God vs. Aliens

I’ve been really puzzled by a recent theme here lately.

No, not our culture’s questionable obsession with unicorns, or the fact that our White House is turning over faster than a round of tequila shots on Cinco de Mayo.

I’m confused about society’s recent preoccupation with….aliens.

And if you think that was out of left field, well, so did I.

I mean, I feel like in the last year, we’ve just collectively, as a society, adopted this fixation with aliens! – Just scroll through the Netflix Options, and I swear – 1/3 of the shows have to do with aliens! Stranger Things, Alien Invasion, The X Files, Continuum, Signs, I mean, the list goes on and on.

This stuff is crazy – Tall Greys, Reptilians, The Andromedan – I mean, I did one Google search after listening to a podcast, and daaaang there’s a lot of wild stuff out there.

And what the heck, humans? Do we really believe this stuff??

The”alien believer” is no longer a shut-in nut job with pasty skin and old 80’s band T-shirts with cargo shorts. We’re talking the cute girl who went to Coachella, wearing $500 sunglasses, a choker and sipping a green juice. You know…the same girl with crystals stuffed in her bra for “good energy.” That girl BELIEVES IN TALL GREYS.

Now, perhaps you’re thinking, how could I be so small minded to believe that we’re the only form of life in the entire universe.

Sure, ok you got me. Guilty! But that’s not the direction this post is going.

My question is this:

How is it that our society’s belief in aliens is on the rise, and yet our belief in God is on the decline?

Is it because it’s trendy? Perhaps a little edgy? A little hipster? I mean, we all love a good conspiracy theory, amIrite?

But seriously. That’s a terrifying truth. NewsWeek recently published an article that talked about how the number of people who believe in aliens has grown to 54%. Fifty-four percent!!  And yet, over the last generation, there has been a decline in the belief of God. Down to only 75%. Which just for perspective, 60 years ago, that number was hovering around 98%.

That, ladies and gentleman, is a scary thought to behold.

I just don’t get it. We’re gung-ho for publicly expressing our faith in the existence of aliens — it’s trendy, even! And yet, heaven forbid we breathe a word about God in public.

There’s something wrong with that picture.

I’m not bashing science or trying to challenge scientific progress or advancement. Not at all. I don’t put it past God to create aliens, just to, you know, spice things up a bit.

But I’m just struck by the climate of – bashfulness – we have about believing in God.

When did God become “the universe” in conversation?

When did God’s plan become “fate” or “serendipity?”

Here’s the scary truth: if we don’t strive to keep God in the conversation – keep Him relevant, – I fear that He’s going to get buried beneath the talk of alien conspiracy theories, vanilla spirituality, and the secularization of Christmas and Easter.

Take one look at the options available on Netflix, and it’s blatantly obvious that we are failing miserably at arguably the most important commandment of all: “Go and make disciples of all the nations.” Matt 28:16-20. Translation: Talk to people about Him!

Frankly, I wish we’d just cut the crap with the “gratitude” and the “mindfulness” and the vanilla spirituality that leaves God out of the picture! I mean, sure, those things are  creating wonderful, good hearted people…but where is God in all of that?

We’ve got to keep God in the conversation. Because if we don’t, then who will?

Let’s not let God lose to aliens, for cryin’ out loud.

Be bold. Be brave. And for the love of all things good, don’t refer to God as “The Universe.”

Leave that for the aliens…

  1. In a sense, to me, it is positive, in that I need to explore the extremes before I discovered that God was there all along and it was I who failed to recognize it. The greatest obstacle to finding God is the word, God. Great observations and expression of Truth

  4. This is a great post asking great questions. Firstly is Netflix and other media, the cause or affect of alien belief. The other thing is that traditional religious teaching seems to rule out aliens as anything to believe in.
    The other thing that needs thinking about is that people seem to think that religion is God, which I think is a mistake. Religion is of man and flawed, therefore when a priest does something bad, God is blamed. The issue of spirituality needs to be brought into the light for what it is, life and love. Not huge organisations which make up yet more rules and cages for us.

      • The thing is that sci-fi is rapidly becoming real, more real than God or religious teaching. People therefore have faith in it. Ultimately we all have to start accepting all faiths into our circle and belief needs to be about people and lives, not rules and discipline.

I do think that its out of material convenience that so many would rather believe in them than believe in God. Its a sad thought.     Ok, seriously, I think it’s because God, if He exists, makes demands on our lives. Now.

    Aliens, if they exist, do not. At least not yet. I am convinced that most who profess to be athiests base their belief on one big thing: that they do not want there to be a God. Because no God means complete autonomy.

  12. I’ve had this conversation with my Pastor and it’s just crazy how many things have become acceptable or the norm, while at the same time God is being pushed under the rug.

  13. A great post Caralyn. Belief in aliens has been around since the 70s from what I know. But you’re right it has increased. I think though it’s because we each want to believe in something higher, but we block the God of the Bible out, so people look for something else to fill their hearts. To be honest, TV religious shows often focus on getting rich and on self. I think people searching can tell that is not the way, and in their minds dismiss the traditional faith too. One more thing there is a distinct lack of community in our churches now, but that was not always the case. Now people see relevance and community in their hand held devices. Our whole society has shifted and changed because of that. These are just some thoughts I had. Wishing you peace.

  14. I remember my family was giving a lift to an old Highland preacher (in his 90’s) when there had been a lot of stuff on the news about finding the right conditions for life on other planets. Teasingly, we asked him if he thought there might be life on other planets. He surprised us by saying there might well be, but then added… “but the Son Of Man (ie Christ) has power ON EARTH to forgive sins, (Matt 9:24) so I better stick where I am for now.”

This will be a topic all the generations will discuss, whichever scientific or biblical belief they have… what matters most is God is never totally left out of the equation for even those alien-believers are not so sure to leave HIM just for this universal “being” they’ve never seemed to knew about it started, who started it and why they’ve started it. Am not sure for I wasn’t born before the space race has became a big issue that they need something big or of significant topic to attached to make the outer space exploration more exciting and worth following. Asked those manning the ISS if they’re not praying to God while on board …. Am very sure , they are and into God but not to the aliens. Great Article !

  18. One Saturday afternoon I found myself watching something about the moon on one of those documentary channels. They had all these theories on how impossible it was for the moon to form and be made the way it is unless there were aliens. I just kept sitting there thinking, “um, God maybe?!?” I find it much more likely that our moon is where it is and is made the way it is because God created it that way than to believe that our moon is some sort of alien outpost.

  21. To add on to the conversation many are having here about the decrease in belief in God, I think sadly there’s often misrepresentation of Christianity too. Many outside of the church see believers as an exclusive group or even (devastatingly) a group of people who looks down on others/considers themselves as better, because these people outside of the church are inevitably interacting with believers who are not genuine (because as the Scripture says, not all who call ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom.) It breaks my heart that some people outside the faith have this view and I think as believers we need to reassess how we’re treating those different from us and our church climate, because it’s supposed to be a place for everyone to come as they are and unite under the title of ‘broken.’ I am definitely not better than anyone and 100% broken, which is why I need Jesus.

  22. Everything about the universe is trendy now because people, having lost faith in religion, had to place it elsewhere. Deep inside people want to believe, but they continue to try doing that with their intellect – and aliens are as far as it goes with that! Not God. I do think we can have a positive impact but beyond that it’s up to God. By loving our neighbors we are already doing plenty. God can turn anyone he wants at any given time. He’s done it to me. No one ever managed to convince and least convert me. 🙂

  24. Fun fact for you: The Pope is on record saying that the existence of extraterrestrials does not preclude the existence of a deity.

    As for some of the theories out there, one that is gaining a lot of steam is panspermia and the alien astronaut theory.

  27. I don’t know what’s on TV. I watch two non-news shows on my antenna TV. Neither of them deals with aliens. However, given the numbers, I’m guessing other life forms exist somewhere. I don’t understand why people confuse scientific evidence with religious belief. I’m not Christian, but I also don’t understand how my not believing in your God would harm Him. If He’s real, He’s far bigger than I am.

  28. I didn’t know there were those many shows and talks about aliens. I don’t have cable and, on the other hand, I’m surrounded by engineers all day. They tend to be very pragmatic and aliens it’s something that they don’t have the time to think about.

    I thought it was more about vampires than aliens. At least, that’s what I seem to encounter the most. Even before the Twilight saga, it aeema that vampires are everywhere.

    That’s all I can comment about that. Now, concerning God, I may understand why many people stop believing. I am myself struggling right now. Many people like me prayed for all of their lives. We were taught that if you kept living by the Commandments, you would be rewarded and the Father would be with you at all times. Then things happen to you. I prayed to find someone to grow old with and I endes up in an abusive marriage. I prayed for a healthy child and with no autism, and my child has been diagnosed with autism. I prayed for my marriage to be saved, for my husband to change, only to be enmeshed in an ugly and nasty divorce. These things make me question, where is God. What happened? And when you go seek the support and advise of the Church, only to be slapped in the face again, then you start questioning if God even exists.

    I guess that many people end up facing difficult situations and circumstances that bring them to that point whete they cannot believe anymore.

    Add to that the things going on in the world. Children with ballooned bellies because they’re starving and they have worms in their insides. Famine, poverty, and genocide, as well as children suffering from cancer and so many other things. Terrorists in many places. Children learning to kill at an age when they should be playing and in school. Women being sold into sex trade, married off at 9 years old, or used and abused. And the list goes on. All those things make many people question God, whether He exists, or both. They ask themselves which kind of God allows for all that to happen, to let innocents suffer, for people to hurt.

    I don’t think the people I’m referring to believe in aliens because they stopped believing in God. But they stopped believing in Him because of all thise things and more. Add to that the fact that many priests, pastors in other denominations, and people who are supposed to spread the word of God abused of the very own people they were supposed to nurture spiritually.

    I guess thise are very compelling reasons to doubt the existence of God.

      • Forgive me for the lengthy response above to Maria, her comment just pulled at my heart. That was me when I was struggling to come to Christ and there was no one to guide me or point me to the Cross, I couldn’t leave a sister to wander away a lost sheep as I almost was. Praise God He held me, drew me, and secured me in spite of my lack of faith, he didn’t let me go, and now it is only to the cross of Christ I cling as I walk with my Father, with my Savior, filled with the Spirit.

    • I am very sorry that you have gone though difficult times and trials that have left your faith shaken, but please stand strong cling to the rock of God’s unshakeable love for you. For He does love you dearly, eternally, so much He died to restore you to oneness with Himself to save you eternally from the result of mankinds fallen nature. For through one man, Adam, sin entered the world and everything you mentioned above is a direct result of that sin (except possibly your son’s autism -which I know is a challenge and hard to understand but I truly believe God has something special in store for those on the spectrum, their minds are amazing, I know my son is on it.) All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, all means all, me, your husband, those priests, those who kill in a god’s name, you, all. I was a wretched broken mess before I came to know Christ and saw that nothing I do can ever save me. No matter how had I try to follow the Big 10, or be a good person – I am a sinner, even now, but the difference is that now I get it. Salvation isn’t about me and what I can do, it’s about God and what He did! It’s about the precious, powerful, cleansing blood of His only Son shed on the cross at Calvary once for the remission and covering of sin for all who truly believe that Jesus, the only begotten Son of God died for them. When a sinner truly believes that in their heart and repents of their sins turning from them and confessing Jesus as their Savior then they are saved, not by anything they will do but by God’s grace and mercy given to man through the cross and the following Resuurection of Christ from the grave assuring us of our eternal life and salvation with God. It is a daily process anew that turning thing, some days I am still less than Christ like, but everyday I put my faith in him to lead me and when I then allow my sweet Lord to do so He is faithful and sure to never forsake me even when I face trials and struggles. Some days though I try to take back control, those days are harHe leaves the choice to love der because He will never force me to give my life to him, so He has no choice but to let me sin, struggle and ultimately fall at the cross clinging in desperation to the only hope I have in this world – Christ. God doesn’t want any of us to sin, He never wanted Adam to, or anyone else but he gave us free will, he gave us choice. He wants us to love Him and want Him as he does us, but He leaves that decision up to each of us. After all what kind of love would it be if we were forced to love Him, forced to want to be in relationship with Him, forced to accept the free gift of eternity with the Light, the Savior of the world. Along with loving him comes obedience, a desire to live in a way that is pleasing to Him, but living that way is not forced on those who do not choose God, sHope, and Loveo they sin, they live without God and reject His laws, His love and His fellowship. Which is what Adam did when he took that bite, your husband when he choose not to stay with your marriage and those leaders who turned their backs on their flocks. But as Adam repented and turned back to His first love God, so can we when we mess up, when we see that we are broken, straying or were never really walking with the Lord at all. Sin and rebellion are the cause of evil and hurt in the world, not God our Father, Creator, Savior, Hope; He just let’s us have what we want, our way, even though it breaks His heart because He knows that there will always be some who see the Light, who turn from the darkness and embrace Grace, Hope and Love -who come to him on bended knee with lifted hands crying “God have mercy on me a sinner! Forgive me, Jesus, save me! “. God enters into relationship with everyone who asks Him to and that is how you change the world, by walking in the Light. Not by blaming God who cries, who hurts, and who died to save you from this world that is broken, sinful, lost. A world He loved but that rejected Him.

  29. You know when I was a kid I asked my grandmother what she thought about aliens. Her reply to me I will never forget. She said, The Bible speaks of heaven, hell, and earth.” She also said, “It was earth that He put human beings on. There is no life on other planets.” I have always thought about that when the subject of other life forms come into conversation. To me she actually said it best.

    As far as speaking about God to others, I do feel this is needed, at the correct times and moments. When it is not received though we need to be like Jesus when He was teaching the Eucharist. “He let them (the scoffers) go in their disbelief.” He never called those people back to Him and tried to push the belief that He is truly in the Bread and Wine. He simply let them go and then asked Peter, “Are you going to leave me to?”

    God will never allow Himself to be “buried” by anyone. After all He is our creator. Look what He did to Israel when they tried to “bury” Him. When someone turns from Him, and denies Him, our duty is to pray for them, and let them go. I pray for reprobate souls every single day.

    I used to think I could “save the world.” As years past I realized I could not. So I begin to focus on those in my community and life. Those who God gave to me to help, pray for, and just be a friend/daughter/sister to. I am happy and at peace with that. The world is far too big a place for me, but it is not too big to pray for, and have faith and hope in God, that He’s got it. Still praying for you and your Mom. Many congrats on book. There is no room for God because everyone is about themselves and what ‘they feel’ and ‘think should be right”.. .Truth, which we both know IS God is gone and out the window… Society as a whole is self absorbed..   33. I hear you. Hearing someone use “the universe” in the place of “God” is incredibly annoying. I actually questioned someone about it once. I asked what they meant by “the universe.” She said, “You know, the universal consciousness.” I replied, ‘Oh, you mean God?” No, she said, not God, just a consciousness. That was all she had. I reminded her that God is conscious and, like you, asked her to be brave and use the word God. Who are we worried about offending? Whoever they are, I guarantee they’re not equally worried about offending Christians. It’s a strange phenomenon. Re. aliens, I think they really are trendy, as you said, but not a coincidence that belief in God is sinking while belief in aliens is climbing. The two go hand-in-hand. A country stripped of spirituality will believe in anything. That said, are you aware that Neil Armstrong (allegedly) said he and his crew mates saw an alien base on the dark side of the moon, and were warned by aliens to never come back? I heard that the other day and freaked out. I mean, some guy in a cornfield is one thing, but a retired astronaut who doesn’t need fame or money, risking ruining his reputation? Maybe the rise in belief in UFO’S/aliens is just a logical reaction to the increasing number of credible people who are claiming they exist. Some say they’re demons. I hope we have a chance to find out the truth soon, and I hope it doesn’t end up horribly for humans, as Stephen Hawking says it very well might. (And yes, I realize I just dumped a lot of information and questions into this comment. Sorry. You got me thinking. lol )

  34. Great post. Funny, or maybe not, my elder son, age 41,and I were texting. His mother and I divorced when he was 2. This was before I became Catholic. He said he would give all that he had to have his mother and I back together again. What does this have to do with your topic? That maybe this rejection of all traditional values is catching up with us. Let’s pray it does

  36. I don’t stay too much in pop culture, and I don’t have Netflix, so I wasn’t as aware that aliens were the new in vogue thing. (Unicorns, yep, knew about that one). But I have been keenly aware of how un-PC God has become, and it’s terrifying. I hope to raise my kids with strong enough characters to be able to be bold for Him. I fear for the world they will inherit.

  39. We as believers do need to be bold about our faith, to show the world we are not ashamed. I agree with many about why folks are so into aliens but ultimately I believe that it is all part of Satan’s deception on this world. The ground work is being laid in the world for the world leader(s) to explain away the disappearance of millions of followers of Christ in the coming rapture of His bride the Church. Think of the sudden rise as you mentioned and consider my studies on the Revelation 12 sign which is a key rapture text which points to Sept. of this very year and it makes sense. When meet Jesus in the clouds then the final world king or Antichrist (Rev. 13, also in Dan. 9, Matt. 24, Mark and Luke among other scriptures) will rise up and say that it was a mass abduction, possibly saying a cleansing of all who would deny the coming world system, Satan’s system during the following 7 years of Daniels 70th week, the final half of which is the Great Tribulation when God’s wrath will be poured out on the world that has denied him in favor of worshiping ole Slewfoot, the serpent.

  40. I love the thought that not everyone has completely ditched their faith! I am from a small town and everyone believed in god. It took me joining the military to meet an atheist and realize that religion is actually not as common as I thought. My small minded self almost fell out of my chair the first time someone said they don’t believe in god. I was like “but aren’t you afraid of hell!!!” I was 17 and very naive.

  42. I think part of the problem is that Christians have forgotten that Jesus is Lord! We have taken a Platonian and Epicurean view of God, pushing upstairs into the attic, while we the top of the food chain run things down here. Oh! We’re okay with God breaking in once in a while– But heaven forbid, he actually be relevant or even necessary. Christianity has become watered down with the Middle Ages idea of Heaven and Hell. We have lost the idea of new creation which is the entire theme of the New Testament. As C. S. Lewis so splendidly put it: “Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.”

I guess the hope I can hold on to is that ‘all things always work out for good,’ and that even in an increasingly secularized world, God always hides for himself a remnant of saints.     When anyone does a study, they are trying to get a particular outcome. I’m not sure of the parameters of this particular survey, where, when, or how the questions were asked…. but I do know that most people, when asked if they believe in the possibility of alien life in the universe, they aren’t immediately thinking “Yup, grey men. 100%”. They are thinking “yeah, there’s most certainly micro-organisms on other planets”.

    Asking people whether they believe in the possibility of life in space & whether they believe in Hollywood’s idea of “Aliens” are pretty different, and one seems a pretty clear Strawman for the other.

I feel like people don’t like to believe there’s a God because that requires adhering ourselves to a standard of humility wrapped in truth and love through Jesus, and not the “all about me” lifestyle of pride. Aliens, like a lot of other things, are convenient distractions that don’t require that humility with truth & love. I’m with you!

In view of the fact that the definition of “alien” is: “relating to or denoting beings supposedly from other worlds; extraterrestrial” and the fact that God didn’t originate on our fair planet, God is, by definition, an alien. If anyone should believe in aliens, at least, in an alien – it’s Christians. Jesus, however, is not an alien. Or maybe he’s a half-alien?

  52. O my sister, we are not wrestling with flesh and blood. Millions are into this Yoga plus tide, including Christian leaders and more. I have posted the matter. At first it shocked me, but! Now? Father is at work in each one of us individually. One by one He is reaching us. Thus, He will accomplish His restoration plan. HE WILL NOT GIVE SATAN THE GLORY TO DESTROY US. Of that I am sure.

    Day by day I am understanding more and more the meaning of His written words. Those words are not to be taken with our carnal minds. We must wait until He invest us with those words. I see now our error. We have taken things into our own hands setting up all kinds of ways to defeat Satan, but! We cannot do it regardless the amount of Scriptures and prayers and things we device thinking that we are doing the right thing.

    I just read how the Christians are to apply the written words to themselves by practicing them. Not only that but! Teach others to do the same–an impossibility. We only manage to become dogmatic and exclusive. Furthermore, I have close friends who stick to such practice, and! Are totally convinced it’s the thing that our Creator require. I was there most of my life, so, I know the drill.

    When I read those articles so rampart all over the Internet, sadness invades my soul. It’s like reading dead words. And I pause and reflect. So many ‘good’ people. In fact, it seems like the ‘good’ people surpasses the ‘bad’ ones, but! Father shall set us free even from our own ‘goodness’.

    Indeed! The terrible thing is that all our ‘good’ people out there are part of the tide of peace, unconditional love, the true self, the Universe and what have you leaving our Creator out of the picture. Absolutely the plan of Satan, but! Father is now investing you and me and the next one and the next one on and on with Ephesians 6:10-21.

    When does He do the investing? When He succeeds in making us like little children. Children depending on Him even for the next breath we take. It is then when the power in the following words comes upon us without our own efforts. We write, we publish while He is doing the rest. It is written,

    In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].
    Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.
    For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

  53. I’ll confess, I didn’t make it through all the comments. As soon as I saw repeated references to “Sci-Fi,” it seemed easy to resolve. “Fi” (fiction) is for entertainment. The Word is the Truth (non-fiction) to feed every aspect of our lives and being–not just the worldly/earthly/carnal parts that want to be entertained. So, the question for me is why are so many more in the flesh than in the spirit?

  57. As a particle physicist, what cracks me up about all of these fantasies about evil space-faring races is that this universe was carefully designed so that such creatures would never get off-planet. Evil can’t propagate into the spaces between stars – only virtue can.

  59. “Belief in aliens” is not a uniform concept, there is a BIG difference between your average tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist who believes that reptile aliens live among us, and people that acknowledge that there might be/probably is life in some form or another on other worlds than our own. While the former sure can be likened to a religious belief (actually faith based) the latter really is something else (science/logic based). So this question you asked:

    “How is it that our society’s belief in aliens is on the rise, and yet our belief in God is on the decline?”‘

    … is really only relevant if you speak of the former kind of conspiracy type alien believers, not the latter. Big, big difference as there is no real opposition in being both a believing Christian AND a scientist studying the potential of microscopic life forms on say, one of Jupiter’s moons.

    Of course I personally, not actually being a Christian, do not agree with the conclusion you draw – even if I disregard what I just mentioned. I DO find it an interesting question why conspiracy theories are on the rise while religious faith – regardless of what religion you are talking about – is declining in most Western worlds. Also, I don’t think you can really connect popular tv-shows featuring aliens with tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists – the former basically represents human fascination with otherworldly creatures which we’ve always had (to be compared with fairytales and legends of gnomes and fairies and wwhatnot) while the latter I believe has more to do with gullible people being led astray by charismatic leaders. Which… basically is what we have always seen in various cults, so that isn’t new either.

  62. As the saying goes, when people stop believing in God, they don’t believe in nothing, they believe in anything. I guess if people lose the sense of mankind being unique in the universe as being uniquely made in God’s image, then it’s easy to believe in other intelligent life-forms.

    That said, I believe in God and I also like science fiction a lot! I don’t see them as things in conflict. It is true that a lot of science fiction tends to be atheist in worldview, but I read it for other reasons. The “sense of wonder” that a lot of fans attribute to the genre can become religious, although I guess it can replace religion for some people.

    I don’t believe in aliens in real life, though, not intelligent ones visiting Earth anyway (maybe space amoebas on Titan).

    i did lost my trust in scientists long ago.
    if i want to know something, i just make my research and ask God to explain, what i see.
    He do it often, even give hints what and where to look, what to research more, to get whole picture and always, make coclusions, that show me truth. And what amaze me most – He ALWAYS add Bible quotes… its all there!!! even pyramids… but hidden.

  66. I have to admit, this is, bar none, one of my favorite topics EVER!!!!

    And in all fairness, I wear 80s bands t-shirts because I’m cheap and I shop at a thrift store….but anyways…

    So, I fashion myself a scientist (supposedly I have a few credentials that lead me to that predisposed thinking) and I can’t deny the existence of aliens – although not proven. And it has always bothered me that most (though, not all) people that believe aliens are real can’t also wrap their mind around an all powerful creator – the reasoning they use to validate one is ignored when they talk about the other.

    On the other hand, as a scientist, I can’t prove the existence of God, either, which is a bothersome matter when it comes to the concept of faith for a scientist. I remember having a conversation with my dad, who pointed out to me that I probably struggle believing in God, because I am scientific in my thinking (Ugh…dad! Don’t you tell me who I can and can’t believe in!). It is a conundrum I will always deal with.

    But, there was a saint (I can’t remember his name now…) that said (and I’m truly paraphrasing) that the greatest beauty of faith lies in its struggle.

    I have so many issues with my faith, but I can’t outright deny the existence of a God, if I am willing to believe in aliens…you can’t use the same logic in opposing direction – that is totally illogical (Thank you, Mr. Spock!)

      • I knew I had the quote wrong (in fact, I obliterated it), and it wasn’t a saint, but there was a priest – Fr. Dom Lorenzo Scupoli in his piece titled, “Spiritual Combat” and he wrote:

I agree that we as a culture have largely “forgotten our first Love.” Personally, I hate to sound cliche, I’m more interested in finding intelligent life in Washington than in outer space! It would be comical, if it wasn’t so sad, that people find it easier to believe in ultra-intelligent alien life, far superior to our own, that still has a vested interest in our day-to-day affairs, but they refuse to believe in intelligent design, even when science is agreeing with the absurdity of “creatio ex nihilo.” God’s fingerprints are all over creation, and the heavens declare his glory.

    I am reminded of Romans 1:18-23: “18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

    21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.”

  71. I have been thinking about this so much lately. Not aliens 😉 but I have been one religion my whole life and as much as they want to say they were focused on God.. it just wasn’t. Not as much as I needed it. I have since left the religion behind and I completely had no idea where I stood but let’s get real there is just no way there are so many coincidences. God is real and I think I needed to find that for myself. Even if I did fall back on “the universe” for a while there 😉

  72. I succumbed to sleep deprivation last night so…

    This is a thorny subject for a number of reasons. First is that the term “conspiracy theorist” has been misappropriated to be synonymous with “nut case.” Second, too many churches don’t teach “meaty” subjects anymore. Even if you’re caught snoozing or daydreaming during Sunday School or adult class, you can simply blurt out “Jesus!” as your answer and have a 90% chance of being right.

    I would say Satan has primed the pump pretty well so that “…even the elect might be deceived!”

  78. Love this subject. The best book about aliens is the Bible. It talks of life forms that have influenced humans for thousands of years. So believing in God is believing in alien life force.
    However the point you make is the modern obsession and it being acceptable to view these from a scientific viewpoint.
    Now in the film industry there are only those aliens of interest who are out to destroy the planet, our way of life etc., and humanity can defeat them although the technology is more advanced.
    I am going to throw the Bible in the mix now Revelation 12 – the reason for all this interest alien life forms set on the destruction of Gods rule are limited to the earth. So what is the best way to impact society? Use story telling to contrive an ending where humanity prevail.
    So much more can be said on the subject, but I get laughed at when I go into detail, as a professional writer if I want to get a point across without assaulting the readers sense of right and wrong I package it in a story. So Aliens and ghosts are cool. As you say keep God in the narrative because the outcome is very different to the film.

    Ha! I love that line! And the whole post is well stated and so important. You’re right about the fixation with aliens. As other commenters have said, we have a need for something transcendent, even if we don’t believe in God (which, ironically, shows our need for God!)

    Of course, there are several reasons “God” is losing out in the minds of Americans, including a lot things He’s blamed for, bad religious experiences, and aggressive attacks by radical atheists against Christianity and religion (which was why recently started an apologetic category on my blog). More important than knowing what to think we as believers need to know how to think, so that we can engage the public with discussions about God that make sense to them, This doesn’t produce faith in and of itself, but it does provide an opportunity for them to open their hearts to the possibility.

    But belief in aliens is a lot less demanding. God has expectations for humans, he has authority to do what he likes with the universe, and he doesn’t promise utopia for all. That’s probably got a lot to do with the disconnect.

    Aliens, on the other hand – if you do some research into those who claim to have actually experienced contact with aliens, you find that they’re simply spreading the typical utopian message of “peace”, “goodwill”, “inclusion”, “come together as one”, and warnings about handling those who are “different” and would seek to sow “discord”. Pretty much the same message the skeptic/progressive message has been spreading for decades. Quite telling.

Far too often I hear people say things like, “the universe is smiling on me!” Why say things like that when don’t you know that the CREATOR of the universe is the One that has the right to smile on you and make good things happen? When we put our faith in something as small as the universe we limit the reality of how big God truly is! Our minds can barely begin to comprehend the idea of infinite as far as the size of the universe goes. Think of how incomprehensible the size of God is to our puny mines if we can barely wrap our heads around the idea that the universe is infinite in size.

  93. This is, sadly, a story that goes all the way back to Adam and Eve–back to the fall of Lucifer, really. Pride, the desire to choose for yourself what is true and not true rather than follow God’s direction. Our current culture oozes pride, and pride pushes away God quicker than anything else. I don’t know if that explains the rise in belief in aliens vs. the decline in belief in God…While I see your point, I’m not positive you can link the two issues. I think the rise in alien believers is due largely to the rise in popularity of sci-fi in our entertainment culture. Do I think there is a place for this phenomenon in God’s ultimate plan? Yep, I sure do. But I am more interested in the true numbers. Perhaps 75 percent of our country believes in God…but 100 percent of the demons believe. And they will never step foot in heaven. I believe the true number of people who have devoted their lives to Christ is far below the number of people who believe in aliens. And that is a big deal. Great post!

  94. Thanks for the post!! For a long time I had the idea that people who do not believe in a personal God any more are searching for alternatives. But what you describe is somehow different. People are not only believing in nice and loving and caring aliens, attributes we traditionally connect with God. But they (according to your post) also believe in terrible monsters out there in the universe.
    Honestly I think what we can do is talk about God and make him known. I really believe that’s what we are called to do. In doing so we might reduce the misunderstandings people have about Jesus and how the Holy Spirit is active in our lives. I trust that if presented appropriately people will see the beauty in our faith, in our hope and in our love. Maybe this way we can make people think if they really need aliens to explain their existence.
    Thank you again for your faith and for your sharing. It is people like you who give me hope and trust that God will prevail!!

  95. I use to be adamant about the existence of intelligent life and their having visited our planet. Now I’m “meh” about the whole thing because of physics, not religion. When you get right down to it, the question isn’t important. I think that’s why belief in extra-terrestrial intelligent life is on the rise and belief in God is not. Believing in aliens isn’t hard and it doesn’t challenge us. Neither does vanilla spirituality for that matter (though in vanilla’s defense, vanilla bean can be pretty darn tasty). Casual belief in aliens sounds sciency while not requiring the critical rigor of science. Ditto, for a casual disbelief in God.

  96. We have followed in the name of God but society has hollowed God out into something more, profitable. Gwyneth Paltrow was selling “healing stickers” for $60 a pack. We want the magic of belief without the sacrifice of faith. We cannot buy our way to Heaven and nothing from Silicon Valley will save us. Why would I want to live forever if Heaven may be just around the corner? I’m old. Technology, is okay but it’s not God. I laugh at Sci Fi because it’s rare to see all ethnicities and in that way it is also not God.

Well for that matter the ones who followed Lu C Fer are not of this earth either…Aliens? The Bible speaks freely of their existence. You just can not trust what people and their imaginations can twist a truth to make fun ot Fact. Just a thought on E.T. and not to be confused with entertainment tonight…. LOL
    I could not resist.

    Tell me another way to belittle the truth of God in a main stream way which seems normal to not believe in a God. Even have a God replacement handy to fill the need to have faith in something, well anything but God. Everyone needs to have faith in something. The more we can control it the better, or is never blocking the path I want, Have life your way.

    Another interesting topic today. (I look forward to Mondays and Thursdays with great anticipation).
    I guess aliens are becoming more popular with a segment of society all the time. It seems like anyone who does not believe, or does not want to believe in God, our Creator, and His Son, our Saviour, and His Spirit, our Guide, Comfort, One who draws us to Jesus Christ, is always eager and willing to make up their own god, or imitation deity.
    It sure is strange, when you think of it, the “created being”, man, choosing to “create’ his own “god” in the image of man, rather than believing that God created man in the image of God.
    Our society has sure gotten twisted.

    Incidentally, we have been in Kentucky the past couple of days. On Wednesday we went to the “Ark Encounter” seeing the replica of Noah’s ark, full size, touring through it, observing and learning. WOW!!

    Thursday we visited the “Creation Museum”, doing the same. Another WOW.

    These are both excellently created and done, explaining the complete Biblical stories, and demonstrating them in a super visual way, as one walks through the ark, seeing how things were set up.
    Great explanation of Creation, and the years following, right up to the days of Christ on Earth, His crucifixion, death, burial, resurrection, mingling with many, ascension, promise of coming again.

    If you have not seen these, and you can take the opportunity, I highly recommend it.

  103. I enjoyed your post. Aliens replace faith in God because belief in their existence replaces faith in the Creator. Outer space exploration for populating other planets contradicts God’s provision of a sustaining Earth. Spiritual battles in the heavenlies are considered alien activity. Don’t get me started on Ancient Astronauts theory by our great novice theorists on “Ancient Aliens!” (Now I realize that I threw a bunch of thoughts all into one paragraph.

  106. Really enjoyed the post. I’ve always like the idea of aliens, and that God can basically do anything He wants, when it comes to creation. However, the thought always pops up, “Where are aliens in faith, Salvation etc . . ? I dunno. Of course God can – and maybe has – created other worlds holding life. The universe is a big space (!) Why create all of the universe and then only put life on one wee planet?

    I think what it boils down to is this. What is more important, personal salvation through the sacrifice of Christ Jesus, or the reality or otherwise of aliens? As much as the universe is a big space, so eternity is a very long time . . .

  107. My opinion: You love to hate it, and obviously, multitude of occasions as evidence, so do your readers. Ever since I AM NOT INVINCIBLE, published June of last year by yourself. Aliens is a curiosity. As is your belief in a God. As is sex. All just curiosities. The man who hasn’t tried sex wants to satisfy his curiosity. The man who hasn’t known God wants to satisfy his curiosity. The girl in $500 sunless glasses wants to satisfy her curiosity. You always dis on this stuff, but it’s all just curiosities. And once a man or woman satisfies the curiosity, then it’s just a war of ideology. And your AI for the robots of the future, would they have done it without the aliens??! A woman who hasn’t yet turned a man into a slave? Wants to satisfy her curiosity. Man takes woman’s virginity. She claims him for slavery. It’s the society we live in. I’ve lived it. Others have lived it, too. Divorces result. But as far as I can gather through study, the intent of aliens is the study of sexual reproduction. Reports being experimentation on humans for the garnering of knowledge in the vein of sexual reproduction. Just a curiosity of theirs. Or ours. Or anybody’s. Just a curiosity. Once the curiosity is satisfied, then results the war of ideology. The aliens are very biblical, but you should know that, if you have read the Bible. Have you? Have you actually read the Bible, or you just believe in “the miracles.”

But I still don’t know to what you refer is my dandelion?! Until you enlighten, I really can only see interrogatives surrounding your face.     The number of TV programming hours spent on disproving God seems surpassed only by the time spent proving Aliens are amongst us, alternate life forms (Bigfoot,really?), zombies, voodoo, shamanism, pyramids (structures and schemes) and, of course, the crystals. Yes, everything is possible, everything in Nature holds mystical powers for our enhanced energy and eternal life force. Everything except God.

  114. There is so much truth to this post! One thing I will say, however, is that the cultural shift to “vanilla spirituality” seems more to me like a distaste for religion than for God. Every human being would find everything they needed if they found God, but I think a lot of religion these days is making it harder and harder to actually find Him. We 100% need to keep God in the conversation, but I just wonder what the best way to do that is?

  115. I suspect that the fascination with aliens, in simple terms, is about creating things in our own image as either our saviour or destroyer. Sort of like the Greek mythical gods that reveal more about ourselves than our Creator Father. That’s easier than coming into an intimate loving relationship with God who delights in us, has saved us, and desires us to come home to him. His loving character confronts and convicts us of our brokenness and need for salvation.
    Here’s the irony. There are “aliens” as the Bible talks about other worlds with created beings and angels that minister to us for God. However, these beings are in that relationship with God that means his character shines through them. So we wouldn’t like them either.

It is a comical video but lil dickys pillow talking tackles the relationship between God and aliens saying essentially why can’t God have also had a part in aliens assuming God is all powerful to me it seems almost disrespectful to say that humans are the only intelligent life and the earth is the only planet with intelligent life for me believing in an all powerful god puts you into a place where you have to allow for aliens if god created earth in seven days what has he been up to since then? anyone who disagrees please tell me how and why if you can show me I am wrong I would be happy to change my mind

  124. I guess there has been an upswing in this recently. Star Wars and Star Trek are back in the limelight and both The Avengers and Justice League films are about fighting aliens. But yeah God makes people feel weird and aliens…don’t. That’s pretty weird.

  126. Ignorance is definitely on the rise. The History Channel — which used to broadcast history-related programs — now focuses heavily on aliens. I have no objection to science fiction. What I object to is the distortion of reality. Aliens did not build Stonehenge. (Nor, by the way, did Merlin.)

Sometimes in my posts I refer to God as a higher power, or even the universe (though I know it’s not the same), because I meet so many people (often those coming into AA) who’ve lost faith or never had it. I’ve found that a gentle approach is best, because so many don’t understand that God is good and God is love – they think of God as a punishing God and they think of religion as hypocritical because of some misguided upbringing they had. They don’t even like the word God, so I don’t always use that word, or I try different terms that might speak to someone. Those who bristle with antagonism at the word or thought of God are often those who need God the most. It’s too bad that some of us feel we have to apologize for our belief in God.

    The obsession with aliens has been going on since I was a kid in the 80s, and probably before, though you’ve made a valid point about the recent surge in popularity. I think the thought of life on other planets is interesting, as well as other galaxies, other universes, etc. Just fun to think about.

  131. great post you hit the nail on the head in regards to the alien incline and the God decline. We have to realise that its just a distraction and there is an enemy after our souls. A lot of people would rather talk about something they know is not going to happen or doesn’t exist than God because talking about God would bring them face to face with their sin and His holiness so denial all the way. I also feel like talking is also an issue in relation to acknowledging God verbally but then denying Him with your heart and lifestyle.

  135. The first time I heard of UFO’s and the inevitable aliens, it was like a movie. Now that I know the Bible I can tell you that if they’re real then they’re demons. It may interest you to know that the place of universal action is right here on this planet earth; it’s not in Mars, Saturn or the moon. Demons live in the air. Ephesians 6:12, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
    There’re only two forces: Good and Evil. God has allowed the force of evil to thrive because man’s willful sinfulness deifies Lucifer. The avowed followers of Lucifer will have a day to enthrone satanic worship. It’s the biblical seven years after rapture. Demonic activities on the earth will peak during the time of the tribulation. Demons are disembodied spirits. A million of them can occupy the tiniest space; remember the mad man of Gadarenes?
    Human beings are the owners of the earth, not demonic aliens, who have no right here. Psalm 115:16 reads, “The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.” Satan is only trying to prove a Godless point. The struggle to partake of heavenly citizenry takes place here, on planet earth. It must, as of necessity, attract the evil attention of the dissuading enemies of mankind.

(Really late here) – so the drill on aliens vs. God is that aliens are *thought-to-be* physically discerned – people believe one day we may actually see them, talk be friends or maybe be conquered or annihilated by them (different topic with that – why people love to be scared of things apocalyptic).

    Meanwhile, God is spiritually discerned. You need FAITH to believe, which requires a different set of eyes. Even though the spiritual world CLEARLY intersects and affects life in the physical world, the uselessness of the physical senses to interact with God makes it an exercise people avoid. And they malign people of faith, saying they are entertaining an “imaginary friend” like little kids.

    I’d say aliens are just as imaginary though. And certainly less powerful and concerned with life on this planet.

    You’re right, communicating about God, Jesus and the gospel is our job. There are many ways to do it. But I don’t think it’s necessarily in conflict with belief in aliens. Just way more important.

  150. Hello! While I think this is a great post, I would like to comment on your words about gratitude and mindfulness. You see, there are sometimes reasons people turn to these things, reasons others might not understand. Maybe those who struggled did turn to God first. Maybe they begged and begged for help and answers while keeping their faith and received nothing. Maybe they are angry at God for reasons unknown to others. Maybe they are using gratitude, mindfulness, etc. as a way to heal in addition to their faith. And maybe they don’t have any faith or belief at all. It seems to me that being a bit judge-y about how others find peace of mind will not encourage them to find faith in the Lord. Just a thought.

I think one reason for the obsession with aliens is that most of us are so disillusioned with human nature-and bored-that the seemingly endless exciting possibilities with alien nature and alien worlds are irresistible. When I first saw Richard Dreyfuss go up in that mother ship (Close Encounters of the blah blah) I wanted to go with him, and of course that was what the viewer was meant to feel. Those little guys were just so cute and friendly, and they were going up, up and away from the hum-drum of every day life into infinite space. How could you not want to go?

  154. Love this. I think that the problem also stems from the use of “religion” as means to getting to know God. Because when people hear “religion” they are turned off. People can believe in aliens and have discussions of the existence of them and because it has nothing to do with religion it’s more acceptable and more “interesting” to talk about. I love the Matthew verse you posted because I believe we are also being encouraged to go and show the world that it’s about having relationship with God. Not just knowing the bible left and right or routinely attending church or whatever. ❤️

  155. Sorry, I’m the atheist in the room! I know that doesn’t help your stats much. I can’t lie about the fact that I am quite pleased that atheism is on the increase. I believe in science, not some almighty creator, and I think secretly many more people do too.

    One of the things with atheism is that we are taught as a child to believe in god, nothing else, and never to question it. So a lot of people discover atheism as part of a solo journey, and feel a little guilty about it because of what they were force fed as a child. Then the internet came along, and atheists find out that they actually aren’t alone, many other people feel this way. Suddenly they have the confidence to speak out and be proud of what they believe in.

    I know in America especially, particularly in politics there is an expectation of faith. Think of it this way, 25% of the population don’t believe in god, but 100% of politicians do? I mean, what are the chances?! It stands to reason that some of them are just covering up their actual beliefs for fear of not being taken seriously.

    As for aliens, do you know how many planets are out there?! I think that if you did the maths, the odds of us actually being the only inhabited planet in the universe are tiny.

    The internet is knowledge, and people want to learn more. It’s time to embrace that knowledge and learning!

  156. The fascination with Aliens isn’t new (though it continues to rise). I think the big surge was in the late 90s/early 2000s when the “found footage” movies were popular and History channel stopped teaching facts and started speculating aliens were behind the pyramids and other seemingly impossible structures in the past.

    As for the decline in religion you’ve got two things: people started thinking they only NEED to attend church on Christmas and Easter (so kids don’t grow up with those teachings being a significant part of their lives) and — more significantly — people started teaching that science and scripture contradict eachother. That they are mutually exclusive… Although that isn’t necessarily the case in reality when kids are told that and then taught at school that science is always right (even theories that have yet to be proven are tought as fact) then it’s no wonder that the number is people who believe in a god has declined.

  160. Great post! There is an explanation about the obsession with aliens; but, most people will refuse to believe it. It’s not really “aliens” but demons or fallen angels. There are some real sightings amongst the fake ones. I personally have never seen one and don’t want to. But, I have read about them by trustworthy sources such as L.A. Marzulli, Chuck Missler, and others. The alien theory is a way that the unbelievers will explain away the “Rapture.”

  161. Hello, dear Caralyn. The universe is a pretty big place. If it’s just us, seems like an awful waste of space. I think Christians should seriously consider the possibility of Extraterrestial Life and Intelligence (ETI) in the universe. Great minds have been thinking about it for a long time. Giordano Bruno believed that the universe is populated by ETI’s. Bruno said,

    “Innumerable suns exist; innumerable earths revolve about these suns in a manner similar to the way the seven planets revolve around our sun. Living being inhabit these worlds.” (Drake, Is Anyone Out There? Page 65)

    This topic has inspired new disciplines: exotheology and exobiology. It is a profoundly interesting question because it raises questions about the origins of life and the place and destiny of humanity in the physical and spiritual universe. If one accepts the view that the universe is infinite, which Bruno believed was unavoidable, then its being peopled by a limited, and therefore “imperfect” population of intelligent beings was to Bruno incompatible with the infinite goodness or perfection attributed to God and His works.  If there are other planets, since God makes nothing in vain, there must exist life.

    Modern science knows that there are billions of stars only in our own galaxy, the Milky Way, and perhaps billions of other galaxies in the whole universe. Mathematical probabilities suggested to some a high likelihood of intelligent life having appeared elsewhere. If that is the truth, we must accept it. But that doesn’t mean we have to give up our faith in the Creator, the incarnation of Christ and our salvation. The way of Christ is timeless and eternal. When Christ is risen, he is now alive and forever. In other words, the core principle of our faith will always be the same. I greet you in the light and the love of Christ 🙂

      • One of the great “I Am” statements in Scripture is in John’s Gospel where Jesus said, “Ego eimi to phos tou kosmou—I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12). The light of creation, the whole cosmos. I can foresee no way in which the teachings of the Faith could be affected by the discovery of intelligent beings on another planet (or way ahead of us in intellectual and spiritual attainment).   162. A footnote. C.S. Lewis wrote a series of science fiction novels called “the Space Trilogy”. Lewis contemplated even the possibility of the Son of God incarnating in other, extraterrestial worlds. In a 2008 statement, José Gabriel Funes, head of the Vatican Observatory, said “Just as there is a multiplicity of creatures on earth, there can be other beings, even intelligent, created by God.     Right, let’s focus on the real deal and not the aliens saving us. However, you know that this will be part of the great deception in the End Times, right?   164. Well, this was one interesting post for a girl who sees aliens all over the Tumblr. I don’t think this has much to do with science because people don’t talk about how Stephen Hawkings told not to contact with aliens in space, that it’s “dangerous”. We just look at them like some cute beings, which if they are real, should be our last thought! But why I don’t really talk about God too, because when we were kids we were taught to believe his existence, we never questioned it. But then we grew up and saw real world. Saw that working and actions give the result. The most god loving family might die in air bombings in Syria and no one will know. It makes you realise the only thing you can believe is in yourself.

  165. WOW… You just summed up how I feel and was not able to express. Now, I feel I will be better at articulating this. Hate the dumbed down, version of spirituality of this day’s generation about “The universe”, and “Good vibes”, like C’mon you believe in radical stuff like aliens because you think you’re on trend, but you arrogance won’t even let you utter the word “God” because it is archaic and offensive in this day’s and age.

  167. Interesting article for sure! The obsession with aliens is indeed a curious one. Once I read the book, “The Twelfth planet,” I was thrust onto my own quest to figure out who and what aliens are. Needless to say, I’m no closer to any answers!

  170. Congratulations on your book! Very exciting. As for God vs aliens I’ve had similar thoughts about vampires and zombies. Living a life in faith is not for the faint of heart. Believing in magic or other worldly beings is a great way to avoid maturing in our beliefs; not a strange thing for a youth obsessed, young country. As some have said, it’s all part of the process of coming into real relationship through faith; especially with an unseen, omnipotent force which can’t easily be explained or understood until we take the leap. I’m ok with trusting the process. And also I sorta hope Bigfoot is real 🙂 Looking forward to your book. ❤️

  171. I wish I understood this phenomenon as well. Our family got rid of the television a few years ago, but before that my favorite channel was the History Channel. Then one day I saw a show about the history of aliens. Really? Not long afterwards it was as if the entire channel was devoted to aliens…uph! In the documentary “Expelled,” Rishard Dawkins said he didn’t and couldn’t believe in God, but he could believe in aliens. How do you interact with a world gone loony? 🙂

  172. Most probably the verse of Matthew was referred to the disciples, the ones who received the Christ once Jesus came down. Indeed if you get a tech from who is not able to dissipate your doubts, most probably you get the opposite. And after them to the saints that appeared all over on Earth.
    Frankly speaking, it’s easier believe in another phisical form of matter than a spiritual one, so for this reason to the unbelievers we shouldn’t speak about God (even because in their mind He is an old wise white man) but about the signs we can find on Earth and by logic… But for experience I know the best one can do for the other is to personally reach perfection in believing, so that your been is growing (spiritual energy expansion) then the wave do what you can’t even in thousand of years… and if you reach such a evenly station, you can help them from the invisible worlds.

    PS the Believers 75%? Not even 5%, the other are people who imitate believing!

  176. Hey BBB.. great thoughts, and thanks for liking my blog. As for all this aliens stuff… yeah, someone behind the scenes is really pushing it. It’s everywhere. Folks should understand, faith is a choice and a decision. Faith is not an emotion or a fuzzy warm feeling. Faith is a decision. If you wanna put your faith in aliens, Hillary, or the Easter bunny, you can. I say, put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.. it’s a simple decision. If you make that decision, believing that He is God almighty and Lord of all, and believe that He died to reconnect us to God, then you will be translated into His kingdom of light, in an instant.   177. Thank you for this post. I am just getting acquainted with your writing. I agree with you about aliens ‘distracting’ us from God. I also believe in science and an Almighty Creator, as did Isaac Newton, Francis Bacon and many other early scientists. I am also a Trekkie, and remember the movie “First Contact.” The plot included an accounting of the discovery of “warp drive” which made humans worthy of alien, in this case, “Vulcan” contact. I thought that if I were plotting against the belief in God, I would also use this kind of looking toward aliens for our ‘salvation’ strategy because then, it is thought, God is no longer needed. Anyway, blessings to you and keep up the great writing!

  178. People can believe in aliens without attaching any morality to it. That’s why there’s the trend. Believing in a ‘God’, however, even if it’s not THE God implies there is a creator. If there’s a creator, he/she/it has the power to destroy as well. Ergo, I have to live my life in a way that’s pleasing to that being or else I am subject to harm. People want to believe in ‘something bigger without reflecting on if/how they need to change.

  181. Praying god doesn’t change anything outside the world but it will just make you feel good inside for some time ,SO It will be better to think that Aliens exist and they are outside the earth , may be in earth or may be in the different galaxies.
