UNPLANNED: The Movie They Don’t Want You to See

I need you to stop what you’re doing right now, and Google where in your city, the movie Unplanned is playing. And then go see it.

YOU GUYS. I am so fired up right now.

I just got out of seeing Unplanned. Now, if like me, you have never heard of this groundbreaking film, well that’s because the mainstream media doesn’t want you to see it.

Why?

Because it’s a powerful ProLife movie that completely exposes Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry.

And they’ve even slapped it with an R rating, (despite there being absolutely zero language, drugs, sex or profanity) just to dissuade people from seeing it, and prevent kids under 18 to be able to see it.

Which – it’s ludicrous. Ken Rather, Exec VP of Pure Flix says it best: “A 15-year old girl can get an abortion without her parent’s permission, but she can’t see this movie without adult supervision? That’s sad.

Unplanned tells the story of Abby Johnson – a former Planned Parenthood Clinic Director (and PP Employee of the Year), who oversaw over 22,000 abortions in her career — and her journey to leaving Planned Parenthood and becoming a prolife advocate.

It is beyond powerful. I ugly cried no less than six times during the film. And even in the cab as I’m typing this out on my phone, I still have tears trickling down my cheek.

But for as emotionally moved and fired up about taking action, I am also filled with deep disappointment.

Why?

Because I was the only person in the theater.

Yes, you read that correctly.

I was the only person in the entire theater. New York City. One of the largest cities in the world. And only one theater is showing the film. And it is empty.

Talk about a let down.

Compare that to when my parents saw the film a couple days ago in Ohio: the theater was literally sold out.

Sold out!! And at the end of the film, a guy stood up and yelled “Now let’s do something about it!!” To which, the entire movie theater erupted in applause.

Isn’t that the truth.

Now let’s do something about it.

My prolife beliefs are no secret on here. This post is not going to spell those out – See the movie, and you’ll know exactly how I feel.

But what I do want to end with is this:

How, can we do something about it?

Truly, How. Because the truth is, we’re up against Goliath. The culture of death is so smart and conniving, and has crafted the manipulative language that by being pro-life, you are a) against women, b) against providing “safe reproductive health care” to women and c) saying that women shouldn’t have control over their bodies.

Those are the arguments, and it is dang hard to have the courage to even admit to being prolife, when that is what the opposition has gotten the entire country to believe.

You’re a bible banger. Oppressive. Anti-woman. Heartless against women in need of health care.

This film provides such an incredible opportunity to open up a dialogue. But we need people to see it. And with how deep Planned Parenthood’s pocketbooks go with donors and supporters — no one in the mainstream media is going to come out and support or even allow advertising for this film, because they’re financially in bed with Planned Parenthood.

Now let’s do something about it.

After the film, I couldn’t leave. I just sat there in my seat until all the credits rolled, they turned on the lights, and after about ten minutes, the young woman who was cleaning up the theater came in with her broom and dustpan and was like….”Uhh, you gotta clear out.

Embarrassed, I dried my tears, finished up the tweet I was writing, and got up to leave. And that’s when the Holy Spirit came over me to talk to this girl.

I mean, she was about my age. Cleaning up spilled popcorn and ICEEs at an NYC movie theater. And I just felt moved to talk to her.

Have you seen this movie?”

And clearly, seeing all the mascara that had run down my face she said…”Naw…what’s it about??”

And I said, “Actually, it’s about abortion.”

Mmm, that ain’t my speed.

And I said with a laugh, “Yeah, my mom wanted me to see this movie.” But then added, “It was incredibly powerful. I would really encourage you to see it.”

And she just kind of looked at me with curiosity. No judgement, not blowing me off. And I said, “I just think, right now it’s important to be informed about what’s going on in the world.

To which, she replied – “Yeah, a lot of crazy $h*t out there.”

I smiled and as I turned to go, and she called after me, “Was it life changing?”

And I looked her in the eye and said, “Absolutely.” I introduced myself, shook her hand, and as I was leaving, I thanked her for how nice and clean the theater was, and she gave this huge grin – I think that, honestly, someone noticed.

I don’t know – maybe that conversation was nothing. Maybe the girl just really had to take a pee and wanted me to get the heck out of the theater so she could go on break and take care of business. But I don’t know…I just hope that maybe she’ll think about seeing the film. Or at least, feel good that someone noticed the hard work she was doing.

We all have opportunities to do something about abortion. Simply being open to having a conversation about it is a big one. We don’t have to bash our beliefs, or judge someone, or be combative about it. But just share that Unplanned was a powerful film. Or even just share this post!

But that’s not the only thing — supporting positive prolife media. That’s a huge one! The mainstream culture of death for sure isn’t going to promote or support this film. WE MUST.

We can also support prolife crisis pregnancy centers. This is SO CRUCIAL. My family is very involved in our local prolife crisis pregnancy center. These are amazing because they really do offer support and resources for young and older women who are in an unplanned pregnancy – as well as continued care and support even afterwards.

And lastly, the thing I was honestly SHOCKED by, is that I was really moved to go and pray outside of Planned Parenthood in NYC. And actually, I’ve already looked up where they are. I’m not going to carry a sign or be some outspoken, violent protestor – I’m just going to stand, and pray.

Because if there’s one thing I came away from this movie with, it’s that there is power in prayer.

Go see this film. You will not be the same.

    • Yes! Absolutely! Thanks Ryan, i will join you in that important prayer! Hugs and love xox

  1. I hate going to the theater, but let us know when it’s available on Amazon Home Video, and maybe I’ll watch it on TV! I can’t remember the last time a movie made me all gushy!! So, no one was in the theater? Okay, everyone out there reading Caralyn’s blog post–let’s show up in that theater and get a party started!! Posthaste!! Party at NYC!!

    • Hi Meg, I’ll definitely let you know if I hear anything!! Hahaha YES!! PARTY IN NYC!!!! Haha oh my gosh that would seriously be a blast. I’ll bring the playlist!! 🙌🏼💃🏻💛 Hugs and love xox

  2. I am shocked. The only one?! My mouth literally fell open! I was super excited to see you went and to read your review. It was sold out here and I was too late in getting tickets. Thank you for taking a stand. #strongertogether Prayers and blessings!

    • The. Only. One. It was crazy. I’m so glad to hear it was sold out!! Definitely check it out. It was – very emotional – but a must see. Hugs and love xox

  3. I was hoping you would go and tell us about it. I’m not going to see it. I was in High school when abortion became legal and I saw enough of my friends suffer from what was almost looked at as a new form of birth control. Today some of these ladies are Grandma’s and suffer almost like PTSD from the memory. Some did not even make the choice their parents did. A real mess that is really out of control, and what I can’t understand is why there is not as much effort put in to preventing pregnancy as there is terminating them. Someone is getting rich somewhere.

    • Hi Alice! Thank you for taking the time to read. I appreciate you sharing that. Gosh, I’m so sorry to hear that. I will definitely keep them in my prayers. You’re right about that. glad you stopped by. big hugs xo

  4. Now you make me want to see it. It IS showing at the theater in southern California near my house. But like you, I truly wonder whether it will be “sold out” like yours. LOL. The R rated was uncalled for – I agree. Maybe PG, PG-13 at worse? And did you hear that their Twitter account was temporarily suspended? That’s right – Twitter said it might have been “inadvertent” and reinstated it but who knows? Errggggh. Whatever happened to free speech?

On the whole, I’m glad this movie came out. Did you see “October Baby?” Came out a few years ago; the story was about a young woman given up for adoption after a failed abortion, searching for her birth mother and “answers”. it connected with a lot of people too.

    • Hi friend, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this. Yeah, the R rating was definitely uncalled for. A solid PG 13 for sure. There were definitely several scenes that were very uncomfortable, and I had to look away. But it is a honest depiction of the truth. I know – the whole twitter fiasco was just laughable. What happened to free speech indeed. I did see OCtober Baby – a while ago so I don’t remember it exactly, but we need more positive media out there!! Definitely see it if you get the chance! thanks for stopping by! hugs xo

  5. I look forward to seeing it. We recently watched Gosnell on DVD and plan on seeing this one too.

It shouldn’t surprise me that you had the theater to yourself in NYC. Who would believe that once upon a time it was the Democrats who filled cities like NY with pro-life voters and politicians.

    • Hi JP, thanks so much 🙂 Oh my gosh, Gosnell was another one that was just heartwrenching. Wow, crazy to think!! hugs xo

  6. Had ample opportunity this weekend but declined because I heard it was graphic (in terms of presenting, you know, the reality of abortion). I was worried i’d have lost my lunch. I’m a little ashamed of that. People are dying and this movie begs people to see it. And I skipped because I couldn’t handle the reality of the murder.

I will definitely be giving them my money when it comes out on video. I might see it in theaters. but just gotta talk myself into it.

Thank you for this report. I hope your little conversation snowballs, and the next showing in NYC is filled to the brim.
    AMDG

    • Hi Scoot, it presents the truth, that’s all I’ll say. Although some parts were difficult to watch, I was so glad I went. Thanks so much for taking the time to read! Hugs and love xox

  7. I saw the movie Saturday night with Xero expectation. I wasn’t even sure what it was about. Blew me away. It was hard to watch but a must see for my family! I have a 16 year old impressionable daughter who needs to see the hard reality of abortion. WOW. thanks for sharing this with the world!

    • Thanks friend, yeah it was really difficult at parts to watch, but like you said – an absolute must to see. The reality of truth. big hugs xo

  8. I read an article earlier that twitter has been (apparently) playing games with the movie’s twitter account. People who had followed the movie on twitter later found they were mysteriously not following them anymore. I followed the account earlier today and just checked. Still following. Maybe there was enough complaining for twitter to lay off. Check it out and follow: https://twitter.com/UnplannedMovie

    • Hi James, yeah – there was definitely some shadiness on Twitter. They disabled their account, but later said it was an accidental glitch. Likely story. Hugs and love xox

  9. Fantastic blog, as always! thank you so much for filling us in on how moving it was. I wanted to go see it, but now I’m truly sold on it. (Especially because they’re trying to dissuade people from seeing it…) Love following your blog! (And thanks for following mine, too! I remember you were the first view on my first post! Thank you!) 😀

    • Thank you so much cocomary. It really is a powerful movie. Difficult moments at times but such a necessary film. Awwww so great 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  10. Awesome blog! Any nation that stops respecting babies and the elderly is a nation thats headed for hard times if they dont repent. I am deeply concerned for America.

  11. BBB,

Perhaps contacting high schools, and speaking to sex ed teachers, suggesting class field trips to see it. As a class, or if their is push back from politics, then after school hours but still as a class.

I had a question completely off topic. When you went premium or upgraded on WordPress, did you notice an increase in growth that you can say was linked to upgrading? Or was the growth more of your hard work ethic?

    Thanka

    • I think this definitely needs to get into the hands of schools. Absolutely. To be honest, the upgrading actually stunted my growth. When you upgrade, it deletes the “reblog” button as well as the option for readers to comment straight from the email. Before I upgraded my posts would get around 5-600 comments per post, and now, you can see, I’m down to around 200ish per post. If I didn’t have to have a business account for google analytics purposes, I absolutely would not have upgraded. It’s actually a really tragic thing haha. I have tried and tried to get WordPress to change the way they configure the upgrade, but to no avail. My advice: pay the cash for a premium theme but skip the upgrade. I don’t even use any plugins except for google analytics. But that’s just my two cents!!

      • Thank you for the helpful feedback. Ahhhh, shucks.. I know it must be tough wrestling with the average mean of 200 replies per post. Spoiled writer! Just kidding. You earned what you have acquired. Gee, 600! How the heck did you even manage that. Wow. Thanks again BBB.

      • Hahaha I’m afraid that came out badly and not the way i meant it! 😬 I was just trying to show perspective haha not trying to toot my horn, I promise!! I am incredibly grateful, believe me!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

      • BBB, I was being sarcastic.. Truly. You are a class act. I knew you weren’t bragging. And in no way did your response convey that. I promise.

      • Ok good good. Phew!!! 🙂 hahaha thanks – have an amazing night!! And whatever you decide to do with the upgrading or not of your blog, best of luck!!!! 🙂

  12. I must confess you are simply amazing. You showed up at the theatre alone? In New York City? Hmmmnnn.

I’m glad you didn’t leave out of sheer discouragement.

God bless you for those kind words you said to that woman. That’s a sees you have sown.

Abortion is not God’s idea. We’ll keep praying.

Your blog posts are interesting. I always look forward to them. Much love.

  13. I haven’t seen it yet. Unfortunately, I’m very busy this week, and I have a feeling it’ll only be in the theater for one week. I hope your conversation with the usher did something in her heart… and I hope someone who needs to see this movie does.

I’m just glad that the Supreme Court rightfully struck down the state law here that literally required pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise for the nearest abortion clinic. The truly scary thing is that it was a 5-4 decision, despite being a clear violation of free speech.

  14. UNPLANNED is playing in Memphis, but only three screens and only at 10:00. Talk about death by time slot!

Thank you for bringing it to our attention! I’ll see if it’s still here by the time I can go see it.

I think you did that girl a world of good. You got her thinking. You made her feel good. She just might see the movie. Here’s the thing; you can drop a small stone into a large pond, and the ripples will carry pretty far. It isn’t always about size, but distance. Imagine if, after seeing that movie, she continues what you started with her and – maybe – someone considering an abortion decides not to. Just because you were nice to that girl in the theatre.

With God, all things are possible!

    • It really is just an outrage the way they are treating this film. They are doing their best to squelch it. Come hell or high water, God will find a way. Thanks so much, Jeff. I hope you can get a chance to see it. Wow, i love that imagry of the pebble. I have never heard that before but wow – i love it. thank you friend. 🙂 amen! with God! hope you and Julie have a lovely week! hugs xox

  15. We never know how we impact other people with our actions and words. The simple fact that you followed God’s tug at your heart to talk with this girl, to me, means that you were in the right place at the right time for that girl, and maybe even yourself. God can move a mountain with a whisper. We just have to listen to Him. God Bless!

    • That is so so true, Greg. Thanks so much for your encouraging words. Amen to that! God can do all things!! hugs xox

  16. I assume you know this, but just in case you don’t, the movie was first a book by the same title Unplanned, and although it may not be as gripping, it still made me angry and incredibly sad. I’m sure the book is not rated for all under-18 people out there who “may not” see the movie.

    • Hi Yolanda! Yes! I did know that – I really want to read it! That’s a great point. Thanks so much for stopping by! big hugs xo

  17. Thank you for sharing. It’s interesting how PG-rated films and standard TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy and ER showcased medical procedures all of the time. Yet this film garnered an R rating. The MPAA recognized that something significant about this particular medical procedure is far more serious than a gall bladder removal.

    • Thanks Seth. I know it’s so disappointing. And it also shows that deep down they know that it’s depicting murder. If it was just a medical procedure, there’d be no issue. Hugs and love xox

  18. Certainly one of your better articles. Thanks. And thanks for your stand on abortion. The first thing we can commit to do is never again support any candidate for any office anywhere that is not openly and totally prolife. It is impossible for a Christian or Catholic to participate in abortion and, yes, by voting for a candidate that is not prolife, you are participating in the abortion mill just like the doctor will the tools of death.

Next, you need to speak out, often and loudly. Then you can go to abortion centers, not to stop abortions, but to lead others to Christ. Christ will stop the abortions. Then actively support prolife groups and events, such as this film. At all times pray that God will mercifully intervene.

Abortion is THE litmus test of what it takes to be a good Democrat. It is dividing our nation. Satan has a death grip on so many in our nation and when we attempt an event like this, Satan will fight back with everthinh he has. Remember Eph 6:10-20, especially v12 ““For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭ESV‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/59/eph.6.12.esv . Then read 1Thess 5:16-22.

Be blessed as you venture on your journey.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭6:24-26‬ ‭ESV‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/59/num.6.24-26.esv

    • Hi Dennis, thank you so much for your thoughtful response. You’re right – abortion is dividing the country. It is now a nonnegotiable for the dems for sure. Hugs and love xox

    • Hi Mary, thank you so much. Unplanned was so moving. It made me want to take action. I pray that the word gets out about this film. People need to see it and see the truth of what “reproductive rights” really are. So glad you stopped by. Hugs and love xox

  19. The thing that terrifies people of this movie (from what I’ve heard–still need to see it) is that it actually is a work of art which means that it’ll touch people’s hearts. People aren’t persuaded often just by facts but if your heart and your imagination are touched, more often than not, you’ll change your mind.

I’ve also got to add that I disagree with Mr. Rather; it’s not sad that a 15 year old girl can get an abortion but can’t see this movie–it’s outrageous. Too often, people on our side are saddened by things when it’s perfectly all right to have some hot, justified anger towards it.

    • Hi Nathan, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. You’re right – it’s outrageous. Great points. Thanks so much for stopping by. hugs

  20. I heard of this film coming here to Spokane, WA. It is being promoted by an organization called Life Services that helps women through unplanned pregnancy much like the one you mentioned. I agree the word should get out. What a powerful and courageous post you wrote! I wish everyone would realize the hurt that abortion causes. I’ve heard of so many that have aborted their child and regretted it and lived with the guilt for years. I wonder too who those children could have grown up to be and what they could have contributed to this world. Praying for these people is so much better than the way some of us handle it. Thank you for your insight.

    • Thanks so much Dave, I hope you get a chance to see it. Yeah me too. A lot of those prolife pregnancy centers also offer post-abortion counceling and support too. THanks for stopping by. hugs xo

  21. I like that she was able to vocalize her story to a level that few get to be heard at through, film. I dislike, that it removed her from the act. She made $200,000 a year indirectly involved in a single facility. She was responsible for following the state laws that limit abortions. Yet, she fights after? Did you know, even in Melania Trump’s birth country women get 15 months paid leave to care for their newborns? Yet, we can’t have babies for less than $5,000 in hospital bills and no paid leave. Distribution has a lot to do with the success of a movie a 50/50 split with the theater. So. 🤔 Can you have a story that reaches a wider audience that doesn’t misrepresent the intent. Which, assuming its for prolife converts or, mainly just, prolife propaganda? Myself. I respect the Constitution and feel its unfair to be chastised as disrespectful to my religion for thinking for myself. As I know, if we really wanted to end abortions it won’t be through a movie. Or, limitations on abortions it will be through reforms in the wage disparity for young mothers. Healthcare reform that makes having children less costly. Early childhood education money for more facilities and government funded facilities. Not, a tax credit having children you always need money. Now, not later. Lastly, the recognition that fear or anger is not Christian and not the answer to this conversation. What about all those aborted babies? Exactly. What about them? Let’s make it easier to have them instead of what we’re doing now to all mothers.

    • Thanks, Kenzie for sharing your heart on this. I think this movie, though it isn’t going to legally “solve” anything, it is trying to change the court of public opinion on abortion, and at the very least open people’s eyes to see the reality of the “reproductive rights” or “women’s reproductive health” that they’re fighting for.

      • I have a little cousin. She’s, about 7 now. Her mom, couldn’t afford an abortion. She stabbed herself repeatedly with scissors in her stomach. My little cousin, can’t use half her body.

      • Oh my gosh that is heartbreaking. I am so sorry to hear that.

      • I don’t know. Maybe, we see how it affects us. We are arguing for the same thing but do not relate to a kid with a lifelong disability. Or I, not relating to wealthy people that border self righteousness. Pure Flix, the distributor hasn’t really done itself any favors in improving that argument. Only, profited from our discord. It’s media but not a left or right thing. The few pennies from ad revenue for being not right but, interesting.

  22. To be fair, I’ve never heard about this movie till now.
Recently a friend of ours posted on social media about women in Poland fighting for the right to have abortions.
She’s Polish and so she was supporting it. We asked her why she would support the willful killing of a life and she said that we don’t understand what it is like to be a woman in her country.
I agree. I’m not Polish and I’m not a woman. But still life is life.
Then she went on the argument of, suppose the child was born and unwanted, it would be left at an orphanage. She said that it was humane because of the psychological trauma the child would have. Also she claimed what if a woman was raped and became pregnant by that. Should her life change because of such an ordeal? The child would be a constant reminder of that incident.

All valid arguments and questions need addressing I’m sure.

Our stance has always been pro-life. My stance has always been that abortion is murder.. plain and simple. And it is… But when the devil has been so crafty to bring out questions & scenarios where the answers are not plain and simple and where black and white needs to turn to grey, we as pro-life people need to take these into consideration and care. We often don’t have answers for such questions and which is why the Democratic party and left field political systems have taken so much of hold. It is the reason why Death has taken so much of a hold, disguising itself as the most humane solution.
Our beliefs in God & the bible have no merit when the person you’re talking to doesn’t even believe in Him.
When someone asks such questions, we need answers that are so logical, it would be illogical to argue. Does that make sense?..

What happens to unwanted children? Orphanages are often so under-funded and crowded. Most children are often pulled from pillar to post and often abused.
And no one talks about helping the woman who was victim of rape. More often than not, the rape victim is treated like she invited it on herself. Sad, but again true.
Churches often don’t even discuss the topic of sex, reproduction openly. We just say it’s against God’s will and its Murder; and leave it at that. This is a huge let-down on our part. It’s all well and good that we talk about it. But we also not great at offering viable solutions and alternatives. Probably for the most part because our so called solutions all have drawbacks and are often serious need of support. Why?.. Let’s face it, because deep down, even most Christians are so self-focused, we don’t really care.

I seriously hope that this movie does well and becomes popular enough to change things. I think it would be a great idea for churches to have a “movie” day where they show this film. Rally for colleges to show this movie on campus. The more the word gets out about this film, the more things can change.

I live in a country that does not allow abortion because it is a muslim country and they don’t do that. I guess that one thing that Muslims have going for them. They follow their Quran without question.

We in the west really like to “question” things, “understand” things (all in the sake of humanity)… and quite often, get it wrong.

    • Thank you so much for such a thoughtful response. You’ve really given me a lot to think about. I agree – life is life. And those are some great ideas — especially to show this movie on college campuses. Great idea. hugs xo

  23. Thanks for your insight on this issue ABORTION. We in Africa though, do not really have this problem because Abortion is still tagged a “taboo” in virtually all communities (especially here in Nigeria). Girls fear the embarrassment, so opt for safe sex. Nobody wants to be tagged with the scarlet letter “A”.. LOL….. And I think abortion is still illegal in many African Countries. Not to infer it is not done in secret.
I would recommend this movie to as many people as I possibly can here, also. So it doesn’t become an issue here —my people are adopting far too many western culture these days.
Thank you very much, it is always a delight reading your posts.

    • Thank you so much, friend. It’s encouraging to hear that abortion is not an epidemic like it is in the states. Amen. hugs xox

  24. Wow!! I wonder if there is a cinema in Nigeria that would stream it. Anyways, I’ll try and find out. And if i do find one, i hope i enjoy it as much as you did

    • Thanks so much, I pray that they do!! I appreciate you taking the time to read this!! big hugs xo

  25. I do plan on seeing this move! After reading a lot of the comments and watching the trailer I think I Should see it! I just recently started following and so far I think it was a good choice. I hope to see and read many more post.

    • Thanks J, yeah it is definitely worth seeing. THere are definitely a couple difficult scenes to watch, but it is powerful beyond words. THank you for your readership!! 🙂 big hugs xo

  26. Everything that means something is met with so much antagonism. Thank you so much for being bold enough to go and watch the movie then talk about it. One small deed makes a whole lot of difference. You’ve done a BIG deed. It has made a huge impact. Well done!

    • You’re so right about that. Thank you so much for your encouraging words 🙂 big hugs xo

  27. Good morning! Thank you for sharing this. We are so bombarded by all media to their world views. I believe (and I’m working on this myself) that we need more Christians using their gifts and skills to get out the messages of Christianity. Writers who write fiction can write books about pregnant young girls who do not have abortions and we can do so without getting ‘preachy’. A friend of mine’s 11 year old had to read A Raisin in the Sun which includes a young girl having an abortion so ‘her life is not ruined’ by an unwanted pregnancy. His mom had a fit at the school… and rightly so. I glad you have this blog, Cara. No matter what our platform Christians need to get more content out there. Songs, movies, art, blogs, etc. It all matters. If it were not so powerful, the world would not be so successful in putting THEIR content out there to shape society.

    • Thank you so much Melissa! I agree – we need more christian media in the mainstream for sure. Yes! Songs, movies, art, writing, books, podcasts — you’re absolutely right! And we need to support them too! Heartbreaking that your friend’s child had to read that. loss of innocence right there. THanks for your encouragement. big hugs xo

  28. This is not on my to-do list, because if the creators of this movie cared what I think about “unplanned”, then they would register a domain like “unplanned.com” (or something similar). Istead, they registered “unplannedfilm.com” — which is just a meaningless brand name. They don’t care about planned, or unplanned, or anything really — so why should I care?

Do you REALLY care? Then you would register the domain. Or buy it. Sign on the dotted like. But apparently you don’t either. 😉

    #HardTruth

    • Perhaps the domain was not available. I don’t think that their domain name “unplannedfilm” indicates a lack of care or dedication in the slightest. I think it was just a technicality of unplanned already being taken.

      • Nothing is ever taken — in a free market economy, everything has a price (and as I indicated below, they apparently DID pay for it, after all).

Nonetheless, they way they are using it is anti-social. They (apparently) just want to promote their own ideas, not interact with anyone who might think differently. SAD. 🙁

  29. I saw the “Behind the scenes of Unplanned” video as part of the Formed on Demand Lenten series, and I cried several times as they told the story of making the movie. I NEED to see Unplanned, and have to search for a theater in our area that is showing it. Thank you for sharing your Catholic faith with the world, and being the light that we are called to be.

    • I would love to watch the behind the scenes video. Yes – it was a phenomenal movie. I hope you can get to see it! hugs xox

  30. Thanks for sharing. My friend posted about this movie today and then I found myself reading your post. I guess I have to go check it out now. The whole abortion situation is just horrid, monstrous even. Glad to hear this movie is shining light on the issue.

Ps. Next time post a pic of your mascara all over your face haha 😜

    • Thank you so much Izzy, I hope you do check it out!! it was a powerful POWERFUL film. And yes! haha – i did take a photo in the theater with my face all mascara stained, but I realized that…this was going on the internet haha Thanks for reading! big hugs xo

    • It really was a phenomenal film. thank you for supporting postitive media! hugs xo

    • Thank you Carly – yes definitely check it out! ANd bring your friends! People need to see this movie. It is so important. thanks for reading! hugs xo

  31. Bravo, Caralyn! Thanks for always being bold enough to say what needs to be said. The sad thing with a movie like this is that the people who will go to see it are people who, like us, agree with its message. The people who really need to see it won’t go.

    • THank you so much Roy, I really appreciate your support. Yeah, let’s pray that the people who really do need to see it, do. hugs xo

  32. Really great review! I am forwarding your blog to my email list for my blog to help make others more aware that this movie exists. Cannot wait to watch it! Thanks for speaking out <3

    • Thank you so much Hannah! Oh wow! That’s incredible — I so appreciate you passing this along. Let’s pray that people go see it! big hugs to you xox

  33. I love that you talked to the lady at the end. I am grieved by how in NYC there was no one at the theater. This movie will make the rounds and have more effect than we realize, just as you will have more impact than you may ever realize by being willing to talk to that one theater worker!!!! 🙂

    • Thank you Alison. You’re SO RIGHT about that – I wish I would have mentioned that in my post — and that was how NON-MANIPULATIVE it was!! It was just a straight forward presentation of the facts and reality. The truth speaks for itself. hugs xo

  34. OMG — LOL, *EPIC FAIL* on my part 😛

I just typed in unplanned.com — OK, so they registered it, but the redirect to their brand-name website. In a way, this is almost even WORSE! 😯 Since they are robbing the English language of meaning — they are essentially saying that planned doesn’t mean anything besides their brand name.

If they cared about unplanned stuff that happens, then they would not redirect it that way. They would ask people to engage + participate in building community support + involvement when something unplanned happens. Instead of social cohesion, they choose proprietary redirection. 😐

    • Forgive me, but I don’t see how their domain name reflects anything at all about their powerful message and incredible strides this film has taken.

      • The domain name reflects only their social engagement (or lack thereof).

You are right: The movie they made is a completely different matter.

I don’t care much about movies, I mainly care about the real world. 😉

      • Ok thanks. Hopefully you can overlook that and see the bigger picture 🙂

      • This has been bugging me — the “overlook that”. No, I don’t think I can. For someone who values truth, any case of muddy waters is annoying. Maybe it’s a matter of being TOO logically oriented, but I don’t think it’s WRONG. What I DO think is wrong would be to WILLFULLY overlook falsehood, fake information, etc. I would love the opportunity to discuss this at length (and also to explain more how GOOD information plays a crucial role in the world today, and how it will probably only become MORE IMPORTANT)… but I agree that is probably more or less OFF TOPIC here (even though this is a case where BAD / POOR information has reared its ugly head). Would you be open to having me create a page or a website to discuss such stuff? Would you join me in such a discussion, or is it not something you could even just IMAGINE caring about at all? (of course, if you think you *might* care about it, but then it turns out to be boring or a waste of time, then of course we could drop it at any time 😉 ).

THANKS for being who you are + doing what you do!!! 😀 <3

  35. Thanks for sharing this! I actually heard about the movie but can’t remember how/where… Sounds like it’s a powerful movie showing the truth of abortion, which is exactly what our country and world needs. If anyone is looking to do more for the pro-life movement, the Sisters of Life is a religious order based in NY that does a LOT to help women facing crisis pregnancies, women suffering after abortion etc. Here’s their website – https://www.sistersoflife.org

    • Thank you so much Terese, it is SO powerful and SO needed. Yes! The Sisters of Life!! Absolutely – thanks for sharing about them! hugs xox

  36. Love, love, LOVE this post! Thank you for bravely standing up for life! We are a country that believes in the rights of all people, but have fallen for the lie that unborn children are somehow excluded from those rights. It breaks my heart. I’ll right my own post about it soon. Thank you for sharing!

      • Hugs to you as well! I feel as if we are friends when I read your posts, which are so genuine and funny. My husband and I thought about going to Unplanned the other night on a rare date night but he decided he didn’t want to go to a “super emotional” movie where I’d cry the whole way through. I can’t wait to see it though!

      • Aww you’re so sweet to say that! Yeah, i don’t blame you – as far as a date night goes, it’s definitely pretty heavy. ✨💛✨

  37. Wonderful piece! I have not yet seen the film, but I will. I do know Abby Johnson’s story and applaud the film and am so grateful to God for it! You mentioned that you were moved to consider praying at a local abortion clinic in NY. Are you aware of the prayer campaign 40 Days For Life and the connection it has with Abby Johnson? I have participated in Lincoln, NE for years. All I have ever done is pray as a part of that, though in groups I have seen signs. It’s always been peaceful, and most of the time here, I’m praying by myself for that hour of vigil. That’s not to say anything special, because many others do the same and more than I. It is, however to lift up the power of concerted prayer for the LORD to move and remove this scourge from our land. Here’s a quote from Shawn Carney of 40 Days for Life about Abby Johnson just before the release of “Unplanned.”
“40 Days for Life has helped 186 abortion workers leave their job; Abby was the 26th. She managed the Planned Parenthood where 40 Days for Life began; it was right next door to my office where we offered free pregnancy tests and alternatives to abortion.”
Carney says he knew Abby the whole time she worked for Planned Parenthood. He also makes the point that the child which she saw on ultrasound being aborted is the reason “Unplanned” was made. It is the legacy of this child killed in the womb that Abby Johnson has led over 500 other abortion workers out of the business and into the light of life. That story is a story of the LORD turning what was meant for evil into good. And the result of the faithful united in prayer to Him. Thank you for this excellent post and continued blessings to you and yours.

    • THank you so much DT. I really want to find out how to support 40 Days for Life, or volunteer for them. what an important organization. hugs xo

  38. Glad you supported Unplanned with this write up and your ticket! I plan on seeing it and promoting it myself. Vote with your dollars people! These types of stories need to be heard. We are a barbaric people that need accountability. God help us.

    • Thanks so much! Good! I agree – vote with our eyes and our pocketbooks! Hugs and love xox

      • I forgot to say, I read an article that said turn out was worse in NY and L.A. but the film did will in the Midwest and South. So it kind of makes sense that you were alone in the theater.

      • That’s good to hear. Yeah, unfortunately, NY and LA have gone off the deep end— and that’s coming from a New Yorker. Yikes. Hugs and love xox

  39. I went to see it with a friend the other day. I don’t usually go to the theater to watch movies, but I had to make sure I was part of the “numbers” when it came to this film. Thankfully, out theater was relatively filled (which is surprising, being the town we live in.) Lots of tears, lots of truth. It’s well worth watching, for sure. My small group had gone to pray several times in front of our local PP. No yelling, or anything like that. We have sang a few hymns, but its mostly prayer. Every time my kids and I drive by it, one of the kids asks if we can pray for those babies – their mommies, and their daddies. Such wounding. The ripple effect of abortion is truly heart wrenching.

    • Thanks so much – lots of truth indeed. And you’re so right – there’s a ripple effect. Keep praying for those babies. I pray that one day people will see abortion for what it truly is, and that it will end. Hugs and love xox

    • Thanks friend. Yeah pretty disappointing that that was the case. Hugs and love xox

  40. I’m currently reading the book and had NO IDEA there was even a movie being made about it!!! 😮 I’m definitely going to be seeing this one. Thank you for sharing!

  41. Love this post! I have not seen the movie yet. I will. So inspiring that you felt led to reach out to that young woman at the theater. And that you actually stepped out in faith, and spoke to her. May we all have that boldness for Christ.

    • Thanks Meghan, i appreciate your encouraging words. Yeah sometimes the Spirit just moves us to converse. I hope you get a chance to see it. It was life changing. Truly. Hugs and love xox

  42. Thanks for posting! Your last post about abortion inspired me to start volunteering at a crisis pregnancy center. The pro-choice rhetoric is so strong and I’ve been discouraged because there are a lot of pro-choice Jesus followers out there, including people close to me. We can’t give up, though. Jesus is still on the throne!

    • Thanks so much friend. Oh wow that’s so awesome!! Thank you for the work you’re doing for those babies!!! Amen – we can’t give up!! Hugs and love xox

  43. Oh man, I don’t know if I can watch this one. There are two things that make me ugly cry and that is the little ones and animals/pets. But I absolutely LOVE that you got that chance to talk to that young lady after the movie. How awesome. Who knows, maybe you convinced her to watch it and maybe you helped change her life!

    • Thanks so much Paco. I hope she watches it. And brings friends. This movie was life changing for sure. The reality of abortion is ugly and uncomfortable, but we need to face the truth. The world does. Because maybe then things will change. Please, God. Hugs and love xox

  44. I am very pro-choice BUT I think that being able to have dialogue with people about options and acceptance is so so important, so I am going to find where this is playing in my city. I am born and raised Catholic so I know all those reasons for being pro-life, I’m excited to see some new perspectives be brought to the table so we can continue to have discussions! Thank you for sharing this, I’m bummed I haven’t heard about it before now.

    • Thank you so much Jordan for joining the dialogue. I really would recommend this movie. One thing I appreciated was that it was not manipulative in its presentation at all. It was very straightforward with the truth. Would love to hear your thoughts after you see it! Thanks again for stopping by. Hugs and love xox

      • Yes, I will definitely tell you my thoughts! I’m excited to be opened up to what the movie has to offer, especially since I haven’t heard about it before now! Thankfully there’s tons of theaters in my area showing it so probably this weekend you’ll hear back 🖤

  45. the movie UNPLANNED ……………………..
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’ve read and seen many reviews. This IS a movie worth seeing!! Just trying to find out where it is playing !

  46. I love the conversation you had with the girl. It’s amazing the simple opportunities that come our way to engage people in genuine non-judgemental conversation. Thank for being willing to listen to the Holy Spirit and talk to her. We truly may never know the impact (or nonimpact) of such moments, but that’s what makes it beautiful. Each moment matters.

    • Thanks so much Chris! I appreciate that encouragement 🙂 I agree – we never know! Hugs and love xox

  47. I saw the movie with a friend. A Pro-Life group in our area, bought out 3 movie theaters and gave tickets away. Theaters were packed! I had only heard about the movie at church. Not once have I seen, nor heard a media promo for the movie. There is certainly no marketing. So, it was up to us all to go to social media and promote it–which I did.

I agree it did NOT need an R rating. I watched FBI on regular TV, last night, and saw more blood and violence in the 3 or 4 murder scenes, than was depicted in UNPLANNED during the 2 abortion scenes and the recovery room scare. There was no sex, no violence, no nudity, no cussing, no rapes, no murder with a screwdriver to the eye (true scene in FBI last night).

Although the bloody scenes were graphic, they were real. My heart broke, absolutely shattered for the young girls that had to make these decisions and felt there was no other outlet.

And that they felt all alone.

I mini- blogged, that I am sure as parents, we all feel our kids will talk to us about anything. Yet, will they really? Especially about matters as huge as unplanned pregnancy or abortion.

I voice to see this movie with your pre-teen/teen daughter. If you don’t have a daughter, tell a friend who does! Whether you are a believer or not. This movie opens the doors for conversation. HARD conversations about sex, free-will, choices, consequences, abstinence, and life. And they are the hardest conversations to have with our kids. Yet, they don’t have to be. And watching this movie may just get talk to start, about the uncomfortable topic.

Because talking to our kids about sex is awkward.

Yet, as parents we need to talk to them. And let them know….we are always here for them.

After watching the faces of the young girls, completely distraught, unsure, devastated, and alone…..

    my heart broke.

Go see the movie with a young girl.

Thanks BBB for this post. Incredible movie. Still stuck with me.
    xoxo

    • Oh wow that’s incredible! How awesome that they were packed. I know I am so disappointed by the rating too. It makes me wonder if the MPAA has ties to Planned Parenthood or something like that, because it was clearly a manipulative move to prevent people from seeing it. I so agree! Hard but necessary conversations. Thank you SO much for this powerful comment. I so appreciate you taking the time to share your heart and your feelings!! Big big hugs to you, Kari! xox

  48. I had a friend once who worked cleaning in a hospital (not clinic). She resigned when she found a bucket of discarded fetuses, tiny but some still alive, to be thrown away like garbage. It devastated her and knew she couldn’t work there.
People have no clue. They can get all haughty and up in arms about animals, but think nothing of discarding a human life.
Thanks for the heads up on this film. It is showing in three theaters near me.

    • oh my gosh that is so incredibly tragic. oh my gosh how devastating. praying for those souls. hugs xo

  49. I’m a new subscriber, but I think I’m about to become a former subscriber. I did read your entire post, up to the SeatGeek ad, but I had so many issues with the content. As someone that is pro-choice, I am saddened by the attitude of many pro-lifers. I live in the south so many of my former classmates and some friends have participated in 40 Days for Life and chained themselves to a Planned Parenthood gate. Pro-choice is giving women OPTIONS. They can choose for a safe, doctor-supervised abortion, or have birth control and regulate their families for when they can best care for children AND themselves. Overpopulation is a real problem and many women do not have access to medical care that could save their lives and/or prevent pregnancy BEFORE a fetus is conceived with birth control. Choice doesn’t automatically mean abortion, it means the freedom to make your own decisions. I hope people can continue to have dialogues and not just bash either side, I know this is a very triggering topic for many people and hateful rhetoric often gets in the way. Thanks.

  50. I think that we have to take an honest look at the circumstances leading up to a womans choice at that point.

Open and honest conversations about sexuality, STD’s and contraception. Awareness is key here.

Then you have to consider taboo subjects such as Rape. Should a woman be potentially forced to give birth to the offspring of her rapist?

What if the woman is ill and giving birth could potentially harm her and/or the baby? Is the unborn childs life worth more than that of the host?

What if they are unable to support the child? A child born into poverty, born into a life of hunger, with unaffordable health care. Its ok being pro life as long as you maintain that stance once the child is born.

Its a complex topic. With so many variables that there is no clear black and white response. Just a very very grey area, morally speaking.

    • Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this. It is a tough topic and complex indeed. And all the things you brought up are valid valid points. My opinion, for starters, is that this comes back to how God designed our sexuality – we have strayed so far from that, and sadly these are the repercussions: STDs, unwanted pregnancies, using one another, depression, etc. And although contraceptive may seem from the outside to be this incredible gift and necessary measure — it is actually the exact opposite because it allows sex to be a commodity and it allows for the dehumanization of the beautiful gift of life that sex was designed to be. When we separate life from sex, it opens the door to all those horrible things, which we are seeing run rampant. I appreciate you joining the dialogue. Hugs and love xox

      • No disrespect was meant by my comments. I wrote an article myself about sex relationships and one night stands when I was struggling with my MH. Although I have done so in my youth I hate one night stands. Sex is a beautiful thing between two people who genuinely care about each other. But if you take that connection away? I do agree with you that sex is something thats given away far too freely. And the impression is given that IF you ARE NOT having sex there is something wrong with you. Thats a very negative message to portray but it is portrayed in that way by society, the media, etc.

      • I so agree 🙂 no disrespect taken! I appreciated the dialogue, truly! I think it’s so important to have open conversations about these things in a healthy way, so thank you, truly, for taking the time to read and respond. That’s one of the beautiful things about community is that we all bring different life experiences and view points to the table! 🙂

  51. <>

Sounds like a Damascus road experience for Abby. I’m proud of you for listening to the Holy Spirit, and recognizing the theater attendant. You may have been the one who, “Made her day.” One thing we all have in common, with everyone we visit, we were not aborted.

    • Thank you so much Dan. Yeah it was such an incredible story. I hope so 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  52. I’ve read this book when I was in Senior High School, which is about 4 years ago. And I really thanked God for the transformational life of Abby and for those who prayed for her. I hope something gets done about the Planned Parenthood Association. Seriously, to take a life away, is that cool? How would it have been like if their mothers decided to abort them?

    • Thank you for sharing that. I so agree with you. It is devastating. Hugs and love xox

  53. Excellent post! When I saw this blog come to my email inbox, I was excited to read it. I watched the movie last Saturday night at a movie theater here in Utah with a friend. The theater definitely wasn’t sold out, but there were maybe a few dozen people there. I thought this was an EXCELLENT film that I have since recommended to everyone I know!

The acting is well done, the music is great, and they way they tell the story is well done. And, I completely agree with you… The amazing power that prayer was the main thing that I got from it. Like you, I’ve felt motivated to find out where there are any Planned Parenthoods near me to pray outside of them, something I’ve never been inclined to do. God is at work in our nation, always. And this movie hopefully is one way that we can begin to be the change we hope to see in our country!

Another theme of the movie that stuck out to me was the redemption and unconditional love. The people standing outside the clinic were not condemning, but rather sweet and persistent while confident in their stance. Not to mention the love and kindness her family and husband had for her while she moved up the corporate ladder despite the fact they hated the fact she worked for them.

The movie opened my eyes to what PP is really doing. I never knew they depended on abortions to be in business, but it has opened my eyes to the deep sin this is that is a blemish on our country. We scoff and gasp in shock reading about people in other nations selling their kids to be sex slaves, or reading in the Bible about the Israelites or other peoples “sacrificing their kids in the fire to Molech” or some other God thinking, “we would never do that!” And yet, what are we doing here except murdering our children out of allegiance to the god of convenience and self!!!

It’s my prayer that we wake our nation up, that the hearts of those who don’t know Jesus would be stirred, and that the American church would stand in the gap on behalf of the unborn!

Thank you for your post and highlighting such a great movie in the media right now! Blessings to you, sister! 🙂

    • Thank you so much!!! Oh gosh I appreciate you saying that. I’m glad you were able to see it! It was phenomenal. Truly. And yes! Redemption and unconditional love. That is so so true!! I will join you in that prayer. Big hugs to you!! Hugs and love xox

  54. I agree, it was a very good film. Standing in front of an abortion clinic silently praying, has shut the doors on many of them. All of them that I have prayed in front of are now closed. The numbers praying though are still pretty small. Keep up the good work.

    • Thank you so much David! That’s amazing. I actually went and prayed at a PP this afternoon. Definitely s moving experience. Hugs and love xox

  55. I’d love to see the movie if it ever gets to Spain! I’ve heard Abby’s testimony and it’s really powerful and moving.

Thanks for your courage in being a witness to others, you’re so inspiring.

    • THank you so much Paola! I hope the movie gets to Spain! Or even if it is available online – it is SO POWERFUL! big hugs xo

    • Yeah it was really disappointing. You’re right about that! Thanks Nehemiah! Hugs and love xox

  56. Will definely give the film a watch. When you mentioned abortion industry, that made me sad, i never thought of it as a business but it is.

This is a subject that few want to talk about, and if you do alot of women will tear your head off if you say anything negative against it, as its the view of many that its a womens right to do what she wants with her body.

Brave post. I wish i knew the solution, but i think a women spreading awareness is a good first step.

    • Thanks friend. Yeah, it really is a business. Sad but true. I know – there needs to be more honest vulnerable conversations about this incredibly important topic. Hugs and love xox

    • Thanks! Hmmm that’s odd – let me do some digging and see what’s up. Thanks for the heads up. Hugs and love xox

    • So the free trial is in that top box – it says “Start your free trial” in a smaller font. — hope that helps!

  57. Seeing life from your eyes and inside of your head is amazing. How strange that you were the one and only person in the theater. Kudos for sharing with the movie attendant. I have plans for more involvement in anti-abortion work. Have started with posts, will do more. Thank You.

    • Hey again friend!! Gosh, what a kind thing to say — yeah, being in an empty movie theater, at first was a little creepy, and then was like – totally cool. But i wish it would have been brimming with people seeing the film! big hugs xox
