Dates & Free Falling

Well, well, well. We meet again.

It’s currently Thursday afternoon. I just got back from the gym…which was absolutely delightful. I struck gold in that they were playing a Friends marathon on TBS. Oh my gosh, I was audibly laughing. Yep — I was that crazy girl laughing to herself on the treadmill. But it was a grand time. No regrets.

It’s time we have a little life update, shall we?

First of all — we hit a milestone recently, that I didn’t even realize! I was too busy prepping and editing my interview with Ben Higgins to realize that we officially surpassed over a million hits on this website! What the, what?! That’s so exciting! So thank you for your loyal readership and being such great friends. I am so grateful. Truly. With all my heart 🙂

Thank you for 1,000,000 hits!

Next: a little order of business on…my dating life. Last week, after I casually let slip that I was going on a date, I received so many encouraging comments, and tidbits of advice. Y’all are the absolute greatest.

And since then, a bunch of you lovely friends have reached out, asking me how it went!

So here’s the deal.

The short answer: he’s a great guy.

The long, complicated and potentially disastrous answer? He knows of this blog’s existence. Not the name…but that it’s out there. And he’s determined to find it

In fact, I got a text from him last night that he’s putting his IT guy at his company on the job of finding it.

SOOOO…there’s that.

Welcome to the world of dating in 2018 where you’re only as desirable as your Google search result.

All that to say…he’s a gentleman, and that’s all I can say about that. 🙂

I dunno guys, but ever since Thanksgiving, I just feel like God has been visibly at work in my life. Like, in a blatantly obvious way. He’s not afraid to show His cards, He’s just lining things up, and all I’ve been able to do is throw my hands in the air and say, Thy will be done.

And, I know that this statement is coming right after I talked about a date I went one…which leads one to believe that I am referring to that — which I am not. But just like, everything in my life.

If you’ve seen the movie The Perfect Storm, (which, if you haven’t, take a break from the Hallmark Christmas Movies, and watch it – it’s intense. And makes my inner weather-nerd geek out). But if you’ve seen it, my life has kind of been like that recently.

Things falling into place at the perfect time. Opportunities presenting themselves, and then actually working out, with timing that could only be divinely orchestrated.

But ever since Thanksgiving, I’ve consciously and completely handed over absolutely everything in my life to God. Not that I’ve given up, but rather…surrendered. I think I finally hit a point where I was like…OK, God, clearly I am incapable of making my life work out, so here…You do it.

And I just started saying “yes” to every opportunity.

Ever since my mom’s stroke, she has adopted a new motto: “Do it, and do it NOW.”

And so, what the heck, I’ve adopted it too.

I pray. I feel like Jesus hints at somethings. And then, bam, I wake up in the morning, and without even allowing a second guess, I’ve fired off an email, or said yes to an invitation, or XYZ – you name it.

I’m just letting Jesus direct my life.

Some may call that irresponsible. I call it consecrated roulette.

And then last night….when I was recording my video for my Oh What a Beautiful Morning video series for my free newsletter, Jesus allowed this verse to be the one I chose at random: (Read: I literally flipped open to it.)

Isaiah 28:17-18
Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer,
the Holy One of Israel:
I, the LORD, your God,
teach you what is for your good,
and lead you on the way you should go.

I mean…I see you, Jesus. I see what You did there. Game, Set, Match…point taken.

Jesus – our Redeemer. Yours and mine. Our lives were redeemed — purchased by His blood…so clearly, He has a vested interest in our lives…because He died for them.

So considering our price tag…we can fully, one hundred percent trust that He has our best interest at heart. And truly WILL teach us “what is for [our] good, and lead [us] on the way [we] should go.” I mean, you can just die for someone and then abandon or not care how the rest of the story plays out. He’s going to finish the job.

And that’s precisely what He’s been doing in my life.

The only difference is that, since Thanksgiving, I’ve been letting Him. Fully. No brakes. No parachute. No safety net. I’m just in a free fall.

And though, yes…terrifying, I’ve never felt more at peace.

So I dunno, guys. That’s kind of my motto as of late: I dunno. But I can tell ya one thing: He does.

How do you know God’s will for your life? How do you decipher His voice, or His direction in your life? I would love to know!

  1. You said:

The long, complicated and potentially disastrous answer? He knows of this blog’s existence. Not the name…but that it’s out there. And he’s determined to find it.

In fact, I got a text from him last night that he’s putting his IT guy at his company on the job of finding it.

This bothers me a lot. I assume if you wanted him to see this blog, you’d just have given him the URL, which means if he respected your privacy, he’d leave well enough alone.

But you said he’s a great guy, and obviously you know him and I don’t, but be careful.

    • Thank you James. Yeah, I left out the topic matter, purpose, etc. just that it was “a blog” in a light hearted, playful manner. But I definitely see your point and appreciate the perspective 🙂 thank you friend for always having my back! Hugs and love xox

  2. I’m so happy for you Caralyn! Learning to surrender to God’s will brings so much peace and joy. Praying for discernment with this guy friend of yours. 😉 Xoxo Em.

    • Aw thank you so much Emily for your kind words! And I so appreciate your prayers. Means a lot. Hugs and love xox

  3. Idon’t make any important decisions when I am frazzled. Even if I’m being pressured I give it time and when I am calm the right answers come my way. As for the your date, I think he’s just curious, it’s kind of normal today for everyone to check everyone out online. I snoop all the guys my daughter dated 🙂

    • That’s such a great rule of thumb. Thanks Alice 🙂 hahah oh yeah I definitely understand him doing a little recon! Everyone does!!! Hahah I think it’s hysterical, not creepy! Haha Hugs and love xox

  4. Hey Carolyn,
Great blog, dating is tricky. I will encourage you to Pray, pray pray and did I forget to say fast and pray. Stay pure don’t get emotionally or physically involved. Until you know for sure it’s God. I know in our day and age this sounds crazy but keep it pure for sure physically, that’s God’s way. That’s reserved for marriage. That’s what my wife and I did and we have no regrets. Soon to be 8 children later!!!3

    • Thank you so much Ricardo. I really appreciate this great advice. Oh my gosh what a beautiful family and love story! Thanks for sharing it with me!! Hugs and love xox

  5. Great post! Thank you for sharing. It is always so inspiring to realize when God is working. He’s so cool the way He fills me with such peace and assurance that He’s got it and all I have to do is follow His lead. I totally relate to how you’ve been feeling since Thanksgiving. It’s truly amazing when you let go of your own timeline and just let God do His thing. Everything just falls into place. Thanks again for the inspiration! Merry Christmas! 🎄😊

    • Hey there Bekkah! Isn’t it so cool to see Him at work?! So glad this resonated with you 🙂 yes! He makes it all fall into place! Hugs and love xox

  6. The presence of God can also be experienced through the love of nature, deep friendship, conjugal love, generous service of others, or the discoveries of genuine science. There are many roads leading to the awakening of the original endowment that God has given every human being, of which the gift of contemplation is one. Contemplation is a gift that has already been given. You have got it! What you have to do is to allow it to awaken within you. Pat taught me this. She still speaks to me.
When your beloved dies her light is hidden within you. You still love; you and she are still one. The two becoming one with God bringing your marriage to its fulfilment, consummating it. All creation opens to you. You become one with everything. Heaven is here and now and within you. As Pat said “You ask nothing; you have all.” I wish you love!

    • Thank you so much for this beautiful insight. Gosh your love for Pat is so beautiful, and I cannot wait for the two of you to be reunited in Heaven 💛 Hugs and love xox

  7. It always makes me nervous to share things with new people, especially the point where people who mean something to me read or see something that is important to me. If you end up doing it I hope he is someone who loves and likes you (the last one is just as important as the first imo) for who you are. The ones who make it through that filter are gold. Best of luck!

    • Thank you Liz, yeah I feel ya there! And I would have to agree! Thank you for the encouragement! Hugs and love xox

  8. How do we know? Exactly what you said. Pray. You speak, and then you listen for His voice. Impressions. Leadings. Hints, as you said. But also, read His word. The word of God is living and active. He can speak to us from any passage He chooses, even if the passage has nothing to do with our particular situation. We just have to read it. Which is why I enjoy your morning podcasts. It’s another chance for us to read/hear His word, another chance for Him to speak. So, thanks!
🙂 Well done! Have a great weekend! 🙂

    • Thank you Kenneth. So true! There is power in prayer! Aw thank you for saying that about my videos. It brings my heart so much joy to know that you enjoy them. Hugs and love xox

  9. Sorry, my friend, but I feel a rant coming on.

    I do/I don’t/ I do/I don’t/ I do/I don’t/ I do/I don’t/

    Yeah, I do.

If you told him you write a blog but wouldn’t tell him its content or name, well…that’s just silly. You are a recovered anorexia survivor. You’re healthy, vibrant, and attractive. That’s being objective too. I mean, he went out with you, right? He definitely didn’t find you repulsive, soooo… Quit being afraid of your past.

You’re not afraid of it? I call BS!

You’re afraid of what it might do to new friendships, whatever form they take. Shit, girl! LEAD with it! Maybe it isn’t the introduction, but if the conversation comes round to “What are your hobbies?”, your number 1 hobby is BBB. Why wouldn’t you come right out with it proudly?? I’ll bet that’s how your blog made it into the conversation, right? Then you backpedal. When he finds it – and he will – all he’ll have are questions about why you weren’t upfront about it.

“Yeah, I write a blog. In fact, I’m one of the top bloggers in the world on EDs. Sorry for the lingo – that’s Eating Disorders. How do I know so much? I almost died from anorexia. How am I now? Well, we’re sitting in a nice restaurant having drinks and dinner. What do you think? I just wanted to share and maybe help one person, if possible. God’s blessed it, and now I’ve got a book out and a blog readership bigger than your average American town.”

Why don’t you just stop letting it control your own narrative? OWN IT! Because right now it still owns you.

*sigh*…had to do it. It was with (tough) love. Could you tell? 

    • Hahah oh Jeff, this made me smile and gave me so much to think about. You always have just the words I need to hear – even if it sometimes a kick in the derrière! Haha in the most loving, fatherly way possible, of course. But you’re so right – I am definitely afraid to share that part of my past with someone, for fear that I’m “damaged goods” or for fear that he can’t trust me to not fall back into it – which I would never. That is so true Jeff. I’ve got to Own It. OWN IT. I really needed to hear it. Thank you my dear friend. I respect your opinion more that you will ever know. Hugs and love xox

      • I’m so glad, Caralyn. I only ever want to help you! I was just thinking: picture your fave strong female actor…the way she’d lounge back in her chair, holding a glass of wine and then play the part. “Why, yes, darling. I am a recovered anorexic. Looks pretty good on me, don’t you think?” BOOM! Owned with class!!!

      • Hahah oh my gosh this is the greatest visual ever!! Love it! Taking it and running!!

      • But in all seriousness, thank you dear friend for always sharing the truth with me.

  10. Hi again! Enjoyed your post, very good. Letting go and letting God can sometimes be difficult for us to do but it’s the best way for peace in our lives. We can always trust God to lead and guide us in His perfect way! Like me right now with my health problems and no doctor, I sometimes can start to worry and fret. But God has things worked out, I just need to remember that. Keep trusting God always, can’t go wrong with that! God bless!
    Steve.

    • Hi Steve! Oh thank you so much!! I think you’re so right about that – the BEST way for peace! Thanks for the encouraging words! Hugs and love xox

  11. Lovely! I just want to congratulate you.. for letting go and letting God. Praise God for the awakening of another Christian. May God bless you more! 🙂

  12. This is soo good. So refreshing. I landed on a thought process very similar to all this but i like this consecrated roulette phrasing. Good things are in store. Blessings

    • Hi there Nathan! Thank you so much for your encouraging words. Haha yeah I liked that little phrase if I do say ao myself 🙂 hehehe Hugs and love xox

  13. Thank you for another great post. My life has been far worse than the perfect storm, but I have somehow survived it by the grace of God. Yes, people in my life are going far above and beyond the call of duty to destroy God’s will for my life. Anyway, I hope that you get through your storm.

  14. “consecrated roulette”- I like that, a lot. There is a huge difference between giving up and surrender and it sounds like you have that worked out. That’s really all you can do.

  15. Your post reminds me of the saying “let go and let God.” Which sounds terrifying, but at the same time it can be so freeing.

As for the whole dating thing, congratulations! I will definitely be praying. My first thought was that he’s being nosy. But once again, I often like to do my own vetting (including online vetting) when considering someone for a serious relationship like that. So I guess I’m not one to judge.

    • Hey Brendan! Thank you so much! That saying is one of my favorites 🙂 yeah I think that’s just part of the whole game nowadays. Glad you stopped by! Hugs and love xox

      • You’re welcome! The saying is one of my favorites too.

It is part of the process these days. Which I understand, because none of us would like it if we found out that, say, a boyfriend or girlfriend said some prejudicial things online.

  16. When you “know” that God has your best in mind, it certainly helps to see that reiterated by others, you know?! been a difficult few months for the fam’ – and I need to buckle up a little tighter with the Word….for assurances…

    • I completely agree! Gosh I’m sorry it’s been a tough season. Will definitely be keeping y’all in my prayers! Hugs and love xox

  17. Great entry. You asked how we discern God’s will for us. I won’t get into the long answer, but I will less with a declaration that may leave some scratching their heads in disbelief. I contend that 90-95% of God’s will for one’s life is found in the Bible. I’m not talking about proof texting or randomly opening up the pages and allowing whatever words one’s eyes fall on determine next steps. I am talking about really understanding what please God. Every sin we commit is us stepping outside of God’s will. The Bible won’t tell you which job to take, but it does inform us on how we ought to act while on the job. It won’t tell us who to date and who to marry, but it will tell us what attributes to value in others and how we ought to behave with that special someone. For those decisions where the Bible isn’t going to spell it out, I am thankful that I am in a relationship with God. The Holy Spirit lives in me, and I in him, and He guides. As I pray and seek wise counsel from the Bible and from others I often have a sense of peace about one direction or another.

On another note, don’t beat yourself up about not sharing the details of your blog. Early dating is tricky – and there is good reason to unpeel the onion of your life one layer at a time as you learn to trust. This approach, I believe, is alluring too – and makes the person want to come back and learn more about you. Revealing everything all at once would be like drinking from a fire hose. If this guy stumbles onto your blog it’s not really a bad thing though, although as he reads each entry it will be like he is going on date after date with you, but without you being there. Hmm….

    • Thank you so much Patrick. I think you’re right about that: the Bible is our instruction manual for life! And thanks for the encouraging words. Yeah, there is a time and place to share about my blog. Because with it comes my past. And that is a sacred place in my heart that I only let certain people into. Very interesting thought!! Hugs and love xox

  18. I’m genuinely happy for you. 😊 I so interpreted your dates interest in your blog completely differently than commenter James.. I think it was a sweet thing to say that he’d be looking into finding out your blog. Who wouldn’t be curious about this beautiful lady that has an online blog with a tonne of followers. I thought that was natural curiosity. 🤷🏻‍♀️ All the best.

    • Awww Mrs. zen, thank you so much!!! Yeah it was definitely playful — date I say flirty!! —- the way we were talking about it. And shucks, what a kind thing to say. 🙂 I appreciate your insight and encouragement!! Big hugs to you xox

  19. Go For IT! Be like Mary and trust in the Rock that God’s Destiny has in mind for you. Don’t settle for the guy who is not worthy to untie your sandals. The guy who is not afraid to disagree with you and risk you calling him Satan…is worthy of untying your sandals and worthy to look after your lambs.

    • Aww thank you so much Linda! Amen to that. Mary is such a beautiful example of radical trust!! Hugs and love xox

  20. That is awesome! Very encouraging to hear! Regarding the movie “The Perfect Storm,” my wife and her family were caught in a storm on her Dad’s boat while fishing for halibut in the open ocean in Alaska. She still doesn’t like to talk about it. They were in high rolling seas and her Dad had to navigate in the troughs between waves higher than the boat! My wife said it was terrifying and they almost died. She said that movie is realistic! God bless!

    • Thank you so much Ryan!! Oh my gosh that is terrifying!! Praise God that she and her dad were okay!!! Gosh so scary. Hugs and love xox

  21. Quite excellent! You’re worth looking in for as always.

Television in Ontario broadcasts Texas’ Joel Osteen on Sunday nights, however his faults and strengths. That program isn’t entirely unlike your thoughts when you reflect on The Bible. Please do keep up the reverent blogging.

    • Thank you so much Odell! Gosh what an incredibly kind thing to say. I am touched! Hugs and love xox

  22. As someone who has second-guessed himself way too often, I find your words from this post inspiring “I wake up in the morning, and without even allowing a second guess, I’ve fired off an email, or said yes to an invitation, or XYZ – you name it.” Thank you for reminding me, a Quaker, about the Light that is within all of us. We only need to remind our better selves that it is there.

  23. I love this! The guy (who loves Jesus like I do) I started dating 3 months ago read ALL my blogs the first week after he met me. Says a lot about how much they want to get to know you 😉

    • Thank you so much friend. Haha I guess you’re right about that! What a sweet story! Hugs and love xox

  24. Beautiful post! I love the quote about the waves being cared for, that’ so comforting to me. You’ve inspired me to be more open to opportunities, and instead of being afraid to stretch myself and say yes (like I want to, but nervous to do so), I’ll trust my faith more and step out of my comfort zone. xoxo

    • Thank you Jenny! Yes! It’s such a powerful visual about His love. Amen to that. So glad this hit home with you. Hugs and love xox

  25. Caralyn, you are definitely in a new stage of life! Surrendering the details to God! He does such a great job of directing our footsteps. Things will work out with the dating. Hugs and much love!

  26. I feel that your attitude to the guys you date being aware of your blog, and your “number of hits on Google” is a little out of kilter. You are a public figure, and this is just part of it. I would think someone who was excited about it is a bonus, as opposed to someone who might be jealous, or say “no way I want to date you because you are mostly famous”. I am really confused as to what attitude you might be looking for in a guy about the wonderful things you do, and your blog.

    • Thank you Genevieve, for this heartfelt reflection. my hesitation about the blog is not the size…But rather the topic matter. And more specifically, by finding out about my blog, he also finds out about…the anorexia in my past, my virginity, my somewhat unpopular political thoughts, how big of a role my faith is in my life. There’s a lot to unpack there. And to my past…That is a sacred part of my history that I don’t let hardly anyone into. Basically unless you lived through it with me, you don’t know it happened. I fear that I will be seen as damaged goods and a liability that he can’t trust me not to relapse or something. Sheesh – this could be a blog post of its own! And perhaps it will be on Monday. Haha but thank you for giving me so much great food to think about and pray about. I so appreciate you stopping by. Hugs and love xox

      • Tnank you for your thoughtful response. I understand completely now where you are coming from. But take it from someone who was married for decades, the right guy will be drawn to the transparency and respect your journey. I do understand that you would like to be the one to let him know about the past. My experience has proven that the more transparency at the beginning the better – some secrets and lies can come back to haunt a relationship decades later, and I speak from experience. The important things do need to be out in the open , once you decide you want to be serious, of course!

  27. Let him find your blog on his own. If he asks, tell him. You blog authorship shouldn’t need to be hidden. Though, i have been reading a blog titiled “The Closet Atheist” where the author didn’t want her authorship to be quite public yet.

  28. Great article. You have found the place God wants us all to be, totally suttendered. This is the Christ life. One of total submission to your Lord and Master. Now, Psalms 23 can take on the meaning which it truly states.

Paul lived as a “bond servant”. Jesus talked openly and often about living as a humble servant rather than a prideful master. Stephen, whom the Lord gave a standing ovation from Heaven, was a shinning example of the submitted life. We are called to do the will of our Father, when, where, how, with whom and using what we are directed by His divine guidance. I am joyed you have found that place. Stay there.

Paul said “I die daily”, meaning he has to continually humble himself and surrender to ?God’s leading. This is not a one time thing, or something we do weekly or even daily, We must continually humble ourselves to Him and He will gladly direct our paths.

Make sure you know what God wants you to do in every instance. Know how God wants you to do it, and then be sure to not rush ahead of God or lag behind but stay on His timing. That is why you need to “Pray without ceasing”.

See yourself as a servant of the Lord and do as a servant would do.

This article should be read by every professing Christian.

God bless you as you continue on your journey. May God continue to use you in a powerful way.

    • Thank you Dennis. What powerful insight into that Psalm. Thank you for sharing. I am humbled by your words. Hugs and love xox

  29. An awesome post. Thank you for sharing.
I don’t think that you have to worry about your date reading the blog. My guess he is just wondering what you wrote about him or maybe its his way to learn more about you without asking far too many questions.

When it comes to dating, at least you didn’t do what I did….
    https://julxrp.wordpress.com/2015/02/09/did-i-just-get-myself-a-mail-order-bride/ LOL

I personally believe that taking charge of your life isn’t going against the will of God. More like controlling who has the reigns. It is easy to lose focus and suddenly let someone else in your life dictate its direction.
The good news is that if you’re heading down the wrong path, God will not hesitate to put you back on track if you ask him to. Life is still a choice. Its still the free will and sometimes like a good father he will let us make the choices, whilst hinting at which route leads to joy and success.

    • Thank you so much for the great advice I look forward to reading your post. Amen to that. Hugs and love xox

  30. You wrote, “Welcome to the world of dating in 2018 where you’re only as desirable as your Google search result.” This sounds eerily like the world of publishing in 2018: You’re writing is only as desirable to publishers as the breadth of your platform; content matters for little. A sad commentary, indeed, for good but as-yet unknown writers. And yet, much like your conclusion that you must leave everything in God’s hands, I must do the same for my writing. Thanks for the reminder.

    • Thanks for sharing that. Yeah the internet has definitely changed the game for a lot of industries! Hugs and love xox

  31. Sometimes during my quiet time with God, a desire I earlier felt in my heart to do something but ignored, comes back stronger. It’s like God just points to it again as I sit there talking with Him. Other times especially when I’m seeking direction on how to go about a thing, He just opens up my heart to see/understand something I know I would never have imagined on my own. Sometimes I just hear His voice in my heart so clearly that it’s unmistakable. But these times are sooooo precious and rare.
And thank you for this – If he died for us, then it means He has an interest in our lives. I feel like screaming and dancing right now knowing He is soooooo mindful of me. Thank you for always sharing.

    • Thank you so much for sharing that. Wow that is so beautiful. Precious indeed. Thanks Oge. Amen. Hugs and love xox

  32. Let go, let God, Caralyn. LOL! Your dating life seems to follow my daughter’s, who’s roughly your age. Be yourself. If this is going to work out if will be because of who you are. I just wrote on my little blog—Shine Your Light! Enough dad advice. Have a great day!

    • Thanks so much for this encouragement!! It seriously means a lot. Can’t wait to read your post! Hugs and love xox

  33. Thanks for the Blog Post. I must admit that I have been accepting opportunities that come my way as God-ordained opportunities. While it seems that God has placed it on my heart to do something, it is not until I make the decision to trust, that I actually follow through. While I may miss God’s will by accepting some opportunities, I have determined that my pursuit of His will is my highest priority. Thanks for sharing your story with us. Grateful!

  34. Caralyn, Your write up are beautifully crafted, that anyone who reads can feel what surpassed. Every article is inspiring and proclaims Gospel. May God be with you and guide you at each step.

  35. I think you have a very mature perspective and you’ve now experienced a key that most people are too afraid to walk in which is handing everything over to God. We love to think that we know best but when we can cross that hurdle of reaching the end of ourselves so that God can take over we experience a freedom that is not of this world. I have been at a similar place in my life this year. When it comes to hearing Gods voice I found a lot of help in the pages of “Hearing God’s Voice” by Henry and Richard Blackaby. But I think this statement was the most helpful for me. (Paraphrased) When people heard from God in the Bible they always knew it was God.

    • Thank you so much! What kind words, I really appreciate that. I will definitely check out that book. Thanks for the recco. Hugs and love xox

  36. I really did enjoy your post and took the leap on the date. It’s good that you found someone you can connect with. I loved your post about God I’m a little jealous though. I wish I knew how to do what you did and leave it to God. Your faith is strong I admire how you just trusted God. I’m feeling a bit low cause I suck at everything and maybe hope you can help me with a prayer like you did that I may get God to intervene in my life to. Your mom has wise words to

    • Thank you Vishal! So glad you enjoyed it. I will definitely keep you in my prayers. I’m sorry you’re been having a challenging season. Hang in there. Hugs and love xox

      • Thank you so much I’d appreciate the prayer. You are so amazing I’m glad u shared your experience so other would be inspired to.

    • Haha thanks friend. I liked that little phase too if I do say so myself hehe Hugs and love xox

  37. Thank you, Caralyn, for sharing this experience. It’s given me hope, especially in times like these when I’m troubled about my God-life. Whew.

Anyway, I’m excited to hear more of your next stories!

    • Thank you friend! Hahha yeah pretty funny situation 🙂 I appreciate you stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  38. Wow! The same thing has been happening to me. In the last few weeks He has been obvious in His direction. The latest communication was repeated 4 times. His message was to focus. That set me on a path. I’m listening every morning.

  39. Wow. This is my first time visiting your blog, and feel like you’re my sister with that story. Our humor is so much alike! LOL. Loved the story and will continue to follow you. God bless you on your journey my friend.

    • Thank you Kari! Oh my gosh that’s so kind of you to say! So glad you enjoyed the read!! Aw thanks, you as well friend! 💛 Hugs and love xox

  40. Keep doing what you are doing and reaching out to the younger group mostly. Eating the right meal is most important to sleep and exercise. If I know of someone who can use your service, I will refer them.

    • Thank you so much 🙂 I would be so honored for you to pass this blog along! And yes! Those are so important 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  41. Love this entry today!! I will be blogging about hearing God’s voice at Livingjoytoday in January!! And “Free Falling” is a great way to to just let go and let God be in control, girl!

  42. How self-centered/obsessed and small minded must you be to think “God has been visibly at work in my life” ?
Has God also been at work in the millions of currently starving childrens’ lives as well? Or just you and your sheltered little one?

    • Hi Amanda, I’m sorry you feel that way. There is a lot that I don’t understand in this world – and starving children and poverty definitely top the list. It is so incredibly tragic and as people who have resources, it is our job to care for those little ones and in need – just like Jesus instructs us. And if you look at His ministry, that is precisely what He did, and we are to follow His example. And to answer your question, no, I don’t think it is self centered or obsessed, because God is working in all of our lives. You could ask the question: “was God at work in my life when I was anorexic and starving and 78 pounds, on death’s door? Was He working then?” And I will tell you – God doesn’t *make* those bad things happen. But what He *does do, is work them together for good. And sitting here today, whole, healthy and thriving, I can honestly say that I am grateful for those lessons I had to learn the hard way. That season instilled in me my faith and trust in God. It taught my humility. It broke my pride. Strengthened my relationships. And set me on the path He has planned for my life. And none of those things were my doing. All His. So am I self centered and obsessed? Listen – I am nothing without God. I probably wouldn’t even be alive. So, thank you, for sharing your opinion. God bless you, friend.

  43. Another great post! I love what you wrote: “I wake up in the morning, and without even allowing a second guess, I’ve fired off an email, or said yes to an invitation, or XYZ – you name it.” – Yes, friend!! So powerful, so inspiring!

I’m a weather-nerd, too. The Perfect Storm, though intense, is actually one of my favorite movies. I don’t watch it every year or anything, but if it’s on TV, I’m just drawn to it.

  44. Wonderful post, my friend!!! Funny that you put God in control of your life, as i feel i started doing that after my near suicide attempt 7 years ago. I stopped trying to control everything and put it all in His hands. I’ve truly cherished and enjoyed every day since then. I’ve been so blessed with friends and experiences since then that i have to stop a lot and thank God for all he’s given me. Keep it up, Caralyn! You’re awesome!

    • thank you for sharing your story, David. I’m so glad that you’ve found the freedom in His hands! Hugs and love xox

    • Thank you for all your reading today Matthew!! I am ready for the adventure! Hugs and love xox

  45. Amen sister!! I came to a point when I put all my trust in Jesus Christ and He has been amazing for the past several years. Always the right timing for everything, whether it is pleasant or not. But always blessings cone from it all. AMAZING! So glad you have chosen that path too. Way to be!!

  46. In response to your last questions. I’d say God speaks a billion different ways. I moved to Indiana because of a tv show with an Indiana sign caught my attention after a talk with a friend about moving. Next I pray about it, within a minute or so I see 2 Indiana license plates (in CA) and a billboard that said “the sign you were looking for”. I do some “bible roulette” right after and land on Mark 10:28-31. Two months later I moved to Indiana. I’ve also heard “His voice” speak to me, typically like an inner voice yet not your own. His voice typically leaves me in awe. There’s also tongues and interpretations, visions/trances, scripture, the creation, other people (especially but not limited to prophets), etc. He is the Word that upholds all things so I suppose He could speak through all things if He desires haha. “My sheep hear My voice and they know Me and follow Me.”

What are ways that you hear Him???

    • A billion different ways. Thanks for sharing your story. Yes! His sheep know His voice! Hugs and love xox
