Happy Wednesday and Happy JULY, my friends!
I mean, wow, can you believe it?!
I thought I’d kick off this month with one of my FAVORITE breakfasts I’ve been enjoying recently.
I don’t know about you, but I follow quite a few “food accounts” on Instagram. And every self-proclaimed “foodie” knows how to make an instagram-worthy smoothie bowl. It’s got a drizzle, some funky toppings, it’s a beautiful gem color, and typically served in a coconut or some outlandish bowl.
Well — I have neither a coconut tree at my disposal, or even a bowl without a couple chips on the rim — but I still wanted to make a smoothie bowl that was as pretty as it was delicious!
And folks, I think mission accomplished! And it’s so good, I’ve been eating it nonstop all week!
It’s my VERY BERRY CHERRY SMOOTHIE BOWL!
You could freeze all the ingredients and have it be like my famous “nice cream” dishes. But for this, I only used some frozen ingredients so it was a more traditional smoothie consistency. I really like that contrast with the crunchy granola.
And it’s grain and gluten free, paleo, vegan, and Specific Carbohydrate Diet friendly!
Here’s What You Need: (Serves 1)
2 Very Ripe (with lots of brown spots) Bananas (Use 1.5 in the smoothie, and reserve the other 1/2 for the topping)
1 cup mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) (I don’t use blackberries because I don’t like the seeds in a smoothie)
1 cup frozen cherries (Trader Joes has a great brand)
1-2 Tbsp Almond Milk as needed
*Optional* 2 tsp honey or agave
Grain Free Granola
1/2 banana cut into coins
handful fresh raspberries
sunflower or pumpkin seeds
nut butter of choice (I used almond)
Food processor OR blender
Good Chef’s Knife (this is the one I use and love)
This could not be more simple. Put all the ingredients into your food processor or blender (reserving half of one banana for the toppings). Blend until completely smooth.
Pour smoothie into a bowl, and top with your desired toppings, and drizzle with your nut butter.
*Artistic tip:* it’s aesthetically pleasing to have different textures and shapes in your array of toppings. Also, be sure to leave 1/3 – 1/2 of your smoothie bowl surface “open” so you can see the beautiful purple color of the smoothie itself. It’s a nice juxtaposition to the jumble of toppings!
THIS WAS SO DELICIOUS!
I am a firm believer that you eat with your eyes first. So I personally believe that when we have a beautiful dish in front of us, it just tastes better. Whether it actually does or it’s just our eyes influencing our taste buds, the world may never know, but it just tastes special.
The combination of the super sweet cherries with the creamy banana and the tart and sweet berries gave it such a satisfying flavor. Combined with the grain free, crunchy granola and buttery cashews — it was just marvelous.
But the almond butter drizzle took it over the top!!! Oh my gosh, I am obsessed.
It’s not wonder why I’ve eaten this 4 times already this week!
Do yourself a favor — make this for yourself or someone you love. They will not only love how it looks, but also how yummy it is!
AND HEALTHY TOO! I almost forgot! There are so many antioxidants and vitamins in this superfood smoothie! Plus fiber and protein from the nuts and nut butter!
Who knew that healthy could taste so good!?
Alright, until next time!

Hahaha you’re too funny Ian! Thanks so much! Hugs and love xox
Hey, what happened to the “fabulous Fiesta Shrimp and Avocado Salad” from last week? 🤣🤣🤣 Next week maybe? 😉 Excellent as always. And I believe you’re right, taste and enjoyment begin with the eyes, and that’s a beautiful dish. Can’t wait to try it out. Will have to do some searching for those bars though, no Costco’s around here. Have a great week! 😊
Oh haha I guess I’ll have to get that one going for next week! Sorry Kenneth! Thanks 🙂 you can also sub your favorite granola! 🙂 have a great night! Hugs and love xox
I could probably handle another granola, but your idea of using grain-free caught my attention. I don’t have UC or Crohn’s, but I do have some allergy reaction to just about all foods other than chicken. 🙄 So I’ve wondered if getting rid of grains might be a good idea. BTW – I’ve told some folks about your success with the SCD and suggested they check it out as well as your cookbook for alternative recipes. Thanks for another great food idea! 🙂
Oh gosh I’m sorry to hear that. Yes! Definitely try that. An elimination diet is something to look into as well! Hugs and love xox
This looks so good. I’ll have to try it! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much Sue! It was super yummy! Hugs and love xox

Thanks Ab! I hope you have a great Fourth too! Hugs and love xox
This looks nice!
Thanks so much David! Hugs and love xox
For a while, I was making smoothie bowls but they weren’t nearly as exciting as your smoothie bowl. I agree that the garnishes makes the dish even more visually-appealing than it already is. Cherries are delicious! My fave are frozen cherries but they are expensive so I hardly buy them. 🍒🍒
Thanks Hilary! Oh yes – garnishes are always my favorite part! Be a smoothie bowl, a taco, a Bloody Mary! Ooh yes I love cherries too! Have a great day! Hugs and love xox
Looks absolutely amazing.
Aw thank you so much!! It really was! Hugs and love xox
I drooled a little reading this post. Looks fantastic!
Haha thanks so much Kim! Definitely drool worthy! Hugs and love xox
this looks so good, and it reminds me of the acai bowls that we became addicted to a few years ago. It’s like eating a dessert, but it’s good for you!
Thank you so much Jim! Oh yes! I’ve never had an açaí bowl but I’ll sure they’re very very similar!! Right!! Have a great day! Hugs and love xox
I love making smoothies but have never tried making a bowl; usually just drink from a glass, but I like your idea! And almond butter, oh yeah!
Thanks Steve! Oh yeah almond butter really makes it! Hugs and love xox

While I do not have any dietary restrictions—and don’t always agree with them—I really enjoy how you make efforts to present foods that pretty much—if not all—anyone could eat. I tell my wife (she has gluten issues) about your recipes, and we have tried some. So, again, thank you. Also, we have liked them. 🙂
Thanks so much William!! Oh that’s so wonderful, I’m glad to hear you’ve been enjoying them! Have an awesome day! Hugs and love xox
