Hello, YouTube | Recovery is Not Guaranteed VIDEO!

I was so moved by all the wonderful comments on last week’s post: “Hard Truth: Recovery is Not Guaranteed,” that I decided to turn it into a video on YouTube! And bonus…you get a sneak peak at my new condo in the video.

This is going to become a more common occurrence, as I am going to start making YouTube videos on a weekly — perhaps even daily — basis going forward.

So if you feel so inclined, I’d love it for you to subscribe to my channel!

Allow me to share a little story.

Once upon a time, there was a little ol’ blogger who had quite a large viewership platform on Pinterest to the tune of 6.5 million. And she worked diligently creating content for them in their “Creator Monetization Program,” and even won their global Golden Recipe Challenge in November of last year.

BIG announcement. I am now going to be on #YouTube ON THE DAILY! Plus - how #Pinterest left their Creators high and dry last December. AND a video from last week's powerful #recovery #blog post. #edrecovery #catholic #christianity #mentalhealth #contentcreators #youtubeshorts

She worked so hard that she earned enough to make a nice living for herself — akin to a teacher’s salary — which helped her furnish a new condo she and her fiance had just purchased in her hometown.

Well, on the eve of Christmas, just three months ago, this little lady gets an email from Pinterest…“Oh it must be a “Happy Holidays” greeting to their hard working content creators,” she naively thought. But alas, she was very, very wrong.

This Christmas letter was sent to inform these creators that Pinterest would be ending their Creator Monetization Program TOMORROW…as in, December 25.

Merry Christmas people-who-have-built-our-platform-into-what-it-is. We’re not going to pay you anymore!

It was a devastating shock to say the least. Not only emotionally disappointing in that I had worked so hard to earn a living and build out my viewership on there, but also disappointing that this income that I had been relying upon was now dried up like creek in the desert…overnight.

No time to prepare. No time to plan. Just *poof* — vanished into thin air.

Which just goes to show how fickle the content creating world really is. Never get too comfortable, because it could literally change overnight.

So yeah, that’s what I’ve been dealing with behind the scenes during this new year. Let me tell ya: moving to a new city with a new mortgage is not fun when one of your main sources of income instantly disappears.

BIG announcement. I am now going to be on #YouTube ON THE DAILY! Plus - how #Pinterest left their Creators high and dry last December. AND a video from last week's powerful #recovery #blog post. #edrecovery #catholic #christianity #mentalhealth #contentcreators #youtubeshorts

I’ve tossed around going to Law School…which my dad thinks I would be great at. I’ve tossed around getting another degree in nutrition…which I may do. I’ve thought about getting my real estate license.

But no matter which direction I do, Steven advised me to shift my content focus to YouTube/YouTube shorts — which he says is where all video content is moving. And coming from a NYC Digital Marketing exec, that’s coming from a pretty reliable source.

Anyways.

I’m going to devote the time I was formerly putting into Pinterest, now into YouTube.

Reading this back, it sounds like I’m ending my blog…which I AM NOT. It will be the exact same as it was in 2013, in 2020, in 2022! It’s just the “side gig” I had going with Pinterest will now turn into the “side gig” I have going with YouTube.

So yeah. ALLLLL that to say, that I am going to be more present on YouTube! And it would really help if you could subscribe to my channel! Right now, we’re at 904 subscribers, and it’s my goal to reach 1,000! Subscribing is a small and free way that you can help support this blog and my blog ministry! So thank you!

Have a wonderful, wonderful Monday, my friends!

See ya on YouTube!

  1. I remember when you were hit with the Pinterest thing, how devastating. The company 100% should have alerted you well before the change. Such arrogance! All any of us can do is go forward. I don’t use YouTube these days but I can view your videos here with a link I guess. Have a great week, Caralyn! ☺️🙏🏻

  2. Amazon did the same thing to their flex drivers one Christmas season. No notice, no explanation, just no available delivery shifts. That’s one of the reasons I no longer shop Amazon.

    • oh my gosh that’s terrible. when you consider that that is people’s livlihoods and how they feed their families, it is just heartbreaking. i had no idea that happened! thanks for sharing that. And I really hope that didn’t happen to YOU!! sending love! Hugs and love xox

  3. Caralyn, God will bless your your YouTube short. I watch a few people on YouTube and many of them have started shorts along with their longer blogs on a less frequent basis. I will check you at on YouTube and subscribe. Blessings on your new endeavor.

    • Thank you so much my friend. That is my prayer! I am trusting that God will lead me where He wants me to go! i appreciate the encouragement, and for subscribing! 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  4. So sorry that Pinterest cut you off like that, and on Christmas day! That was very inconsiderate! I know that God will continue to bless you!
I have subscribed to your YouTube channel! The best of luck to you.

    • Thank you Paula for subscribing! I agree – ninety days sure would have been appreciated, but alas…i have to trust that God has something else in store for this coming year! 🙂 hope you’re having a great day! Hugs and love xox

  5. Hi Caralyn,
I am so sorry that Pinterest did this to you and on Christmas day to boot! It is disgusting that they are so rude and inconsiderate. But, God will continue to bless you and provide what you need.
Steven is right, YouTube will be good for you. I have subscribed!

    • Thank you Delores, I truly appreciate those kind words. Yeah, it was a tough blow, but i have to trust that God has something else in store for me! thank you for subscribing! 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  6. I have subscribed to your YouTube channel! And I think you would do awesome in real estate, having experienced the microsized offerings of New York to your newest acquisition in Cincinnati. Lawyer? To be perfectly honest, all the lawyers I have known have buckled under the stress, suffering from alcoholism or other afflictions trying to deal with the stress. I personally wouldn’t recommend it just based on that viewpoint. God *will* guide you on your path…just follow His light.

    • Hi Lisa, oh my goodness, thank you so much! i really appreciate it! oh gosh- that’s tough to hear about lawyers… yeah it definitely comes with. A LOT of stress. I think i nixed it because I’m hoping to become pregnant if that is in God’s will for us in the next year or so! and so that with law school doesn’t really seem like they’d mix too well….but real estate could be fun! 🙂 and amen to that: ultimately, HE is going to lead me where I’m supposed to be, and I trust that 100%! thank you for the encouragement! Hugs and love xox

  7. I worked for an internet company some years ago, which sold to an internet company, which sold to yet another internet company. We had 40 minutes notice before they came into our office and closed it. I feel your pain! But God works through our pain, doesn’t he? 🙂
I am not a fan of Youtube, mainly because it’s owned by Google. You might also consider Rumble or GAB.
I do pray it is successful for you.

    • Hi Myron! oh my gosh that is terrible! it’s crazy how fast things change when it comes to all things intnet! That’s a great point – i have heard wonderful things about rumble! thank you for the prayers! Hugs and love xox

    • Hi Kaci! Oh my gosh thank you so much for subscribing, and for your prayers! i really appreciate it! Hugs and love xox

    • Hi Kristi! Oh my gosh thank you for your readership!! I am so grateful for you!! 🙂 Hugs and love xox

    • thank you Rollie – you’re kind to say that. yeah, it was a huge bummer, but God I think has other things in store than just making one minute recipe videos, perhaps 🙂 heheh Hugs and love xox

  9. You should consider moving your blog to Substack. You can use Substack to monetize your blog in a more direct way so that you own your mailing list and your relationship with subscribers, and you aren’t operating at the whim of an algorithm or fickle corporate priorities. Some people are successfully tying their substack in with their youtube channels, too. I started producing content there in parallel with WordPress (timesdispatch.substack.com).

Been a while since I commented, glad all has been well! I got married in November of last year and my wife moved out of New York and we both moved to a new state so I sympathize with all the simultaneous moving/marriage planning pains. Marriage is a wonderful, beautiful sacrament and I wish you all the best. God bless you!

    • Hi Scoot – ooh thank you for this interesting idea! i’ve never heard of them..i’ll have to check it out. And oh my gosh congratulations on your marriage! how very exciting. and yes — moving is definitely a lot to add on top of the newness of marriage! but all good things! allows us to grow together and experience this newness as a team! 🙂 praying for you and your wife in your new vocation! 🙂 Hugs and love xox

  10. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

  11. I pray that the good Lord will reward you, for all that you have done to help others and give God the Glory. May he continue to bless you, as you have remained faithful, in your betrayal by Pinterest. Wishing you and Steven the best. Alan
