Weeping in 5D

Hey friends!

So I’ve got a question for ya.

Pretty exciting news around here. Last week, I was approached about starting a podcast!

Shop this look!

As you know, this blog has been named the Top 3 Eating Disorder Recovery Blogs of 2017/2018. And so I’ve been approached to do a podcast about all things recovery.

Some of the topics would be about inpatient, how EDs are portrayed in the media, Body Dysmorphia, the intersection of faith and recovery, sports and ED, the dangers of diet culture, etc. Bringing on guests like health professionals, ED advocates, professional athletes, and if the stars align…maybe Demi Lovato! (A girl can dream, right?) haha

But my question is this: Would this be something you’d be interested in? The blog would stay the absolute same, there’d just be a podcast also available once a week on iTunes, Stitcher, wherever you listen to podcasts, for free.

And secondly, Would YOU want to be a guest on it and share your story? That’s the other exciting part! I’d love to bring YOU on, and hear your story, and talk about our recovery journeys, things we’ve found helpful, our experiences with treatment, etc. Let me know 🙂

So nothing is set in stone, and I’m literally just gauging the interest level and floating an idea, but I think it could be pretty dang cool if I do say so myself.

I mean, podcasts are all the rage. I don’t know if you guys listen to them with abandon like I do, but I literally listen to probably close to 3 different podcasts a day. While I’m cooking, cleaning, getting ready, working out, during my commute. I’ve always been a “learner” and so I love to listen to fascinating discussions about every topic under the sun!

Anywho. Moving on, thank you for your feedback, and hopefully excitement 🙂

So I cried on an airplane on Wednesday.

Yes, I was that girl, who at 7am, was weeping quietly in her seat as the flight attendants were shelling out peanuts.

I was flying back to NYC from Ohio, and I was listening to my absolute favorite podcast by Fr. Mike Schmitz.

This man is incredible. He is on fire for the Lord, a fantastic speaker, and entertaining as all get out. I’ve even had the privilege of meeting him. And he’s even more dynamic and engaging in person, if that’s even possible.

But I was listening to his podcast from Palm Sunday.

Here we are, Holy Thursday. When you’re reading this, I’ll be at the Last Supper service. But leading up to today, I really wanted to prepare my heart for Holy Week and Easter, so enter…Fr. Mike’s podcast.

They always make ya laugh, make ya think, deepen your faith. But this one in particular, sparked the waterworks. I think even he was holding back tears during it, which I have never heard before.

But it’s about Jesus’ Passion. And he presents it in such a way that truly makes it so personal. I don’t want to do it a disservice by clunkily trying to summarize the eloquent, powerful message he so expertly crafted.

So I invite you to just take 30 minutes, and listen to his podcast. It will truly change the perspective of your Holy Week experience, if not your life.

And perhaps, you’ll end up like me, weeping in seat 5D.

Know that, friends, you are all in my prayers during this Easter Triduum. I pray that we can look at the death of Jesus, and recognize and claim that incredible love He poured out, and believe it to our core. And believe it to the point that it heals the deep wounds and hurts we carry in our own hearts and spirits.

Happy Easter, my friends.

  1. Congratulations Carolyn for the possible upcoming podcast. I think it’s a great idea because you have such knowledge and you’ve experienced what its like for those with eating disorders.

  2. What are you talking about “is this something we would be interested in?!” OF COURSE!!! This is the next step in your messages evolution… I think you need to be on TV speaking life and love into people’s hearts and minds. I’m sure all of us can attest to the fact that when we are struggling with something, we tend to think we are the only ones. Your podcast will not only provide encouragement but also guest after guest relating with your audience and bringing people out of dark places. SIGN ME UP! I can’t wait. This is a great idea and like I said earlier another step on your evolution. Congrats!!!!! (probably a bit too much, but hey you asked) LOL

    • haha oh my gosh you are too kind! thank you so much, my friend. your encouragement means so much! and awesome!!! Hugs and love xox

    • thank you so much. oh gosh, that breaks my heart to think about. big hugs to you xo

      • Yeah everything from 2 yos who hoard food, a 5yo who binge eats because of her emotions to bulimia and anexoria in the tweens and teens. Their traumas are horrible and the effects often last a lifetime

      • Gosh. Sending so many prayer. Yes. I think a resource in podcast form would be a good thing. Hugs and love xox

    • thank you so much Carly! I really appreciate your support. hang in there warrior 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  3. I think you are doing a marvellous work encouraging those who are struggling with eating disorders. It’s a ministry! Thank you too for flying the banner for Jesus. He’s so much needed in today’s dysfunctional world. The podcast would be an excellent addition to your already helpful ministries.

    • Thank you Ian, your words truly mean the world. I often times get down on myself, so your encouragement truly means the world. You are a blessing to me! Hugs and love xox

  4. Podcasts. I didn’t know they were a big thing at all, even though I know what they are. I’ll suggest that you do it. You started this blog with no idea that it would ever amount to anything. I say go for it as innocently as you did BBB. You found your niche here. Even money you’ll find success there. If you find you don’t have the energy/time/??? to keep it going, no one is going to put a hit on you.

Blessings to you and yours this very special weekend!

    • Oh yeah they’re huge! Even my brothers listen to them! Thanks Jeff 🙂 that’s such a great point. And you know what, I would have thrown in the towel long ago had you not been so encouraging and supportive. So thank you my dear friend. Ok mass is about to start. Praying for you 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  5. That’s awesome news! Absolutely do it! And book Fr Schmitz for one of your first guests! The key is if you want to do it and it sounds like you do. So go for it. You’ll be awesome!

  6. Podcast? Pastor, I have only one question before I share my answer with you! A podcast would be an ideal way for you, Pastor, to practice a little pastoring with your pod flock! Would you be willing to deliver a message aka sermon, for us, once in awhile? When I pray about you I see you being called to pastor …. To many people! One other question, will you be podding on AM or FM? My answer: I’m in!

    • Oh my gosh Rick, thank you for this wonderful encouragement. I am seriously so touched. It would be neither! It’d be on the Internet! On iTunes! Haha Hugs and love xox

  7. I personally am not a consumer of podcasts, I like reading so videos, podcasts, video blogs etal have not appealed to me. I would encourage you to go for it of course with proper consideration. In my opinion we all have roles and talents to fit. Blessed holy week and Easter to you

    • Thank you so much for your encouragement! That means a lot. Same to you! Hugs and love xox

  8. What makes you great is a lot of the other topics of faith that you bring to life on your blog. Please don’t lose this. I love this about you. You bring Jesus to the average person and present Him in a real way. I guess my advice for you; is to not be a one trick pony. Use what brought you to this place but let God cultivate it into a bouquet of beautiful flowers. Let God grow your mustard seed for his Kingdom. I Love you as always, Your brother in Christ.

    • Thank you so much Stephan, I really appreciate this encouragement. A bouquet – what beautiful imagery!! Hugs and love xox

  9. Happy Easter to you too, Sis’! 🙂 It’s always awesome to celebrate Jesus and even to learn something ‘new’ that we never have known before. God is Good.

As for your questions, I’d say “Go For It”. No reason to stop your chance from ever learning something new, which those messages can be sent from God in return. Although I, personally, have never experienced what your life (and my fellow brothers and sisters, in Christ) is like, I’d enjoy listening to your podcasts. 🙂 Would love to tune in and be a listener. Chat soon. xoxox

    Stay strong! 🙂

    • Thank you so much for your encouragement. I am so touched!! Amen! Hugs and love xox

  10. I would listen. I would also be willing to share my experience of ED and the perspective of someone who has more than 40 years experience of dealing with eating disorders and the impact they have on my life and spirituality. Godspeed, Caralyn

    • Thank you so much Linda! I really appreciate your support. Oh wow that would be so awesome. Thank you for that willingness! Definitely will follow up! Hugs and love xox

  11. Hi! I would definitely be interested in listening to a podcast by you and would love to share my recovery story 🙂

  12. For a minute there, I thought you had made the quantum leap from 3-D (3 dimensions) to 5-D (five dimensions). That got me to reading–anywho :). I am not a pod-caster listener, but I think you ought to go for it. Maybe it is time I become one. I do not have an ED but you make it interesting enough that there is no reason why I could not learn about it.

  13. I’d love to hear you. I also could speak but only from a recovery via Jesus angle. I am a Doctor of Audiology so know the psych and ramifications and value of aspects of recovery but I am healed because of Jesus and my Grandma’s prayers- I have no doubt and could speak if you wanted me too. Otherwise, let me sincerely congratulate you on this next step in helping people love again- themselves, others and Jesus. It is beautiful and I would love to hear you as well as read your blog. Hugs! XO ❤

  14. Congratulations on your success. I am so happy for you and I pray that you are given the avenues needed to reach these young women who get hooked on “skinny”. I am from a generation that pushed “skinny” instead of shunning it. I think you make a great spokeswoman. You are beautiful(inside and out),intelligent, believer, experienced, excellent writer, belly full of fire and you have FAITH. Qualities needed to reach these young ladies. You are good at this. Good luck!

    • Thank you so much!! Wow, i am so touched by your incredibly kind words. Truly. Thanks for making me feel like I can 100% do it!! Hi

      • Good. I was hoping for 150% but I will take 100%. You impressed me the way you fought through everything, kicked its butt, and then shared what you went through to help others. That takes guts! In my book you are one class act and I am really genuinely rooting for you.

      • Hahah yes!!! But seriously, thank you from the bottom of my heart 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  15. Caralyn, I am soooo excited for you! I hope everything works out well for you in this new endeavor and I’m looking forward to listening to it. Awesome stuff!!!

  16. YES, for sure do the podcast! I’d love to share my story on your podcast 🙂 (except it’s recovery from panic disorder, not eating disorders… my mom has recovered from anorexia). Thanks for the link to Fr. Schmitz’s podcast, I’m definitely going to listen. You inspire me in my Catholic faith, Caralyn, thank you for that. Happy Easter! Jenny xx

    • Aw thank you Jenny! And if it happens I’d love having you on! Awesome! Hugs and love xox

  17. Happy Easter my friend. I will check out the podcast. I am excited for you about the possibility of hosting a pod cast on eating disorders. The more your message gets out into the world the better the world is. I would definitely listen to it. As far as being a guest I might have something to share. I have faced anxiety and a small eating disorder that went with it. I would also be open to sharing a bit about the Enneagram which I have told you a little about before. I wish you blessings this weekend as we move from Good Friday to Easter Sunday. Blessings Roland

    • Thank you Roland! Same to you! And thank you so much for your encouragement. Would love to have you on!! Blessings! Hugs and love xox

  18. See how podcasting feels for you, maybe try it out and go from there 😊 It’s certainly an important topic – and it can add an extra layer/humanness to writing/blogging. I recently shared some of my own body-related experiences (The “A confession…” post if you’re interested) – happy to share/talk about it at some point 👌🏽

    • Thanks friend! I appreciate the advice! And yes that’d be great! Hugs and love xox

  19. First let me congratulate you on your fantastic achievements. They are very impressive.
I am not tech savvy which is fairly obvious when you visit my blog nevertheless I have heard of podcasts but never have listened to one. I like the idea as I assume that it is a very efficient way to communicate. In my former life I had done many public speeches, presentations, appeared on TV several times, interviewed by newspapers and was on the cover page of a financial magazine. All of this to tell you that I am not foreign to be publicly exposed and would be honoured to be part of your podcasts.
3 months ago I decided to start a blog and I must say that I enjoy it a lot. I am 53 years old, bipolar with an affective disorder and a severe anxiety disorder. I am an atheist since the age of 17. I am mentioning it as it could be something you are not comfortable with.
    Peace and serenity.
    Lawrence

    • Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate your support and encouragement. Hugs and love xox

  20. I’m SO EXCITED! Yay!!!!!!!! I love podcasts, and I cannot wait to subscribe to yours!! I’ve always wanted to learn more about ED, and how to help others. I don’t think I qualify to be a guest, but I will certainly be a faithful listener and supporter. Congratulations!!

    • Aw thank you Laura Beth! You’re so kind. Very grateful for you, my friend 🙂 Hugs and love xox

      • Someone told me recently that kindness should be my middle name. I blushed, and humbly said thank you. I’m grateful for YOU, my friend. This blog is incredible, and the podcast will be even better, I’m certain. Love and hugs! I hope you have a wonderful weekend. He is Risen, indeed.

      • Aww that person was spot on! 🙂 thanks again. Amen to that!! Hugs and love xox

  21. Miss Caralyn thank you so much for sharing Fr Mike’s homily/podcast. I wept, and listening again the tears are right there. spilling down my cheeks, making room in my heart to give up those sins, and let the love of the Lord rush in.

  22. This morning I prayed for you for the Lord to help you feel he is close to you, for you to keep your joyful spirit, for protection, and for blessings. I also prayed for the Lord to draw people to him through your blog. God Bless 🙂

  23. Helping and supporting others is something you do best, you have such a heart for people ❤️ behind you 100% in what ever you do Caralyn 💪. Thank you for your prayers always appreciated ❤️

  24. You should definitely do the podcast. God has given you an audience, and this is His way of helping you broaden it. Keep “Thy will be done” at the forefront of your mind, and just rock it.

    • thank you so much for your encouragement. I love that – thy will be done. amen Hugs and love xox

      • Thy will be done is my secret to dealing with life’s hardships. God gives us what we need, even when it isn’t pleasant. No matter what happens, it’s God will for us. Prayers to you. Be well.

  25. I agree with the above commenters! A podcast would be an awesome way to share your message. You’re very positive and uplifting, and that is much needed in the world! I’d definitely give it a listen.

Happy Easter to you and yours.

    <3 Cherilyn

    • thank you so much Cherilyn! You’re so awesome, i appreciate the support. Hugs and love xox

  26. Mind blown….!!! God is so good. I love how he is creating outlets for you to share your amazing story with the world. Would I be interested in listening to the podcast? Is that a rhetorical question? Duh…hahaha…I’ll subscribe right now. Would I be interested in being a guest – Uhhh sure, if an ordinary man like myself would make your podcast better, make you look good, glorify God, and help your other listeners. You are wise and discern our Lord’s voice. You’ll know who to bring on.

Great posts…and looking forward to more BBB moments on YouTube. WHAT!!! You can’t blame me for trying to encourage you to do more…hahahaha. FYI – I have been using you as an example of transformation and influence to encourage some of my Catholic sisters asking questions about doing God’s will. Yep – deep! And don’t say I can’t do it. You know God loves working with you to give us good stuff to help other people. Oh stop…you are doing good though. Anywho!

Sending Easter blessings your way – Miracle Yello!
    Hugs and love.

PS: Have you watched the new movie – Apostle Paul?

    • Thank you so much Ish! You’re so awesome, thank you for this wonderful encouragement. And yes! I’d love to have you on! hahaha I’ll work on it. Same to you, Happy Easter. I haven’t seen it yet, have you??

      • No not yet. I figured since one of your favorite people ( a la Jim C.) is in it, you’d have watched it. That way, I get a Miracle Yello review and decide to go watch it for Easter or not. Watching the Passion today. Guess who inspired it? Yep, someone by the name of Caralyn. You should meet her. She does great work and she is God’s friend.

If I watch it, I’ll let you know. Keep on girl. Keep on.

      • Haha 🙂 yeah that’s a really great movie to watch today. I think I might watch it now too. Hugs and love xox

  27. Wow. He does a fantastic job. Amen! T. W. Hunt also has a message about the crucifixion which is very graphic and reminds us of the personal element to it. So humbling. Such a perfect message for Good Friday… Lord, oh Lord, I am so, so sorry for each time I have spat in Your face and joined the throng!

    • Thank you Heather. Humbling indeed. Amen to that. I join you in that prayer. Hugs and love xox

    • Haha thank you so much David, I appreciate your encouragement. And awesome!! Would love that! Hugs and love xox

    • Oh dear! I’m sorry to hear that. I’ll let WordPress know! Thanks for the heads up.

  28. Great thoughts. BTW I listened to the podcast you recommended in this blog and it was a great. I’m a pastor and that was some spot on teaching. Thanks for sharing. Keep it up!

    • Thank you so much Michael. Yeah what an incredibly powerful message!! Thanks for listening and for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

    • Isn’t he a marvelous speaker?! So powerful. Thanks for listening! Hugs and love xox

  29. I would love to be a guest on your podcast but to maybe discuss another mental illness- schizoaffective. I think you doing a podcast would be wonderful. Feel free to contact me if you would like me to speak. So excited for you! God påske!

    • Awesome! I would love to have to ok. Thank you for your encouragement. Hugs and love xox

  30. So much love for you. I think yes, do the podcast, you offer such a balanced approach to recovery that we need to hear. And, if you felt like I’d make a good guest, of course I would say yes!

Also, I broke down (even though I was up front working last night) at the Good Friday service. It’s such a powerful week to remember the depths of love. Praying with you.

    • Thank you so much Natalie. I really appreciate your encouraging words. Yeah it is such a powerful reminder of His love and sacrifice. Hugs and love xox

  31. When we truly recognized what God allowed his ONLY son to go through for us, it is very emotional! Man couldn’t do that for us! But only him, the Kings of kings and Lords of lords, Jesus Christ! God bless you and have a blessed Easter! Much love as always! 🙏💛✨…P.S do check your spam folder, I think my comments maybe in their suffering from your last posts lolol 😂 go save them lol

  32. Hi Carolyn!
First — made the Sweet Potato/Carrot Latke’s with Avocado Cream… Excellent!
Second– yes. Here’s what I think of doors. When they open, walk through them. This podcast thing — walk through it. God has something for you there that cannot be achieved without the podcast. If you want someone to speak on sexual abuse recovery, I’m willing.
And thanks for your honest, excellent, challenging, passionate blogging.
And Fr Mike is excellent. What joy! Well, joy exudes from him, but the topic was definitely not joyful. I know why you were crying in 5D…

    Grace and peace to you!
    Brian

  33. So excited for you. I did just one podcast when I was a “working” grief counsellor. It adds an extra dimension to your message. Look forward with excitement. Can’t wait to hear you. By the way Loved the sweet potato latkes.

    • Thank you so much friend. Sounds like a powerful conversation. Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  34. Aww, congratulations! I must say, my faith has been tested quite a lot and I’m not sure where I stand anymore. Feel like I’m losing it … 😔. I say do it. I’m very excited for you. x

    • Thank you so much for sharing your heart. Hang in there. The faith journey is long and I’ve definitely been there. Deffffffinitely been there. It helps me to remember that no matter *my* feelings or emotion, *his* love never wavers and is always calling my name 🙂 Hugs to you friend xox

  35. Excellent idea! I think that you have something to say! And I will listen to Fr Mike and I offer post-Easter blessings to you as well! Jim

    • Thanks so much Jim! Oh you will definitely not be disappointed with fr Mike’s podcast! Hugs and love xox

  36. Very cool that you’ll have the chance to share the stories of others. Our Life Logs has a similar premise. Though instead of focusing on one aspect of a person’s life, we tell the entire life journey of a person. I know you’ve had the chance to write a book and you have this blog, but I think you’d be a great person to interview for our website. We are always looking for life journeys that can inspire our readers, and yours is very interesting.
If you would be willing to share your life journey with us, that would be amazing. We could interview you about your life in person, over the phone, or Skype. We can be reached by hello@blueloopllc.com for more information. Basically what will happen if you decide to participate is that we would interview you, then one of our writers will write up your story for our website. It’s a great way to share your life journey and inspire others. Please let me know if you or anyone you know would be interested in participating. If you’d like to learn more of the details, don’t hesitate to reach out.

I’d love to get the chance to inspire others with your story.
Also, if there are any of your readers that would like to participate, they can also email us!

    Have a lovely day!

  37. Praying for God’s wisdom and guidance for you on your podcast.
I will listen as the Lord allows.
I listened to the sermon. Very touching.
So grateful that He claims us! <3

  38. So glad that doors are opening up wide for you and thankful for your passion, compassion, and clarity as well as your courage to walk through those open doors! Am thinking people need what you’re sharing for sure <3

  39. PODCAST!! Would totally listen to your podcast!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 AHHHH!!!!
