Prayers for One Year

Today marks the one year anniversary of the passing of my fiancé’s father.

We are in New Jersey right now, commemorating him, and gathering with family and close friends in remembrance of such a wonderful man.

A man who helped shape my fiancé into the man he is today. A man whose generosity and love was palpable with all those he came in contact with. A man who welcomed me into his family with open arms, and made me feel so loved.

Walking through the grieving process with Steven has definitely been challenging, but I feel so honored to be able to be by his side during it.

I think sometimes we feel like we don’t know what to say to someone who is grieving, or that we’re going to say the wrong thing, or that we’re going to be a nuisance to someone who just wants to be alone, but what I have seen is that just being there is what matters. You don’t have to say much, just being present, a support, reminding them that they’re not alone, simply through your physical presence.

My fiancé’s family is incredible at that. Tonight, family and close friends are all gathering at the house. We’re going to pray the rosary and just be together with good food, good wine, and most likely some karaoke.

I have been so inspired by the way they are there for each other.

So if you could, please say a special prayer for us tonight, that my fiancé and his family feel the comfort and closeness of Jesus in their grief. May their hearts be filled with the joyful memories of his life well lived. And be comforted by the outpouring of love in this home tonight.

Until Monday…

      • One of the greatest blessings in your life: knowing Jesus, adopting His love, joy, peace, and patience as you waited for healing, and waited for that next blessing: meeting Steven. Wow! So worth the wait!!

  1. On this sad occasion take comfort in our Lord. You will see your intended departed father in law in a better land some day so find encouragement in that thought.

    • you’re so right about that, Ian. we will all be reunited in Heaven, and that is a beautiful thing indeed. thank you for that encouragement. Hugs and love xox

In times Iike this, I am always reminded of the words of Dr. Jesse Duplantis, “They’re not in your past, they’re in your future.”
Perhaps those are the words that you can tell Stephen. That is what we have as Christians. We will meet those who have passed again.
Sure, we will miss their presence here in this life. It is OK to grieve. It is human. Nothing wrong with that. But let’s not forget that when we say Goodbye, it’s never forever.

    • Thank you friend. I love that thought. i will definitely pass that along. it’s never forever. amen. Hugs and love xox

  3. Two days late, but “Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Matthew 6:8) So unbounded by our time, my prayers will work back to Thursday night. 😉
    ❤️&🙏, c.a.

    • thank you CA, you’re right about that – we are safe in His hands. I appreciate your prayers my friend! Hugs and love xox

  4. Great post, especially about “just being there.” People sometimes say the dumbest things with the best intentions while trying to comfort a grieving person.
Even “I know how you feel” can be really shallow, because every relationship is different.
May our Lord Jesus Christ continue to comfort and strengthen Steven.
