Cardi B – Woman of the Year???

Well well well. How are we doing, friends?

Let’s do a quick temperature check…because…after last Thursday’s post…yowza. That comments section was full of more pointed negative comments directed at me, personally…good golly.

So let’s just take a deep breath. Everyone is welcome here. All opinions, and thoughts and beliefs are respected.

I am not going to apologize for holding my beliefs, just as I wouldn’t expect you to, either. And, as many people thought my remarks were “harsh” or “ageist,” and that I “disappointed them,” I would just like to invite you to examine the tone you read it with in your mind. Because my intended tone was one of compassion, not disrespect. And the remarks that were misconstrued as ageist, were actually coming from a place of genuine concern for the health of our President….not age.

Anyway. That’s all the lip service I’m going to give to -quote-unquote- “defending my character…” I’m sorry if I offended you, truly. This is who I am. Now, onto tonight’s post.

Which…again, may ruffle some feathers…which again, I am ready for.

Cardi B.

If you’ve never heard of her…well, tonight is going to be a bit of, shall we say…an education.

She was named Billboard’s Woman of the Year. And that…is egregious.

Not because of her musical ability, or work ethic. But because of what she represents, and the deplorable message she’s sending to young women, disguised as “female empowerment.”

This is going to get uncomfortable. And just a fair warning, things are going to get a little…”R-rated.”

Cardi B was made famous by her recent song, “WAP.”

What is “WAP?” you may be asking?

Well, it’s an acronym. For female genitalia in the state of sexual arousal.

“Wet A** P****”

Believe me, I was as uncomfortable typing that out as you are reading it right now.

But that song is why Cardi B was named Woman of the Year.

Cardi B – who’s song, WAP, completely objectifies women, reducing their worth to literally their genitalia. Who’s lyrics glorify prostitution, and violent sexual degradation, and equates a woman’s sexual promiscuity with liberation.

But the kicker is that this vulgar garbage is being celebrated as the anthem for female empowerment.

Female empowerment: “I don’t cook, I don’t clean. But let me tell you how I got this ring.”

Cardi B, ladies and gentlemen. Cardi B.

The same Cardi B who, at the Grammy’s, performed WAP live, and during it, simulated explicit lesbian sexual acts during primetime on network television.

But I’m not here to talk about or judge Cardi B, herself.

The Good Lord knows I have no room to judge, as my past is full of a laundry list of sins, 12 miles long.

How she chooses to live her life is between she and God. And I wish her the best. Truly. I have nothing against her.

What I do take issue with, it the detrimental effect that this “WAP-culture” has had on our society. And I was going to say “on young people” –– but that would be an unfair limitation, because the impact of “Cardi-culture” can be felt by people as young as 10, to my age, all the way to the Donald Trumps of the world.

It’s the newest wave of feminism. This “celebration” of a fast life where sex has become transactional, meaningless and what’s expected when you meet up with that guy you just met on a dating app. (We’re the generation that killed romance, remember?)

What message are we sending to our impressionable young girls? She’s right on the cusp of entering womanhood, and we’re telling her that her worth and value and dignity are determined by her genitals — her WAP — and that her sexual conquests are going to be the most important achievements she earns.

Where have we gone so terribly, terribly wrong?

And liberal feminists are completely on board. After all, it was the invention of the birth control pill back in the 1960’s that birthed the new wave of feminism and brought about the sexual revolution.

But how are we celebrating the creator of this WAP culture with “Woman of the Year?”

Seriously? Are they joking? Is this some kind of ironic stunt? Because when you look at how this song has actually degraded women — not just lyrically, but it real life…it is ludicrous.

Hookup culture. Meaningless relationships that leave women feeling worthless and used. And — let’s call it like it is: this song normalized rape culture.

Rape culture: which blames the rape on the victim as the instigator. Rape culture: which implies that a woman is asking for it by what she’s wearing or how she’s dancing.

This song is glorifying that.

Lock. Stock. And Barrel.

Because it communicates that, yes…a woman wants to be beaten, tied up, used sexually and it gives the “all clear” to men who wish to fornicate without consent.

We have completely forgotten where we came from.

We’ve thoroughly forgotten who we are.

We’ve utterly abandoned how God defines us, and what it truly means to be a woman.

Let us remember Proverbs 31, and how it describes that of a noble woman more valuable “than rubies.”

“She is clothed with strength and dignity…She speaks with wisdom…Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

It celebrates her work ethic. How she provides for her family and conducts smart business affairs. She has a family and a husband and they are blessed by her strength and feminine power.

Pope John Paul II praises the feminine genius, saluting all the gifts that make us uniquely equipped to bring our distinctly feminine qualities into whatever we do.

Female Empowerment is not how many men we can rack up on our “sexual roster.” Actually the exact opposite, because when all is said and done, that will leave a woman feeling nothing more than empty and powerLESS.

True Female Empowerment is actually the spiritual and moral strength of a woman who harnesses her feminine genius to battle evil and work for good, while upholding humanity.

An empowered female recognizes her gift of self. Her gift of a willing spirit – saying YES to life, to God, to the life He has planned for her as the Crown of Creation.

An empowered female is sensitive to others’ needs, and generously exercises compassion, empathy, love and charity.

A truly empowered female knows that her worth is far greater than her bedroom performance. But rather, that she is a daughter of God, created on purpose, for a purpose. And nothing can diminish that inherent value and dignity.

Not an eating disorder. Not any stain on your past. Not even composing a song about WAPs.

The dignity and value of a woman cannot be added to or taken away. Because it is in every fiber of our being, as God’s creation.

Imagine if that was the message we were sending to young women, instead of this twisted filth comprised in WAP.

What a world that would be.

Who would YOU bestow with the honor of Woman of the Year?

“This is what the Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.” Ez 37:5

  3. Oh. How. Awful. Your comments brought tears to my eyes and chills down my spine. Thanks (unfortunately) for educating us on this atrocity. Scriptures have warned us over and over about those who call evil good (see Isaiah 5:20-21). May God have mercy on our nation for our willing descent into these depths, and may women wake up and see the abominable fate they are gullibly accepting. Let’s hope that Cardi B starts to lose fans and money over all this and wakes up, too. You have spoken the truth, and God’s truth is what will set people free.

Thanks for the new edition of my dictionary, it’s odd, words do matter, but the context should always be understood, music is often used by many as a sign of rebellion, nothing more, and given the state of the planet and the useless promises uttered by one leader after another, as they do, it’s proper for people who are young to distrust them, Jesus even makes the point too, you might enjoy what you hear, but what do you make of their actions afterwards.
stay safe in this odd world, thanks for the post, amen

  7. Beautifully written, Caralyn! I look at the photo of Mother Theresa and see true beauty in her love and charity. Of course, she may not have the “modern beauty” we are used to in Hollywood, but the beauty of her heart is eternal. I hope that Cardi B, a physically beautiful woman by Hollywood’s standards, will one day know Jesus and also cultivate a heart of true beauty found in His Word. And this is also a convicting reminder for me to remember to pursue the eternal qualities of a gentle, quiet, feminine, spirit so precious to God.

  8. At a time when psychologists and experts in addiction disorders are literally screaming the warning that the unchecked spread of porn is now a serious mental and emotional health issue, the very last thing society needs is to glorify women who encourage participation in the scourge that is pornography! As you put so well, nothing is more demeaning and detrimental to the advance of women’s rights than to tell them only their sexuality defines their worth. May everyone revolt against this horrible trend and shame those like Cardi B who are making money from propagating filth.

  9. You find American pop culture gross, no news there. You aren’t fond of Blacks — that’s what I’ve seen from you before.

As to your take on women and sex, it’s interesting that it’s the role prescribed by conservative men you find so appealing. Especially because you don’t live that life — no family, husband, or kids.
As you say you are entitled to your opinion — entitled.

For a writer who thinks your posts are misread and people miss what you’re saying, well, that’s your fault. Perhaps you need to reread before posting and learn to read between the lines. You know hermeneutics.

So who has those feelings when they sleep around? I’m betting most. Who will admit it in this culture and not toe the party line? Most everyone.

I’d heard of Cardi B and WAP, but didn’t know anything about her or that acronym. I really feel like the world has passed me by. Like when I had to ask you what “OG” meant! 😊 It’s scary to see just how depraved it’s all getting.

THANK YOU for having the courage after last week’s attacks to speak truth! I know you have your way of dealing it, but it’s a shame it happens anyway. Then again, didn’t Jesus say to expect the world’s hate because of Him? You’re obviously on the right track!

  16. Thank you for speaking out about this! Absolutely agree with you, and one does not need to be religious to see that current glorification of female sexuality to the point of limiting all other female strengths is wrong. The long term cultural impact of such approach is very harmful because, as you rightfully put, the emphasis is on looks and sexuality rather than any personality characteristics, intelligence or contribution/value to the society. Thanks for highlighting the issue!

Well, when disparate worldview circles overlap. It’s such an awesome reminder of the old chestnuts that some politicians will trot out, that there’s more that unites us than divides us – which I truly believe.
Today, our thought overlap was about rape culture. I completely agree with your assertion that Cardi is no one that should be held up as such a high example of what it is to be a woman or person of the year. In my opinion, this designation is simply pandering for readers. I’ve heard WAP exactly once and thought, “What is this drivel?”, but aside from not appreciating her talent, I also find the manner in which she comports herself to fail such a lofty title as Woman of the Year. What example is she setting for young people? In addition to the lackluster examples you enumerated, I’d add infantilizing women. The way she talks is childish. Saying a woman that sexualizes childishness is problematic on so many levels. Not only does it empower predators like Matt Gaetz, it encourages younger women to seek out adult behaviors that they most likely aren’t anywhere near ready for, emotionally.
It’s a terrible and dangerous set of values to celebrate.
On my blog, today’s rape culture entry had to do with people being upset at a change in the ending to the Snow White ride. Instead of the evil Queen dying at the end, it ends with the kiss of Prince Charming waking Snow White from her charmed slumber.
The issue? Insane people are calling it non-consensual. 🤦🏽

Keep doing what you’re doing-some of us love it and support it with the same perspective and heart. I say this to all, judging is not correction; judging is telling someone where they’re going for what they are doing. If judging was correction and correction was wrong, why do we discipline our kids, dispute tickets and illegitimate bills, or a cold plate of food that was supposed to be warm? Judging is wrong, but correction is Godly as it says, “Blows and wounds cleanse evil and beatings purge the inrmost man” Proverbs 20:30. Be blessed my lady!

Rape culture: which implies that a woman is asking for it by what she’s wearing or how she’s dancing is something we all should be talking about and until we do, we are doomed to keep objectifying women. Thank you so much for your courage to speak your truth.

  27. Thanks for writing this. The woman and her culture are disgusting. The Libs have gone off the deep end. These people are nuts and need to be brought to justice. She and hers are sick and wrong.

  29. Absolutely!! My Grandmothers were the women deserving of an award- one was a missionary in Africa and one successfully raised 3 Christian children right during the depression while losing one son to leukemia and enduring an alcoholic, violently abusive husband- and both have their reward in Heaven now, which is the only reward worth anything really. I so agree! Love you as always, beautiful friend. Hugs!XO😃❤

  30. The measure of debauchery of society is not the real measure of how far from God as a whole we are. Yes, cardi openly shows who she is. Effectively anyone who shows all of the best characteristics of Christianity, may at one point hear the words “depart from me, I never knew you”. Perhaps cardi for all of her sexuality, could be closer to finding salvation than you or me being born into churches but not being being born again. We are to be a light to a world of darkness, when you light up a room that has not been cleaned, should you be surprised to find it dirty? If a rooms light is dimmed or gone out, how can it become cleaned? Salt is good but when it loses its flavor should it not be cast out like it has in the past? If one wants to see change in the world it first starts with God’s own people, whether the Jew first, the early church, the Catholic Church or the protestant church. If you follow history you know God revives generations and the light slowly fades as people walk away from truth and relationship for tradition and a safe way not to contend with their own sins. So if you are upset by Cardi’s conduct I guarantee god is too. However, we know from scriptures where this world has been and where it goes.

      1. Amen. I was reading James, it is good to know right from wrong in others so that we don’t follow into the same things, however it is better to call out ourselves first and foremost so that we can be that light. We can go through life upset by all of the right things which we should be upset by and forget the truth that our own unrighteousness is as deadly with out his grace and mercy. This is the good news. I think that people can not abstain from judgement because God has placed his laws on our hearts, and to love God with all our hearts we need his undeserving forgiveness and to love others we must forgive others in the same way.
Now that doesn’t mean you are wrong in knowing right from wrong nor wrong to discuss things as the world tells us it is wrong. There is a balance 😊

  31. I enjoy reading your articles. Can’t say I read them all due to the tempo of other obligations. I seldom make comments on anyone’s articles because I have a difficult time reducing comments to accommodate the bumper sticker mentality. If any want to know what is going on you must read history. Of course all this has “last days” written all over it but we’ll put that aside at present because those who love God and follow His teachings already know we are in the last days. Let’s talk about days past. In the early 30’s the leadership of the new Germany needed to create a super-race; a race that would do their bidding without thought or conscience. One of the 1st steps was to break down the moral fiber of the social order. Young men and women, who were raised with a moral structure, were encouraged to set that aside and enjoy the body’s fruits; promiscuity was the order of the day. Children were placed in government controlled schools and taught the same and these children grew up 10 years later to report their parents for dissident behavior and were proud of their actions when their parents were carted away to re-education camps. These same children, who were taught to set aside morality, worked to destroy a culture and willingly participated in genocide. Read the history of Nazi Germany of the 30’s and 40’s and then read passages of Daniel, Isaiah and Revelation… the 1st step is to remove the moral foundation. Cardi B is playing her part. What does it say about a society that grants woman of the year to a person who sings a song about rape culture and the degradation of our sons and daughters. The hatred that Satan has for use is no longer hidden and orchestrated from a dark corner, but paraded under the spotlight and our society applauds it. Isaiah 5:20

    1. Hi Steve, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. You’re right – the end days indeed. Very terrifying to read about that time. WOW – you put that so powerfully about the enemy. you’re absolutly right – praded under the spotlight, and society is absolutely applauding it and worshiping it. thank you again for this powerful response! and thank you for your readershiP! 32. It is how you think. And how you think is how you will act. Cardi B is just the present-day representation of the representations of the past. Even in the bible. Other than hunger and the drive to survive, sex is the strongest drive of nature. To keep it alive and thriving, many will exploit it to their benefit. It is only the exploitation that is wrong. Nature is not. God made us who we are: sexual beings and all. No Cardi B does not represent the empowerment of women and the female gender. When you see such, the finger always points to the left.
