Well, the Grammys were last night. And in true entertainment industry fashion, the stars just couldn’t help themselves from turning a would-be artistic celebration into a political drag fest, complete with roses, resistance letters, jabs and mockery.
Not to be out-shined by the Golden Globes, the music industry wanted to flex their political muscle, and did so, rather flatly, if I may be so bold.
But frankly, this is what I’ve come to expect from the entertainment industry elite. They have the answers, and will arrogantly make it known.
The low point of the night, in my opinion, was when they had all different celebrities reading from “Fire and Fury.” Including Hilary Clinton herself.
To me, it read as desperate, bitter and petty….
No shocker there. After all, it is Hilary Clinton.
But despite all the mockery and glorification of the liberal agenda, there was one bright spot among the entire evening.
A bight spot that you probably didn’t even know happened, because there were no major headlines about this brave woman and her controversial stand against an unpopular-with-the-left opinion.
Enter Joy Villa.
Truthfully, I had never heard of her before, but after her courage last night, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be buying her album to support her!
Joy Villa wore a white dress that she had handpainted a fetus on. And on her purse, the words, “CHOOSE LIFE.”
And when asked about it, she said, “I am a pro-life woman…I’m all about life.”
BAM!
You hear that? It’s me giving this woman a standing ovation from my studio apartment in NYC.
Miss Villa gave up a child for adoption when she was 21 years old, and has since become a huge advocate for adoption over abortion.
I can’t imagine the courage it took to wear that, to an event filled with literally, enough Planned Parenthood supporters to fill Madison Square Garden.
The woman’s got quite the nerve.
You go, Glenn Coco.
But it’s just baffling, isn’t it?
Her pro-life demonstration is nowhere to be found on the major news networks, minus Fox, of course.
It’s infuriating. Heaven forbid a woman stand up to protect the unborn. That’s going against liberal agenda. Kill the story.
And it’s funny how, just ten days ago, on Jan 19, hundreds of thousands of pro-life activists marched on Washington in the March for Life, to protest Roe V. Wade.
Of course, there was no coverage on that pro-life event either. As it was grossly overshadowed by the Women’s March the following day.
Which, to be clear: I’m all for women’s equality and equal pay and standing up to end sexual abuse and harassment – but isn’t it funny that a March dedicated to women coming together in unity, actively excludes pro-life, conservative women?
It is liberal hypocrisy at its best.
But that’s a topic for a different day.
I’m not here to bore you with abortion facts. Clearly, Blue Ivy had enough boredom last night for the rest of us.
All I know is that there was one courageous woman last night, standing up for those little babies.
Those 2,700 babies that will die today from abortion.
I will leave you with just one final thought.
Kendrick Lamar’s powerful performance about race, and U2 and Dave Chappelle’s comments on race have been receiving so much airtime and praise and headlines, as they rightfully should.
But if these far left news sources and industry elite would really like to tackle racism, how about confronting and taking a stand against the devastating toll abortion has deliberately taken on African American communities. Nearly half of all Black conceptions end in abortion. Take a look at where the Planned Parenthood centers are located in your community and decide for yourself.
Their support seems a little hypocritical now, dont’cha think?
Yeah, Hilary…you might want to rethink your support, too…

I work in a fast paced high risk ob/gyn office, we do not support abortion but we offer some incredible Christian services to help women through their pregnancy with supplies, counseling, even jobs. We also help them through the adoption process if that is what they choose. My question(s) are these; why don’t we see more beautiful adoption stories after years of failed infertility treatments and surgeries?. Where are these beautiful families and why aren’t they celebrated? Also, you may not have a uterus but that fetus is your child also. What happens to those poor fathers who lose their child because the women “didn’t want it” fathers should have a choice as well, I’ve seen many devastated men dealing with abortion after maths. All in all, just my opinion. But I believe men are important in this topic as well!

Not sure I agree with everything that is said here. It seems like you’re taking a dig at liberals? In any case, abortion is a tricky and controversial subject to talk about. Frankly, I just think that in most cases it is up to the woman if she would abort or give her child up for adoption, but I think it all depends on the situation. I don’t think we, the people, should be the ones making that decision for the woman on if she should or shouldn’t keep a baby, because do we really know what her situation is? Why should we even stick our noses in a situation that isn’t even ours to begin with? Just something to think about.

I’m not sure I agree with everything you said. I’ve been to several Women’s marches and pro lifers were there standing up for their beliefs. I guess it’s just you don’t see the opposition much in photos at women’s marches. When it comes to rape or incest I feel the woman had a choice especially with that woman is young, as a still a minor. I have had read horror stories of fathers raping their daughter and the judge forcing that child who have and raise that child. I cannot even imagine….wow…I also know people who just got pregnant and use aboration as an escape clause, not these women, my mother included should have had to have their baby. They made the choice to sleep with that person and got pregnant. I just want those who are hurt to have a voice and a choice…I hope that makes sense. Thanks for you post!! 🙂

Hi Caralyn Tank you for pointing this issue out. As you know left wing liberalism (socialism) Isn’t just an American thing It is global. I agree with you that abortion is genocide. It isn’t at all surprising that the media push the agenda of one side over the conservatives by way of ignoring them. One might call that the spirit of the world where they have given up the knowledge of God being turned over to their sin and they join with those who agree with them then encourage them. Roman’s chapter 1 speaks to this very issue.
They may think they are enlightened and tolerant but as soon as they are exposed to the truth they either ignore it, dismiss it or attack it. Keep shining your light

I used to enjoy awards shows until they became political forums where people forgot they are entertainers who we would like to admire, but find increasingly hard to. When I stopped caring about popular culture, I stopped caring about Awards Shows. I heard that Bruno Mars won a Grammy and didn’t really know who (or what ) Bruno Mars is.
You see, I have stopped investing any mental effort into the popular culture. Everything is politics with them, like the boring, scary uncle at Thanksgiving Dinner. Pro football Anthem Kneels were the last straws. Goodbye Holywood, Broadway, Top 40, NFL.

I’m a Canadian. You may or may not know that in Canada, there is no abortion law at all. A baby can be aborted literally up to the last minute before birth. How tragic. In fact, our liberal Prime Minister said recently that people who don’t agree with abortion, can’t really call themselves Canadian.
What distorted thinking! How can it be that we have slipped so far that we can be considered unpatriotic and worse, because we believe that killing babies is wrong. Somehow we have become the “bad guys” for wanting to protect the most vulnerable among us. For speaking out for life.
God’s Word commands us to speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves ( Proverbs 31:8). He also commands us to pray for our leaders, since He is not willing that any should perish (1 Timothy 2:1-4). Thanks for speaking up.

As for PP I’m not a fan. They do provide other services to those who can’t afford it but that’s not their priority. I’m a pharmacist and have to call them occasionally to check scripts. Unfortunately on their automated menu it’s “press 1 for abortion services” there’s no beating around the bush or calling it family planning. OB services is way down the list and not all their clinics offer them. But all their clinics offer abortions. So I say no matter what your political standpoint PP needs a change in agenda. Abortion should never be option 1.

I think no one wants to be wrong. The half of all abortions are from African Americans is actually 58%. I read the Guttmacher study the coalition used for their stance in your link. The most likely to have an abortion are those females at or below the poverty level which is $12,000 a year and African American. They have the lowest education and are covered for reproductive health under Title X. Including birth control, breast exams and STI detection. Low education always links itself to poverty which then creates tough choices. A single new mother has to split $12,000 to care for her new child? My oldest kid cost $6,000 just to deliver her. Both of them in daycare was about $12,000 a year. It is a life and a very hard choice. The world, when you are poor is much much different to you especially single mothers. I agree with you, that media portrays what they want because the fans are already frenzied without facts.
Well. Then we have adoption. About 15,000 unwanted kids are adopted each year. There were 652,000 abortions in that year of the Guttmacher study. Seems. Like, adoption could be an option if it was 40x larger.
I was a foster kid. My mom. Was poor. She was a waitress at a nice club. The owner gave her clothes and she’d change there. She was taking care of my uncle. She didn’t ask to be pregnant with me. The club closed and she was raped on her way home. She couldn’t afford an abortion. But abortions are allowed for rape, if you could afford them. She quit school she was in tenth grade. She tried. No one hires a pregnant 16 year old with no education.
She went to jail. I went to live with a foster family. They were in it for the paycheck. It smelled awful all the time. I moved. A lot. I found a family when I was five. They liked me a lot. My mom got out of jail and wanted me back. She had no job. Education. Home. Money. So. The state said, sure. We moved a lot. Her boyfriend’s hated me. I got good at hiding or just, never coming home. I was a paycheck.
I never made it to college. I barely finished high school. Had there been better options, abortion, adoption, women’s health. I think my mom would have been a great mom. It wasn’t her fault. I don’t blame her. We just lost two generations because, we are poor. So. Think about the whole issue. I know you want kids someday but just, think.

You are an incredible person that I, for one, cherish our friendship and the powerful insight you always offer. It is an issue that I would love to not be a part of, literally. To take away family planning though and tell poor women to just deal with it. Because you know better?
It reaches that deeper stigma in our America. The divide that if the roles were different, if I was you. Maybe. In all your wisdom about life in Manhattan I’d agree. I worked near those factories you go clubbing at there. I’ve saw the nice cars pull up and drop off some cute girl late for her shift. I’ve saw her months later, pissed and pregnant. Would I want my crappy life for my kids? No. I know. In 36 years that nothing has changed for those in poverty. For those pregnant mothers.
I’m not for abortion but I’m also not for poverty. They kind of go together. Think bigger.

I enjoy reading your thoughts, your blog was one of the first I came across when pursuing the development of my voice on Mind, Spirit, & Man. I agree that the young lady taking a stance for pro life took much courage denouncing her own child in her younger life and all. However I dont think it hypocritical for Black Americans to voice their opinions on the subjects they were targeting. Kendrick Lamar has been speaking out against the violence in the black community and towrds blacks from the moment his voice was broadcasted and respected across the air waves. Along with Dave Chappell who has been dropping seeds of history, wisdom and eye opening situations in his most recent stand up specials on Netflix. Understand I am not a pro black mindset individual I was raised in the melting pot called Miami and didn’t get along to while with my own growing up. Yet bearing witness to the things I have seen as young man I am glad to call people of all backgrounds, shades, and tones family.
However I do believe women have a choice to bring life into this world yet all situations dont lead to happy motherhood. Rap, abuse, drugs, poverty, lack of education, so and so forth. These situations take that choice away and good amount of the time make it not only unfair for the child being born into it but extremely hard for the mother. One out of four children under the age of eighteen is raised without a father, thats 17.2 million children roughly.
Being a single mother is extremely hard, trust I know my wife used to be one, it took two years for her to adapted to leting me help her do just regular stuff with our oldest daughter.
I have two beautiful daughters and couldn’t imgaine my life without them, yet I fear for their futures because of the state this country is in racially, ethically, and frankly spiritual. To much of anything is bad, there needs to be a balance other wise jealousy and greed will take over. Sadly I dont think it will happen in my life time.

I remember watching a video a while back of a woman calling Planned Parenthoods across America, and the majority of them only offered abortion services, not prenatal care — and with the terrible story of how they started, you wouldn’t think people would support them as much. :/

I honestly completely forgot that the Grammys were this weekend…but in our current age of YouTube, I guess I can go watch the performances I wanted to see there, and skip all of the politics. The media only highlights what benefits their agenda. Someone has to speak up for the unborn babies that can’t speak for themselves. We have a crisis pregnancy center where we live that offers free ultrasounds and helps care for women who are facing unexpected pregnancies and considering abortion, and SO many babies have been saved from their work.
Yeah I think that’s the best way to watch these shows – just the artistry! Wow that’s amazing. Yeah some people in my family work/volunteer in our pro-life pregnancy center too, and it is amazing the world they’re doing and the lives they’re saving. Thanks for stopping by. Hugs and love xox
I came to this blog after you liked one of my posts and started following you because I was interested in your story about recovering from anorexia. I skimmed over a few of your posts and was so surprised when I read this one that I thought it might be fake. But as I see you’re responding to commenters, you must have actually written it. I just want to say one thing. If you want to be pro-life, that’s your right. But as a Black woman, I find your comment that abortion has “deliberately” taken a toll on Black communities EXTREMELY offensive. This is a tactic pro-lifers have used for years and it has absolutely nothing to do with concern for Black lives.
Firstly, white women still have abortions at higher numbers than Black women. But statistics about abortions mean nothing. You know why? Because those numbers include women who wanted to have abortions but didn’t have access to them and women who wanted to carry their pregnancies to term but couldn’t afford to support a child. Furthermore, if you are so concerned about the lives of Black people, are you doing anything to dismantle white supremacy and worldwide antiBlack racism? If you care about Black mothers, are you fighting for paid maternity leave so Black women without means don’t have to go back to work two weeks after giving birth because they need the money? Are you fighting to make sure women who are incarcerated are not shackled during labor? Because if you’re not, you have to ask yourself if you’re really concerned about Black lives or just advancing a pro-life agenda.
Hi Sheena, I’d like to apologize for offending you on this post. I’m very sorry. I do have concern about Black lives, and all lives – including the unborn. I believe that we are all children of God, and therefore, we all have incredible worth that deserves protecting and cherishing and celebrating, no matter our race, creed, sexual orientation, etc. You’ve offered a lot of powerful ways to help and stand up for Black women, and I appreciate those suggestions. Love this article! I have seen both films of actual abortions, and personally witnessed the terrible toll abortion has taken on women in my family and among my friends. Abortion has two victims, one killed and the other damaged for life. I am just about finished with a piece on our local crisis pregnancy center (be on the lookout as it will be done this week) and hope you get the chance to read it. CPC workers and volunteers are the unsung heroes who provide the life affirming services countering PP pernicious presence. Our CPC just obtained an ultrasound machine and a trained sonagrapher to operate it! This is exciting news as studies have shown that when the mother gets to hear and see the images of her child, the percentage who wish to abort go way down. Once again, thanks so much and many blessings from the LORD to you and yours. 🙂

Certainly, I am not fan of the Hollywood elite, but I also believe they have the right to speak their minds as they see fit. I’ve always been of the mindset that speech should be free – and that includes the wonderful dress Joy Villa wore (Loved it, by the way)!
I was recently in a “discussion” with someone about abortion and I am pretty staunchly against it. And my opinion is usually met with disdain from those that support abortion – typically, because I’m male – but they tend to me more horrified that I am liberally minded on some matters and staunchly conservative on this issue. But, I also think it is an incredibly important issue.

“adoption over abortion” – only if the pro-life money bags ( including the Koch Brothers who donated $400 million to republican party) would have put their money to that cause.
I always believe in “Live and let live” principle and do not want to get into the “Pro life” and “Pro choice” debate.
As your Christian faith guides you to a “Pro life” position, I hope you will also be open to discuss your position with a open heart without the dogma of theology with people who believe that the choice should be left to women and their doctors without putting religion and politics into it.
I am not an woman but believe that women should have the choice to make that decision.

I greatly appreciate continuing to read your blog for the moments when you and I disagree mightily politically, Caralyn, because yours is usually a voice passionately defending a stance in which you clearly believe without it becoming a shouting match of right vs. wrong. I am delighted to be able to read the “other side” well articulated.
However, sometimes I feel I must name the sour notes. To call out the left as petty and then punctuate it with a side-eye slam against Hillary Clinton is itself low and contrary to the voice you usually keep.
Likewise, I very much appreciate your bringing this woman to my attention–I didn’t watch the Grammys and don’t watch cable news, so the whole of the event is pretty far off my radar. I, too, applaud her for using this platform just like everyone else to broadcast her views. Where I felt again that this went wrong was in your use of the concept of “genocide” to describe the prevalence of Planned Parenthood sites in lower-income neighborhoods predominantly inhabited by people of color.
I have worked in genocide prevention and have studied genocide history and law. I appreciate your concern but categorically denounce your use of the word here. It dismisses the very real aspects of genocide that have happened in this country and are happening in other countries. That is a heavy term to use and one that must be considered carefully.
Yes, abortion in communities of color–especially Black communities–is far too high, and I thank you for addressing that as a concern. However, the picture is far more complicated than the presence of Planned Parenthoods. The lack of education and healthcare around sexual awareness, the power structures in Black communities that encourage certain actions and stereotypes of Black men, the dismissal of Black women’s ability to access solid prenatal care, the unfortunate statistics of adoption surrounding children of color, and the ways in which Black girls are devalued consistently by white and Black society are all part of that statistic of high abortion rates. Please don’t let that complexity be lost in the very necessary conversation of how race and abortion and adoption intertwine.

There’s no escaping the fact that if abortion were outlawed tomorrow, there would be many more women dying because attempting to end the pregnancy anyways. What of those lives? It seems an impossible issue, with unreconcilable consequences either way. I do think it would be incredibly helpful if all the impassioned anti-abortion voices would refocus energies, and advocate nonstop for absolutely free access to birth control, and absolute destigmatization of reality-based sex education. “Abstinence-only” curriculum seems likely only to increase the number of unintended pregnancies. Honestly, isn’t it just much more likely that the rift caused by this issue could best be rectified through prevention, rather than the dictates of legislation?

I became a mama through adoption. My son may not look like me at all, but he is my whole world, and when I look at him, I am so thankful that adoption exists. This post resonated with me on so many levels! My heart is to show women, particularly in my home country of South Africa, that there are other options, instead if abortion or abandonment (which is a huge crisis in SA). I often wonder if women who have chosen to abort, have been giving ALL their options? Have they been properly educated on every option available to them, so that they can make an informed decision? I do not watch these types of shows for the simple reason that they often include so much propaganda as you have pointed out in your blog posts. Your point about the shameful lack of attention by our media to Joy Villa is spot on. But what do we expect from a media that only supports scandal, sex, and vulgarity? It has become unfashionable to voice support for life in the womb by our entertainment industry. I too have never heard of Joy Villa, but if her music is only a little bit as beautiful as her stand for life of the unborn we are doubly blessed.

You just need to read the lyrics of some of the so called songs of the likes of Jay Z and Beyonce (I would not repeat them here) to understand that their popularity is a sign of an underlying current of degeneracy within the population. It does not bode well for the future.
A little off the thread but in line with left wing thinking, you may have caught the news that Canada is changing a few of the words of its anthem? Just another nail in the coffin of gender difference. God created the genderless, soon be time to change the wording of Biblical texts?
If you’re not familiar with the words to “O Canada,” here’s how the first few lines of the English version originally read: O Canada! / Our home and native land! / True patriot love in all thy sons command.
The bill changes the phrase “in all thy sons command” to “in all of us command.”
It must now receive “royal assent” from the governor general before it becomes law.
The move, sponsored by late politician Mauril Bélanger, was praised by prominent Canadians, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and “The Handmaid’s Tale” author Margaret Atwood.

You’re a brave woman for raising this issue and I’m glad you brought my attention to Joy Villa’s stand. This is why we need blogging which I see as alternative media, rather than lumping it under social media.
It’s been a long, long time since I’ve heard any debate or mention of this topic, but it’s been a long time since I was at uni and have been married for almost 20 years now. However, my kids are now teenagers and so this puts another slant on things. My policy on everything is prevention is better than cure and I’ve also adopted the Scout motto: “Be prepared”. Informed education is also needed.
Anyway, that’s what we say in Australia is “my two bob’s worth”.

I personally did not watch the award show because I just wasn’t interested. However, the topic of racism is just so obviously necessary that platforms such as these must take the opportunity to address it. I agree it was extremely courageous that Joy chose to display a public stance towards abortion and pro-life. Now statistically speaking, the abortion numbers for the African American and Hispanic community have always been inflated because of the actual procedures being performed. The majority of white women that have abortions performed in the U.S. do so in a private medical facility (hospital) and it is paid in full by insurance under the medical code “spontaneous abortion”. This is very shocking for many people when they find this to be true. This has been occurring since the 70’s with the intent to keep the statistics from revealing such a huge crisis in White America. I’m sorry, but it’s true. I am pro- life, but I’m also an African American woman that has had more tears and fears for my husband and son being killed in the only country that they know as home. My trust in God keeps me from thinking about those fears daily.
