I had a really disturbing experience over the weekend.
Really disturbing.
I was over at a friend’s house this weekend, and on their TV, they had playing (for their toddler) a YouTube-curated playlist of children’s programming, in order to occupy him while the “grown ups” chatted. Children’s channels on YouTube are gifts from Above for parents, as it will instantly captivate a child’s attention. It has the power to stop tears, get them to eat, distract them on an airplane, kill some extra time, etc.
Everything from Baby Shark to The Wiggles to Disney Princesses, to Blue’s Clues is on this playlist. It even will broadcast “livestream-style” so the child will always have new programming.
Well, you can imagine our shock when a literal cartoon drag queen started singing with “Blue” – of Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues – about queer, non-binary and trans families, set at an LGBTQIA+ Pride parade.
This song — with sing-a-long highlighted lyrics, just so you didn’t miss it — was targeting children.
Children.
Introducing them to terms like…
Pansexual.
Bisexual.
I even had to google what “ACE” was…
And it’s “asexual.”
Good thing a toddler will know what that is before I do!
Watching this just randomly come on the TV, with Blue and this barrel-chested drag queen spewing this LGBT agenda…it was bone chilling.
And I’m not being dramatic.
It was terrifying.
Imagine as a parent, having to explain what a drag queen is to a TODDLER.
This is grooming 101.
I was deeply unsettled.
Why on God’s green earth are we teaching toddlers about alternative sexual lifestyles?
It is absolutely baffling to me. Not just the utter confusion this sews for a child…questioning why this rainbow woman who sounds like a man is saying that families can have two mommies, or what a “non-binary baba” is. But the predation on the innocence of our children is enough to make me break out the torches and pitch forks. Shame on you, Nickelodeon, and its parent company, Paramount.
I couldn’t get this 4-minute song visual out of my head all weekend. The catchiness of the tune, the manipulative imagery they used to captivate a child, the message behind it. It haunted me.
Until Monday morning. When I was jolted into reality by something even more disturbing.
Enter: Generation Drag. A new Discovery+ show (owned by Warner Brothers, and produced by Tyra Banks), that follows TEENAGERS as they prepare for Dragutante, a drag ball for queer teens in Colorado, ages 8-18.
I stomached my way through the entire trailer, and came away feeling so sad for these children.
They’re being paraded around by society — and their parents — as these brave examples of acceptance and expression, when the reality is that they are being over-sexualized, hyper-feminized, and groomed into a pedophile’s fantasy.
Since when have we started celebrating an under-age teenage boy wearing women’s dominatrix cage-lingerie, and performing provocatively for adults?
This is child abuse.
This is absolute sexual predation on children.
And it sickens me to my core. I am absolutely disgusted that is not only just happening out in the world…but that it’s being celebrated on TV, and implanted into the young, impressionable minds of our children.
There was one part of the trailer where our 9 or ten year old hero boy, who is shown in an inappropriately short pink tennis skirt while shopping for furry pink platform boots with his father, is shown saying, “Oh God, this is happening…” in exactly the voice you’re probably hearing in your head: a valley girl, taking the Lord’s name in vein while flipping her wrist and rolling her eyes.
And as I heard it, in my mind I prayed, “Oh God, this is happening.”
Lord, protect these children. Protect the minds of those children who see and hear this, and fill their hearts with Your love, and their minds with Your truth.
Your truth about who they really are: their true identity as a son or a daughter of God, infinitely loved by a God who made them in His image: male or female.
A God who delights so boundlessly in us, and created us each unique, special and a reflection of our Creator.
All of this wedding preparation I have been doing here recently, has unintentionally got me day dreaming about life “down-the-road” with my then-will-be-husband: having children, what they will look like, how many God will give us, watching them grow up.
And I’ve gotta tell ya — the thought of bringing children into this current world, where they will be the zeroed in target for radical agendas that not only completely contradict Christian, family values, but label anyone who holds traditional Christian values as bigoted, backwards, phobic people….it scares the living daylights out of me.
I can’t dwell on that thought too much, because it is so disheartening.
We’re watching the world completely deteriorate around us: from backlash over the Parental Rights in Education Bill, to Disney unabashedly trying to insert their “queer agenda” wherever they can into children’s programming. (Info from a leaked audio conference call from a Disney producer.)
There is a battle out there over the souls of the most vulnerable: our children.
Lord, give us strength to withstand the fiery arrows from the enemy, and from those who seek to strip the world of your Truth.

I’m gonna guess this comment thread is overwhelmingly populated by people who were groomed into Christianity and Catholicism by family members and brace myself for a lot of resistance.
But here’s two thoughts – well, really a thought and an admission:
The admission is that as a member of the LGBTQI+ community, I don’t really like drag. I used to like it when it was a take it or leave it entertainment option. However, these days it is hard to escape and it’s worn me the heck out. I go out to brunch for eggs and a Bloody Mary. I don’t pick my destination based on the drag show, as a matter of fact, I might change my destination if there is one. So, it’s hard for me to go out of my way to decent that piece of my subculture. They’ve got the numbers, they can do it themselves.
And now, my thought…I think a good many people upset by the inclusion of sexual identity in educational curriculum are confusing sexual identity with being sexually active. This is not the goal – you’re projecting your own insecurities or perversion onto these situations. The goal – and I think most of you are smart enough to figure this out yourselves if you could see past your own dogmatic grooming – is to expose young minds to broad cultural differences versus the narrow minded “teaching” they might get at home. It’s the same reasoning behind/side effect of desegregation in public schools: if white and black kids are educated together, they learn by virtue of exposure that kids of varying shades are every bit as human as they are, despite what their racist parents might allow them to be exposed to at home.
Grooming. Y’all need to put your Fox News et al on mute. I watched that 44 minute clip you embedded, you want to talk about sickening? You watch people who host TV shows and actively admit that they stop listening when they hear a phrase that triggers their fragile sexual identity. Tell me you’re close-minded without saying you’re close-minded. That should tell you your own grooming is ongoing, you’re not seeking to live with an open mind and heart when you seek first to judge versus understand…and understanding starts with listening, not judging.

I quite often disagree with Carolyn’s views myself but she has always been polite,respectful and compassionate. I have very little time for Fox News. Much of it is pure propaganda. Nonetheless I value Carolyn’s blog as a place to meet and try to understand people whose views are often at odds with my own.

Hi Caralyn, Thank you for writing about this subject, you are a very courageous and strong woman! I admire you greatly! Because of fear of losing one’s job or position most people will not take the risk to make a stand for the values of God and Jesus. What these people are really afraid of is that God will not provide for them if they make a strand and so instead they allow Satan to be in control. God will always provide for us! If a job is lost or a position is reduced God will open up another job or position instead. Sometimes we have to have losses in order for God to bring something better in to our lives and to serve His purposes. Just look what God has done for you. It is difficult to walk in faith! Keep your courage you are an inspiration to others.

Where can Satan do the most damage? In the minds of youth and teens. Depression, anxiety, low self esteem, addictions and disorders, the list goes on. It’s nothing new, really. Just packaged differently. Like someone else commented earlier, the world our grandchildren have to grow up in is a bit scary. All the more reason we stand firm in our beliefs and set the example, building a firm foundation for them to stand on.

Oh my goodness, this is outrageous and SO awful!!! I had no idea! My kids haven’t watched Blue’s Clues in awhile, but I’m glad to know that it should be avoided. That’s pure sickness. The poor children of this world. 😦
