I am angry. Fed up. Saddened. Outraged.
Yes, there’s heatbreaking violence happening between Russia and Ukraine right now.
But there is also horrific violence happening RIGHT HERE, on our own soil, to our own citizens, RIGHT NOW, and not a single word is being spoken about it, and not a single thing is being done about it.
I’m talking about the unspeakable violence that is being committed against Asian-Americans — particularly women and the elderly.
If this is the first you’ve heard it this, it’s because there is absolutely zero news coverage about it.
And that infuriates me. And it infuriates my Filipino boyfriend. And it breaks my hearts to see what the Asian American community is silently grappling with: fear.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, March 2020, there have been over 10,000 hate crimes committed against Asian Americans. The majority occurring in large cities like New York City and San Francisco.
Yesterday – March 16 – was the one-year anniversary of the Atlanta Spa Shootings, where a lone gunman went on a shooting spree at three Atlanta spas, killing eight people, six of them Asian women.
And on that same day, one year later, not only was Asian American actress, Karen Fukuhara, assaulted in a hate crime where she was struck in the head by a man in LA…
But there was also one of the most gut-wrenching attacks on a 67 year old Asian woman in New York City. This elderly woman was entering her apartment building when a burly, 42 year old man, followed her into the building, yelled a racial Asian slur, and then brutally attacked her, pummeling her 127 in the head and fact, and kicking her, stomping her, and spitting on her.
There are no words. No. words. can give justice to the gravity of the horrific, hateful nature of such a terrible act of deliberate violence.
And where’s the news coverage? Hmm?
WHERE IS IT?
After this brutal attack earlier this week, hundreds of Asian women and elderly lined up around the block in Chinatown to buy pepper spray. Hundreds and hundreds of women, braving the cold to stand in line for the only defense tool they can get their hands on. Because the threat of violence is real. Of the 10,905 incidents of Asian hate crimes, 60% were reported by women. The threat on their lives is real.
It’s real on the subway. On the subway platforms. Walking on the sidewalk. Going into an apartment building. Carrying groceries. These attacks are unprovoked. They are out of nowhere. It is a culture of violence in pandemic proportions.
Dating my special gentleman has really opened my eyes to this injustice. It’s hard for me to even fathom that people could harbor hatred in their hearts, not to mention enough hatred to provoke a person to attack another human being for no reason. It is unfathomable to me.
My man follows several Asian instagram accounts that share in real-time, the attacks on Asian Americans across the country. And it seems like every day, he’s telling me about another attack here, and there, and one closer to home — Not a single one of them is covered by the news.
Where is the accountability?
The last two years have been an absolute nightmare, politically. We are watching this administration absolutely destroy this country, one moronic decision at a time. And topping off that list – is Biden’s calamitous decision to defund the police.
Why should we be at all surprised that the majority of these hate crimes are happening in New York City — when the New York Police Department’s budget was cut by ONE BILLION DOLLARS?!
New York City has become a cesspool of crime and debauchery. The subways are just down right dangerous anymore. Just yesterday, a man was slashed in the face while waiting for a train — unprovoked. The assailant fled and is on the loose. In just one weekend in February, there were 8 assaults, one of which was a stabbing. Major crime in the subways is up 81% from last year, and robberies have more than doubled.
Homelessness is out of control. With people living on the subways. There are homeless people taking over the sidewalks as their home. The photo below is on my running route. This homeless living tent has literally taken over this once, cute little park bench oasis. It has been there for over 5 months. No police have come to do anything about it. Nothing.
The absolute crap that our men in blue took during the pandemic – it’s a wonder that we have ANY cops left at ALL!! With record breaking numbers of police officers simply retiring early, or quitting. I mean, wouldn’t you? After two years of being told you’re corrupt, racist, a pig, and figuratively spit on every which way to Sunday, heck, I’d say enough’s enough too.
And who’da thunk that when you take away law enforcement…that crime would spike!? Hmm, you’d think that the two were related!!
Oh my gosh it just makes me want to scream.
And these innocent Asian American people are the ones literally taking the brunt of those consequences.
I hope this post makes you angry, too. Because while we’re all changing our profile photos, and waving Ukrainian flags, and doing this, that, and the other for another country that is halfway around the world — which granted, is important — let us not forget the terrible violence that is happening RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA TO AMERICAN CITIZENS.
Where is the concern for them? Where are their champions coming to defend them? Where is their outcry of support? Where are the people speaking out, “standing in solidarity” for them? Has anyone in Congress ever worn one of their flags? Or worn their colors? Where are the news stories?
WHY DOES NO ONE CARE?
It’s gotta start somewhere.
Let it start right here. With you and me.
Awareness is the key. And if you didn’t know, now you do. Tell people. Start searching for these terrible stories on the Internet. Because they’re out there. They’re just hidden as a one-line mention on the back page of the publication.
They need advocates. People to speak up and demand, not only coverage on this injustice, but an end to the violence. Demanding that the perpetrators be held to the highest penalty of the law for these assaults. And demanding an environment where Asian American women can feel safe to walk home without having to carry pepper spray, fearing for their lives.
The time is now.

The media mentioned anti-Asian hate and associated violence against the community in late 2020 as it could be tied to you know who and even his off the cuff mentioning of the āChina Virusā. The violence has continued into the Biden administration but like ākids in cagesā issues (and human suffering) doesnāt matter if he doesnāt support the current narrative.

I never really understood the acute racism, coming from various cultures, in the USA. We in South Africa, with a neo-Nazist Apartheid (segregation) system, were seen as the skunks of the world while, at street level, most of us got along rather well. But the racism, anarchy, rioting and such we see in the US, is astonishing. For all the KJV-onlyism, gospel choirs, televangelists and vociferous preaching, there isn’t an overwhelming sense of God’s Spirit present in people. In fact, in a recent survey, 86% of adult Americans indicated they didn’t even believe in any higher power.
Combined with the immature, deceitful nature of the media, and an apparent lack of academical prowess, stereotyping that leads to violence, or the lack of reporting, doesn’t come as a surprise. American news reporting presently is the global village idiot.
Ten years ago, Gartner Group said 98% of all people had internet, at a time where maximum 48% were connected, mostly via WAP/GPRS. Now, if the supposed experts can fail like that, don’t expect green broke journalists to even know what a fact is. They report either opinions or news they created.

Our direct neighbour here in Cape Town, up to 2020, was Annie from Taiwan. The sweetest person in the entire building. As is Annie from Thailand and Annie from Vietnam, people we have been friendly with since around 2009.

You’re rightly upset about violence against Asians. But I don’t hear any sympathy for others who are victims of growing hate crimes in America, i.e. Blacks, Jews, Hispanics. All of these groups have suffered from the founding of America to the present. Let’s not forget that it was the 1455 papal bull that approve enslaving people who were not Catholic.
You complain that there aren’t enough police in NYC. There are 36,000 police officers in the department plus 19,000 civilian employees. So how many more do you think are needed?
You’re upset that the police don’t clear the homeless from the streets and parks. Where do you suggest they be placed? In camps? On barges in the rivers? On deserted islands to fend for themselves? — Anywhere just so they’re out of sight, I guess.
If you think the police are there to protect you from those who you resent, and that they never do wrong, then what is there to say. In the 70s and 80s, the LA police were tasked by their chiefs to keep Blacks in certain parts of the city to keep them away from good white folk.
Maybe that’s something you would like to see the NYC police do — keep all the undesirables away from all the “good” people. Maybe the police should be more proactive and profile those they think are going to commit a crime and lock them away before they do. That would sure cut down on crime and if a few innocents were locked up, well that’s just too bad. Wasn’t there a movie like that?
Don’t we do something like that now?
Ohio is now the 23 state to allow carrying concealed guns without a license. Maybe if all the “good” people were armed they could help police the city and act quickly to stem the tide of hate and homelessness with a quick shot.
I grew up in NYC. If you think it’s so awful, immoral and dangerous, maybe you should leave for your sanity.
Now to me, all this hate directed to the poor, crazy and uneducated by those privileged folk who fall back on their religious zeal doesn’t sound very Christian to me, but then what would I know. You’re the good Christian who constantly tells us of your devotion to Christ, God and the Catholic Church, but maybe only as they relate to you and not to those less fortunate. That’s ok, it’s the same with so many of those who say they are close to God.
As H.L. Mencken said: Morality is doing the right thing no matter what you are told. Religion is doing what you are told, no matter what is right.

Just for the record, H.L. Mencken couldn’t be more wrong about morality and religion. He hated what he called “religion,” American business, and the “middle class” of which he was a member, unfortunately for him. The only thing Mencken did of any worth for the society he so disdained was his work ‘The American Language’, in which he brought together American (rather than English) expressions and idioms. Other than that, his satirical writings on current events of his time were short-lived in the public eye.
So, to answer some questions above. Where do we put homeless people? On the lawn of the governor’s mansion, or on the lawn and sidewalks of the capital buildings (in any state). It would take less than a month for new shelters to be opened and homeless programs started.
As an ex-cop, I have never met more than a couple of police officers who thought they were there to appease the mayor, the city council, the rich, the famous, or a citizenry who “resents” homeless people. (They were butt-kissers, seeking promotion.) The only undesirables police are interested in keeping away from “the good people” are criminals.
The fact is, the police and the “good people” care more for the homeless than the likes of H.L. Mencken ever could. Faith-based organizations and institutions do more good for this country than the government will ever do, no matter who is in the White House or the Vatican.

The war in Ukraine is a bit of sore topic for me. I was finally making a great connection with a couple of ladies from there and I was planning a trip to that beautiful country in May. Now I’m just worrying about their safety. Fortunately they’re safe and sound, however a couple have lost their homes and are living in bunkers. At least they are alive and surviving. Hope it all ends soon.
Back to the real topic. My view is that there are no presidential elections at this time so hate crimes will go mostly unnoticed by the mainstream media. The fact that you hear about them shows that one network (Fox) and independent journalists are still covering it.
Most the mainstream media and liberals will point the finger at Trump to blame because he called Covid the “Chinese Virus”.. Well the fact is.. Covid is a Chinese virus. It originated in a lab in China. We weren’t allowed to say it then and it looks like we’re still not allowed. People had no problem calling the Delta variant the “Indian variant” because it started in India. Hypocrites…
Anyways, I’ve digressed again; back to the main point. The media doesn’t cover these stories because it is not about black people getting hurt. Most of these stories are about black people hurting others. The media loves to share stories about the horrible “white man” oppressing the other minorities. Its on the news, in all the movies. The bully is the a white boy. The racist is always white. White, white, white. In real life, it is a different story. But they don’t want you believing that.
I called out this when the first BLM riots started. Just because I said “All Lives Matter”, people called me racist. Just because I pointed out the number of times blacks have been hate crimes towards Asians, I was the racist.
We need to stop grouping people based on their race as BLM wants us to do and start treating everyone based on the content of their character as God wants us to do.

Dailywire has a bit of coverage, same with Redstate (which is not much). The lamestream media (yeah I said it) needs to be held accountable as they never provide much facts anyway. Its the same how they reported the Canadian trucker protest and they at first ignored the American trucker freedom convoy.
The only way the mainstream media will be held accountable is that people turn to independent conservative media sources to get the news as they will provide facts and they also need to provide better coverage on what really needs covering like Asian hate violence. If we don’t have reliable news sources then why bother having them at all.

I guess America is trying to look clean, that makes it necessary to blanket and ignore these stories.
Unfortunately, it’s not only Asians that are hated in America.
If you’re not White, you’re an endangered species.
And you may not like what I’m about to say, but it needs to be said.
How many non-Native Americans make a scene — if necessary — about the cruelty the Native Americans face regularly? The abductions, the murders, the rapes, the lack of funding, the deliberate isolation and so on?
I imagine some Asains/Africans/Latin-Americans have been raising their voices on the plight of Native Americans.
But it’s painfully obvious that the vast majority, look the other way and cross to the other side.
Until, it’s their “turn” to be persecuted.
The same violence is hopping from one ethnic nationality to another like an epidemic.
History has shown time and time again, that if you don’t stand up strong against injustice happening to completely unrelated victims, you would soon be a victim of the injustice.
But as usual, we never learn.
Like what is happening in Ukraine.
I have been praying because I know, if we don’t pray really hard and maybe mount pressure on our leaders to come up with do something nonviolent but highly effective to stop this war, looking the other way or not “interfering” is not going to stop the war from spreading.
We somehow think, supporting neither side, will keep us safe.
If we don’t handle far away matters as if it’s happening to us, then we have just given it permission to come to us.
Most times, perpetrators pick one unpopular relatively unknown group or person to hurt, just to see people’s reactions.
If people choose to be lukewarm or indifferent, they extent their cruel courtesy to the popular and the known, because that has been their real target, all along.
The unknown was just a psychological experiment.
All hands has to be on deck to fight injustices, as one global voice.
If you have to petition your mayor or stage a protest to the senate or to the White House as One America, then do it.
What happens to one happens to all.
And this applies to not just America but all countries in the world, where one form of injustice or the other is still thriving.

I am half Chinese. I my 79 years in Canada I have only run into discrimination twice = one invo9lved my being rejected as a candidate for a professional library job. Canada is a very tolerant country and I’m proud to be a Canadian.
This was so lovely to read. At least some places are not taking out all their frustrations on Asian Americans. There were several nasty anti Asian incidents locally here in Australia too, although as I remember they did clamp
down hard on it. It is not just down to the police, it is down to all of us to do as much as we can to stop hate crime.

I remember commenting then how easy it would be to help him rather than complain. My only thought when I see the homeless is:

Hi friend, I’m not going to try to defend myself my listing off the times I buy Cliff bars for the homeless outside my grocery store, or have given my takeout to a homeless person I pass on the way home. Pointing out that there is a problem in the city does not make me a horrible person. Pointing out that there should be rehabilitation programs for homeless people to help get them back on their feet, set up with jobs and temporary housing does not make me a horrible person. The fact is, homelessness is a huge problem in our city. Yes, we need to show compassion, and I do. But we also need to keep the streets safe. And I’m also not a horrible person to say that as a slight, single female who lives alone and has to walk directly past that homeless tent everyday, it concerns me from a safety standpoint. I’m just not going to try to defend myself. God sees my heart.
I suspect homelessness is a problem in pretty much every city in the world. I really hope you know that I do not think you are a horrible person. I am sorry that it came across that way.

In the 60s and 70s of the previous century, Walter Cronkite was considered “the most trusted man in America.” He set the pattern for factual, unemotional news anchors for the next 60 years and still is the model. I believe it was in “A Reporter’s Life,” a text he published in 1991, that he said something along these lines: “Unbiased news is a myth. We show our bias just in the selection of what we cover; what appears important enough to the reporter to tell other people.” (NOT a quote)
As for homelessness in America, studies have shown that upwards of 90% of “homeless” people COULD stay in someone’s home; a relative’s or friend’s, but they would have to obey “house rules,” e.g. no drugs, turn off lights, wipe your feet, go to bed by midnight, etc.. The “safety net” that the government provides pushed out the legitimate one of families, churches and agencies that really cared and promoted a culture of “someone else will take care of me.”
This is not to be heartless, especially for those who genuinely NEED help, and there are many! But call up some personal responsibility for choices people make. We cannot save every lemming that wants to run off the edge of the cliff.

The abysmal decline in journalism in general has resulted in horrors like the one you’ve highlighted continuing to occur unabated. The media moguls decide not only which “truth” to cover but whether or not to cover the “truth” at all! Well, you sure weren’t too vocal about not supporting his verbiage when it mattered. This post is too little too late. Trump unleashed hatred towards minorities like a pandora’s box. Many Christians stood by and even silently cheered it on. As the bible says “you reap what you sow.”

I’m just going to say it. The reason the whole country isn’t up in arms over these horrible attacks is is because of the race of the perpetrators. If these were white males beating up on elderly Asian women, it would lead every news report. However, since these brutal attacks are being committed overwhelmingly by black males, crickets. Doesn’t fit the narrative. Sorry.
A liberal is one who pretends to care about rights but is really attempting to do away with what made our country great. A conservative by definition is one who wants to conserve the American way, which is the constitution constructed by men moved by the Great Awakening, an authentic revival of God. I do hope the Christian community wakes up and votes as they should during the next election.
My hometown news ran a story 2 weeks ago, about our state government discussing Asian hate crimes happening and lobbying for stronger laws and consequences. I know you said no one is talking about it, but my community was! I wish there was more visibility on this issue!
I use alternative media and so have been horrified by this increasing trend. I have to say, it breaks my heart and I donāt even UNDERSTAND the stupidity of it! I mean, I get evil is evilā¦and this hatred is evil, so maybe there will be no understandingā¦but while I blame our government AND the Chinese GOVERNMENT, for the stupid horrible virus, that in NO WAY implicates Asian peopleā¦what are people thinking in taking out their fears and frustrations as hatred, violent hatred, on unsuspecting, innocent people who are and have suffered just like them?! I donāt get it.

I think that this is sad. I think that over the past two years that the news just covers what they want. I think they try to hide news too.
