He’s surely alive
    He’s living on the inside
    Roaring like a lion
(From the song by the Newsboys)

Keep it up. People need to hear about Jesus. They long for freedom. They want to lead a meaningful life. People are longing for something to fill the God shaped hole in their heart. They will never find what they are seeking if someone does not lead them to Jesus. Every Christian is called to be a member of the Priesthood of all Believers. We are all charged with sharing the gospel, the good news, with the world. You are doing that when ever you share your faith with another.

    Keep it up!

  26. Every single day, may God create simple opportunities for us to share our faith in real and gracious ways. May what others see in us be the Light that draws them near. May we be bold and courageous because He will never leave us nor forsake us. Thank you for sharing. ❤️

  27. Ever since I saw your blog, I felt an instant love for it (though it may seem out of the ordinary for a blogger, that focuses on gaming and randomness, to enjoy such content as yours)! The personality you show in your posts, the love, the faith, it’s all inspiring to me. Keep up the great content, I can only strive to be as successful in life as you are!

    • hey friend! oh gosh, thank you so much! i’m so glad that you’ve enjoyed reading my blog! that really means a lot 🙂 thank for taking the time to read! hugs xox

  28. I could not agree with you more. We should not be afraid to talk about our faith at all. Me, I can’t not talk about God at all because I was born into my faith and God has done so much for me. To not share my faith would be not sharing a part of myself.

    • This is such a powerful response, David. thank you so much. you’re right, God really has done so much for us. it is the least we can do to honor Him! big hugs to you xox

      • I might write something from my response to your latest blog. Looking back at my college days I felt a little held back in my writing because I didn’t want to sound too churchy. Sometimes I wonder if I sound too churchy with my blog. I write what I know though.

  29. This comes as a surprise to many and yet Jesus told us that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The biggest issue with discussing faith is our own inhibitions.
There is a classic example of how effective talking about faith is when we look back 100 years. 5,000 bible students began a campaign of talking to others publicly, going to their houses, on the street, in market places to talk about Gods Kingdom, the Gospel. The impact? They reached out to those who were ‘poor in spirit’ (Matthew 5: 3) of those aware of spiritual need as some translations more accurately render the Greek phrase. More than 8,000,000 individuals share every month in talking to their neighbours about the Gospel, sharing their faith.
On a personal level it makes your heart rejoice. For all the negative experiences one positive makes it worth while. Note the words at Matthew 24: 14 because we live in troubled times and action is required.
It is a great account. Family and community are so important to all of us.

    • Thanks so much for this. I think you’re so right- this biggest issue really is our own inhibition. What a powerful example. Thanks for sharing that with me 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  30. Loved this piece too. Yes, it is so important to mention Him due to whom we have so much joy and success in our lives. Such a lovely idea to have a neighbourhood party. I’ve had that on my mind…. now I’ll do it soon. Hopefully. Lots of love. You sure are one of a kind. Stay blessed.

    • Thanks so much Shireen! So glad you enjoyed the read! You’re right– He really is the source of our joy and success. Yes! Neighborhood parties are a lot of fun! Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  31. My dear friend,

when we all give respect to each other and even include all other people with different faith (we are Christians, others are Hindus, Moslems, Buddhists, Sikhs etc.) – then we will rise above the limitations of our own religion as we are all children of God, noone is excluded as God has not made first-class people and second-class people. So we all are human beings, first of all and when we understand that man made religions but God made man – then all religions come closer to each other. Love is important for all people – and God is love, is light, is life. And as He was the Creator of the creation with man next to Him – He wants us to treat us as brothers and sisters in Him. However we hide behind words which are just a translation between soul and mind – and the Wordless One has in fact no words – because no words can justify Him. In this case we pinpoint our words, build fenses and walls around and fight for them in a mind game – in doing so we more and more take distance from love and respekt. In all our hearts there is this temple of God, His throne – so when I know that God resides in every heart – how can I hurt such a heart…
Saints said: God loves the sinner but not his sins – in this way we should treat all our brothers and sister and have love and respect for everyone, no matter which country they belong to, no matter their skin-colour, no matter their religion, their faith or which nationality they belong to – then we have understood what it means: “Love your neighbour as yourself…”

    Thanks for sharing, dear friend
    And have relaxing time
May God bless you, your mother, your family and all around you
    Didi

    • Oh my gosh thanks so much Didi. This is a really thoughtful and powerful reflection. I love that: love *is* important for all people. What a beautifully inspiring note. Thanks again. Here’s to loving our neighbors 🙂 Big hugs xox

  32. Thank you for writing about this. Yes, we need God and we need to talk about Him. We need food and we really enjoy talking about food. Folks are always wanting to get or give a recipe. Why is ok to do that but God is considered off-limits in most conversations. We need God like we need food and I’m so ready for someone besides we in “flyover country” to have conversations about this. Great article today!

  33. How wonderful – your words, your site, your conviction! You made my morning (again)! Thank you – and yes, we need God . . . I need God! Keep writing and inspiring! God Bless.

  34. A very thoughtful, insightful post…faith is key. To keep it under wraps denies growth. Thanks for sharing this! Cheers!

  35. I recognize that what I will say will seem controversial and provocative, so my intention is not to insult, but to delve deeper into the topic.

It’s been my experience and observation, that those with a positive experience with God are typically the ones that have the most ease discussing Him. It’s also been my observation and experience that those that have had God or Religion imposed on them, have the most difficult time discussing it. This topic reminds me when “Passion of The Christ” – starring Jim Caviezel – hit theaters. I know a man with profound faith had said, about that movie, “For those who believe, this movie will have an impact; but I would imagine for those that do not believe, it will be just another movie.”

I suppose my point is this: Commonality eases the challenges of opposing views and when encountering someone of similar views, it is a form of empowerment. There is safety in numbers, right?

But what about facing the world when there is an outright rejection of the faith you want to bring? And how does one truly love their enemies?

I’m starting to ramble into something else, so I’ll pause there…

I have followed your blog for quite some time and you always have a way of encouraging a more positive relationship with God – even for those of us that can’t find a safe-place to be with that God. For that, I think you have a beautiful heart. But I would be lying, if I denied my own tumultuous relationship with a God, or Higher Power, one that constantly questions what is or is not right or wrong…

  36. This was good stuff, sweetie! I loved it. It is a reminder that we usually listen to Satan’s siren song when it comes to sharing our faith. You are right people are desperate for meaning in life in a culture where there is no meaning. They want to know about God. They want to hear from these wacky Christians who have joy even in the harshest of circumstances. Don’t listen to Satan, share your faith…preaching to myself as much as anything else here. Keep Sharing! Who knows the impact that the least little bit of sharing the gospel can do in a person’s life. Seeds get planted. Flowers grow from little seeds.

  37. I love that God opened a door and you all chose to walk through it. I think it’s great too that it didn’t just stop at a conversation about faith, but moved into wanting to look at the Word of God together. I think the Spirit of God has started a neat work in your neighborhood!

  38. Isn’t it interesting and wonderful that God brings Light into our “world” when we include Him in our conversation? He sure shows up in your countenance! You’re wonderful that way.☺

    • You’re right! It is so awesome how it really does brighten up a conversation and even a party! And gosh that’s kind of you to say. Thank you so much 🙂 big hugs xox

  39. God is irrelevant to the eyes of the masses. Just sayin’. The masses are the ones who campaigned (so to speak) to allow God to be pushed out of schools, buildings, public life. There are so many closeted Christians, and the ones who are obvious often come in one ‘flavor’. We pigeon hole one another within the confines of Christianity. Although we are supposed to be salt and light, we whitewash one another and how we choose to portray our faith. I often think about the book of Acts when it comes to sharing our faith (evangelizing) as it was then, versus now. There was such a Holy Ghost BOLDNESS, a fire that seemed unquenchable. It takes all of us, beginning with those of us who have children (my son knows the armor of God, and is of the mind it is absolutely necessary that we put it on each day…so we’re shaping that God is in our every day lives, in every way). We have to raise a generation of people who know and love the Lord. That didn’t exactly happen with these last few generations of people – therefore they didn’t want to hear it. However, the crises of the world is starting to ignite that spark.

What you do via your blog is but one simple marketing tool for faith…and eventually, we do have to come out from behind the screens and DO something. I am so glad you posted this. It coincides with our sunday sermon on having passion. Having passion leads one to share. Where is our passion???

    • I think there’s a lot of truth I that- we need that boldness. And it is up to us! Thank you so much for this thoughtful reflection and encouragement. Yes! Bring on the passion! Hugs and love xox

  40. Thank you for your wonderful words and beautiful spirit. It is so clear that God is working through you on so many different levels and how wonderful that you can bring that back home to the neighborhood you grew up in!

I agree that people are aching to talk about their faith. What I find interesting is that we as Christians seem to be the only ones who have become so reticent to share. People of no faith or other faiths do not have this fear or withholding and God certainly doesn’t want that from us. We are definitely doing a disservice as we let the words of the few overshadow the words of the few. God calls us to step up and speak out. He never said it would be easy and, goodness knows, looking at the disciples this was not the case. But our comfort should not be the issue. Our faith should be. I am so glad you found that to be true where you are.

    Allison

    • gosh, Allison. What a beautifully kind thing to say. thank you. i think you’re so right – people really are aching to talk about their faith. So glad you stopped by! big hugs xox

  41. I loved this! I’m so glad that you got to experience something so positive–such a heartfelt experience. I’ve seen doors opened and some slammed shut when God is even mentioned. I know there are many who don’t believe, but that shouldn’t stop us (believers) from sharing and talking openly about someone we love and trust–someone who offers us grace and forgiveness and eternal life! I’m so thankful that my friends from long ago cared enough about me and were bold enough to tell ME about Him. I wouldn’t be here without my faith.

    • Thanks so much Teri! 🙂 Yeah, it was such a positive afternoon — i’m still basking in the glow 🙂 hehe How awesome — it sounds like you have some really incredible friends. thanks for stopping by! big hugs xox

  42. Outstanding! …..and you nailed it…..people really do want to talk about it. And, congratulations….when people open up to you it’s because they can feel the atmosphere of grace around you…with NO condemnation. They are concerned, they do want to talk…but they don’t want to be put down, chastised….or given a list of things they need to do to be accepted by the Father! Good job!

    • Wow, Andy, that is such a kind thing to say. thank you. I was so honored to have those conversations. I’m still floating 🙂 haha thanks for stopping by and sharing your heart! big hugs to you xox

  43. Hey Soul Sister, it is awesome that you got to experience the true joy and purpose for us as Christians; to share the Gospel. Unfortunately, many believe that our faith is a private matter that we hide in our hearts like a prize in a box of cereal 🙁 Fact of the matter is that if or when we share the full Gospel of Jesus we will encounter huge opposition and rejection, but take heart because you are being treated like Jesus was treated, meaning that you are doing something right (even though it gets received as if it were wrong). Our faith is in God’s Word that Christ Jesus brought to us so that we could have eternal life through faith. Remember Moses was a reluctant messenger as well, but the more he got to know God the more confident and boldly he professed God’s message. Read Ezekiel 2 through Ezekiel 3:1-11 and you will understand the responsibility that God gives to all that serve Him. 2 Corinthians 4:13 says “I believed; therefore I have spoken.”b Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak. Also 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 says” Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:a The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God”.
You are a special instrument of God’s and the sound that comes from you is the Gospel of Christ Jesus. Play on!

Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. Romans 6:13

    • Aw thanks so much. That’s so true and important to remember. we *are* His ambassadors and sometimes that will come with a little opposition. Thanks for the encouragement. Means a lot. Hugs and love xox

  44. What a timely message, especially with all the PC arguments that are being pushed around today. Yes people are hungry for God, they truly want to know the answer that we find in Christ. Paul ask the question in the book of Romans “How will they Hear if none tells them?” Thank you for the boldness to share your faith and belief in God and to encourage all of us to take a stand in sharing our Faith in Christ.

  45. I was blessed to attend a women’s retreat up in Lake Tahoe recently through our church. The theme was “You are Enough” (Ps 139:14). It was very uplifting and just what I needed. Love your graphic “If there is no wind, row!” In my case, it would be “paddle!” Beautiful post!

    • Hi Terri, thank you so much for this. Wow, sounds like an awesome retreat. I love the theme!! So true! Haha yes paddle! 🙂 thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  46. Based on what we know of Jesus” life on earth, it is safe to assume that we should anticipate rejection and persecution because of our faith. None the less it is our duty to serve God’s Word, we cannot make them accept it.
18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[b] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason. John 15:18-25
It is fair to say that the world is even more anti Christ than it was back then, so the hatred of God’s word is even more blatant today. Every Prophet or Servant of God from Moses to God”only begotten Son Jesus was persecuted because they shared God”s message with the world. Same message. Same world. Same results.

    • Thanks so much for this thoughtful response. You’re so right, we should not expect it to be easy, because of what Jesus endured! But we’ve gotta go for it anyways 🙂 thanks for stopping by and for this thought provoking response! Hugs and love xox

  47. Your post showed me a few things…1, you acted out in life and experienced something (in this case, sharing your faith) 2, your action had ripple effects (those you influenced at the party, those you are sharing the story with here), 3, you get out of life what you put into it (you’re capitalizing on opportunities in the everyday mundane and it’s EXCITING). Thanks for your bravery!

    xo Katie

  48. What an outstanding post! I hope you don’t mind that I’ve linked to it on DeaconCast. You are a beautiful and courageous young lady who has a lot to say. My own daughter suffered from anorexia and, like you, has grown into a wonderful example for others. We are looking forward to the birth of her first child this summer. Keep up the good work. God bless you.

    • Thank you so much! Absolutely! What an honor!! I am seriously so touched. I am so sorry that this resonated so personally but I’m so glad your daughter is doing well!! Praise God! Hugs and love xox

  49. I love that you talk about God openly, Jesus more, we need to know more about God, where I come from, everyone talks about God, every one goes to Church but its really not from the heart, I would know. But now I would love to know Him more, I can say I know about Him but its different from knowing Him.

    • Oh gosh thank you so much! I really appreciate these kind words. I definitely know where you’re coming and have been there. All I know is that Jesus will meet us halfway. If we open the door — even just a crack — then He will move in our hearts 🙂 thanks so much for stopping by and for sharing your beautiful heart. Big big hugs xox

  50. I very rarely talk about my faith. It isn’t that it is a touchy subject for me. My faith is my own and I just find it a very subjective thing to talk about with people.

But, I found myself talking about it with a family from a church I’ve visited lately. I, along with nine others, were part of a servant auction and the couple who bought me were very nice people. They bought me lunch and treated me with dignity and respect, but that’s all beside the point…

Personally, I talk about my faith only in the regard so long as it inspires people. I don’t talk about my faith when I’m in such a shit situation because that doesn’t inspire anyone. I don’t talk about my faith when I’m doing well because that doesn’t inspire anyone either. It’s the simple fact that nobody honestly cares enough to know what got you there so much as what you had to do to get there. I’m not saying that faith isn’t important. It is indeed important and it’ll be more than I care to share now.

I’m glad that your situation has improved and that God has moved in a big way for you! I enjoyed the read and I find it to be one of inspiration and hope being able to help you into this phase of life.

As for your challenge, been there and done that today. And last night too and thanks for giving that a look.. =)
    -Kevin

    • Thanks so much for this thoughtful response, Kevin. Oh awesome!! way to take the challenge! and thanks for your kind words – yeah, God has really been holding up my family during this trying time. Thanks for sharing your heart. big hugs xox

  51. That does sound exciting –

It’s so worthwhile, and when just to think about what people can have. And when God is so creative and rock solid. I was always about life, and there’s that quote (John 10:10), about abundant life.

  52. You really are getting quite good at this! Another tremendous reminder for all of us. Our culture is getting pretty dark right now — but where the darkness descends… Light always has the opportunity to shine brightly. Sometimes we just need to remember that God is always at work — which you did, so eloquently! Thanks for your light shining… M. A.

  53. Reblogged this on Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. and commented:
Truly in life can anything be meaningful than be real in our faith.

For anyone who has known Him upon the authority of first hand experience, how can we not be excited to talk about our faith.

And the joy of such conversation with others whose minds are opened to know whether there is God, life after death, heaven and hell. May people’s spiritual eyes are opened to teceive His blessings.

May I re-blog your posting because it is a beautiful sharing.

      • It is my pleasure. I have enjoyed reading many of your posts. And I love all those nice picture-thoughts that laced up along your post. They are meaningful and beautiful, enjoyed them.
May your life continues to be full of His blessings, unseen spiritual blessings, as His love embraces you, your mom and all in your family.

  54. Well, Caralyn, you threshing-sledge, you! There’s a sharpness and a prophetic edge to everything you write, no matter how gently you couch it. Why wouldn’t your book be an icebreaker? God has given you a gift, and you just need to be faithful to use it. And of course, I’m sure you know me well enough to know that I loved what you wrote, especially seeing the ripple-effect of being kind enough to call neighbours and bold enough not to be ashamed of Him. That’s what pushes me – to not be ashamed of Him who has loved me so greatly.

You know, often after a terribly difficult time, the following season is often one of huge fruitfulness. And why not? Doesn’t pruning do that? When you prune, you do cut off healthy, beautiful tissue in the right places. But what comes later makes you forget all the pain.

And God who is so wonderful and wise, is so, so glorified.

I love what you’re doing, and how God is leading you every bit of the way. I love the way your family is faithful and loyal to God. My dad is sick again, and I’m in the hospital right now with a 5 week intensive training breathing down my back and my boss/friend covering all my classes while another of our core teachers is really sick. It’s ironic that pain was the goad that got me writing again on my blog, because I’ve been missing the closeness I experience with God when I write.

I’m praying God will work in my heart through all this. Through the impossible to handle. You have been a great encouragement in showing how God is letting His light peek through you – the more the broken pieces, the more light leaks through, the more the stories to share, the more the ripples, the more God will use and draw people.

    Many blessings on you girl!
    Indi

    • Hi Indi, gosh, I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. I will definitely keep him and you and your family in my prayers during this challenging season. Yeah, God does tend to draw is in when we seek Him out – and I definitely feel Him when I write too. Thank you for your encouraging words. I was actually watching my mom prime the rose bushes the other afternoon and getting almost sad seeing her cut the blooms off, but that’s what must happen for it to grow – and rebloom. Thanks for stopping by. And hang in there friend. You are close in my heart and prayers!!

  55. I am up for the challenge! Thanks for your example! I’ve been a little apprehensive about being so vocal and letting God be a part of my mission/ business and God spoke through you today to me! Thanks!!
Can u give me you opinion please? My mission is to help people clear the blocks that are preventing them from connecting with God’s Plan of Sheer Goodness for them. Do you like the tag line “hope for a hurting world” or “illuminating God’s Plan of Sheer Goodness” ? I use mind-body clearing techniques, stress reducers, I also have a template for incorporating prayer teams into schools, churches and organizations. And my husband and I work with couples committed to their marriage but dealing with the effects of past sexual abuse. I am recovering from bulemia and can relate to some of what u share about effects of and eating disorder. God Bless you!!

    • Hi Vicki! Oh awesome! Thanks for taking the challenge! Yeah it can definitely be scary, but He pours out His grace and gives us the words when we step out and speak about Him:) thanks for your question. What a powerful story you have, and I think that by sharing it with others, you will be a light in the dark for many:) Hugs and love xox

    • hmmm, i really like them both! but i guess that for your mission, my personal preference would be “hope for a hurting world.” 🙂 but both are really intriguing!

  56. You struck a nerve with this one. It’s about time that people started speaking up about Christian Faith – especially during this time of Spiritual Unrest. For those “Faith Challenged” people that have no guide to build upon – they continue through life not knowing what they need to be doing to obtain His grace and glory and they sure as “Hell” have no idea where they are going because they have been allowed to stray from the great Handbook of life called the Bible. Good Job Girlie – So proud of You for writing this article. God Bless!!!

  57. This was an excellent piece! It’s also something I’ve found challenging to do. Confidence is the one thing I lack when it comes to sharing my faith. I’m always afraid that someone will have that ‘gotcha’ question that will stump me and then I’ll lose them for good. But I also have to find that confidence that can only be given by the Holy Spirit. He will give me the words I need and when I need them. I also try to reach out to people through my blog. If one person can be saved, then it’s worth it. 🙂

Keep up the great work! You have a gift with the pen (or keyboard).

    God Bless!

    • Thank you so much Joe! I so feel ya. But I do believe that God will give us, through the HS, the right words to say in those moments. He equips the called, and if we go out on a limb for Him, He’s not going to leave us high and dry. Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words! big hugs x

  58. The conversation about God and about faith has been on my mind as a next post. I just haven’t quite figured out how to share the experience. It is nice to see that this is something that is actually happening all over. I will share my story soon and I hope you chime in.

FYI, prayers up for your mom and a speedy recovery. I know the process sometimes takes awhile but hopefully with great support, hers happens sooner.

    • Hey friend, thank you so much for sharing your heart. and gosh, i really appreciate your prayers for my mom. that really means a lot. I look forward to your next post! hugs xox

  59. I enjoyed reading your post and I agree. It’s refreshing to live your truth otherwise we aren’t being our authentic self. Thank you so much for sharing! Challenge accepted!

  60. I noticed that the closer we are to God the more natural it is to talk about Him. We talk about the people in our life, so of course when God is with us daily He shows through. There’s no awkwardness. We aren’t ashamed. He is part of us and it’s important to share that. 🙂 Love this post, and so happy for you and your neighborhood.

    • That’s such a powerful perspective. I think there’s a lot of truth in that. And amen! It’s so important to share! Thanks for your kind words. Hugs and love xox

  61. I’m not religious in the way society would declare it, but I’m most certainly spiritual and this post is so powerfully accurate. I really needed this today. Thank you for sharing!

  62. Its rather interesting to me that this was your post as life just continues to happen so does the mentioning of god. Now here’s the thing. I call myself an Agnostic-Atheist. That is to say, no, I don’t personally believe in God, that being said as I can’t prove nor disprove God’s existence I refuse to take a concrete stand on the topic. The lack of evidence is not the lack of existence. That being said I have one friend in particular that personally I believe if there are angels amongst us he’s a pretty good candidate, not that he always does good because I’m assuming he doesn’t. However he has a litteral glow. The way he talks about the kingdom and his motivational rants/speeches, I dont know what else to call it. Well my friend told me one day “God is searching for you” the next day I was working on my business plan in starbucks when the woman sitting at the table beside me stopped what she was working on and walked over and handed me a passage. A passage she said “God wanted me to have” This woman happened to be a ministry worker from Australia. I guess I’m just not sure what to say. I was once told if you have belief the size of a mustard grain then you are saved. Though I don’t believe with any level of certainty there is still this feeling that says…”maybe, just maybe.”

    • Yes, friend! Cling to that “maybe!!” That is so awesome. I fully believe that our paths were supposed to cross 🙂 because it’s true – God *is* searching for you 🙂 and it just takes a mustard-seed-amount of belief in that. Keep digging and asking questions, Chris. Thanks for taking the time to read. Big big hugs xox

  63. Yea! A young person who finally gets it! This nation was built with and around faith. I grew up in a time period where it was not incorrect to talk about faith. How quickly the deception has spread since I went to college in the ’70’s and “got my eyes opened” to how liberal college professors try to brainwash their students. Sadly, most of them were successful in shaming their Christian students and giving political correctness the upper hand. Today we see how their experiment has turned out. But God is greater than all that has happened to young people. He can show them the truth if they are willing to turn to Him. You, sweet girl, are one of the blessed ones who finally got it. There is really only one way, and His name is Jesus. Talk about your faith. Don’t be ashamed of Him. He is your only way out of the mess that mankind has made of the world, because to know and follow him transcends this world. The ladies you talked to on the block know it too. We Christians have been silent for too long. I intend to “stand up for Jesus” like the old hymn says, because of what He has done for me! Thank you, Beauty, for posting this. I hope thousands of people read and share it.

  64. Thanks for the like! You have a powerful testimony. I’ve been at war with anxiety and depression since I was nine and the fight with mental illness is not for the faint of heart.
I love that you’re using your scars to encourage and uplift others!

  65. ‘Oh Carlton…’ you pretty much just made my morning with that one by the way ;D

This is so me and gives me so much hope, I love seeing the hidden gems in people. And I think you’re right; if we could get off the eggshells I think there are a lot of people we would find a lot of Jesus in, and a lot of people looking for the real Jesus to ‘please stand up’. Something’s GOTTA give for the truth-and-authenticity seeking generation we’re in.

    • hahah oh good! yeah, that will never ever get old for me 🙂 hahah Thanks so much Carson. Yes! Let’s get off those eggshells! And you’re right – I think more people are looking for Jesus than we can even imagine. thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have an awesome weekend! hugs xox

  66. In John 15:18-15:19 Jesus says, “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.”

Respect for talking about God in a time where such subjects have almost become taboo.

  67. People are always happy to hear about God, when it is indeed about God. I’ve had wonderful random talks about God with people I’ve met along the way – the secret is to do it like Jesus did: he wasn’t preaching religion – in fact he was critical of it the whole time. He was sharing the good news that set people free. And, of course, he was the good news incarnated. When we have a chance to share the good news through our own stories of being converted to love, forgiveness, compassion, peacefulness, faith – people listen and feel at the very least inspired. As for believing, that does take God “activating” that “feature” in them. 😀

    • Hi Milly, thank you so much for your beautiful reflection. You’re so right – sharing good news in a gentle and loving way is the key. Thanks for stopping by. Big hugs xox

  68. Deer BBB. I’m going to share something with you and that you probably already know America and North America in general is a spoiled generation of people. That being said most people they go to try to churches with Dead Man and Dead women in the pulpit only want a form of godliness to soothe their conscience. With that in mind I believe you’re right when do you need to start talking about God more we need to have more boldness within ourselves to know who we put our trust in. After all should the early church have only had to Bear their cross and the rest of us go free? But I think the reason America is in such a state of confusion is because the Invisible War the world for fuses to acknowledge and the refusing to acknowledge the invisible War means they refused to yield to God people would be better off yielding to God rather than self because I want self gets in the way the enemy can get in there as well. If we need an encouraging all we have to do is read the Bible to keep pushing on press on to the High Calling of God. Look at Paul’s life. You’re exactly right the world can have beautiful conversations about God if they’re open hearted and honest about it. This is one of my favorite posts of all time posted by you but you my friend are just that my friend. That’s right Carolyn I call you my friend

No just for yesterday or today but it goes for tomorrow and the next day and the next day after that because God’s love for his children is continuous but it is also conditional. The understanding that God’s love is conditional is something that the world doesn’t seem to understand. Look at Adam and Eve in the garden God gave them conditions to be met. Even Isaiah said their sins have separated them from their God but in this lifetime and this error the lines between sin and sin free is blurred not because of anything God has done but because everything the enemy has tried to do. Sin is still sin and we need to call Sin for what it is period righteousness is righteous. God’s love is wonderful but God’s love can only be wonderful if we walk hand-in-hand with his guidance and his words written on the tablets of our heart. PS it’s my birthday next Friday can you send me a balloon in the mail or bubble wrap so I can pop them? God’s grace love and peace always be with you

    Anthony

  69. Totally agree. We got so used to being politically correct and being all-inclusive that we stopped sharing our faith. I live in a place where religion is quite strong but faith I feel is a bit lacking. I’ve also just recommitted myself to my faith after taking it granted for so long. I have a few close friends whom I discuss these these issues. And that has helped a lot in my spiritual life.

    • Thanks friend. you’re right – we need to step out and share our faith. i’m so glad you’ve made that recommitment! that’s so awesome. big hugs to you xox

  70. Hello Caralyn. This is the 3rd attempt to send a response to your post. Hoping it gets through.
Hi Caralyn: Thank you for sharing this great time you had at the party. Thank you for sharing your faith, and your live for our Saviour Jesus Christ, so freely. That is so exciting, Holy Spirit jumped within my spirit as I read about it.
And then, for a Bible Study to be in the planning stage, as a result of the party. WOW!!
We are all to be sharing Jesus at every opportunity Holy Spirit gives us and leads us into. As you have done so well, we need to share Jesus Christ, our Saviour and God, and not just religion. Religion scares people away, but the possibility of having a personal loving, non-judgemental relationship with the God of the universe, draws people to the Truth, and the Truth is Jesus Christ.
So many allow the spirit of fear to put a clamp on mouths and pens, but you are a great example to each of us in all you do. Thank you.
You put a terrific challenge out there for us. There are so many ways to act in acceptance of your challenge, be it in face to face opportunities, or in this electronic age, there are ways to reach the masses at one time. (You prove this greatly with your fantastic blog. I haven’t seen any with the number of followers and comments as you have with every blog).

With your gift of speaking, writing, interwoven with good humour, real life experiences, I believe God is going to continue to open many doors for you.
I am continuing to pray for you Caralyn, and with new horizons ahead, I am praying God’s continuing Protection over your mind, body, spirit and soul, with the covering of the Precious Blood of our Lord Jesus.

Keep on sharing Jesus Christ, the only WAY, TRUTH, LIFE. Our Light and our Strength in all things, drawing us to our Heavenly Father.

    As Scripture says:
    Romans 10:13-15
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

    God’s continuing Blessings Caralyn,
    LUV ❤️
    George

    • Wow George, this brought a tear to my eye. Thank you so much for this beautifully kind and wonderful note. I love that scripture verse. There’s so much hope there. And thank you for your continued prayers. You are a great friend. Know that you are in mine too:) sorry this took a few tries to get through- im not sure why that happened, but I sure do appreciate the kind sentiments. Have a great evening, George. Hugs and love xox

  71. What beauty and what light, from you upon your family!! You are so right. God as a subject has sadly become a taboo subject. Too many become too offended. Too many don’t want to acknowledge that He plays director of our everyday script. You are not only a great screenactor’s guild member but a great member of God’s guild, this world. Its sad that the rest of the world only wants to talk about press issues like politics, star gossip, social media yadda etc.. I am so glad to know someone like who talks the real talk. Hugs and Love always!!

  72. I love this! I agree that it’s so important to keep God in our conversations. Too many times people are afraid to offend someone but we need to be more open and proud of our faith! Shout it from the rooftops! As you know, I post a lot of my bible journaling. I started out just doing it on FB and decided to add it to a blog. Since then, I’ve had so many friends come to me with questions about God and devotional recommendations…all because I spoke about God out loud! Thanks for the post!

  73. Amen! And even more-
You never know who you are going to touch when you start talking about the Lord. I was simply at a friends house talking about homeschooling and drinking coffee when she mentioned a verse casually and immediately I felt truth and ever since then I’ve been building my relationship with God.

    • Thanks so much 🙂 oh wow that’s so awesome. It’s amazing how God can just insert Himself into conversations in the most effortless of ways! Hugs and love xox

  74. I have not visited your blog in quiet a while, and I must say that your new look is fantastically refreshing. . . so bright and bubbly, doubly lovely. . . As always your poster art continues to arrest our attention and bless us in immeasurable ways. Your commentary is also ever insightful. Keep up the excellent work and keep on doing what you do so well.

Thanks so much for the recent like on Dr. J’s Apothecary Shoppe. You are a blessing indeed.

  75. John 4 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. Wonderful post Caralyn. Thank you for sharing and allowing your siblings in Christ rejoice with you. … Be ready always to give an answer of the hope that is with in you…. As you share Christ sometimes it is like the fun wonderful party you have shared. Other times sharing Jesus will get you kicked out of the house and hurt you deeply within. God did not change but the readiness of the field is different. No matter did you do what God called you to do? Keep the faith no matter the result Joy comes in the morning of all those who sow seeds of hope from God.
Strength, Blessing, and Hope to you Caralyn.
    In Christ,
    Denny

    • thanks, Denny for sharing this. you’re right – joy comes in the morning. that’s the hope. that’s what we must cling to. thanks for stopping by! big hugs xox

  76. I think part of the depression on today’s society is because of lack of faith in God, they have trust in people who breaks it and then they try to seek else where.

Whereas in God whichever faith ones belong, that attachment remains forever. More trust means you are dependent on the provider of everything rather than the means to the source.

P.S: Every post I come, I observe 1k plus follower, you need to throw a party for this 😀

    – I love your neighborhood, so green open and vibrant. Makes the depression run away.

  77. Hi, Caralyn-
Don’t know if you remember me, but I reached out to you before about how reading your posts has touched me over the past months of my own struggles. I’m deep in it. Have been since 1998. And its gotten so big. I had emergency hip surgery after fracturing my right hip at the end of March, just from walking. No fall, just walking. And it’s because my bones are weak. Spend up until this week recovering with my sister, who lost her husband to cancer while I was staying there. She’ s now the single 36 year-old mother of four kids under the age of 8. And I am the 34 (yesterday was my birthday) year-old widow of a clinical narcissist who killed himself after 8 months of marriage. My family has been through it. We need a break. I need a break. And not a literal one. But now, more than ever, I need a breakthrough. I had a follow-up appointment with my ortho on Wednesday and found out I’ve lost wight since I got out of the hospital for my surgery. And my parents have been the ones feeding me over these past 8 weeks of my recovery from the procedure, so my mom feels like she’s failed. She’s scared, I’m scared. God is all we have right now. But reading your posts has also been a huge help to me.
I know you’re in the middle of going over the manuscript for your newly-completed book. A don’t know what your plans are for that, where you plan to publish it or if you have an editor. But maybe God brought me to your posts for a reason–to help you and to help me, both. I’m a writer and freelance editor. I also work with a publishing company called Indigo River Publishing here where I live in Pensacola, Florida. I don’t know if you’d be interested in pitching your boo to them or not, but regardless of that…if you need an editor, I’d be honored for that job.
Let me know what you think.
    Liesel

    • Hi Liesel, thank you so much for this thoughtful response and for sharing your story. I will definitely keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. It sounds like you’ve walked quite the journey. And you know what, God is on your side and will hold you up through all of this. I’m glad my posts have been encouraging for you. And thank you for passing along that information about your editing and publishing connections. That’s absolutely terrific, and I am definitely interested in continuing the conversation! Perhaps via email? — beautybeyondbones@yahoo.com Thanks again Liesel. Hang in there my friend. sending hugs xo

  78. I experience this even within the church. On Sunday mornings, in church, pastors are discouraged from taking a stance or preaching the Bible. What we don’t realize is that the world is so desperate for an anchor, a foundation. They don’t want to just “feel good”. This is so true. It encourages me to talk about Jesus uncensored!

  79. What people need to think about is that God goes where he pleases. He doesn’t need a church or bible group and if he wants to encourage faith then he’ll do it through us. 😊

  80. Wow. I did not expect this post to go this way. I thought the partys conversation would go to clothing or shoes. I’m very pleased you could openly speak of your faith. I’m also doubly pleased people you hadn’t could express an interest in God. Here in the Pacific Northwest most people cringe or shrink back when you talk about Christianity.

    This post has encouraged me.

    Thank you.

  81. Hi BBB,

Gotta love Godly moments. I pray you have more of these. People want to share, please help us to be ready to listen.

    In Christ,

    Gary

      • Any time. Keep being that light to those around you. You are a great example that I would like to see my fifteen year old daughter, Autumn to emulate.

      • thank you again, Gary. Wow, I am humbled by that. that’s such a kind thing to say. With a dad like you, I know that Autumn is a special, kind-hearted young lady. And I love the name Autumn, by the way – very beautiful. 🙂 Hope you have a great night. xoxo

  82. Great stuff, as usual. I’ve found this to be true as well. And people without any faith tend to find it really interesting.

    Keep it up!

  83. John Stott suggested that our reasons for staying silent may be many but he suggested: “Either we have no compelling incentive even to try to speak, or we do not know what to say, or we are not convinced that it is our job, or we do not believe we shall do any good, because we have forgotten the source of power.”

To the last phrase, I would add not only forgotten but become detached from. I believe that many Christians are running on empty – living out good advice rather than being energized by the Good News. And at the end of the day, you can’t give what you don’t have. I don’t write that as a harsh criticism but as a keen awareness of my own failing.

  84. I hope I can add something without become a Debbie Downer (sorry to all the Debbies out there). As much as the Good News compels us to share God’s grace and as much as it is a privilege and amazing adventure to do so, it’s not going to stop the decay you speak of. The Bible reveals we are slowly moving towards the end of human sin and selfishness and an earth laid waste. We cannot solve the problem we have created. Come resurrection morning, we are going to be rescued from a sinking ship.
There will one day be a new heaven and a new earth; the good Creation will be restored and our reconciliation with our Good Good Father will be complete as promised in Revelation 21-22. However, that means that all this mess will pass away first.

  85. Yes and amen! Everyone I meet seems to be going through something and a compassionate person, willing to listen, and even offering to pray, never seems to be a bad thing or dissuaded.

  86. Sounds good to me. I was brave the other day and mentioned a new religious mobile app that I was trying out to a friend/colleague. It sparked a nice conversation about morning affirmation rituals!

  87. Yes, it does start with you and me, like you said! How often do we wait for someone else to do whatever it is that we should be doing, whether it’s sharing our faith, or talking to someone, or helping out? One of my favourite verses in the Bible is 1 Peter 3:15 – “Be prepared at all times to give a quiet and reverent answer to those who ask about the hope you have inside you.” When people see the hope that is in us because of Christ, they will want to know what makes us different! And if we aren’t going to talk to them, who will? Thanks for posting this!

  88. You are blessed among women. If we are listening to his voice and take all to him in prayer, we will seek and we will find. You are doing a great job. May his power and love fill you. The fields are ripe for harvest.

  89. I absolutely love this! And it is so true. Religion and Christianity, specifically, can be looked at as a dishonorable thing to express. So, no one speaks up about it. It is like the apartment complex full of people who all hear a gunshot but no one reports it to the police because they don’t want to be the “ones” that reports it or maybe they think that someone else heard it and will report it. That can be the same with faith, morals, and believes. We don’t express it at times because we don’t want to be singled out as the “one” or we think that someone else will hold the standard for us whether that is a pastor, spiritual leader, etc. We all have our part. You spoke to my soul. I am so filled with joy to read this story. Keep growing and glowing Ladybug!
