Cardi B – Woman of the Year???

Well well well. How are we doing, friends?

Let’s do a quick temperature check…because…after last Thursday’s post…yowza. That comments section was full of more pointed negative comments directed at me, personally…good golly.

So let’s just take a deep breath. Everyone is welcome here. All opinions, and thoughts and beliefs are respected.

I am not going to apologize for holding my beliefs, just as I wouldn’t expect you to, either. And, as many people thought my remarks were “harsh” or “ageist,” and that I “disappointed them,” I would just like to invite you to examine the tone you read it with in your mind. Because my intended tone was one of compassion, not disrespect. And the remarks that were misconstrued as ageist, were actually coming from a place of genuine concern for the health of our President….not age.

Anyway. That’s all the lip service I’m going to give to -quote-unquote- “defending my character…” I’m sorry if I offended you, truly. This is who I am. Now, onto tonight’s post.

Which…again, may ruffle some feathers…which again, I am ready for.

Cardi B.

If you’ve never heard of her…well, tonight is going to be a bit of, shall we say…an education.

She was named Billboard’s Woman of the Year. And that…is egregious.

Not because of her musical ability, or work ethic. But because of what she represents, and the deplorable message she’s sending to young women, disguised as “female empowerment.”

This is going to get uncomfortable. And just a fair warning, things are going to get a little…”R-rated.”

Cardi B was made famous by her recent song, “WAP.”

What is “WAP?” you may be asking?

Well, it’s an acronym. For female genitalia in the state of sexual arousal.

“Wet A** P****”

Believe me, I was as uncomfortable typing that out as you are reading it right now.

But that song is why Cardi B was named Woman of the Year.

Cardi B – who’s song, WAP, completely objectifies women, reducing their worth to literally their genitalia. Who’s lyrics glorify prostitution, and violent sexual degradation, and equates a woman’s sexual promiscuity with liberation.

But the kicker is that this vulgar garbage is being celebrated as the anthem for female empowerment.

Female empowerment: “I don’t cook, I don’t clean. But let me tell you how I got this ring.”

Cardi B, ladies and gentlemen. Cardi B.

The same Cardi B who, at the Grammy’s, performed WAP live, and during it, simulated explicit lesbian sexual acts during primetime on network television.

But I’m not here to talk about or judge Cardi B, herself.

The Good Lord knows I have no room to judge, as my past is full of a laundry list of sins, 12 miles long.

How she chooses to live her life is between she and God. And I wish her the best. Truly. I have nothing against her.

What I do take issue with, it the detrimental effect that this “WAP-culture” has had on our society. And I was going to say “on young people” –– but that would be an unfair limitation, because the impact of “Cardi-culture” can be felt by people as young as 10, to my age, all the way to the Donald Trumps of the world.

It’s the newest wave of feminism. This “celebration” of a fast life where sex has become transactional, meaningless and what’s expected when you meet up with that guy you just met on a dating app. (We’re the generation that killed romance, remember?)

What message are we sending to our impressionable young girls? She’s right on the cusp of entering womanhood, and we’re telling her that her worth and value and dignity are determined by her genitals — her WAP — and that her sexual conquests are going to be the most important achievements she earns.

Where have we gone so terribly, terribly wrong?

And liberal feminists are completely on board. After all, it was the invention of the birth control pill back in the 1960’s that birthed the new wave of feminism and brought about the sexual revolution.

But how are we celebrating the creator of this WAP culture with “Woman of the Year?”

Seriously? Are they joking? Is this some kind of ironic stunt? Because when you look at how this song has actually degraded women — not just lyrically, but it real life…it is ludicrous.

Hookup culture. Meaningless relationships that leave women feeling worthless and used. And — let’s call it like it is: this song normalized rape culture.

Rape culture: which blames the rape on the victim as the instigator. Rape culture: which implies that a woman is asking for it by what she’s wearing or how she’s dancing.

This song is glorifying that.

Lock. Stock. And Barrel.

Because it communicates that, yes…a woman wants to be beaten, tied up, used sexually and it gives the “all clear” to men who wish to fornicate without consent.

We have completely forgotten where we came from.

We’ve thoroughly forgotten who we are.

We’ve utterly abandoned how God defines us, and what it truly means to be a woman.

Let us remember Proverbs 31, and how it describes that of a noble woman more valuable “than rubies.”

“She is clothed with strength and dignity…She speaks with wisdom…Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

It celebrates her work ethic. How she provides for her family and conducts smart business affairs. She has a family and a husband and they are blessed by her strength and feminine power.

Pope John Paul II praises the feminine genius, saluting all the gifts that make us uniquely equipped to bring our distinctly feminine qualities into whatever we do.

Female Empowerment is not how many men we can rack up on our “sexual roster.” Actually the exact opposite, because when all is said and done, that will leave a woman feeling nothing more than empty and powerLESS.

True Female Empowerment is actually the spiritual and moral strength of a woman who harnesses her feminine genius to battle evil and work for good, while upholding humanity.

An empowered female recognizes her gift of self. Her gift of a willing spirit – saying YES to life, to God, to the life He has planned for her as the Crown of Creation.

An empowered female is sensitive to others’ needs, and generously exercises compassion, empathy, love and charity.

A truly empowered female knows that her worth is far greater than her bedroom performance. But rather, that she is a daughter of God, created on purpose, for a purpose. And nothing can diminish that inherent value and dignity.

Not an eating disorder. Not any stain on your past. Not even composing a song about WAPs.

The dignity and value of a woman cannot be added to or taken away. Because it is in every fiber of our being, as God’s creation.

Imagine if that was the message we were sending to young women, instead of this twisted filth comprised in WAP.

What a world that would be.

Who would YOU bestow with the honor of Woman of the Year?

“This is what the Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.” Ez 37:5

  1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I’m not one to get involved in politics, but I read your last post as well and felt that the backlash was uncalled for; people can be so brutal online. As for this post, I don’t follow pop culture at all, so I don’t listen to Cardi B, nor did I have any idea that she was nominated for Woman of the Year. How sad. It’s depressing to witness the moral decay and degradation of our society. May we pray over the future of our nation.

Hope you are doing well and taking care of yourself!

  2. “Woke” culture for you 🤷🏻‍♀️ Previously some amazing women won this award, REAL empowerment, with some very notable work ethic. It’s very annoying to see how these awards Are now just handed to anyone who sings about their ‘WAP” and call it female empowerment 😂 the meaning of “feminism” has drastically changed over the last decade, the suffragettes are turning in their grave. I used to be an advocate for feminism but in the last two years I realised it’s no longer about helping women, but it’s about WAPs and sleeping with a 100 people and saying “if men are allowed I’m allowed”. I don’t have a problem with Cardi B she achieved amazing things and worked her way to the top, but this, just no.

Getting back to the issue at hand, I couldn’t agree with you more. More to the fact that the ones that are more targeted by this current wave of liberal ideology are children. They are targeting the next generation with all of this; creating a society much more confused and vulnerable to be molded and controlled by the political elite.

  4. You’re right. Sex must be placed in the context of a loving relationship; anything else is destructive.
As regards ‘Woman of the Year’ I can’t help wondering whether such a title is sensible. The people who influence young women deeply are those close to them, starting with their mom. There should be many ‘Women of the year’. Mine would be a nurse who, early in the epidemic transferred to an emergency hospital in London, and worked there for months, risking her life for others. I was so glad and relieved when she came through it unscathed.

  6. Hey, Caralyn!

Thank you for the article again, my dear friend. I first heard of that lady like 4 months ago(?); and I think, after her song was making rounds. I was deeply saddened.

Thank you for reminding young ladies (and gentlemen as well in general) that these (wo)men are not supposed to be their role models, actually all “stars” of the time. I’m also glad you mentioned Proverbs 31. I did write a short article on it around February. If you’re intrested to have a glimpse of it, here is the link:https://brokenforchrist159171453.wordpress.com/2021/02/08/charm-is-deceptive-beauty-is-fleeting/.

  7. Like you, I question Billboard’s version of female empowerment and their “Woman of the Year” title. I remember laughing out loud when I saw a news story on the award last year. I could think of a few others to honor, okay, let me restate that, I could think of many others who I would choose to honor over Cardi B and her choice of songs. While I’m disgusted by the song, I’m reminded that God’s message isn’t for everyone. We have free will. The best I can do is seek his guidance, honor him and give my best each day as Jesus outlined, and live my life as an example to others. Thanks for sharing. God be with you.

  8. I avoid pop culture and had never heard of Cardi B. until today. I could have happily lived the rest of my life comfortably without having heard of her or her twisted message. Some part of humanity has celebrated the values of meaningless sex and base living for ages (you can even read it in the Bible), but they used to be on the sidelines (or in dark caves or alleys). Now they seem to be given a platform and a microphone. Turn away and stop watching. Pray more and get involved as a mentor for a young girl. You can make a difference.

  9. I just listened that song and I have to say: this is just so commercial (if you know what I mean. I’m not sure if it’s the right word). This is done because of the sale. Sex is selling…

You’re so right in everything you said! I have been wondering this a long time. why sex has become a symbol of a strong woman?! You can see it every where. It’s girl power if you dance and dress up vile. It’s girl power if you introduce your bum (twerking) like in this years Finnish Talent. There were twerkers who made it to the finals and the judges were like: “girl power, yeah!” It has absolutely nothing to do with being a real strong woman!!! Women apparently want to be “guys” nowadays but why?! If everyone behaves like the so-called good guy what’s left of us: nothing!!!

The world needs real, traditional, empathetic, considerate women who really focus on the important things and don’t sell themselves only through sex! You can still be sensual, you can still be feminine. You don’t need to be “one of the guys” and be oversexual. I am concerned about this trend where femininity is going!

  12. When I read your last post, I could hear the compassion in your voice. Taking a stand for the Truth always brings out those who will try and tear us down. We are all welcome to have an opinion and to voice it. It’s how we voice it that matters. Keep standing up for the Truth. They hung Jesus on the cross for the Truth. Satan will do all he can to silence those who speak Truth. Keep up the good work.
I have heard of Cardi B and her song. I refuse to listen or even read the lyrics to it. Our society has been creeping closer and closer to this point. It was only a matter of time. Keep speaking the Truth, Caralyn. If only one person listens and hears, then that is all that matters! God Bless!

  14. We have raised six girls. Two are still at home. We teach them they are smart, strong, and courageous. The home they were removed from doesn’t define them. People who promote sexual abuse have never had to overcome the damage it does.
I am amazed how music, tv and video games target our children to promote poor values. It is considered “funny” to treat people degradingly. The punchline at the end maybe positive but everything else is rude, mean, and controlling. I asked my daughter why she fights about everything, she said it’s funny. That is the moment I started paying more attention to what I had previously considered safer.
I love that you are not afraid of the tough subjects. I know, as a woman, my value comes from Christ and I am blessed he gave me a husband who respects and loves me.

Amy Coney Barrett. I admit I wonder how she does it with a large family! But love her steadiness and example. When I listen to bits and pieces of Supreme Court decisions- her steady logical comments amaze me.
My other suggestion is Neman Ghafouri wh was a 52 year old female, surgeon, born in northern Iraq, refugee, settled in Sweden, got her medical degree, went back to Iraq, worked with displaced, hurting people until her death after contracting Covid.

Hi Caralyn, I just wanted to let you know, I skimmed over some of the comments of your last post and I have to say that I am incredibly impressed with how you handled yourself with some of them. Even with the less-relevant-to-the-actual-post criticism you handled with dignity and grace, and that’s something that I find extremely refreshing in this “keyboard warrior” world. Now that that’s out of the way, I really liked this post as well 🙂 You really hit the nail on the head with this one. I still remember the days when a song like that would NEVER have received airplay. Sadly her song wasn’t the first, but it is the worst I have ever heard. It is literally music porn and it is disgusting. But why are we surprised when she was literally a stripper and she is still proud of it. Years ago I talked to a young lady who was a stripper and she tried to convince m that she loved it because it empowered her to see what she could get men to do. I remember telling her that she was deceiving herself if she thought she had the power. “Ask yourself who is on the pole and who is in the audience?” This was in the early 2000’s when satan began tricking women with this new form of feminism (i.e. women’s empowerment.)

I cringe every time I see an instagram video with adults encouraging and praising little girls twerking and shaking their butts. That show Cuties should be banned as it promotes pedophelia. I shudder to think what the next generation is going to be like if people like Cardi B are named woman of the year. Perhaps the only thing that could make it worse is if Lil Nas is named women of the year. Shoot, now that I put it out there it will probably happen next year.

The fact is, when one is responsible for the running of a nation, and they can’t remember where they are, why they’re there, or how to walk up steps, it is sad for everyone watching the incapacity to lead well. I don’t think it’s fair to Joe to have one’s incompetence put on display. Which is how I interpreted your post from Thursday. Also, I appreciated your suggestion to check our own mental tone, that’s an excellent and apt reminder for all.

  28. Furthermore, If I were nominating a woman of the year, you’d be in the running with my mother in law. Both of you, even when you have every cause to respond to hurt with anger, you are both women I admire for quiet dignity, and gentle compassion; speaking the truth in love, and pointing people to Christ. THAT is praiseworthy.

  29. I have withdrawn from reading much about those headlines because it is just too disturbing. The world has gone nuts, but let’s be honest—earthly titles and accolades really mean nothing in the long run.

  32. On behalf of my daughters and granddaughters, and all men who embrace a God given and mother instilled respect for women, thank you. Thank you for your boldness, thank you for going against the flow and being a voice of truth, a voice of sanity, and dare I say it— the voice of God—for a generation that desperately needs to hear their peers speaking out. Sorry you took so much grief for your Biden post, but that is truth that needs to be spoken also. No one loves a prophet in the day they speak but never doubt nor shy away from your call and passion. Carry on Caralyn, God is with you. You have been given much and have much to give.

  33. I know you have good intentions, but I wouldn’t even give people like Cardi or Billboard the extra advertising in the future. They don’t deserve it. Without knowing, I imagine 90% of your following didn’t even know who Cardi B was.

Billboard to go his low must be desperate for clicks.

Complete agree with everything you said; it is terrible. I had to check out the song lyrics myself, as I thought you had to be joking. How does a song like this get released? That is the central question?

Without checking, I can imagine it was a massive song on MTV and the like. I know sex sells, but what’s next pornographic material in videos. It very sad that artists and record companies have to lower themselves this low to get sales.

Sometimes im thankful I grew up in the 80s. 2021 must be so confusing for the young generation.

    1. Hi Laura! Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. The world is just taking this garbage at face value and letting it influence our young people, and degrade women’s worth and dignity, and I just felt the need to just say something. You ever feel like that? Like…I just need to say something! Everything is so backwards. Jesus, help us!! so glad you stopped by. Hugs and love xox

      1. Yes! Absolutely I do! If we don’t speak up, what chance do our young have? They’ll only have that warped ideal and pattern to emulate. So many are afraid to speak up, afraid to face backlash and shy away. But, it has to be our duty to boldly speak the truth so they may know it and have a fighting chance in this skewed new normal. And, I think we have to pray for Cardi B, Lopez and those with influence that are themselves mislead.
I’m so proud of you, your courage to bold speak the truth.
        Hugs 💕

  34. Your words are very powerful! Thank you for your message. 🙂

Now, first, I do apologize to hear that others may not agree with your words and were very cruel speaking those words. The sad and odd fact is that any message or truth faces both criticisms, both positive and negative. Don’t worry. I, too, had to learn how to ‘just listen’ and give them time to speak how they feel, whether they accept my message or not. But whatever words that people have spoken to you, don’t let it ‘break’ or stop you from speaking and sharing your message within your heart.

As for Cardi B, it’s as if we (females) went from being downgraded many centuries ago, to being upgraded or empowered, to being downgraded again as if we’re in a loop or in a rotating wheel of life. The harder we try or attempt to fight and break out of the cycle, without God, we are stuck within our prison walls, metaphorically speaking. And I agree with you, a women’s life is way more valuable than we might believe within the Lord’s Eye… even for men as well. The value of life is priceless. Period. Even Lil Nas X, a rapper, sold his soul for $55. Really? And he is only 22-years old? That’s how cruel and dark life has become sadly enough. All we can do is pray for our sisters and brothers, in Christ, that their lives will be protected from the wiles of the devil’s schemes.

As to answer your question: “Who would I Bestow as Woman Of The Year?” For me, personally, it’s a toss up between “You” and “My Mother”. Besides, awards can be shared. 🙂

Love ya’, Sis, and continue to stay strong! 🙂

I feel like it’s a scene from Dumb & Dumber when “Pet’s heads are falling off!”
Oh, Caralyn. I’m at a loss of words and a “what are we to do?”

    Again…I pray.
I pray to St. Michael, to defend us in the battle.
I pray to all the angels & the Saints “to light to guard, to rule, to guide.”
As I continue to proclaim and BELIEVE – Jesus, I trust in You.

Hugs to you for again, speaking on a woefully sad reality we are faced with in our current Country’s Culture.
