Censored by Facebook

I’ve gotta tell ya – something stinks around here. And it’s not the Brussels sprouts I’ve got roasting in the oven.

It’s Facebook’s bully culture, silencing any voice that counters their liberal agenda.

Story time: Remember just last week, I published a passionately pro-life piece after New York’s Governor Cuomo signed the Reproductive Health Act into law, thus allowing abortion up to birth?

Yeah – well…Facebook censored my article.

That sound you hear, is my head, banging against the wall.

Yep. Facebook — and their aggressively liberal agenda — would not allow me to advertise that particular post on my page.

Not once, not twice, but four different times, I tried to purchase an advertisement for that pro-life post, and all four times, it was denied and “banned.”

BANNED!

What are we, in some utopian society where they’re burning books and censoring what we can and can’t think about?!

I’ve got to believe that it was because it took a pro-life stance.

And this isn’t the first time this censorship has happened either. My anti-pornography post — Facebook banned that one, too!

It is just disgusting.

Nevermind the pathetic moral fiber of our USA — where’s the freedom of speech?

Where’s the freaking First Amendment?

Facebook, I’m calling you out! How dare you censor something, just because it is pro-life?

How dare you silence a voice, simply because it is standing up against the culture of death you’re pushing?

I’m sick and tired of it.

Arrogance. That’s what it is.

Arrogance. Almost as bad as the display of self-importance demonstrated by our democratic, female House representatives wearing all white suits at the State of the Union Address.

Photo: CNN

Honestly, their behavior made me ashamed to be a woman.

Here’s the beautiful and hilarious irony in all of this:

The Suffragettes that those women were “honoring” by wearing all white — Susan B Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Victoria Woodhull — they’d be appalled by the pro-abortion agenda today’s feminists are fighting for!

Photo: Alamy

President Trump, in his SOTU address, proclaimed some of the most inspiring, pro-life words, ever:

To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking the Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb. Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life. And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth:  all children – born and unborn – are made in the holy image of God.” – President Trump

Photo: KCRW

It brought republicans to their feet in wild applause. Meanwhile, our democratic “women in white” sat there and pouted like petulant teenagers.

The beautiful irony is that the original suffragettes would have been on their feet cheering, too. Women’s rights were not – and are not – abortion rights. In fact, Susan B Anthony, herself, said, “it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit.”

Photo: Stylist

What do you have to say about that, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?

I am all for the celebration and recognition of women. We are strong, beautiful, intelligent individuals that are capable of doing everything a man can do – and more when you add bearing children to the list!

One of the buzziest phrases of the moment is “women supporting women.” Women should build each other up instead of tear them down.

Okay – so tearing them down, is a no…but tearing them out of the womb is okay?

I digress.

It is a very dangerous thing when thoughts and ideas are banished simply based on political affiliation or religious belief.

It is the beginning of a deeply destructive end.

A small spotlight was shone on this alarming pattern of behavior during the media’s smear campaign of the Covington Catholic students.

But that was only one isolated incident that got caught.

There are sooo many other instances of censorship, biased/selective reporting, and abuse of journalistic publishing power that are happening all the time that we are completely unaware of.

In things as big as how Major Networks frame a story, to things as small as refusing to allow a pro-life article on Facebook’s platform.

I ask you: what is it that the mainstream media is fighting for?

What climate and culture are they pushing? Because I can assure you, it is not one of life.

How can we trust them? And frankly, what are we to do?

Honestly – what do we do about it?

I ugre you to approach the news and mainstream media with a discerning eye.

Is it true? Who is it serving? What is the other side of the story?

And most of all – What do they have to gain from it?

And lastly, I invite you to help me stick it to the “Facebook man” — and if my prolife post resonated with you, please give it a “share” on Facebook. They can try and snuff one pro-life voice. But let’s see them try to silence a chorus!

  1. Censoring by Facebook is a badge of honor. Psalm 42:1 (Douay-Rheims): “Judge me, O God, and Distinguish my cause from a nation which is not holy.”

Stand apart from the unholy nations. If practicable, I would advise you end your association with the institution of Facebook. Don’t give them the satisfaction of seeking their approval. Seek to emulate Moses in leading your followers to freedom, off and away from that dystopian site.

  2. I just wanted to comment that I believe there is so much content on sites like Facebook and other social media sites, that your post may have been banned by algorithmic flag, and this world runs on what the computer spits out as if we are data points and not human beings. Although I don’t share your view on abortion, obviously there is nothing in what you tried to post that threatens or harms anyone, and it shouldn’t be censored, period.

I read an article recently about Jainists, a minority subsection of Indian culture which believes that all life has value and inherent rights: they won’t even step in mud puddles for fear of disturbing microbial life. While I wish we had better economic and environmental circumstances such that fewer children were left with unmet needs (food, shelter, but also emotional) and fewer abortions to follow. It’s not my choice to make for someone else: my body can’t even host life. I just wanted to bring up the Jainists, because there is actually quite a bit of scientific research indicating many animal species experience emotion and feel pain. We don’t think twice about eating trout, for example, but there is strong evidence that they experience pain. Our bodies were made by god – I don’t think people have the standing to dictate to one another things about their bodies. Just my opinion, and there’s 325 million other people in this country. There’s no viable society where what you tried to post ought to be censored.

  3. I have heard of this but I have hundreds of constitutionally conservative and biblically conservative posts with no problems. then again I am not trying to ” purchase an advertisement” for any of these.

  4. This comment will probably get censored too, but I need to say it. Actually there’s two things I need to say:

    1. People who get abortions who think they have the right to call themselves mothers. A mother would not kill her unborn child on purpose. Just because some woman feel guilty after getting an abortion, thus turning to therapy, and for some therapists to tell them that they are still moms… um no. This made me wanna hurl when I heard this lady part of the faith organization at the local hospital here give her speech about that.

    2. How the hospital papers here clump abortions and miscarriages together. When I saw a 1 next to #of abortions on my sheet of yellow paper after I had a miscarriage 3 years ago, I wanted to scream. Health care professionals need to be more conscious about how their female patients might feel. They may not realize how hurtful that can be to a woman who has had a miscarriage (or medically speaking, a spontaneous abortion, which is also a disgusting term in my opinion)

  5. I did not take the time to read all the comments, but those that I did read seemed to support your claims and complaints that you enumerated in this post. Thus, I assume, I am in the minority here, but I hope that my view will not be dismissed simply because of where I sit on the ideological spectrum.

I do not know why Facebook banned your posts, I do not work for them, nor do I know anyone who does. I do know that they have come under fire recently (perhaps rightfully so) for exercising little to no editorial prudence, particularly when it comes to “political speech.” There is no denying that many actors posted “fake news” on Facebook in an attempt to sway public opinion on various topics including, but not limited to, this nation’s elections. So while you feel affronted, there is no doubt that the issue of abortion is political to its core, which is why, I imagine, they banned your article—they are responding (perhaps an overreaction) to the outcry they have faced for their blatant lack of oversight.

While you will likely not agree with this, I think you finding solace in Trump’s speech when he spoke about abortion is a bit near-sighted—you do know that he really has no opinion on abortion, right? He said that for one reason—to insure that you vote for him again in 2020.

I also take umbrage with your assessment that the original members of the suffragette movement would be staunchly anti-abortion—do you have any proof of this? I know there has been considerable speculation by pro-life activists, but as far as I have been able to ascertain, it is merely speculation (and also a very different time—just a few decades prior, half the nation was very pro-slavery. Slavery.).

Last, as a liberal, I can assure you that there is no one—no one—that is “pro-abortion.” While I disagree with the law in New York, I am not a woman, have never been pregnant, and have no idea how anyone could come to such a decision. But who am I to say what is right or wrong when it comes to someone else’s body?

    1. Hi friend, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this. I respect that everyone has their own opinion on the abortion issue. I was disappointed in Facebook for their squelching of freedom of speech. hugs xox

  6. I’ve been hesitant to comment here because I do disagree with you fundamentally about abortion, and strongly feel that the rights of the mother are more important and her decisions on sex and procreation should be respected. In other words, a woman should never be forced into motherhood just because she had sex and got pregnant. If a woman wants to sever the connection between sex and motherhood I firmly and vehement believe that is her right. Of course, if she chooses otherwise that choice should also be respected.

Choice is the objective here. It’s her body. As far as I’m concerned she is the only one with authority over it, and not even god can gainsay her decision.

That being said, the pro-life bloc strikes me as more pro-birth than anything else. There are children alive today all over the planet who are living in conditions we wouldn’t let our own livestock inhabit. And yet, there are these people who exhort rhetoric that sets aside these children and guts the services and aid they rely on in order penalize their mothers for making decisions they disagree with.

    That’s not right.

As for the post being censored by Facebook, don’t sweat it much. Facebook uses algorithms that rely on people to flag posts. I can say with absolute certainty almost every political Facebook post you make gets flagged by at least one person; anything political gets someone riled up somewhere. Facebook got it wrong, though.

You don’t deserve to be censored, but don’t take it personally. I’m a liberal firebrand and have been in Facebook jail often.

  7. I am a free speech absolutist and I always have been. I grew up with people saying “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

Those same people now censor unpopular speech because they have the power.

The Constitution exists because what if you get the government you don’t like?

Without the 1st Amendment ‘permitted speech’ can be redefined with the prevailing winds.

I’m not sure that social forums like Facebook are not now subject to freedom of speech. They have such a pervasive stranglehold on opinion forums that they may have transitioned into new territory.

Repression of free speech is terrifying.

    Thank God for WordPress.

    Keep the faith, Beauty!

  8. I totally agree with everything you have said here. Facebook is pretty much Nanny State Social Media. It never really grew up, it was created to bring people together but it has lived up to what could have been it’s true potential. Something as large as Facebook as a platform it a great starting point to make changes and highlight causes that need highlighting. However what we have instead is bunch of Fascists basically telling us “You are not allowed a voice or an opinion” The problem is that unless someone comes along with a “Grown UP” social media platform or until Facebook grows out of Diapers and becomes potty trained we will always be subject to censorship and potential Facebook Prison (OH NO NOT FACEBOOK PRISON AGAIN) Everyone around the world deserves to have their voices and opinions heard. Facebook was never designed for that but it should have been. Facebook banned a couple of my profile pics a couple of years ago, the pictures were only of me in my Uniform from the days when I served in the Royal Navy. I am sick of Facebook controlling our lives and if I could I would create an Adult Social Media site, where freedom of speech and expression was encouraged.

Facebook The Anti Social, Social Media Platform Controlling lives one life at a time.

  9. Things have been continually getting worse in America since 1973 when the 1st abortion law was passed. Now there taking our freedom to speak away from us. I know that a private company has the right to prevent an article from being published. I also know that we the people have the right to speak out for or against any subject we want no matter if it is private company or not. Remember when the Christian baker refused to make the wedding cake for the homosexual couple that got married? The government has to involve themselves in most everything we do anymore. The United States Supreme Court has rendered itself completely useless to to the American people now. Our rights as Americans are fading fast. We can only hope the Lord comes and takes us out of this mess that has been made on this planet.

  10. Your experience is just like mine. I had no problems with Facebook ever, but earlier this year I posted anti-abortion posts and since then they nitpick and ban anything that is against “community standards”. Yesterday they blocked a post from one of my websites. I just repackaged it with a new title and a new picture on another website and they accepted it. As far as I can tell they don’t check out the content of a post. So if you rename it from a new source, as in a new website, copying the words, but not the entire article, so the new web address is no longer the same as the original, they will allow it to post. I started out with “Paul On Trial” (which they claim is against community standards), and I re-packaged it as “The Great Apostle” and all is well. So in this case it was the title that they were offended by and by changing the title my post got posted. You can beat them at their own game by learning new ways to say the same thing. I choose to look at it proactively and thank them for helping me to communicate in non-offensive ways, but still getting my message across in a kinder, gentler way. God bless you. I love your posts.

  11. Just another thought. Instead of saying something like “Abortion Is Murder” as a title of a Facebook post, try something like “The Negative Side Affects To Unborn Children”. Anyways, you get my idea and surely can come up with an original non-offensive title. You will get your posts posted in this way. A compromise, but it works.

My page there now is pretty boring but I do have my blog linked to it but try to watch what I post there. The world needs open minds and eyes but censorship and the controlling factors of our governments, churches, and so on want us to be banned on anything that they feel that might give us control of anything. We have to see, think and feel what they say we should. I really have to say movies like the hunger games are really NOT that for from being our reality. In fact I’m working on a blog now just with those thoughts in mind and I’m waiting to see what the results may be.
