If you’re reading this, I’d like to welcome you and give you a hug.

Maybe you’re the parent or loved one of someone suffering with an eating disorder. Perhaps you’re in the throes of anorexia yourself. Maybe you think you may have the beginning stages of disordered eating. Or perhaps you’re on the journey to recovery.

Whatever has brought you here, I hope that through the story of my brokenness, and redemption through the Lord, you are able to find hope, encouragement, advice, healing, support, and comfort.

This blog chronicles my journey from severe anorexia to recovery, and every twist and turn along the way. The blog posts are meant to be read from beginning to end, as a book. (( Glorious Wounds is the Introduction.)) So I would suggest reading “up” — starting from my oldest post, and working backwards to the most recent. This is my first post.

IMG_8640

I must warn you that the beginning is very dark — intense, raw, and despairing. It is an uncensored view into my mind when I was deep in my anorexia. However, I chose to be vulnerable and share that utter brokenness — that wreckage — in order for you to truly grasp the gravity of the disease, and how sincerely meaningful freedom through Christ has been in my life.

I also hope that you’ll find the resources section of my blog helpful. If you or a loved one is suffering with disordered eating habits, please seek professional help.

With that being said, I am not a doctor. I’m not a therapist, dietician, counselor, psychiatrist, etc. I’m just a girl. Who had a severe case of anorexia. And who is journeying through recovery, one day at a time. I’m just sharing my story with the hopes that it will help even one person.

  3. Hey there, BBB,

Thank you for looking and liking at my blog. I’m new on WordPress and not finding my way around very well. I hope to come back and find out more about your blog and your journey.

I know a little about anorexia as I have a friend with it. He’s unusual – as that pronoun makes clear – but doing OK. It’s stacked on top of a whole load of other problems for him, too.

I wish you well, and thanks again.

  7. The Lord also delivered me from anorexia. It is truly amazing how much He can heal! Keep loving, trusting and fighting. Sometimes it is exhausting to fight the disordered perceptions and thinking but He is faithful. It has now been about 7 years since I started my recovery journey. I have two beautiful babies and sometimes during and after pregnancy I would struggle more with thoughts returning but I am able now to get back on track because of Jesus. I never truly made any lasting progress until He got ahold of me 🙂 Love and Hugs to you!

  8. Thank you for visiting my blog and enabling me to find you. What comes to mind after reading this first post is that in opening up, and allowing all to see your vulnerability and stuggle – in a sense you are ‘laying down your life for your brother.’
May they be a blessing to all, not only to those who need them, but to those who seek to understand.

        I meant it.
I don’t often have time to comment on things I read (I am on the final edit of book 4 in The Apostle John series – fiction) but your post resonated – there are so many damaged people in the world. I’ve been there, the characters in my seies of books all have their struggles. It’s part of our walk. Sharing the struggles helps and encourages those who need it. People who respond negatively – don’t need it, or don’t want to hear it.
God bless – hugs and love back at you. Now, back to work on that manuscript. My editor is waiting. Not only to edit it – but she is longing to know what happens next.

  10. First and foremost, thanks for liking one of my articles. And I think I am fortunate that you did, because your stories are sources of inspirations. I probably wouldn’t be able to read your articles from start to finish, but I know the little I read will be a potential form of incentive. May the Love of Christ continually abide with and in you. 12. Beebs, it’s me. I thought I’d stop by to pee. I mean, thank you so much from the bottom of my hell-filled heart. Your comment about the virtues of vulnerability on twitter has been twiddling like thumbs in my head ever since I read it. I want to thank you and advise that it may be wise to stop reading this now and block me…As Green Goblin would say, Now, you’ve really pissed me off! As cavalier as your comment on twitter, I have been given the assignment by a friend to inspect you thoroughly for any more such cavalier comments or perspectives shared to pollute the sum goodness of this world. If am allowed, I shall proceed. Otherwise, block me. I intend to go back to school and to make your blog platform my locker, my hallways, and my classroom. I intend to join the debate club along with all my classes at this school and refute everything you say, first and foremost your false virtual hugs and virtual love. From my calling you a “Jesus freak”, this is where we have come…I’m a very dedicated student, valedictorian of my class, twice state Academic Decathlon overall gold medalist. I don’t say this in any other way (prideful or otherwise…) other than to admit my dedication, my drive, and my persistence. Do block me now, because I will take article for article that you have written and refute every argument by way of assignment from my friend. I discussed your twitter comment with him, and this resolution is what came of it. You are my spider-man, and I am your Green Goblin. Can Spider-man come out to play? Remember, no matter how much you do for them, they will still hate you! You chose the way of the hero, and I the villain. Well, to each his own. Itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout. Down came the Goblin and took the spider out! I’m not saying you are evil for what you put on Twitter. I just call competition life’s sweetest treat, better than sex. You and me. This is gonna be, Beebs. Any questions of my virtues and vices, you can ask my friend. He will vouch for me. He’s already promised. He’s known me since we put our hands together in first grade Red Rover. Red Rover, Red Rover, send Beebs on over!

    1. Or, how about we join forces and take on the psychiatric and rehabilitative services of this world? Think how much we could destroy: Psychiatrists, Doctors, Counselors, Psychologists, Two-face Hypocritical Sycophants every last one of them. They prescribe what they would never choose to endure. How about it, Spider-(woman)? Are you in or are you out? The world will tremble while you decide. You know it. I know it. You’re a bad-ass, and you know it! It’s time to show it.

  15. Dear beautybeyondbones, Thanks for liking my blog Searching for GSOT and the post on Fundamentalism. Your posts are engaging, very well written. Your story seems to be one about how God’s will for your life and your own will become indistinguishable – and beautiful. Yet the world of science and medicine in which I grew up and have worked for many years often considers will to be an illusion. Not so! We need to hear and read more stories like yours (and from you). Fundamentalism is an inappropriate response to the challenge. Your words from the heart speak to the heart and awaken a yearning for a new kind of living.

  16. Hey there, thanks for visiting by my blog. I’ve had friends with eating disorders and seeing an experience not dissimilar to theirs written about so eloquently is wonderful. It takes courage to talk about this stuff (especially in such a raw and meaningful way) and combining it with religion is a new, interesting angle. Keep it up BBB! Believe in you 🙂

  17. Hi there… I am, as you know, rubenesque… part of that is because I often turned to food for comfort, due to my past… Comfort/emotional eater… I don’t claim to understand or know at all what your journey has been like…

I want you to know I will be praying for you…. You are incredibly loved by the maker of the universe! … How awesome is that?!…

I kept having to remind myself of that this last month as I came to terms with my sexuality…

He loves us all, just as we are, in all our brokenness, our weakness, our darkness…

    Blows my mind some days…

  25. Hi BBB! Thanks for visiting my blog and liking my post, “Postscript: Whither Turkey Now?” I had severe bulimia in my teens and twenties, which I finally recovered from. And my best friend from high school almost died from anorexia when we were in college. I visited her then in the hospital: she looked like someone from a concentration camp. 😦 Happily, she did recover, but it took a really long time and lots of medical and psychiatric treatment. I am so glad to read of your own recovery! I hope that you will read more of my blog. 🙂
