Q & A VIDEO! You asked, I Answered!

Hey friends! I AM SO EXCITED about tonight’s post, because it’s something new, and…in the words of James Charles, “good and fresh!”

I love writing, but I also love talking and interacting with y’all — I mean, hello — reading and answering your comments is a highlight of my day!

So I thought it would be fun to answer some of the questions you asked over on Instagram in a fun little video!

And the REALLY EXCITING part, is that this is going to become a weekly installment over on Patreon!

By joining me, you’ll get access to these videos once a week, AND I’ll answer any questions you send in!

I think this is a highly valuable resource for anyone going through recovery, or who has a loved one battling an eating disorder, to be able to get first-hand information, from someone who’s been there and is on the other side.

No, I’m not a doctor, therapist, or dietician, but I am someone who has been to the depths and back again. And I think that’s really worth something. Much like my book, Bloom, these videos are something I wish I could have had access to when I was going through my disease.

But even if an eating disorder hasn’t touched your life, or a loved one’s life – these videos are a great way to just connect in a fun and more personal way, as the questions aren’t ALL recovery centered!

So comment below if there’s a question you’d like me to answer in next week’s video! And thanks to everyone who sent in questions! If I didn’t get to yours this week, I’ll answer it in an upcoming video!

This week’s questions:
1.) Do you still have bad days mentally dealing with ED, even though you’re recovered?
2) Do I ever miss my eating disorder?
3) Have you fallen from your faith at any time? How or who helped you stay close to God?
4) Advice on having boundaries with guys. — (I love this question!)
5) How did I get to where I could run a half marathon?

Alright, that’s it for tonight! Please let me know in the comments what you thought – if this is something you’d like to see more of – what other topics you’d like covered — I’M ALL EARS!! 🙂

I hope you have an amazing day! And when you read this…I’ll be out on a date!! Eek! WISH ME LUCK!

Comes in other fun colors too!

  1. ON THE USE (ULTRA SENSITIVE EMPATH)

A USE often Plays THE VICTIM!!! because of OverCareTaking then becomes A Really Resentful, Awful, Mean, Cruel PSYCHOPATH!!!; so I AM Suggesting Solitude and Isolation in Order to:

    ♡ Release
    ♡ Relax
    ♡ Recover

    …then Return; Repeat…

    …♡♡♡…

  2. Excellent video Caralyn! I so enjoy the part about dating. So true, go where the good guys (and gals) are. The best way to meet is pure happenstance. ❤️

    • Aw thanks so much John! Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah – happenstance – I like that! Hugs and love xox

    • Thanks so much!! Hope you enjoy the video! Perfect! I’ll answer it next week 🙂 thanks for your question!

  3. “Every day choose to believe that you are precious and worth loving.” That’s something that I’ll bet is not readily grasped by a lot of your readers. The Caralyn we know is outspoken, staunch in her faith, and always ready to be positive. Maybe this is the face we see, because we see you making that choice in every post.

However, I now remember when I first started reading your blog from the beginning. I felt the residual pain in your words despite the positivity of each article. You were anonymous, but the pain from those early days still peeked through. I “saw” you. Maybe it’s because I don’t consider myself to be a nice person and always must choose to be nice and not let my temper come out. I know what it’s like to choose. I went to an orphanage once in my twenties. The kids climbed on me like some playground equipment, and I was glad to play with them. But I never went back. It hurt too much emotionally, because I could feel the pain that drove them to connect to and touch someone. That’s sort of how I felt you, but I also had this motivation to help this time instead of pulling away.

I’d forgotten those early exchanges and trying to be supportive without somehow offending. So hearing you today reminds me – and your readers – that our view of you is…limited. You’re the great and powerful BeautyBeyondBones, but more than that you are Caralyn.

Community. This is why St. Paul urged everyone to meet regularly to talk about the Word, sing hymns and psalms. Christianity is a TEAM activity!

Only date a potential mate, as my wife always told our girls.

I really enjoyed your video and look forward to seeing more at Patreon!! Well Done!!

    • Hi Jeff, gosh thanks for this wonderful response. And thanks for sharing that part of your heart. You’re right – looking pain in the face is a tough exercise. I am so touched by your kind words, Jeff thank you. And you are SO RIGHT about that – the body of Christ is a COMMUNITY!! A TEAM!! And that’s how we are going to make it through. By journeying together and being support and encouragement for one another along the way. Only date a potential mate. – that’s wisdom right there. Tonight’s date – gosh he’s such a great guy, but i don’t know. He’s not from this country, and that presents a lot of difficulties. Hmm — gotta pray about it. Thanks for being a great friend. Much love to you and Julie!! Have a great weekend! Xox

  4. You had a blast doing it? I had a blast watching you. I did not have time to watch, but I watched anyway. Listening to the story of your anorexia and faith made me see the amazing person you are. (For me, I lost my faith many times and struggle to keep it from time to time.) I hope to see more videos.

  5. This was so fun to see you in person. I have five sons and one non-verbal daughter, so forgive me if I get too excited about your blog, lol! You are an amazing young woman. Pretty sure you should move on down to Texas where there are lots of polite, Christian handsome young men. 😉

    • Oh my gosh you’re so sweet!! Thank you so much 🙂 haha yes!! Texas men are great – I dated one in college 🙂 hehe Hugs and love xox

  6. Good luck and thanks for sharing! I saw your question thingy on Instagram, but I’ve been very busy the last two days between work, a trip to a SF Giants game on a weeknight (which gets me home well after midnight, about five hours before my alarm goes off), and seeing Avengers Endgame for a second time, so I didn’t get a chance to think about a good question to ask.

    • Thanks so much 🙂 ohhh that sounds like such a fun night at the game! And the avengers! I’ve never seen those movies but I hear they’re awesome!! Hugs and love xox

      • There have been some running story lines across all 22 Marvel movies, and this one was a fitting wrap-up to that thread. And I only go to events in San Francisco on school nights when it’s a special occasion. The Giants have a few “college night” events during the year where they’ll have a special event ticket where you get a free giveaway item with a Giants logo in your school’s colors, and this year, for the first time, they added my alma mater (UC Davis) to the schools that they do college nights for. (My brother went San Francisco State, and we went to their college night game in 2016.) I was with a friend who also went to UC Davis (but a few years after me), and she had never been to a baseball game before, so that was fun.

Anyway… time for bed… I hope tonight went well… have a great weekend!

  7. Caralyn, you did a great on the video. So open and positive. With every victory, there is always a struggle to overcome. Life and Spirit has definitely come into your formerly dead dry bones! I know you will find the right man for a husband. Enjoy the process! XOXO

    • Aw thank you so much!! You’re so right – there’s struggle but there’s also freedom from the struggle!! Thanks for your kind words 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  8. Just had one of those pif’aney things lol… you and K. Reeves would make a decent couple 😋
I’m thinking you’re what he needs and he maybe what you’re looking for.
    Justa thought.
    God Bless.

      • On a more serious note, I have mentioned previously that I battled anorexia and bulimia. Adolescence was very traumatic, and it left emotional and physical scars that have never healed.

My body, deprived of healthy nutrition, did not develop physically. Being obsessed with body image was exacerbated by having a body that looked like a stick.

What people need to understand is that eating disorders can be manifested in subtle ways like unhealthy cravings, an unbalanced diet, improper nutrition, or addiction to exercise. I was very clever at hiding my disease, but everyone thought I had cancer.

People in recovery often fear that they will get fat. You said something once that I have not forgotten …

“Eating will not make you fat. The weight will go where it needs to go.”

Like my sunken chest, scrawny shoulders, and emaciated ribs.

I often see young women jogging, and their skin is sagging off their bones. It’s not fat — just sagging skin — and I think to myself, “Damn, girl … ditch the jogging shoes and eat a burger.”

      • Thank you David for sharing that. I’m sorry you can personally relate. You’re so right about that – subtle ways. So glad you’re doing well 💛 I appreciate you sharing your heart. Cheering for you in your recovery! Hugs and love xox

  9. Unrelated topic, but I was watching a Candace Owens video with Lila Rose she just posted about staying a virgin until married and it made me think of you. Boy, it’s a great discussion. Ok, now to read your blog.

    • Hi Eric! Oh wow, I will definitely check that out! Sounds really interesting. I love Lila Rose! Hugs and love xox

  10. I’ll add that a great source of help/encouragement can be had for free at any Celebrate Recovery meeting. Only 2 out of 10 attend for drug or alcohol addiction so it’s appropriate for any burden you might be carrying. There’s a locator on the website so there’s probably one near where you are. It’s non-denominational, too, so everyone is welcome. What have you got to lose?

  11. My dear friend,

In the moment or in the time period where our focus is captured on negative things, we are not away of the consequences that we expose our dear and near ones to a state of helplessnes, leaving them suffering in within their own world. But you went through it and you became of aware of it from all perspectives, you are now in the state of thankfulness that God has helped too to come out of this awful situation and understood the help of your near and dear ones as well (it went deep into your heart). So where we have our attention, there we are… This was a great life lesson too to understand and be aware of all what we do and think and speak has an effect, reactions. To be sure that even now we are not lost in the shackles of our mind, is to think twice and even three times before we release a thought or an idea into reality, asking us all the time: do my words or deeds bring harm to any person? are they really free from violence? and why do I do things in such a way I want to do (the motives behind…) – my dear friend this all is a help to make us more and more aware of ourselves, to get to know ourselves…

Thank you for sharing this video with giving answers to such profound questions.

May God bless you and your family, may God bless everyone to overcome suffering and pain and live the way of Consciousness.

    Warm regards
    Didi

    • Gosh this is such a beautiful response. Thank you Didi. You’re so right — that’s something i wish more people would ask themseves: if our words or actions bring harm to another. So well put! I really appreciate you stopping by and sharing your heart. Hugs and love xox
