About JACKFRUIT!
If you are unfamiliar with Jackfruit, it’s pretty much an alien-looking, massive, tropical fruit.
I got my hands on one. And an adventure ensued.
Come hang out with me in my miniature Manhattan kitchen for a couple minutes, as I bust into this crazy food!
((Click the picture below or this link to play video)) 😉
Also, on Thursday, I’ve got an exciting announcement, so stay tuned for that!
Hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful Labor Day, complete with good food, good people, and good weather!
Thanks for watching!

Haha! What a weird fruit! That was fun, thanks for sharing. =)
Haha thanks Dan! Yeah it was suuuuper strange! Definitely an experience. So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 🙂 xx
I’m fairly sure that was an alien not a jackfruit.
Hahaha I think you’re right! 😬 thanks for watching! Xox
Wikipedia says it’s in the ‘fig’ family, so the latex-type material makes sense. On another note, I don’t know how many times I had the ‘adventure’ face when trying new foods. We really are scared and wondering what will happen 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Interesting! Funny…figs are hands down my favorite food at the moment. I ate an entire carton this weekend! They’re nature’s candy!! ❤️❤️❤️
I LOVE figs! There are actually several trees in my neighborhood and if the tree hangs over the edge of the property they don’t care if people pick figs off of it. Luckily the house across the street from me was empty all summer and there is a fig tree in their yard right next to the street 🙂 very nice blessing!!!
What a nice blessing indeed! Straight from the tree-lucky you!!
That’s exactly how I felt 🙂
❤️❤️❤️
Hi!
This video seriously cracked me up. 😆 <- Kind of like that, but a lot louder. That is one seriously crazy fruit.
Hahah oh good!!! So glad it made you laugh:) big hugs to you. Thanks for watching xox
Hugs back to you! 🙂
❤️❤️❤️
I grew up with jackfruits, and let me tell you, my childish tastebuds did not like! Now that I know it’s great for you, I gotta love it!
Really?!! How interesting! Where did you grow up, may I ask? Hugs and love xox
I grew up in Jamaica, so tropical fruits galore!
OOOOH! wowwwww…Jamaica. That’s incredible. Talk about paradise! 🙂 hugs xox
Yeah, it was definitely an amazing place to grow up
😍☀️☀️☀️
Ok so I love jackfruits, but I literally had no idea how complicated the fruit was and how complicated it can be to take those yummy pieces out!! Thanks for increasing my knowledge of jackfruits! 🙂 Thank you for sharing Carolyn – it was one unique but funny video!! 😀 <3
Thanks so much! haha, yeah it was seriously like an hour and a half ordeal! but SO worth it! glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching! 🙂 xox
I haven’t seen a Jackfruit in years. But I have eaten plenty as a child. It is very delicious. The meat tastes much better when sprinkled with salt. And the seeds are great when roasted.
Hey Noel! yeah it was a really fun (and messy) experience! Really! how interesting! I’ll have to try that next time! hugs xox
Slicing into my Labor Day watermelon wasn’t half as fun.
Hahaha but I bet just as delicious! ☺️☺️☺️thanks for watching! Hugs and love xox
Haha yah I think nothing compares to that facial expression she made lol!
Just beautiful 🙂
haha thanks! yeah it was pretty bizarre! thanks for watching 🙂 hugs xox
That looked like a lot of work…but worth it in the end. I will put that on my foods I need to try list. Thank you for sharing in your adventure.
Hey Dwight! Haha yeah it really was! And totallllly worth it! Thanks for watching! Hugs and love xox
This is a delightful video. If I weren’t married and you weren’t young enough to be my daughter, I would propose marriage.
Hahah thanks David! Glad you liked the video! Hugs xox
Yum! Jackfruit is so delish but wowww that’s a lotta work haha X
Haha I know! Super tasty but suuuuper difficult! Thanks for watching Sharni! Hugs and love xox
A jack what?? Looks like a blend of fruitcake and pineapple! Is it safe to eat?? LOL
Haha I know! It’s pretty crazy! Yes! It’s actually quite delicious! Xox
My daughter and I saw a whole one at the store a few weeks ago and had no clue what it was!! Loved the video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching! Oh yeah, the whole think looks like an alien, doesn’t it? With the prickly green shell!?! Hugs and love xox
Oh how I love seeing your beautiful face!!! You’re the best on film!! 🙂
Aw Kaila, you’re so sweet:) thank you ❤️❤️❤️ hope you’ve had a lovely Labor Day! Sending massive hugs xox
You never fail to make me smile, even on the hard days. Thanks for being you. 🙂

See you at Patreon…
You gotcha👍❤️👍❤️
Bet’cha! Not gotcha! Haha 😂😂😂
Just posted. There now.
👍👍👍👍
I’m going to have to try one of these now… do they sell them in regular grocery stores?
Hmm…I’m not sure. I know Whole Foods carries them, and if they don’t they can special order one. I think that’s the case with any grocery store: if they don’t carry something, they typically can order it in per request. I have seen them at Specialty grocery stores in Chinatown. That doesn’t really help…I’m sorry! but yeah, ask the customer service at your grocer! 🙂 thanks for watching! xox
I would be so afraid to eat that.
haha I know, Isabella.I had some trepidation beforehand too! I mean, it SERIOUSLY looks like an alien!!! lol thanks for watching! hugs xox
Happy Labor Day! And it is huge too!! 😁
Same to you! 😘
That was great. Thanks so much for the laugh.
Oh good! I’m so glad it made you laugh! Thanks for watching 🙂 Hugs and love xox
I don’t know. My mom told me to never eat anything bigger than my head.
Hey Brian! Hahaha yeah, I think she was onto something there…:) thanks for watching! Hugs and love xox
And in your case: nothing larger than your kitchen counter. I was worried when you started reaching out of the camera frame. All that sticky stuff on your fingers. I was half expecting you to end up glued to the walls.
Haha yeah that was definitely not out of the realm of possibilities 😂 This clip didn’t make the video but it actually was so sticky it made my fingernail polish come off!!!
Well, at least you know one way to keep a man from getting away…
😂❤️
Great post 🙂 Happy Labor Day 🙂 Are Jackfruits tasty? 🙂 Anyway, keep up the great work as always 🙂
Hey John! Thanks! Right back at’cha! Yes! I actually really enjoyed it. Totally worth the mess and ordeal of breaking into it! In fact, I filmed this last weekend and I’ve bought one since:) hehe thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love xox
I was cracking up throughout the whole video 😀 I’m in the middle of an exam block, so I really could do with some extra laughs!!
Seriously though, that is one crazy fruit! I will have to try it one day. 🙂
Oh good!!! 🙂 that seriously makes me so happy that it made you laugh! Good luck on your exams! Definitely keep your eyes peeled for one–they’re 100% worth the effort! Thanks again for watching 🙂 Hugs and love xox
In the Philippines it’s called langka and it’s a great dessert option. I can usually only find it canned in the US. Were you able to buy this locally? My parents would serve this to me in a dish called ‘halo-halo’ which means ‘mix-mix’. Shaved ice, sweet condensed milk, evaporated milk, langka, coconut jelly, flan, purple yam, red beans, all these wonderful sweet things with different colors and textures mixed up in a bowl and served cold. It’s delicious.
Oh wow halo halo sounds INCREDIBLE 😍😍😍😍 that’s so interesting! I bought it from whole foods and I think they shipped it in from far-far away, unfortunately. I definitely try to eat locally when I can, but I just don’t think that’s possible with jackfruit in the states! Haha maybe Hawaii… Glad you stopped by! Hugs and love xox
You had me smiling and laughing the whole way through! I think you need a cooking show, or at least a “What is this food?” show.
Hey Paul! Oh good! I’m so glad it make you smile:) haha wouldn’t that be a fun show to film!? Thanks for watching! Have a great night xox
Nice video Carolyn 🙂 Yes, jackfruits smell and taste awesome : ) At my hometown here in India, we had about 5-6 varieties of jackfruit trees. Whole family used to gather around the person who cuts the fruit and distributes. 😀
Here is a tip for the next time: You can apply some oil ( we use coconut oil ) to your hands before cutting the fruit and to wipe the oozing latex (if much), you may use waste clothe piece, which you can throw away later. 😀
Much love,
Carol
Thanks Carol! Wow that’s amazing! And such a great tip. I bet that would have definitely helped the whole sticky situation! Haha thanks for sharing that! Glad you stopped by my friend! Big hugs xox
Do you want to know in how many different ways jackfruits can be used as food? :D, Unripe fruit can be pickled and can prepare curries. Seeds also are very tasty when cooked with salt and are protein rich. Here’s the link with 144 recipes,..;) http://verygoodrecipes.com/jackfruit haha!
Oh my gosh thank you for that link! I just got my hands on another jackfruit so I will definitely try cooking the seeds! Hugs and love xox
Awesome! 🙂 Hugs to you friend. Have a great weekend. 🙂
❤️❤️❤️
Totally kewl vid!! Its neat to see people try different things. There are so many out there like Ugli Fruit, Star Fruit, many varieties of melons. I love the apples, bananas, grapes, but the many other fruits and wonderful too. For many, even my passion, The Mango, is quite different. I wish many, would try more!! Hugs, love and love your vid!!
Thanks Migueltio! Haha so glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah it was definitely a fun -albeit messy -adventure! Ooh I love mangoes too! Thanks for watching! Have an awesome day! Hugs and love xox
xox <3
❤️❤️
<3 <3 <3
Yeah, yesterday was my bday and guess what I had a Mango cake, with Mango frosting, and with it Mango sorbet (from Trader Joe’s). Gee what’s MY favorite fruit?? LOL!! You know what I like too, are the many varieties of bananas. I love the reds, the little baby bananas, cooking with plantains, etc.. and all. xoxo<3xoxo
Oh my gosh happy belated birthday!! And wow your cake looked super delish!
It was thanks! Yeah, there isn’t a thing on here for peoples’ bdays is there. Biggest hugs!!
Haha no I don’t think so. There should be. That’s a be good profile addition! Hugs and love xox
Come see my newest poem, Adirondack Paradise. 🙂
Definitely! Looking forward to reading it:)
I’ve never seen one not cut up like the one you had in the video. They’re definitely alien looking. Never realized how much work they were to get to the good stuff! Oddest fruit I had was called a Rose Apple. It was deep red and in the shape of a heart. I expected it to be like an apple in texture, but it was more like a watermelon, and ridiculously juicy. I’ve only had a few as apparently they’re extremely delicate and don’t ship well. I’ve never seen them in the U.S. unfortunately.
Thanks! Yeah it was definitely a it of a mess to bust it open! How interesting! I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for a rose apple! Thanks for watching! Hugs and love xox
Ha! Thank you for sharing your adventure!! I have seen this monstrous fruit and wondered what it was/is!! Quite the workout there! 😜
Haha yes it was! Thanks Kim, for taking the time to watch! Big hugs xox
You’re amazing, because I wouldn’t have known what to do with that…lol lol – I love trying out new things but I know I would have had a time with dissecting that fruit. Hey, I’m having a guest blogger series going on starting Sept 9th thru Nov 1st and would love it if you would be one of my guest, I know you’re busy…so whenever you think about it…lol. Blessings~
Hahah thanks! Yeah it was definitely a fun adventure! Aw thank you for asking! What an honor. Im actually in the middle of filming a web series so I have 12 hr days for the next couple of weeks, so unfortunately I’m going to have to take a pass, as I can barely eek out posts for BBB! Haha but have an amazing morning! Hugs and love xox
Okay, it’s cool – no problem; I truly understand. Let me know when the series comes out and I forgot to tell you CONGRATS! on 16,000 followers – that’s truly a blessing. Keep being the AWESOME person you are, I feel another 16,000 plus followers coming your way. Blessings~
Aw thank you so much! Yes, definitely! I truly would love to. Perhaps after this month is over and things settle down 👍👍👍 sending massive hugs xox
Hi, thanks for reading my blog and yes I am familiar with jackfruit as it is one of my fave fruit actually. It can be found in Asia mostly so most Asians know about this. FYI… if you don’t know yet… you can also eat the seed yes! just boil it and when it’s a bit softer inside then it’s ready to eat. You can even buy this in the supermarket here in AD. Enjoy! 🙂
Hi Vinneve! That’s awesome! Another jackfruit lover:) seriously?!! You can eat the seeds?!! Wow! Definitely going to have to try that. They seemed like alien seeds! Haha glad you stopped by! Have a great afternoon! Hugs and love xox
Yes try to boil the seeds and let me know if you like it or not. Cheers!
Will do!! ❤️❤️❤️👍👍
You are adorable! Thanks for the info on the fruit – I’d never heard of it. 🙂
And congrats on so many followers. What an amazing accomplishment.
Sending you much love and Light, my friend … and to all of those who you touch with your blog.
Blessings xo Debbie <3 Hugs
Aw thanks Debbie! Yeah it was definitely a fun fruit adventure! Thanks for watching!! ❤️
<3 <3
Congrats on 16,000 subscribers! All I could think was “wow, that’s about 9000 more people than my town’s population!” So you’ve got quite the little/BIG community going. 🙂 And that jack fruit looks awesome. It’s as much fun as peeling a pomegranate, from what I could tell.
Thank you so much! Haha oh my gosh that’s crazy when you think about it like that!! Thanks for your encouragement Hugs and love xox
Cute! Very Cute!
Thanks Dino! I appreciate you watching! Hugs and love xox
My father always said that there was a certain way to cut a jack fruit, otherwise you’ll get sap all over you. He also told me that he wasn’t entirely sure how, but we made do. ^◡^
Haha interesting! Hmm yeah that would have been helpful because that sap was stickyyyy!!! Haha thanks for watching! Xox
You are very brave to try new things!!
Haha thanks! Yeah this was a pretty crazy adventure! Thanks for watching! Xox
From the first photo (showing it broke in pieces) at top it looks like pieces of broad linguine attached to the underside of Alligator skins, and grasping pieces of Spam. Fine little show, thanks for it.
By the way, we have Jack Rabbits down here, maybe no Jack Fruit.
Hahha oh my gosh that description is hysterical! It seriously was super weird and that’s actually pretty accurate, except the linguini was stretchy like silly putty. Haha Hugs and love xox
I’ve never heard of it but I love trying new things like that! Hmmm wonder where I could get one around here? Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! Strangely enough I think you can get them off of amazon! Haha Hugs and love xox
Good posts, beautiful blog.
Congratulations.
Welcome to see my creations: paintdigi.wordpress.com
Thank you so much! glad you enjoyed it 🙂 hugs xox

smells a little queer but it tastes really good…had my first in August. 🙂
Hey Yolanda! It’s definitely an adventure! Haha thanks for watching! Xox
You are lovely. Also inspiring. Ty for you. 🙂 love it!! I know you might think I don’t think I don’t care; but I do and I appreciate you and the support and your unspiration. For real. I’m anti-sicial. I read what you post always, bit I don’t respond. #fuckedup #antisocialbecauseimscared
Oh my gosh thanks so much:) seriously, you have no idea how much it means to me to know that you read my posts. Thank you. You are a blessing to me:) hope you’re having a beautiful week xox
I just want to you inspire me.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
But you never told us WHY you opted to try a jackfruit??
Your expressions were hysterical, and you leave me unconvinced that I want to try one and exert that much effort to….chew on a latex glove 😀
And the exquisite irony of it was not lost on me. Recovering from an ED, and you do a show on not just food, but exotic and peculiar food! Such recovery 😀 😀
Haha thanks Jeff! I guess I was just intrigued after watching Fully Raw Christina film a tutorial on it. It looked really interesting and I couldn’t pass up a fruit that tastes like bubble gum! Haha yeah a little weird texture. Thank you friend. Massive hugs to you xox
Actually, Ig means a lot to me that you care, and follow. You’re inspirational
.And beautiful, although I know full well that matters no one bit. Thank you. For being you and showing It. Not many people do. I do and people like you I inspire me fully to be myself. I know anerexia. Also bulimec. I’m afraid to read your posts . But when I do. I’m always glad I did. Thankyou. #lovefromastranger
You’ve absolutely just made my day. You have a beautiful heart. ❤️
I’m sorry for my grammar. I’m a fan girl all day:) ty :)!!

No worries!
So cute and hilarious. I have seen those before and was curious about them, so thanks for the video!
Thanks Laura! Aw you’re so sweet:) yes! Definitely try it out! Hugs and love xox
That looked painful 🙂
Haha it was definitely an ordeal, I’ll say that!!
It looked it:)
❤️❤️❤️❤️
💕💕💕
[…] But I wanted to just fill you in on the Special Announcement I mentioned in my last post. […]
Thanks for the link up! 🙂 have a great night! xo
I love jackfruit 🙂 I grew up eating this delicious fruit. It is best to eat it when it is really ripe. You can also boil the meat ( the yellow part) with white sugar & a little bit of water. Boil it for few minutes. You can use it as toppings on your vanilla ice cream. Yummmmy!
Thanks so much! Oh my gosh lucky you!! So interesting. I’ll have to give that a try next time! Hugs and love xox
🙂 this fruit is worth enjoying as it also tells us the story about “DIGNITY OF LABOUR”
Haha oh my gosh SO TRUE!! Thanks for watching Hugs and love xox
yupp
❤️
Now look. as you ate the pulpy part of the ripe jackfruit you might have found giant hard seeds inside. Don’t throw them.
wash them and then put them in under sun for a full day.
Now with sharp edged knife or any other cutting kitchen equipment you may slice down the seeds either into thin longitudinal section or as round slices.
then with some mustard oil or any other oil you may fry the same pieces with a little common salt and there your snack is ready for your evening tea.
this is just delicious. the only thing that may cause a problem is that after being dried the seeds become a little hard to be cut with a knife. so have to find some way of cutting them
one more thing that this jack fruit when unripe can be cooked as a delicious spicy vegetable specially if you may find the baby jackfruits as the grown fibrous parts are lesser in that.
all you have to do is cut down small pieces then boil it for a few minutes before adding oil and spices to it with a little extra water to make a curry like consistency or appearance what ever you say.
the more the spice and green chillies more it tastes.
Interesting!!! I’ll have to try that! Thanks!
actually here in India you may find not hundreds but at – least 10 different ways to eat a jack fruit both ripe and unripe.
Holy camoley. That is incredible!
Also don’t throw the seeds after eating the ripe pulpy part.
wash them place them under sun for a whole day.
Peel the skin off the seeds.
Find a knife which can cut hard food items like this seed.
cut them into longitudinal section into as many parts as you can (I mean each single seed cut into many thin pieces)
Add some mustard oil or any other oil and then add the cut seeds into it fry it for some time, add a little salt to it.
and keep cooking occasionally pciking up pieces to check by chewing if they are fried perfectly or not. some pieces may seem burnt but they are just over heated and may still taste good.
your evening tea time snack is ready.
oh my gosh yum!! will do! you are just the jack fruit master 🙂
Haaa haaa. Sure. And what a designation.
👍👍👍👍👍😍❤️
So, of course I had to go look up jackfruit after watching your video, because I’m a total nerd like that 🤓. Did you know that they can grow up to 4 feet long! I loved your video, though! It looks like you have so much fun in your little kitchen! Thanks for sharing your culinary adventures! Trying new foods is always challenging for me, and being able to laugh about it makes it easier. I’ll be thinking of this video the next time I’m in my kitchen tackling something “new,” like mango lol.
Haha it was so delish! Woah! 4ft!?! That’s incredible! Oh good:) yes! Go for the mango! They’re amazing! Hugs and love xox

Jack fruit is known in some parts of the world as “bread fruit”. You can also fry it and it will have a very similar texture to toast 😉
So interesting!! I’ll have to try that next time! Thank you! Big hugs xox

Hi Caralyn,
The Fresh Baked crew out here in Cali bravely sampled the Jackfruit Nachos at Disneyland.
(I’m going to try and post the video here — my apologies if it doesn’t work. Scroll to the 1:28:00 mark to watch the jackfruit segment.)
