Dear Kanye West,

What a TIME to be alive, my friends!

In case you haven’t heard, Kanye West — aka: rapper extraordinaire, aka: Yeezus, aka: husband of Kim Kardashian — released an album last week titled, Jesus is King.

Yes, you read that correctly. Kanye West: with former rap hits like, “Gold Digger” and “I Love It,” — and who has famously rapped, “I am a god” — has now put out a gospel album titled, Jesus is King.

Now, if you’re “in the know” on Kanye, you will know that he has recently had a conversion of faith. And for the last better part of a year, he has been putting on “Sunday Services” — aka: church — for his A-List friends. And this album drop is, in essence, all of his modern-gospel style songs that they play at these church services.

Sunday Service

OK – now you’re caught up. So let’s really chat.

The reception of this album has been all over the map. Truly. I mean, one of the most prominent — and controversial — rappers of our time, now all of a sudden does a life-180 and is rapping about Jesus? People have a lot to say.

It’s been called “Fake Christianity.” He’s been accused of Hawking Christianity for profitable gain. One publication called it “a richly produced but largely flawed record about one man’s love of the Lord (and himself).”

And to be honest, before listening to it and really getting up to speed on “everything Kanye” — that was my initial preconceived notion of it as well: There goes Kanye — trying to make the “Church of Kanye” happen. Talk about self-glorification at its finest.

But after listening to the entire album, and watching a live stream of one of his “Sunday Services,” as well as a few interviews — I’ve gotta say — I was completely wrong.

And for that, Kanye: I’m sorry I jumped to conclusions and made a snap judgement.

image: Vibe

You see that’s the thing — people either love or hate the album, based on how they feel about Kanye himself. They’re viewing the album — and his Christian conversion — through their lens of judgement. They think about his politics, his stance on Trump, his Twitter tirades, his past, his former songs and the self-aggrandizement they conveyed. They judge him on who he married, on his overpriced clothing line, his feud with Taylor Swift.

When people see Kanye and hear his music, their opinions are already made up, due to all of that mind clutter getting in the way. Because, face it — he — and that whole family — are polarizing.

But you know what? I love it. I love the songs. I love what he’s doing. Heck, I think I even love Kanye! And here’s why.

We are witnessing, in Kanye West — the process of coming to faith. Converting to a life that follows Christ. And you know what? Conversions are messy. Heck just look at mine — it involved nearly succumbing to a severe case of anorexia.

Conversions are humbling. They are full of shaky footing and stumbles, and highs and lows — and we are witnessing all of it in Kanye.

Some people — myself included, at first — may look at this album, and those Sunday Services, and think that it’s just some thin gospel attempt with bland Christian themes, that is really just a Kanye concert, where Kanye is front and center in this incredibly manufactured cash grab. After all, he’s married to a Kardashian.

But here’s the truth: Kanye is an incredibly gifted musician and artist. Truly. His music — all of it — is next level. The beats, the vibe, the sound. God has blessed that man immensely with musical talent. And how freaking cool that He is using it to glorify God and share the gospel with the world? I mean, he has an enormous platform, and he’s choosing to share about Jesus! Just think about the impact that could have!

Kanye is giving the world goodness through his music. He’s making faith “cool,” and mainstream, and giving it a new face, a new vibe. He’s showing the world — which is overwhelmingly agnostic and athiest, I might add — that believing in God doesn’t have to be some “church lady” existence, a la Dana Carvey on SNL. No — worshiping God can be done in all forms, including lit rap songs.

In an interview with Apple Music, he opened up about his past and his faith, saying that “it’s my job to share what Jesus has done for me.

He opened up about his pornography addiction. About his broken past with sex and money and addiction and how he has surrendered all of that to God. Sounds like a familiar journey — and for that, I’m cheering him on.

We are all on our own individual journeys of faith. And each and every one of us is in a different place on that road. But the awesome thing is that we’re all going the same place, with the same ultimate destination.

And though all of our stories look different – Jesus’ heart of mercy and heart of love and compassion and saving grace is the same for all of us — no matter if we’ve had an eating disorder, a broken history of XYZ, or even a compilation of rap songs about screwing ho’s and other explicit/illegal activities.

Jesus embraces and changes a repentant heart. And that is the best news of all.

SO. Kanye West. I applaud the magnitude of courage it took to step out with your faith. And I’m cheering for the work you’re doing for God. And I think we should all keep Mr. West in our prayers as he puts his voice out there for Jesus, the King!

You can get his album here! My favorite song on the album is “Every Hour”!

“This is what the Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.” Ez 37:5

  1. I rejoice for any person who comes to know Jesus as Savior. The only thing is that the Bible exhorts to not be hasty in the laying on of hands meaning do not be hasty to put people in leadership. If I was a pastor of a celebrity who came to Christ, I would encourage them to just be a regular member for a while and learn b3fore thrusting them into the spotlight. That is more for their welfare spiritually to protect them

  2. Loved your beautiful post Caralyn!! I’m proud of Kanye West’s boldness for Christ! Can’t wait to hear his spiritual influence on all those broken Kardasians girls and family members. 🙏 Amen!!

  3. Great post, Caralyn. True statements and a great overview. I have a friend who once gave me “Noah” because it “wasn’t truly biblical.” But that movie got people talking about the Bible who wouldn’t have otherwise talked about it. It had me think about Noah’s struggles in a new way. Sure, it took Creative reign: it was directed by an atheist and is a movie after all! But it doesn’t mean it can be used in a great way. Something I think so many miss when they argue over Nikki M. (Spelling?) and others being on Tasha Cobbs albums, Snoop Dog dropping a gospel album, and Kanye’s faith is that whether it’s real or for publicity, our job as Christians — as people who say we want to see people truly be in a relationship with Christ — is to pray for them and ask God to develop that relationship they’ve started. It’s sad how much we judge – and we all do. Imagine if we could change our mindset so our first thoughts were not of judgment but of support for others! How different this world would be. I am trying that so I took time to listen to the record and like you I am rooting for him and for his faith to grow roots that are deep and wide, as I do for all of us!

    • Thanks so much Shell!! You’re so absolutely right – it’s not our job to judge but rather to pray for them and offer support in their journey! Because we’re all on it together!! So glad you stopped by! Hugs and love xox

  4. It’s hard to outrun your past. Kanye’s past fruits can be judged as anything but Christian. Is his latest fruit a turn-about? It sure seems to be. We can only hope and pray that it is, both for him and whoever he can touch with it.

I understand the skepticism. The Apostles were certainly wary of Saul right after his conversion. Who could blame them? I’m with you on this one, Caralyn; he’s saying and doing the right things now. As you wrote recently, time is the medicine that cures, tests, and proves someone’s heart…or words to that effect.

So let’s let Kanye have his recovery. Let it be up to him to disappoint us. And if Kim still likes to do racy pictures, well, few things change overnight.

I wrote long ago about how Tommy James had a come-to-Jesus experience, saying that Billy Graham’s pure delivery of the gospel rang in his soul as pure as the best crystal tone when hit with a fork. He wrote the song Crystal Blue Persuasion to describe the saving “ring” of the Holy Spirit and the Gospel. He has said that it took a few years before the rest of the band – The Shondells – finally turned to Jesus also. Kim and Kanye’s friends might also take time, but if his recovery is the real deal, we’ll all see it happen!

Thanks again for your help and encouragement. You’re being a great help!!!!

    • You’re so right Jeff – if we all lived with our pasts as the lens of our present it would be a sad thing. I’m praying for him too! How interesting about Tommy James, thanks for sharing that! Yes! It will be interesting to see where it goes from here!! Thanks for stopping by Jeff! Hope you’re having a great Halloween night! Hugs to you and your girls! Xox

  5. Great post! It reminds me of what Obama said yesterday too that the world is messy and good people have made mistakes. It’s so easy to sit back on social media and comb through people’s pasts, pointing out errors and being judgmental. Best to work on improving ourselves! 💖💖💖

    • Thank you Paula! You’re so right – we’re not called to judge but walk along side one another on the journey we’re all on together! Hugs and love xox

  6. If you read the Holy Word you can’t help but notice God uses broken people all through history to deliver His message of hope, forgiveness and redemption. He doesn’t use the worldly wise or royalty. He uses sinners like me, you and Kanye. All glory to God!

    • You’re so right – he equips the called!! Amen! Thanks for stopping by. Hugs and love xox

  7. Great post , sister. I’ve never listened to much of his music but it’s wonderful to hear someone speaking and singing of how Jesus Christ is changing their life. Hopefully God will continue to be glorified in his life, and with him being so well known people will ask questions about Who Jesus Is. It’s cool that you have encouraged and reminded people to pray for him – it can be easy to forget that ‘celebrities’ are in just as much need of prayer and support as everyone else. All Praise and Glory to God Most High. May God bless, strengthen and encourage you too as you allow Christ’s Love and Light to shine through your life. x

    • Thank you so much!! Yes! It’s so awesome to hear him talk about his walk! Hugs and love xox

  8. The “process” I love this, and if we’d all be truly honest, it’s taken us a longggggg time for the residue of our past to be chipped away, but then if we’re still honest, there will always be a hint of that old man, old woman, old boy, and old girl, still trying to rule. BUT GOD, Who is and always will be rich in mercy, helps us along the way…

Great Post Sis!! Love you for this and for being transparent! Now let’s see how many comment on this message!! LOL!!

The difference between Kanye and most of us is the fact that he lives life on a HUGE PLATFORM, which makes every part of His life visible, much like the part of ours that remains hidden ONLY because we don’t have a platform such as his..

Blessings again Sis for following the unction and lead of the Lord to write this POWERFUL message!!

  9. Caralyn, you are a terrific eye opener for many people, to events in all areas of life. Thank you. I have heard of, and known of Kanye West, but have never listened to any of his music.
I agree, if the majority of us who called upon Christ to be our Saviour, had to continually answer about our past, we would never grow, but Christ has taken care of all that on Calvary. There does need, I believe, to be a period of time where the repentance and life change will be witnessed by someone who is a mature Christ follower, and the accountability needs to be there, but not to the entire world to expect Q & A personal time with Kanye, or any other new Christ follower. One or two Pastor / Elders for mentoring would be a great help though.

As far as those who say he is doing this for publicity and money grab, that happened in the days of the Apostles preaching after the ascension of Christ, and the Damascus Road experience of Paul also.

Actually, through Apostle Paul, Holy Spirit wrote:

    Philippians 1:18
18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice.

So, all Christ followers should be rejoicing, some people, following Kanye West, may hear and understand the Gospel of Christ for the first time, and accept Christ as Saviour.
To that, I would only say….HALLELUJAH!!!

God Bless You Caralyn, as you faithfully serve our LORD and KING.
    Luv, 😀🌹❤️😘

    • Oh my gosh what a kind thing to say! Thank you George! You’re right – now is the time to rejoice for him and pray for him. Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  10. I have never been a Kanye fan, I’m still not. However, as a Christian I am called to love him and rejoice when anyone receives Jesus as their Savior! My place isn’t to judge, it’s to rejoice so I’m rejoicing with the angels that another lost soul has given his life to Christ! Will he behave as he should? I don’t know but I don’t know if I do it right either at all times. Trust that God has his handA all over this and continue to pray for him to Have a teachable spirit so he is humbled by what he learns. I saw some interviews and I believe in my heart that he gave his heart to Jesus and I say HALLELUJAH! Thanks for a great blog

    • Yes! That’s so true – we are called to love and pray for him – both of which I will be doing! Thanks for stopping by!! You’re so Right – trust is the foundation!! Hugs and love xox

  11. Praise the Holy Spirit for anyone He causes to believe. Only God knows a heart. No one can be 100 % sure someone IS saved, not be 100 % sure that someone is NOT. We called to pray for and love one another.
I pray His profession is genuine for His sake, and because the Lord God who allowed His Son to die on cross for Kanye loves Him.
Praying you are well today, Caralyn. Hugs to your mom and pop! God loves y’all! <3

  12. Nice post! My road was messy as well, in fact I bet all of ours were to varying degrees. I’m getting to the point where I’m pretty thankful for “the valley.” Judging isn’t our job, our job is to welcome another soul saved into His Kingdom. Great perspective here. Fav one I’ve seen of yours yet, for what that’s worth! -Dustin

    • Thank you so much! Amen for messy roads. God loves all! Thanks Dustin for stopping by. Hugs and love xox

  14. You got kind of more intellectual approaches to something in the music industry here, which turned out well. You’re showing appreciation in something like a music review setting. Your feelings, not too surprisingly, are interesting as usual, and the comments to the conversation you got in return are a stimulating debate–great on your readers.

It surprised me what was turning on with this album release, although I’m pretty much a nerd, and I wondered what you might have to say about it. An interview the rapper did explaining himself gave me some understanding, a little, as to what is going on.

Like you pointed out, Kanye gave his position on some of the lyrics he wrote on other albums of his, which is what I thought of because, as you know, those elements of rap are characteristically dicey. I didn’t know everything that you said here, or what your readers said in response, but I appreciate reading what people are taking into consideration. Good on you, writing again, on matters dear to you.

    • Oh my gosh thank you Odell! Yeah it’s a tricky situation but I just pray for his heart and the movement that is taking place within it. Hugs and love xox

  15. Something I’ve long prayed for is seeing celebrities come to Christ. It’s often felt like an odd mission. Some people look at me weird when discussing the latest celebrity scandal causes me to want to pray for them instead of just putting them down. The fact is, they’re a group a lot of Christians neglect to pray for. I fear our ( often) self-righteous anger at the sin on display in that area of society consumes us to the point we dismiss the compassion Jesus asks us to have for the lost. After all, he died for rappers and reality stars, too. Only time will tell, but I pray we will continue to see the fruit in Kanye’s life and that he can be a means to draw many to a saving faith in Christ. Thanks for highlighting this. It’s a sign of hope.

  16. I admit, I’m skeptical… But I don’t have to believe Kanye — whether or not it’s “real” is between him and God.

    • You’re right – it’s hard not to be skeptical. But I will pray for his heart! Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  17. I was so encouraged by listening to Kanye’s new album, and by your post and some other articles I’ve read. It is so obvious that God is moving in his life somehow, and I would love nothing more than to see a full redemptive story in Kanye’s life. The Bible is full of radical transformations. God is able to do abundantly more than we can ask or imagine, and when we doubt that He is loving and mighty enough to change even a heart and a life like Kanye’s, we not only mitigate the work of the Holy Spirit, we reveal our hardness of hard and unbelief as well. Kanye’s album is crushing the charts right now! Imagine all the people who are voluntarily listening to praise music because of what God is doing in Ye’s life, the gospel that is pouring into their hearts! The Lord’s ways are higher than ours, and even if this is not a lasting conversion (which I really want to believe it is), it was worth it for so many to hear the Gospel. #prayforkanye

    • Thanks so much! I was so encouraged to! You’re so right – it’s worth it. Gotta pray for him! Hugs and love xox

  18. He went after abortion, too. That’s a point in the sincerity column for me; you don’t take that stance in today’s climate if you’re just looking for popularity.

  19. So Glad! I was going to be skeptical of, and most likely do a 180 on you if you had felt differently about the album’s importance. The album is huge, and will most likely be historically significant as well.
As Christians we should be indebted to a man, and any celebrity to use their errors for His Glory. The record speaks to so many people, and I only have sorrow for alleged Christians who would attempt to harm further a man who gave his idols and sin to Christ, for all the world to see, while managing Bipolar Disorder at the same time! Glory to God!

    • I hope it has incredible reach and changes the hearts of many! That’s my prayer. And also my prayer is for Kanye!! Let’s cheer him on!! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your heart! Hugs and love xox

  20. God calls sinners to himself. We all sin and miss the mark. People are too quick to judge others, when they have their own sins of pride and judgment to deal with. I do not know the man but it takes courage to stand for Jesus in public. Praise God! Hugs and love, XOXO

    • You’re so right about that – we all are in that same boat. And it’s not our place to judge, but rather walk along side our brothers and sisters and support them on their journey as well! Hugs and love xox

  21. Whenever a celebrity turns to faith, it is so easy for the rest of world to judge. Like you said Caralyn, we assume it is for monetary gain or some kind of PR stunt. I recall R-Kelly came out with the song “Storm is over”, but then his next releases weren’t so visually decent. But that’s a topic for another time.

Whenever we see celebrities turn to God and say how bad their life was, you often hear snickering, sarcastic comments from Christians saying, “Yeah right!.. You were suffering; especially with all those millions.”

We’re talking about us, Christians. We are so keen to act like the elder brother from the prodigal son story in the Bible and in doing so, we actually ignore a deep rooted green-eyed monster. Yes… I’m talking about Jealousy.
Lets face it. Look at the comments the elder brother makes in the story. Those are comments of jealousy.
How many times have you looked at the celebrity lives or even the just the popular / cool kids or even successful friends that you know and you wish that you could enjoy your life the way they do; instead of having to do the “right thing” all the time.
Here in the story, you see the fact that the elder brother always did the right thing and claims that the reward was minuscule compared to what the father was doing to celebrate the return of the son that wished his father was dead (according to middle eastern culture).

It seemed that the younger son got the better of the deal. He enjoyed the world, its life, etc and came home to a joyous celebration.

We look at celebrities the same way. They have all the success in the world, they look amazing, some even didn’t have to work and for the most part, have enjoyed life and now after all of that, they get to come home to a loving God and enjoy eternity.
Whilst us regular mortals, work hard, earning just enough to survive, often have our stressful careers cause health issues, we always do the right thing, worship God and still end up in troublesome situations and often we wonder, where is our reward.

Having been the “elder brother” for so long in my life, I have struggled with the story of the prodigal son. I found it completely unfair. But I had to see something beyond. I may have not enjoyed my life as much right now, but I believe that my time will come and God will allow me to enjoy it. And the difference is, when at that time I do, I won’t suddenly find myself in the end wishing that I could have some pig food.

The point here is the same as what the father told the elder brother… “we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”
Instead of ridiculing Kanye for his turn to faith, we should be embracing him as our long lost brother who has finally returned home.

    • You’re so right – we are all so quick to judge. But that’s not what we’re called to do. But rather walk alongside our brothers and sisters on their journey. Yeah celebrities get the most judgement of all. Thanks for this thoughtful response and for sharing your story. The p son is definitely a lot to embrace for sure. Glad you stopped by. Hugs and love xox

  22. so well said. I would have never given this album a listen because of my preconceived notions of Kanye. But based on your glowing review, I now look forward to listening to it.

    • Thanks so much Jim! Yes! it is definitely something to give a listen to! i think it’s pretty awesome! different but awesome! hugs xo

  23. My philosophy…however the almighty’s name is praised, it’s all good. You can sense the anointing in his songs. My fav is Alleluia! Thanks for sharing. Let’s keep Kanye in prayer. 🙏🏽

    • I so agree Shelly! It’s all good! I love that song too! Absolutely will be joining you in prayer for him. Thanks so much for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  24. Good morning Caralyn…(hope I spelled that correctly)…This is a very thoughtful post. And a post that really needed to be put into words,. I think a lot of us have all been wondering about the “marketing”. It is a beautiful thing to see God put His hand on those who have been chosen to speak of Him. And it so encouraging to see this movement in young people. Both you and Kanye have a boldness that God can use for many to hear…and He has given you an audience. I am thankful to be able share your journey this way. I will be sharing this one to support you. Prayers….Donna (Hey, did I see you on a boot commercial?)

    • Thanks Donna! Yes you spelled it correctly! I appreciate your kind words and for sharing in the journey! You’re right – Kanye is feeling moved to share his faith and so we need to support him! Hmm not that I know of with the boots! Haha Hugs and love xox

  25. Ever since I heard about Kanye becoming a Christian and putting out this album I have been pleasantly surprised. Because no matter how you feel about it, or whether or not it’s for real, people are talking about it. And anytime we can get people talking about God in a positive or curious light, then it’s always a potential for someone, somewhere to have an experience with God. So I’m definitely praying for Kanye and his family and anyone else he might influence to take a closer look at getting know God. On another note, Avril Lavigne released a song last year (I think) called Head Above Water that talks about experiencing God. I’m not so sure about the rest of the album since I haven’t bought it…yet 🙂 Either way, I like the song and think that it’s a definite move in the right direction and am hoping and praying to see more “celebrities” actually talk about things that matter and use their influence for good instead of creating more controversy and telling us what we should think. God Bless!

    • Thanks for this thoughtful response! You’re right! It got people talking and how awesome is that!! Ill join you in those prayers for Kanye! I haven’t hear Avril’s but I’ll look it up! Hugs and love xox

  26. Caralyn, one of the hardest things for me to do when I encounter people is to see them as He does. their flaws are covered in His blood and the Father only see His perfect creation.

    • you’re so right – our flaws are covered in His blood, and what a comforting thought that is! Thanks Jeff for stopping by! hugs xo

  27. You nailed it dear. Music is to be listened with an open mind. Music is art. Its a gift from God. And its an expression of our feeling and emotions. I always say this. Let the singer be invisible and let the music be visible. Drown in the lyrics, the melody, the beat and the expression. My best song on the album is FOLLOW GOD. Jesus is king album is super dope 😍

    • THanks Chika! you’re so spot on – music really is a gift from God. Follow God is one of my favorites too! SO GOOD!! I agree — super dope! glad you think so too! hope you have an awesome weekend! hugs xox

  28. I loved your post. I told my mom about Kanye’s conversion and how genuine he seemed in a Sunday Service I watched not long ago. It’s amazing what Christ will do with a wiling heart. I empathize with Kanye in that he has endured a lot in his life (loss of his mother, illness, even being a celebrity can take its toll after so long). Through it all he sought God and is bringing awareness to the King. You also bring awareness to the King on your website which is the best thing servants of Christ can do.

    Good job!

    • Aw thanks so much! It really is amazing what He can do with a willing heart. I love that. Yeah – he’s been through a lot. Hugs and love xox

  29. Great post! Every person is redeemable when they surrender in faith to Jesus Christ. We are all born as flawed humans in need of redemption in Christ. We all have sinned and Jesus came looking for the sinners to give them life. I was not a Kanye fan but I think I am becoming one. Blessings to you! I appreciate your Christian stand and voice!

    • Thanks so much Harry! You’re so right about that! We’re all redeemable! Hugs and love xox

  30. You are spot on about not judging a changed life. But. And I always hate to start with that word. But, more than a great album about Jesus and more than his self made Kanye church, we will need to watch the fruit of his life, and the new character of the man we should see. Because I think we would both agree that knowing Jesus and having a relationship with Him should change every aspect of your life. We should encourage Kanye and support him in this new life. This shouldn’t be about Kanye, but about what Jesus has done to save him and change him. Kanye will have to learn to not be the center of attention, although we all know that he will because of who he is in his public life. I pray that this is not anything the nay-sayers are throwing out there, but a life truly changed by the grace and mercy of the one true living God!
Thank you for writing this blog. It was a great perspective and filled with honesty. I loved it!

    • Thank you so much Dana!! You’re right – we should encourage him and support and pray for him! Very true – Jesus needs to be front and center 🙂 glad you stopped by! Hugs and love xox

  31. Good afternoon. Longest time. been really busy with school stuff.
I was really surprised when I heard of his conversion but this shows that Jesus is really King and He keeps doing wonders. No one is past redemption. Glory be to God

    • Thanks so much! Amen to that! No one is past redemption. What a powerful truth! Hugs and love xox

  32. I love this! And I admit, I was skeptical about it all at first. But I’ve been watching interviews he’s been giving (that thing on the plane with James Corden is priceless), and I have never seen Kanye West so humble before. In years past, I didn’t think he was capable of humility. It’s hard to look at where he is now and where he’s come from and not see the transformative power of Christ in his life. It’s always exciting, I think, to watch someone go through that journey when it’s someone you know personally. To see it happening to someone who has the potential to influence millions around the world? Awesome.

    • Thanks so much!! Yeah – it really exciting to see the transformation taking place. Gotta keep him in our prayers. Hugs and love xox

  33. I was under the impression Kanye always talked about God. I dont think this is new. He’s just 100% focused on God now. Which is always a good thing. I can’t see myself listening to his gospel album or viewing his Sunday service. I checked out from him along time ago. I never cared that he married Kim Kardashian. I try not to judge people on stuff like that. He’s just not my cup or tea now. I’m happy he’s seen the light but I will get my spiritual guidance from other sources. Good post though

    • Thanks Lane! Yeah – He’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I’m happy for his conversion of heart! Glad you stopped by! Hugs and love xox

  34. Love this perspective. Who knows what his intentions are. But if it changes one life, or in his case many lives, for the better, then maybe he is a tool for God being properly utilized.

  35. I listened to the album in its entirety yesterday and one of the lyrics hit me the most about how Christians will judge him the most harshly.

I have no idea if Kanye’s faith is authentic or if he’s using it for profitable gain. I do know that the Lord doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called.

Here’s the thing: Kanye is rising from a terrible past. What makes him any different from someone who has struggled with drugs or pornography or infidelity or anger or or or…

The Lord is so good to take someone with such an amazing platform and use that to glorify HIS purpose. And shame on us as Christians for acting like the Jews in Jesus’ day with our rules and regulations and judging others without simply lifting them up and praying for them. Jesus flipped tables for that kind of stuff. He will deal harshly with our judgment, too.

Whatever is happening with Kanye, as Christians, we should surround him with prayer. Whatever is happening, God is going to use this. And He will use OUR response as well to teach others. Whether we respond as we are called to – or if we respond with our rules and our Bibles and judge whether his faith is authentic or not.

God Bless you, Kanye. The road ahead is long and you will be persecuted. But, to you I say, Welcome Home, brother.

    • Thanks Friend for sharing your heart on this. You’re right He equips the called! Amen – surround him with prayer! Hugs and love xox

  36. Yes! This was some of the greatest news recently. My son downloaded his album and I’m so thankful that my teenager has this real life opportunity seeing what Jesus can do and how He can and will change lives no matter ‘how far gone’ they seem. Thank you for this beautiful post.

  37. I believe Kanye’s conversion is legitimate. I see a man who has been radically saved by Jesus Christ. I have listened to the the album Jesus Is King and the lyrics are powerful! I have seen many of his interviews lately and his excitement for Christ and the freedom he has now found pours out of him. People who would never open a Bible or listen to Gospel music are singing along and praising God all because of this guy. I’m praying for him because his reach is huge and God can do awesome things through him.

    • I do too! Yes! The lyrics are so powerful. I will join you in that prayer! Thanks Meghan for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  38. Another excellent piece of writing with thorough perspective. Well done! It’s always enlightening to read your work. This piece, in particular, showcases a person’s personal choice to be free from progressive societal norms that expect him to be someone else, someone powerless; a victim. Really impressed with his transformation. Again, great job on this! ❤️🇺🇸🤓

    • Thank you so much Tom! Im so glad this resonated with you 🙂 Amen! I’m really impressed with his transformation too! hugs xo

  39. Even I was sceptical about this at first as I had already made up my mind that this was just another publicity stunt but after listening to him speak clearly about Jesus and not make some vague allusions about a mystical force, I thought he sounded genuine and even his body language did not have that air of arrogance that has become his trademark. I sincerely hope his conversion is real and let us pray for him, instead of judging him and one another as we are all flawed beings and we all need to be sanctified daily to become more like Christ.

    • Thanks Teri for sharing your thoughts on this. Yes! Let’s pray for him. It’s so easy to judge, but yes! let’s walk along side him instead!! Hugs and love xox

  40. I love your words about this topic! It’s true that when you hear the name Kanye, you think of narcissism and an egomaniac. But God uses all kinds of people and how cool that Kanye is using his platform to say that Jesus is King. Whoa! That is awesome. I am going to check out his songs.
And you keep doing what your’e doing cause it encourages and inspires! Your outspokeness for faith and God is bold.

    • Thanks so much!! Oh gosh you’re kind to say that. You’re right – it really is awesome! Hugs and love xox

    • Yes! He really is a great musician and a fascinating character! Glad you stopped by! Hugs and love xox

  41. You are so spot on. Thanks for having the courage to talk about this. I think you are exactly right about how we all view through a “lens of judgement”. It seems like we tend to look at people not through God’s eyes but our own. That’s exactly what Jesus ran into and why so many missed what God was doing. BUT, in this case with Kanye, if we can see that God is actually moving and changing him, how much then can we be encouraged to watch this play out. What if the next revival comes through celebrities? My wife and I had that conversation recently. If we watch through our own religious, judgmental lens, we will miss it and maybe even become just like the Pharisees and who opposed what God was doing.

    • Thanks so much Dan! I’m so glad this resonated with you 🙂 i agree – we’ve gotta pray for him as he continues on his journey 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  42. I am glad you wrote this. People are so quick to judge, label and point a finger at the “hypocrite,” and that includes people of faith…. I am pretty sure Jesus said go out and make fishers of men – there was no label there – just a person. Go and share Jesus love. We all fall short – and God is at the business of restoration. I have never been a fan of Kanye West – I didnt dislike or like. Totally neutral. However, he is speaking his heart, his soul and his mind. If that doesn’t line up with other’s expectations of him, that’s not his problem. We are called to be prepared to answer for the reason for our hope. He wants to share HIS hope with others. It’s an inspiration to watch his journey toward the TRUTH. His boldness should be a lesson for all of us – he has everything “worldly” to lose, but oh, the treasure in heaven he is building….

    • Thanks so much! You’re right – make fishers of men. As far as I’m concerned, Kanye is doing that! Hugs and love xox

  43. I think he’s a neighbour to my daughter in Bratenahl OH, so this blog is of interest to me. Not sure what his motive was in recording this music but really don’t have an interest in finding out either. What we say or what we sing is not as powerful as the consistent way we act privately and in public. If what we do or say is uplifting then that will have more effect positively than a commercially sold song. 🙂

    • Interesting! There’s a lot of truth in that Ian, character is seen behind closed doors. Hugs and love xox

  44. Another very nice and thought provoking post. As for Kanye hopefully he has true faith to remain faithful to his profession. Way too many celebrities have faith of short duration and return to the world after a few short years. Pray for his faith to stand the test of time. Not to mention not doing it for commercial gain such as selling records and selling concert tickets. I am glad that I am not in his shoes. He is open to HUGE temptations that ordinary people do not have to face. He has moral issues to deal with that are no where close to being ordinary. He needs our prayers. What disciple in the Bible followed Jesus and then immediately started to sell records and concert tickets and made millions of dollars by it? I will wait to see if Kanye and his faith stand the test of time before truly believing him.

    • Thanks so much Noel. How interesting! I didn’t know he expanded to Jamaica. Wow! Hugs and love xox

  45. Kanye, didn’t just find faith. Lol. Make it sound like he invented Jesus. His mom was a Baptist convert. This, is a hard one. If, he didn’t have a brand would we be talking about his relationship with God? If, he wasn’t married to a Kardashian would his faith or newest stunt matter? At $9.50 for Kanye’s album that reads, Jesus is King. I’d do better to feed some homeless for a full $10. To throw a donation in at the church food bank. To visit, the other church that takes in addicts. He’s not the first to mix religion with Capitalism. How much of Kanye West’s new album is helping anyone but himsef? Any proceeds going to that Baptist church Donde West was converted at? Maybe another Chicago church?

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. Lots of food for thought here. I think a person’s genuine conversion to faith and turning from old ways is worth celebrating, no matter who the person is. Hugs and love xox

  46. I love how Holy Spirit is a working. If only one nay-sayer decides to follow Christ because of Kayne’s new album then hallelujah!!

I believe it is true for many believers when we say yes, we have people from our life who ‘knew us when’ and are probably scratching their heads asking how did this happen? It’s true in my life and all praise, honor and glory go to Jesus.

Many times ‘those years’ were years of preparation for such a time as this!

    Thanks for sharing Caralyn. xoxo🥰

    • Thank you so much Terese! Yes! Preparation years! We’ve all got em!! So glad you stopped by! Hugs and love xox

  47. I almost jumped into conclusions after reading the post’s title… – but since I’ve read quite a few by you, I let my heart win on this, and was worthy… 😉

What came to my mind on an on reading your post is:

ONLY THOSE HATE JESUS WHO NEVER REALLY MET HIM.

That’s true for His earthly time and even today.

And Jesus is alive in the people who speak love through their actions.

    Have a Blessed Night!

  48. Think about Zacchaeus the tax collector (did I spell that correctly). He came to Christ after a life time of cheating and theft. Made his fortune through abusing his position. Then came to Christ. He redeemed himself in Christs eyes going so far as selling half of his belongings and paying back four times that he had stolen. The path of redemption can be a painful humiliating experience. Mine came through nearly dying. A suicide attempt that came close to succeeding. I felt lost and alone. But when I came round in that hospital bed I was a changed man. The darkness in my very soul had overwhelmed me up unto that point.

    • If Kanye has truly changed as a person then so be it. Im glad for him. We all need that light in our lives. But lets see where this leads. As stated above how much of the proceeds from this are going to a good cause? Or is it solely lining his pockets. He has done alit of hurtful thinga in his past but everybody deserves a chance of forgiveness surely?

    • Yes!! You’re so right about that! And it was actually the gospel reading on Sunday! And thank you for sharing your powerful story. God is so good and I’m so glad you came through 💛 Hugs and love xox

  49. Christians forget that we are one big family dispersed round the globe. We are love. We have been commanded by Christ himself and his apostle Paul not to judge, it’s not for us to do… I am still learning to yeild to this command.

    • You are so right about that! one giant family, and what an encouraging thought that is! thanks so much for stopping by! big hugs xox

    • thank you so much!! yes! I am too – it will be fascinating to see the direction he takes! praying for him! hugs to you xo

  50. It is very common for a bipolar person to get obsessive about God. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is all just a manic episode. He will change again and soon.

    • I hope that’s not the case. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. Hugs and love xox

  51. Thanks for your contribution to this conversation. Trust me, it’s everywhere. As I’ve been leading my bible study group through processing what it means for God to save someone like Kanye, it has been helpful for them to see how much grace was shown that God would save someone like them. I was pumped when I opened spotify yesterday and saw JESUS IS KING plastered across the top. All my theological study couldn’t have accomplished that. The church should be invigorated by Kanye’s zeal, myself included.

    • Thanks Stephen, I appreciate you taking the time to read and respond. I so agree! We should be lining the streets, cheering him on!!! Hugs and love xox

  52. Well said, Caralyn! I haven’t heard his album, only watched one interview. My thought after watching the interview was, Kayne, now that you’re ‘out’ with this new faith, this new love … now Satan will be at your door trying to separate you from your God … we need to pray over hime that truly nothing be able to separate him from the love of God (Romans 8:38). May God give him strength and comfort.
    Carole

    • Thank you so much Carole! I know – now he’s got to be extra diligent to fight off the enemy! Hugs and love xox

  53. You, Kayne, and I will all get to Heaven on the One Way Track Conducted by Jesus Christ paid by his blood. Welcome to every guest on that train! Whosoever Will! Amen and amen.

    • Yes that One Way Track! and praise God for that! thanks so much for stopping by Oneta! hugs xox

  54. Great post. It was very insightful. I have Catholic and Christian friends myself who are conflicted on Kanye’s new album. As someone who was a former fan of Kanye, I don’t agree with everything that he’s been saying in the media. With that being said, I’m glad that he’s bringing Christianity to the forefront. But it still seems like he’s glorifying fame, power, and money. I just hope and pray that his music will encourage both his current and new fans alike to form a deeper relationship with the Lord.

    • thank you so much Chanel! I’m so glad this resonated with you! I agree — I’m glad he’s bringing Christ to the forefront too! I hope his heart is genuine. And i will join you in that prayer! hugs xo

    • Hate to throw wet blankets on people but you said it right to start, that is exactly what he is doing and if he weren’t this wouldn’t be how to go about it at all. The numbers of young people he affected negatively over the years causing such great harm requires a much different approach than this to atone and save souls for Jesus Christ. Quite the opposite of what he is doing. Mimicry of the Word of the Lord is quite vile and a true blasphemy.

  55. Caralyn,
Sorry I don’t buy it, too conspicuous and self-serving, reminds me way too much of what the Jewish Pharisees did in old times! In his case and many others like him to be genuine he would be more quiet and behind the scenes making a conversion fully to Jesus Christ while say, opening clinics for the destitute and giving away much of the ill-gotten gains and fortune he and the Kardashians have bilked from the public with all of their self-aggrandizement and malarkey reality show-off nonsense! If you could present to them that if they mean what they are attesting to now must be proven by total humility with atonement and giving up most of their fortune do you mean to tell me that any one of them would do it? Not going to happen because they have been bitten by the serpent of this world and self-glory, pleasure and worshiping the things of this world including one’s self, which is a ticket to perdition! You miss the boat here not seeing the forest for the trees! Atonement for one’s past bad behavior and the overwhelming negative effect this man has had on so many youth is sin incarnate to the max! They are phonies and I’m not the judge but Jesus certainly pointed out that we are all supposed to carry our crosses and give up the things of this world; but this guy is just about ME, His Material Wealth, Fame and Fortune! I think most of you who buy into this are into all the hype and decadence with him in his new venture of creating a new attention grabbing commotion! You could prove what I say is all wrong if you get him to drop the act and all of the materialism while dedicating his life to helping the destitute drug addicts and criminals in prison who were into gangster rap lives heading to perdition full of lust and lies making women booty call! This is just more sensationalism and exploitation! I don’t expect many to see as I do because I know first-hand how wicked the material system is and what it did to me via the diabolical use of our politics and men’s ego’s in positions of authority lusting for more power and dominance! Not much unlike what occurred in the Old Roman Empire to “Real Christians!”
The paradigm hasn’t changed and the evil one’s methods are intact.
Matthew 13:13 “This is why I speak to them in parables..”

God Bless and I do like my mother in prayer, for a crooked out of control world.
    Lawrence

    • I left out by accident the most important piece for the sake of saving anyone reading the trouble of looking up the Scripture.
Matthew 13:13 “This is why I speak to them in parables..”
“Though your ears are open, you hear nothing.”. Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear. “Son of man, you are living in a rebellious house. They have eyes to see but do not see, and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious house.”

    • Thanks Lawrence for sharing your thoughts on this. I hope that he is sincere. Hugs and love xox

      • Hi Caralyn, of course I agree with that sentiment in the final analysis; after all, “God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven!” But, believe me when I tell you you’re talking to a former happy go lucky eternal optimist who was always in the ready to offer my optimism and assistance to my many siblings growing up and on to adulthood with just about anyone I could have such occasion to help; but in the end a guy who got the shaft big-time by nefarious dark forces that roam the world today via persons who have no problem with facilitating them and being minions of such destructive forces; in my case one of them was even a Catholic doctor and minister, and so I grew weary of the rhetoric and quite frankly all the BS being propagated in the massive information highway attention seeking craze; I remember a time when less was more and just like film-acting as you are well aware very subtle or even unobtrusive expression of oneself can go a long way in being authentic and visceral or real to the outside observer.
I’ll add here now just in case someone missed it, that I never liked rap music or the sorts of characters that gravitated to it or blurted it out. Too much attitude and vain materialistic jive-ass non-sense, but the vulgarity and cheap base mind-set or even gangster agenda is what turned me off mostly about it I do believe. And, this is not to say that some of the past or current pop and rock music isn’t guilty of perpetuating the same general attitude or cheapening and devaluing of humanity; so no rapper is going to impress me with his or her spiel about doing it for God. We are all adults here and we know there are better venues and methods of accomplishing the greater good and bringing souls to God as well as redeeming oneself from living in sin while being a shining example of faith in Jesus Christ.
God Bless You and Yours. 🙏
        Lawence

  56. Faith at its most transformative is characterized by grace, charity and love (of other people). I can’t tell where he stands … there’s not enough depth to this album for me to say. Though I love the bassline on “Water”. – tsk

    • Yes it really is! Grace, charity and love! I love that so much. Thanks so much Tony for sharing your thoughts. It really does have a sick bassline! hugs xo

  57. Like you, I was skeptical at first. But, honestly I’m not able to judge another man’s heart, particularly one I’ve never even met. I’ve given his record a listen and dig a lot of the songs on it. Only time will tell. God uses who He uses. Including broken folks like me.

    • Thanks for sharing your heart on this. Yeah there are great songs! And yes! God uses who He uses! Amen! Hugs and love xox

  58. Amen Caralyn, well said and I totally agree! I just came back to blogging after taking all of October off due to Celiac, so I’m a little late, but I just wrote a post about Kanye today. I’m with you sister! I am praying for Kanye and totally rejoicing that he loves Jesus now! Praise God! God bless!

    • Thank you so much Ryan! So glad this resonated with you. Hope you’re feeling better! Hugs and love xox

  59. This article was a beautiful surprise. I am reminded of why community is important. I have not had a lot of free time recently and I am just getting caught up. I heard about the new album but ignored it. Thank you for giving me a reminder of why we need to honor everyone’s journey. I will not take a listen because I trust you and your opinion. This was a courageous blog and I am thankful for you.

    • Thank you so much Ada! Amen – community is SO important! As is honoring one another’s journeys! Hugs and love xox

  60. I was pleasantly surprised to hear about Kanye’s reported conversion. Salvation is for all, irrespective of one’s past.

If Kanye has truly accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour, i pry for him to walk well and strong on this journey. My advice will be that he should humble himself for proper discipling. As a new babe in Christ, he has to be properly brought up in the Lord, his celebrity status notwithstanding.

    • Thanks so much Victor!! I am so in agreement! I’ll join you in that important prayer. Hugs and love xox

  61. Thank you for your article. My mentor and friend always tells me I am not the Desire Police. I can’t judge anyone else’s desire to follow Jesus. I’m not a Kanye fan (not my kind of music) and all I really know of him is what little I follow in entertainment media. Most of that has not been flattering. Rather than judge one’s faith I pray for their relationship with Abba. His grace transforms even the hardest of hearts. I know. He rescued me from the poor choices I made for so much of my life. Who a is anyone to say He can’t do the same for Kanye or anyone else for that matter.

However, like the Apostles who were initially skeptical of Saul’s conversion I fear Kanye’s conversion will be another voice for the “Prosperity Gospel”. I only say that because of his recent appearance with mega-televangelist Joel Osteen. The gospel and our relationship with Abba can be so much deeper and transformative. Either way, I hope and pray for Kanye and a beautiful relationship with Abba.

    • thank you so much Gregory for sharing your throughts on this. you’re right – we are not to judge others desires – just pray for them on their journey! i’ll going you in that prayer! glad you stopped by! hugs xo

  62. Good word! God is said to go after the one stray sheep, which is encouraging for all of us. No more doubts about our salvation – it was a fait accompli’, a done deal at the cross. I hadn’t yet looked for a service on line, but watched one after reading your post. That is a LOT of worship! God bless them for having the heart for it. Most Christians can barely take 3 songs in a row.

Thanks so much for checking out my lst post. I hadn’t posted for so long, and there you were liking it! I love to see your sweet shining face. keep up the wonderful work. Encouragement is so huge!

    • Thank you so much Franco!! I agree – God bless them for it!! Glad you stopped by! Hugs and love xox

  63. Caralyn, I just posted this article in my Facebook page. I love reading your blog, but I’ve been so absorbed by work, I haven’t lately. WordPress recommendation is to read bloggers you admire. I’m following their advice. 😉 Hope to continue connecting! 😘

  64. I don’t know his music or heart, but not one of us has the right to judge. Let those who are without sin cast the first stone. Only God knows what is in Kanye’s heart. None of us do. We should all be hoping and praying that his conversion is real and genuine, that he will grow as a believer and reach many for Christ. If it isn’t real, God knows that and will deal with it in time. Sadly, there are always those who are skeptical, and I understand that. In for time we will see the fruit in his life or not. But even then, Jesus is the only one who has the right to judge Kanye, just as he will judge us all. Thanks for your post!

    Galen at “DayBreaks”

    • You’re right about that Galen. Only Jesus can judge. All we can do is pray and support our brother! Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love xox

  65. Enjoyed the writing!

I – don’t know what to think… but so much of this is because Khardarshian.

    I’m waiting for my copy.

You know? God knows. And that will have to be enough for me.

Been following you all year….I enjoyed myself.
    Onward.

    • Thanks so much Kreemer!!! Yeah, the whole association with the Kardashian family definitely puts a different spin on it. But i am hopeful that it is genuine! thanks for stopping by and for being such an awesome reader! big hugs to you xox

  66. Perfectly stated! Conversion is messy, doubly so when your life’s been under the public microscope. Yet, in the face of such scrutiny, didn’t flinch, shy or hide the light under the bushel so to speak but began the mission of sharing the light.
A new believer faces much that threaten to destroy a fledgling faith and drag you back into the world. For myself, I felt it my duty as a member of the household of faith to pray for him in his journey and Gods purpose for him. I prayed He place in his path those to foster and nurture that faith. Spiritual maturity takes time and those of us who have grown (and still growing) in faith, must be patient and nurturing with the babies in our midst.
I look forward to watching what the Lord is performing here.
    Hugs 💕

    • Thanks so much Laura! I’m so glad this resonated with you! You’re right! Conversion is messy but God loves our mess! Yes! Let’s pray for Kanye! So glad you stopped by! Hugs and love xox

  67. Hi Caralyn. One thing I’m sure of is Kanye is no surprise to God. We’re all surprised but God knows every heart and He’s able to change it and a mind. Let’s keep praying for blind eyes and ears to be opened. God bless 🙏🏾

    • You’re so right about that – God knows our hearts. I will join you in that important prayer! thanks for stopping by! hugs xox

  68. Its always a great event when a person comes to Christ for salvation and believes the gospel that He died for his sins and rose from the dead, and is then forever saved from his sins and the wrath that God does say is coming on this world because of sin. When that person is a celebrity, sometimes we think it even better, because his status will reach others.
I find it wonderful that Kanye has trusted Christ and rejoice that Christ has saved a man. And that the man wants to now use the talents that he has to glorify Christ is wonderful too. I am glad that he is doing this.
I do also think that Kanye would be wise to slow down a little as a spokesman and do what the Bible teaches, and that is to study the Bible to show himself approved unto God. I’m not saying that he has not, but he is still very young in the faith and because of that short time has much to learn, while he has many hanging on his every word, some trying to find reason to say he is not truly saved, and others maybe looking to faith that ultimately will be based on him and not on the word of God and not in Christ.
Once in the public eye, I’m sure it is nearly impossible to get out of it, I am hoping to see Mr. West learning and growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, and do pray that we will one day see him preaching the cross of Christ and the gospel of the grace of God with wisdom and knowledge from learning from the Lord in His word.
    Thank you for this post.

    • Thanks Charles for sharing your thoughts on this. Amen! I think it’s wonderful too! I will definitely join you in that prayer! Hugs and love xox
