Hello friends!

Thank you so much for the awesome feedback on my interview on the Among the Lilies podcast! I’m so glad you enjoyed hearing my story, and the beautifully raw conversation between Cameron and I.

This week, I am so excited to share with you the videos I made from my trip to Utah!

These are seriously so fun. Not only do I take you on the bobsled with me (where you can hear me shriek as we go over 72 mph!), and to the Forbes 5 Star Stein Eriksen Spa,ย but — you also get to hear my friends and I sing some pretty sick 4 part harmony,ย aaaaand you get to witness my absolutely humiliating wipeout down the stairs of our townhome.

Which, I wasย notย going to include, but my friends convinced me, saying it was literally the most hilarious thing in their whole life.

And clearly, I have no shame. So lets blast that blackmail-worthy footage to the entire world, shall we?

*SMH* Who am I, really?

Anywho – I’ve broken it down by day.

The first video is strictly a travel day – with my epic fall.

The second video is our hiking day on Guardsman Pass, drinks at The Montage, and The Wallflowers concert in the park, and High West Distillery.

The third video is our Bobsledding adventure, followed by dinner at Grappa — probably the most iconic restaurant in all of Park City, and some shenanigans afterwards. (My personal favorite video!)

And the last video is our Spa Day at the Stein Eriksen Lodge, followed by their infamous brunch, some singing, and then hanging out on Main Street.

So I hope you enjoy!

Lastly, I got a bunch of questions about the “nuts and bolts” of hiking!

So I thought I’d share some tips/insight that made our hiking trip a lot easier!

First:

We downloaded the app, “AllTrails” – which is an interactive trail map that can be used throughout the country. It links with your GPS, and is incredibly user friendly. So before you head out — (and are in WIFi, or cell service) — download it, and screenshot your map for easy use!

FOOD AND WATER!

These are essential when you’re out on the trail. We all packed lunches — dried fruit, bars, nuts, seeds, sandwiches, peanut butter. Hiking is a strenuous activity, so make sure to fuel up!

Some of the snacks I’m particularly fond of are the LaraBar fruit and greens bars. (This is not sponsored!) And also pumpkin seeds! I get these awesome packs. They have 10g of protein and almost all of your daily goal for fiber — 20g!

And I also always carry packs of organic almond butter in my purse. So I threw a couple in there too.

Water is also of utmost importance. I carry a Osprey Hydration Pack. It’s also called a camel back. I used it in Spain on the Camino de Santiago, as well as these day trips. But it is a durable backpack that has a water pouch build in with a long tube-straw so that you can drink water, hands free, and without having to take out your pack! I like this particular brand because the water spigot has a magnet on the end to keep it in place!

Bring more water than you need. I promise, you’ll be glad you did.

SUN PROTECTION

Y’all know how passionate I am about my skin care. So being up at that altitude, where the sun’s rays are stronger, my sun protection game was on full court press!

I wore this hat — which is worth every. single. cent. It is UPF 50+, and truly does prevent those harsh rays. Plus, it’s super cute. So there’s that. Coupled with my sunglasses, I felt a little bit like Audrey Hepburn.

Additionally, I wore, in my opinion,ย the best sunscreen on the market. I buy this from an esthetician, but you can also purchase it on Amazon.

WARDROBE:

Good shoes are a must. But socks are evenย moreย important. Get a good pair that offer compression and breathability, while also coming up high enough so as not to give you blisters. Remember: your hike is only is good as how happy your feet are!

These were the shoes I wore on both the El Camino de Santiago, as well as hiking in Utah. They’re Brooks sneakers and wearing them is a dream!

MISCELLANEOUS

Other really helpful things to throw in your bag are: hand sanitizer. An emergency poncho. Chapstick with SPF. A little phone-sized waist pouch. Makeup remover for when you’re all finished and want to take off your sunscreen.

This is a little embarrassing, but a little package of wet wipes with an extra plastic baggie. (Just in case you have to pee in the woods! hahaha)

A mini first aid kit is ideal, but even just a couple Bandaids and Neosporin are always a good idea!

And lastly a camera! A lot of people have asked which one I use, and I use a Canon 80D. I love it. It takes incredible photos and video. I would recommend it to anyone!

So there you have it!

Thanks for watching the videos! If I only had time to watch one, I would definitely choose the Bobsledding Video! That was so cool!

See ya tomorrow morning on myย Podcast, Oh What a Beautiful Morning!!

  1. Are you me?? Hahaha!! Great hiking gear suggestions. I also have and LOVE the Osprey Raptor (so worth the $$) and my Brooks trail running shoes. Wool socks, particularly Darn Tough) are the best ever for regulating foot temperature and sweat. I also always carry a SAM splint in case someone gets hurt, and a flashlight in case I get stranded. As an avid hiker, the BEST advice I ever got was to assume you’ll be stranded overnight…bring a little extra food, water, and some warm layers, just in case. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Haha thank you! I have not tried the raptor but I love that brand so much! Those are some great tips! Be prepared!! Hugs and love xox

    • Oh my gosh Benny, youโ€™re too kind. Haha there was some definitely flirtage! Haha Hugs and love xox

  2. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to share these videos. Very enjoyable! I couldn’t help being a bit nervous watching you girls on those rock piles! I know how badly someone can get hurt falling on rocks! I fell down a flight of steps years ago and thought I broke both legs, there was so much pain. I was alone and had left my phone elsewhere in the house. Fortunately, nothing broke, but I’m a bit more careful since!

But enough of that! It looks to have been a spectacular adventure. Sometimes getting away and getting pampered and getting away from “Gotham” can do a world of good! Hopefully you got back to life all refreshed and ready to go!

    • Hey Jeff! Oh absolutely! Was my pleasure:) oh my gosh that is terrifying! Iโ€™m so glad you werenโ€™t seriously injured!! A spectacular adventure indeed ๐Ÿ™‚ I think youโ€™re right about that. Now back to reality and the daily grind!! Hugs and love xox

    • Thank you so much! Oh my gosh that was the best meal of my life! Haha that table full of desserts?! I mean…come onnnn!!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ thanks for watching! Hugs and love xox

  3. I love reading your blogs ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜. They are so fun and inspiring. And you give great tips and share such great stories. Oh and lovely pictures. I too am a person that always wears sunscreen and make sure I take care of my skin. Mine is really sensitive and oily. Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ˜โคโš˜๐Ÿฅ€๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿท

    • thanks Kim! Yes! Definitely do! Especially the hike — they were beautiful! And there were two beautiful lakes along the trail. We stopped and had lunch at one. it was great! Hugs and love xox

  4. Wow, I didn’t realize Utah had so much nature! It looks a lot like Colorado! When I think of Utah I only see that arch lol! Looks like fun! I get to go hiking next week in the San Juans in Wa and I’m super stoked!

  5. Hi.I just want to thank you for liking my previous blog post (leadingkidsblog). I have been following you for about a year now and have picked up on much of your story. I read all your posts except for the recipe ones ๐Ÿ˜‰ . The point I want to make is that I have especially enjoyed your spiritual journey and your growth. Despite challenges and circumstances, you step closer to Jesus and allow His perspective to direct you. It has been an encouraging experience “journeying” with you. Thank you and may you continue in the grace and blessing of our Father.

  6. Very nice pics. Fourteen years ago I was able to go to Philmont, the Boy Scout ranch in New Mexico. Until I went to Virginia, I’d never seen country prettier. You’re pictures reminded me of how beautiful the Southwest is and that I need to see it again.
And now time for an impertinent question: Are you an Audrey Hepburn fan?

      • The mountains are beautiful and I’ve heard that the ocean is too; need to check that out!
I thought you might be but didn’t want to assume (I’ve learned what happens when you do that!) I can definitely see a resemblance!

  7. Hi Eric, Iโ€™m so sorry to hear that sheโ€™s going through that. I will absolutely keep her in my prayers, as well as your whole family. I think therapy is a great idea, because the sooner you root it out, the easier it is to do so, as those behaviors donโ€™t have a chance to become her normal. Hang in there. Youโ€™re a great dad ๐Ÿ™‚ she will get through this! Hugs and love xox
