A NIGHT OUT ON BROADWAY

Hello friends and happy Thursday!

I am back in NYC, living on an air mattress in my empty apartment for the last few days before our “for real” moving date to Cincinnati!

If moving, replacing 2 HVACs on the roof, Thanksgiving, and wrangling canceled furniture deliveries wasn’t enough…throw in there some family birthdays and of course, Christmas for good measure!

That’s right, we are not slowing down around here anytime soon!

Guess what: This weekend is Steven’s BIRTHDAY! And so we’re actually going to see Hamilton tonight! That was my parents’ and my birthday gift to him, and gosh are we excited!

I have seen the show once before with my mom when she was in town. And Steven has never seen a Broadway show before after living here his entire life, so of course, we had to go out with a bang and see, arguably the best Broadway show of all time! (Minus Aida and Wicked, of course.)

What was your favorite Broadway show that you’ve ever seen?

But anywho – after tonight, then we have his birthday weekend celebration! I’m throwing him a “BYOC: BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR” party in his vacant apartment! His cousin is going to DJ it, I’m going to be making lots of delicious food (that don’t require an oven) — and it’s going to be an amazing time!

If there’s one thing that I’ve realized since we’ve been navigating this season of moving, and leaving this lives we’ve both built here in NYC, both separately and together – is that, though we will no longer be living here physically, NYC will always be a part of us.

And that goes for more than just NYC.

Our past doesn’t just disappear with a new surrounding.

You are who you are, no matter where you are.

And who I am has definitely been shaped by this city, and the relationships I have here. Just like my life is also shaped by everything I’ve been through in the various seasons of my past, both good and bad.

We take it all with us. And the key is to allow the good to rise to the surface, and to let the bad go, and take only the lessons learned with you.

And I really feel like I’m at a point where, for the first time, I actually — not only believe it — but am living it.

I no longer carry around the shame or the guilt from my past anorexia. Jesus has freed me from that. I no longer feel the weight and pang of “what could have been” had I not developed that eating disorder. And I have finally forgiven myself of all the destruction I caused to — not just my body — but also the relationships with the people I love most.

And there is a beautiful freedom in that: in being able to recognize what you’ve been though — acknowledge the past, release yourself from any emotional entanglements with it, and move forward, stronger and more resilient as a result.

There is nothing more beautiful than a heart at peace, and that is what Jesus has given me through His forgiveness, redemption and grace. And that is exactly what I pray for you, too.

So anywho – that took a turn a I was not expecting. πŸ™‚

It is not officially time that I need to skadaddle out of here so as not to be late to the theater!

Have a wonderful, wonderful weekend. I’ll see you on Monday!

  4. I always hoped I’d run into you on one of my many trips to New York, but it never happened. It’s unlikely to happen in Ohio, but who knows in this crazy world where we’re all connected! Enjoy every minute of being back home with your family and starting your new life. I look forward to reading all about it!
