I’m writing this on Wednesday evening from my Greenwich Village apartment. There’s a constant wail of sirens and a drone of helicopters right outside my window, tending to the swarms of protesters and demonstrates that have taken to the streets of my NYC neighborhood.
The election results are still outstanding. And all anyone on the news is talking about is potential voter fraud, and tediously going through all the different state-combinations President Trump or Joe Biden needs in order to get to 270 electoral votes.

And, like you, I’m about ready to rip my hair out. I can’t take any more of the commentary. Just count the legal votes, and determine the winner. It doesn’t seem too difficult.
I’ve pretty much conceded that Joe Biden is going to win. And if somehow, Trump pulls out a miraculous victory, then this entire writing effort here tonight will find its way to the circular file before publication, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take. Because, as it appears right now, Biden is going to win this this thing by the skin of his veneers.

And, if like me, that has you highly concerned for the moral state of our country — for its protection of the sanctity of life, for the foreseeable future of what was once Trump’s booming economy that was uplifting all Americans, for the religious freedom we’ve been privileged to exercise, for the health of businesses – large and small, for the once thriving stock market and the financial security that brought to over 100 million of us, and for the personal liberties that are in grave jeopardy under a Biden (really Harris) administration — allow me to just say this: sometimes God allows us to hit rock bottom, in order for there to be extraordinary change.
And, sure, maybe that sounds dramatic, but truthfully, with the most radically far left senator – Kamala Harris – at the wheel, I truly do fear that we may never see the same America ever again. Because, many people believe, that three months into his term, Biden is going to come out and say that he has developed dementia and is no longer fit to serve. Enter Kamala “I’m speaking” Harris.

But I am here to tell you, that I am living proof that sometimes God allows us to hit rock bottom, in order for us to have a momentous transformation.
During my anorexia, I not only reached rock bottom, but the basement of rock bottom.
I went from a three-sport Varsity athlete on the Homecoming Court with a bright future in the drama department at USC, to an osteopenic, 78-pound shell of my former self. I had thrown away all my relationships, lost my hair, didn’t walk in my graduation, abused my body to literal skin and bone, and I found myself across the country at an inpatient treatment facility for three months.
You see, before my eating disorder, I was crippled with pride and vanity. I was the finalist in the Miss Teen Ohio pagaent, I was dating the captain of the football team, and I allowed myself to be defined by my looks and outward appearance, as much as I hate to admit that.

And in order to get through to me — through my stubbornness, through my inflated sense of self and importance — God literally had to strip it all away. Up to and including my mane of beautiful curly hair.
It was rock bottom. I had nothing left. Not even a shred of dignity, having had lied to every person in my life that I “didn’t have an eating disorder.”
Rock. Bottom.
Sometimes, God has to break us, in order to rebuild us in a way that — not only saves us from ourselves — but allows us to recognize the error of our ways, and in turn, sets us on the right path: His.

Is it pretty radical to say that a Biden/Harris administration could bring us to rock bottom? Yeah. But as I see it…it is very possible:
The tremendous headway that Trump made in the protection of unborn children in the womb will be completely reversed — and then some.

And truthfully, that is the greatest tragedy of all.

There will be dark days. Civil liberties — like the second amendment, our right to religious freedom, freedom of speech, etc — will be infringed. Many more people will hurt financially — (I mean, where has socialism ever worked?) We will hurt morally. We will hurt socially and spiritually. And as “woke” cancel culture becomes the mainstay, we will also hurt on a personal level.

But I have to trust that this is all part of God’s plan.

Do I wish that I didn’t have to go through that incredibly painful painful season where I lost literally everything to my anorexia? Sure. It was the hardest season of my life.
But I know that I am the woman I am today, precisely because I endured that trial.

When we carry our cross, we share in the suffering of Jesus, and therefore, become more like Him. And what a beautiful thing that is.
I can only hope and pray that this upcoming season of moral corruption and strife that I believe we will see in a Biden/Harris administration will be divinely used to bring about a change that is good and pleasing to God. That He will use it to raise new faithful leaders who will help transform our nation into one that recognizes the need to protect the innocent and vulnerable, and finds a newfound gratitude for the freedoms and liberties that we took for granted. Perhaps it will spur in the church an overwhelming desire to return to worship and bring people home to Jesus. And in that case, I guess that would be the greatest election outcome of all.

Thank you so much for being brave enough to say it. I live and work in a place that values “liberal” ideals. All opinions are important unless they are conservative. This election has been very isolating. One person asked me how Trump got so many votes. I said, maybe the people who support him fear openly doing so for fear of being ostracized. He thought for a moment and said, no that can’t be it. 🙄
Thank you.

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and, yes, we’re far apart politically. I voted for Biden and I’m happy it looks like he’s going to win. However, I’m also sad for the country. We’re incredibly divided and it seems like there’s deep, deep resentment and hatred on both sides right now. To be honest, I was afraid of Trump, much like you seem to be afraid of Biden.
I’m really hoping there can be some unity and healing in the future. I always believed that politics was about compromise. None of us are ever totally going to get everything we want. For example, abortion seems like an issue that’s really important to you, while I don’t think about it much. On the flip side, I think a lot about the threat of white supremacist groups and was actually very frightened by Trump, especially by the way he seemed to align himself with groups like the Proud Boys and others.
I honestly don’t know what the answer to all this is. But I do know that we can’t have a functioning democracy if we continue to hate each other this much. I don’t think Biden is stealing this election, but then again, I don’t think Trump stole the election in 2016. For the Democrats who are upset about the “Stop the Steal” stuff, they should remember that they tried to delegitimize Trump’s win four years ago just as much.
What this tells me is that our country is very sick right now, and it’s sad. If we can’t even agree that our elections are free and fair, if we can’t even agree that COVID-19 is a threat and actually exists, then I don’t know where we stand. I get upset when I read your blog sometimes, but it at least exposes me to differing views. When I read, I try to listen and understand. I think we all need to take a deep breath, do a little prayer and meditation, maybe eat a meal together, and try to actually listen to each other. We’ll probably find out we have a lot more in common with each other than we may have thought!

OH, my goodness! I echo every, single one of your words here. A friend sent me the link to your post this morning, and I was so happy to come here and “meet” you. To say I am sick in heart over what just happened is putting it mildly. I canNOT believe Biden, or as you said so accurately, Harris, will be our president. How can this be? I will forever believe the election was stolen from our great President Trump, and this is fraud in its most blatant, horrific form. Only GOD is bigger than this. I will always believe that President Trump was anointed and ordained by God for such a time as this, and I will always wrestle with why God didn’t allow him to have a second term. You are so right – all the good he did will be undone and then even more evil. I thought God’s people had humbled themselves, prayed, sought His face, and turned from their wicked ways, but evidently we didn’t humble ourselves enough. I still discern so much sin in the ranks of Christianity, and maybe that is why God is humbling us more – if we won’t humble of our own accord, He will humble us – as you said, bring us to rock bottom. I thought we were there, but evidently not. THANK YOU for speaking the truth here and for so eloquently saying what is on so many of our hearts right now. God bless you!

I hear you, Caralyn. I also pray for your safety where you’re living in NYC. While I think we’ll be still okay if Biden wins, I remain hopeful that Trump will prevail after all the voter fraud and illegal ballots are uncovered. We definitely have massive voter fraud here in Wisconsin. Some voting districts reported 105% of registered voters voting! We had an over 90% turnout, which is ridiculously unrealistic. Thousands of dead people miraculously cast mail-in ballots. And this is just one state! We probably won’t know who won before January as it’s going with all the legal battles in several states. Anyone declaring victory right now runs the risk of having it retracted later. One positive note on all of this is that all the voter fraud that’s been going on for decades will likely get exposed and, hopefully, be reformed.
But regardless of who wins POTUS, I think the Senate and Supreme Court will keep our country from totally going down the tubes in the next four years. We need to keep the faith and pray for our nation. Blessings.

Hello. You are welcome to your own opinion as well as this is your platform. However, I’m confused of what country you all have been living in these past 4 years. I stopped reading after I read Trump brought this country together…when? God calls us to have compassion for each other. Yet, this man has NONE. I will pray for you and others on this blog. We need to accept God’s will. Period. Regardless of who is in office, I look to God as my helper. If everything was going Trump’s way, you would be celebrating. Yet, because the American people are tired and have had enough of what has been going on these past 4 years, it’s now Biden’s fault and the news station. The Bible is clear, since you brought religion into it. Some people are just blinded.

Hi Ayesha, I appreciate you joining the dialogue and sharing your thoughts. The America of the past four years I was referring to was one with incredible job creation and a booming economy, soaring stock market, and the greatest headway in pro-life legislature of any presidency. The most recent economic ramifications of COVID-19 and the rise of BLM rioting has torn this country apart, yes. But I do not believe that was President Trump’s doing. I too, look to God as my helper. He is all of our helper. And I pray that no matter what the future, He will help our nation heal, and I sincerely look forward to that day. Thank you so much for stopping by. Hugs and love xox

God does not play politics, friend. Jesus did say: “Give to Caeser what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God.” God certainly does not have a favourite presidential candidate, especially when both are so blatantly evil. You have lost me here. Salvation or ruin will not come from whoever wins this presidency.
You have your political opinion, but please, leave God, the God of ALL people, out of it. God, the God of ALL people, does not have a political agenda. Do not use the name of the Lord in vain. Do not use the name of the Lord to justify evil. Do not use God to push your politics, whatever they may be. Do not SPEAK for God… who are any of us to determine what His perspective might be? This is blasphemous and arrogant. To think that God sides with you politically must require some incredible arrogance.
God is not interested in your politics. Politics are of this world, not of his Kingdom. We must not worship anyone but God, because every leader is flawed, because they are HUMAN. You will not find your salvation in Trump or Biden or Kanye. Your salvation is not tied to politics. Focus on the real Kingdom instead of following flawed men on earth who seek nothing but their own misguided glory.
You are a smart woman. But this post has lost me because using God for politics is the way evil has operated throughout history. Shouldn’t we all know better by now?

You’re right about that, Marian, God does not play politics! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. There certainly are shortfalls on both sides of the aisle. I have expressed my opinion on abortion, and a I cannot in good conscience vote for a candidate that supports abortion. That issue, i DO believe that God takes a firm stand on. So in essence, I am voting for a platform, not a person. Thanks for joining the dialogue. Hugs and love xox

I have been convinced for a while that both candidates only had the power to steer the ship downward for exactly the reason you state here. America’s pride in her own power and her trust in her own strength must be laid low so that through her repentance and God’s grace the church may once again become the Kingdom example it needs to be.

Biden and Harris represent harbingers of “moral corruption and strife” to you? And Harris is the furthest left member of Congress…
I really don’t think you’re paying attention to what’s going on so much as you’re chugging The Juice.
FWIW, if you want examples of far left members of Congress, look at Bernie or NYC’s very own AOC. The most left thing about Harris is the state she represents. (Left Coast/Best Coast…woo!)
If you want examples of moral corruption…I dunno, pick a Trump. Any Trump. Or look at any GOP Senator who was in office during McConnell’s blockade of Merrick Garland for SCOTUS. Then look at how they blithely ignored their own words when they assured 2016 America that they’d behave exactly the same with a GOP president. Here we are in 2020 and they may as all be wearing signs that say “I’m a big, fat liar” – because that whole pants on fire thing just seems too dangerous. For that matter, let’s just make them signs that say they’re racists, too, because at the core I truly believe that’s at the root of those actions. My evidence? Trump took office on a campaign of undoing as much of what Obama accomplished in his two terms while still waving his Birther Movement flag.
The sheer hypocrisy of religion is one thing. The picking and choosing which parts of the Bible are important depending on how it impacts the reader personally. But the way allegedly religious folk can just overlook the lying, corrupt and downright inhumane actions of the GOP is almost as surprising as their ability to forget how Jesus taught us to take care of the least among us – y’know by, like giving them healthcare? – or that Jesus was a Black man.
Actually, now I get it. The Religious Wrong and the GOP are perfect pals. Just a bunch of liars and hypocrites enabling each other’s delusions of goodness.
It makes me really sad to see people under such a veil of obliviousness.

Well! You are a source of great wisdom and humanity when it comes to recovery, but on politics your perspective looks delusional from here. We have watched this election in disbelief that anyone could spend more than five minutes before concluding that Trump is a dangerous self absorbed narcissist, who trades on division and hate. That almost half of the USA have voted for him causes despair about the moral state of your country (not that we are in any better state with another liar in charge). The old ‘socialist’ label comes out again when Biden and Harris are a million miles from any such agenda. And another big song and dance about ‘pro life’ for a president who has no interest in saving the lives of the poor, who has no interest in the millions of lives that will be lost and ruined by global warming, who takes no care for the lives of people put at risk by his erratic and dangerous foreign policy whims. The suggestion that your liberties are at risk from Biden et al is ludicrous – contrasted with a president who risks the health of democracy to meet his personal needs, who thinks liberty means evading taxes and owning guns and maximising profits at the expense of the less advantaged, who is careless of the lives of black Americans put in danger by his rhetoric etc etc., and incidentally, your brilliantly successful “Trump” economy is in truth a consequence of Obama since Trump hasn’t been there long enough to make a real difference (until his disastrous and anti-life handling of coronavirus). Sorry, to come on strong about this but from here, there is a huge sigh of relief that Biden is about to win and relief that the USA might now recover some moral authority in the world.

Whether on a societal or personal level the concept of “rock bottom” means different things based on our assumptions about what is desirable or not… I would say that the past four years has been rock bottom for our nation’s political discourse. But, I can see that you see rock bottom coming. I’m sure that we can be posting our different positions… but I believe in relationships and free-will, so I see more connecting us that dividing us. Hi, reading your blog was quite refreshing and although I am an atheist, a Biden supporter and an advocate for the pro-choice stance, I like listening to what the other side has to say. I do believe that America is a diverse country with diverse opinions and that allowing employers to discriminate under the guise of ‘religious freedom’ is not equality. Not everybody in America is a conservative and a Christian. We have so many diverse faiths and people like me who do not have faith at all. And secondly, granting people the right to abortion doesn’t stop you from having a child or continuing your pro-life beliefs. It just gives a choice to people who believe differently. I also do not believe that Trump’s handling of the coronavirus was adequate. His actions to repeal Obamacare took away affordable healthcare for millions of Americans. I know that no politician is perfect because they all are human. And I will definetly not stop supporting you because as an anorexic person who weighs 38 kilos, you inspire me. I am sorry Caralyn I disagree with you; I and a majority of Canadians. are relieved that Biden won. In Canada Bernie Sanders is not so radical; he would be considered center left. We are not at “rock bottom not even close”. Canada is ranked the #1 country in the world in 2019 for Quality of Life. We have also been ranked as the third best country in the world. The US is way down below 25th in both this rankings. Socialism is NOT a bad word in Canada. We care about the well being of our fellow citizens and fully expect our governments to put the common good above corporate profits and the search for wealth. Canada is a Christian County [In the 2011 census, 39 per cent of Canadians identified themselves as Roman Catholic and 27 per cent as Protestant.] I can’t but note that Pope Frances, inserting himself into the Republican presidential race, suggested that Donald J. Trump “is not Christian” because of the harshness of his campaign promises to deport more immigrants and force Mexico to pay for a wall along the border. He said further, “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” Francis said when a reporter asked him about Mr. Trump.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this! It sounds like Canada has a lot of great things going for them! I did not know that about the Pope’s words. I am shocked that he inserted himself into political discourse! Wow. I appreciate you stopping by. Hugs and love xox

Love! Love! Love this post!! There is a huge circle of warriors God has purposefully prepped for this time. You, for certain, are one of them! Absolutely agree in your words. We’ve been there! We know! The country will need to hit rock bottom. See how wayward their lives have truly been. Go through their own dark nights of the soul. But, in the end, rise with their spirits fully in tact to take this country back!! The road to getting there is the unknown

I missed this one. I’ve been hiding from Facebook and Instagram for a week, but I’ve still been just as active on WordPress, so I don’t know how I missed it… anyway, this is really good. Thank you for being brutally honest, as always.

It is so interesting to read and hear the reaction of American and world citizens to the election of the Biden-Harris ticket. I have heard many say we had already hit rock bottom during Donald Trump’s presidency: morally, environmentally, in civility, in international relations, in personal pride, with immigration, trust in government, etc. I am sympathetic to some of these arguments, having found much of our president’s conduct deplorable. Above all, however, I acknowledge the utter complexity of these issues. Many of us tend to feel we have hit rock bottom when society moves away from our personal beliefs. Is it not true to say that every leader has the potential to both exalt and to debase? And perhaps even at the same time? President-elect Biden’s position on abortion is concerning to conservatives, while his stance on other issues may be encouraging to conservatives. The mix of politics, pride, power, and ideology is always complex and provoking. Whatever Biden’s liberal leanings, I hope to see the return of civility, of cooperation, and of general human respect. Best wishes for navigating this new chapter in our country’s history. I know I need it!

“Sometimes God allows us to hit rock bottom, in order for there to be extraordinary change.”… Absolute truth. When we are forced on our knees, and the only vantage point, is a point of prayer, that’s when ture lasting change starts happening.

Great post and absolutely true! While I believe the prophets speaking victory for Trump, I also believe that God could allow Biden to win to shake us (the church and the people) to the core even more deeply than this year has. We can be a stubborn people, and God loves us enough to allow the most difficult situations to turn us around. Thank you for sharing your story. You have a great testimony that is helpful and encouraging to so many, and you are a wise woman.

You are right. Sometimes we have to be at the bottom of the pit for us to see Jesus. Jesus loves us, and he wants what is best for us.

Ah, from the heart. I love reading blogs like this. You are scared. I am scared and I live thousands of miles away. The American election spilled across into every European country with a culture. In my own beautiful country of England the media has attempted to make every white person feel ashamed of their skin. Violence towards white people has increased to never previously known levels and the whole country is poised for terror attacks. I’m pagan and as such do not believe in your god and demons but I know a bad thing when I feel it. Using race to divide was the lowest move you could make in politics. I will never forgive the left for this move.

Wow! Great perspective. This was exactly what I thought when Trudeau won in my country (Canada) and won again. I see a fellow Canadian in the comment section, saying we haven’t hit rock bottom in Canada. No. Not yet. But I don’t think we’ve ever had worse leadership. Morally, we’re plummeting. We’ve been plummeting for a long time in order to elect a man who stood on nothing but abortion, an even more radical gay rights agenda, and legalizing pot. That was all the platform he had. (That and the budget would balance itself.) Rock bottom is the book of Revelation, so I think we’ve got a ways to go. But we’re in trouble. We’ve lost a lot of rights in my country. Trudeau has trampled all over our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, essentially legislating away our constitutionally-guaranteed rights of freedom of speech and religion. I would say the fellow Canadian in the comment section has been lulled to sleep. Not very well-informed at what’s really going on. We’re all in for a rude awakening. I wouldn’t want to live in this world if I didn’t know God was still in control.

Hello BBB, I laughed at the same line as the previous poster — but there was so much else in there and I just want to thank you for courageously sharing parts of your story. However old it makes me sound, I am so grateful for younger people writing eloquently about their faith, struggles, losses and our Big God. That is so often my theme…so much bigger than we think. Able to turn around any situation where people turn around from their own self-help and realize when they can’t, God can. You’re a great writer and doing a great job! Thanks for liking a post of mine too 🙂 Sisters in Christ!
