NYC NEEDS THE POLICE

NYC is not safe anymore.

And it’s because the city desperately needs police presence.

I don’t have to tell you about society’s current tidal wave of hatred and detest towards our men and women in blue. Battle cries to “defund the police;” publicly canceling anyone who even considers that “blue lives matter.” There is a quelling uprising against law and order, and while – sure, it may seem “woke” and a noble bandwagon to jump on, the fact of the matter is, there are serious consequences to alienating those who are there to protect and defend. And that is being seen in full scale in Manhattan, no matter how much the mainstream media may try to downplay it.

(And Mom and dad, I apologize ahead of time for the worry this post may ignite. Please know that I am being safe, taking precautions, and frankly…not doing anything stupid to get into a dangerous situation.)

My friends and I got back from Maine on Monday night at midnight. And the city was lights out. Dead. For a city that used to literally never sleep — where you could go out at any time, on any day, and see swaths of people milling around — it is alarming that Manhattan is so quiet. And why? Because half of New York has left, and those that have stayed behind are scared to go out past 10.

Outdoor restaurants close at 10 pm. Historically 24-hour CVS’s, bodegas, and diners — now all close at 10. Parks – which have never been gated up…now, locked with a chain and padlock at 10.

Why? Because it is no longer safe to be out after dark.

Perhaps you may be thinking I’m overreacting. Sure…just a typical overdramatic millennial who’s extra skiddish because she’s a young woman who lives alone. Please. I have never once felt scared in NYC. Ever. Until now.

It was such a shock to go from “Mayberry,” Maine back to Gotham. The night my friends and I got home, I got a text from one of my friends — that morning, there was an arrest made in her building. A homeless man had been living in her stairwell for MONTHS, and had been stealing packages. This was in a super nice building on the Upper West Side — arguably one of the nicest, most affluent neighborhoods in Manhattan.

Which is particularly alarming and crazy, because she had been getting her packages delivered to my doorman building for quite some time now, because all of her packages were going missing.

Crime is up.

You may recall the incident I had just a few months ago: where a BLM radical YouTuber accosted me outside my building, and forced me to get on my knees and hail BLM while he livestreamed it. I was one of a string of young women he “vlogged” that day.

Graffiti tags are absolutely everywhere. The population of homeless people has soared, and so has their boldness. My friend was curtly confronted by a homeless man who pressured her into VENMOING HIM money, when she explained she didn’t have any cash.

My “neighborhood watch” Citizen Ap on my phone pings incessantly throughout the day and night, notifying me of crime in my current vicinity. Unsettling reminders for sure.

These are not just isolated incidents. Homicides. Robberies. Burglaries. All have skyrocketed recently. And why? Because cops are afraid to do their jobs anymore.

Why put your life on the line, when — if you act to defend yourself, it could be filmed and end up on national news where you’ll be labeled a racist, and prosecuted?

They’ve had enough. And so they’re walking off the job. In startlingly large numbers.

The NYPD has recently cited “ongoing challenges,” including an “increase in retirements” and “deep budget cuts.”

That is terrifying information. Terrifying.

In case you missed it, back in June, one billion dollars was cut from the NYC police budget. And the impact of that are now beginning to be felt.

What is going to happen to our country if law and order is not the backbone of society? Truly? What will our world become?

Now here’s the tough part. Because yes – we need to support our men and women of the badge – but it is also true that there are “bad apples” that are drawn to the allure of the police force, and the power and -sadly, weaponry- that goes along with it. But to completely throw the entire baby out with the bathwater, just because of a problematic bunch…it is wholeheartedly unwise.

Are the horrific and heartbreaking incidents of unjust police brutality that have happened in recent months absolutely unwarranted, unjust, and deserving prosecution? One hundred percent yes.

But those handful of terrible, terrible incidents do not color the vast majority of blue men and women who truly have dedicated their lives and their livelihoods to protecting and serving the community, and keeping people safe.

It is a job that I cannot imagine waking up and doing every day.

And it is a job that, yes, probably should have more training and vetting, and support, and accountability, than it currently does.

But we need to support law and order in this country. Without it, we are creating a scenario ripe for malice, and foul play, and all sorts of corruption. A scenario that we are beginning to see play out in Manhattan.

Yes – we need to stand up for the innocent lives lost to unjust police force. We need to demand justice for Brionna Taylor, for George Floyd, and for those heartbreaking examples of lives lost at the hands of cops.

But we need the police.

If that means supply more adequate training – so be it. If that means more checks and balances within the system – full steam ahead. If that means a stricter vetting process to become a man or woman in blue – let it be done.

But we need the police. And we need to support the police.

Lord, may the civil unrest that is plaguing this country come to a peaceful end. May our brothers and sisters see one another as just that: one family — one human race, all with dignity and inherent value. May we come to respect one another and earnestly desire to work together to come up with creative and effective solutions to make each and every person in this country feel safe, and supported. And may any tinges of racism be expunged from the hearts of those harboring such darkness, and be replaced with Your love — a love that sees the dignity and value of each and every human life – from conception to natural death. Amen.

  1. Personally I would get out of New York. Maybe that why you had such a good time in Maine. You might not think living in that Environment is harmful but it is, mentally. How better would it be to wake up in the country were you can go for walks and breathe fresh air. New York will always be there.

      1. This whole virus and global unrest, is affecting us all in ways we don’t even know. What I recommend is that you move somewhere for 2-3 weeks, maybe a friend can put you up, and experience being out without actually leaving, if you know what I mean. Then see how different you feel. Been a creative person you will know if its helping you almost instantly.

  7. It’s all abstract until it happens to you to someone you know. I recall a time when NYC had extremely high crime in the 70’s -80’s. It got cleaned up and the city prospered. Its unfortunate how far some will go to further a political agenda. Im thankful I dont live in a city anymore.

  8. I think the whole mistake was to use the words, “defund the police” and it becomes the battle cry for all who want change. We still need police and the strategy needs to be “refocus the police”. In regards to BLM, I agree the pendulum has swung too far back the other way, but that was also the case in the Women’ Lib movement for a while. The problem is the whole “them against us scenario” promoted by 400 years of abuse and by opposing views and politicians to get reelected. As long as we are divided and opposed, we can never exist together. Sanity has to come to both sides of any disagreement and inciting riots by forcing compliance (“Might makes Right” or “Law and Order”) is also not the way. While many demonstrations start out peacefully, the hooligan fringe either rushes in or is imported by the other side to stir the pot and make it worse, so they can carry out crimes in anonymity. Then BLM or some other faction gets the blame for all the destruction. A meaningful dialogue has to be encouraged between all groups, proper responses to crimes have to be encouraged, better training for police is needed and not every situation needs to be used as a police training exercise. Don’t get me started what they do in Berkeley every time the students have a peaceful protest. In our city, they currently have 4 teams of a policeman and social worker who respond to domestic disputes, social worker to deescalate tensions and policeman to protect the social worker. Police are being asked to be our problem solvers in all areas and they willingly take on the job, even if they do not have all the training but they should be looking out for our greater security, not handling petty complaints with a SWAT team. The proliferation of guns, both legal and illegal just exacerbates the problem. We also need leaders who do not make things worse with their words or actions. They need to be for all people, not just themselves. A complex problem or problems, for sure. We have to come up long enough to breathe so things can get better. Stay well.

  9. So sad and disturbing.
    Appreciate your sharing these details so we who do not live there can know what is happening.
    I live in a suburban area of a medium size city and am aware that the inner city area has changed drastically and become increasingly dangerous although on a much smaller scale than NYC. I suspect that this is happening everywhere to varying degrees. So many problems to address but one thing is clear we definitely need the police.

  10. My advice is to move out of NYC now. The situation you’ve described will not improve but continue to deteriorate due to the budget cut you mentioned. I believe this country is under God’s wrath and the urban areas will be affected first. You can continue your blog and your business from anywhere. Get out while you can.

I have urged family who live there to move, but they are staying. As long as the Arch of Baal replica is in that city, you are going to have problems. (You can Google that.) I will pray for you.   20. Carolyn, I understand your points. Living in Columbus, Ohio, violent crimes have skyrocketed, especially homicides. As with many things in life, we need to balance our approach to law enforcement with a balance and avoid knee-jerk reactions.

  22. Agreed! I’m surprised police recruitment hasn’t gone way down. Who wants to serve when regard for their life is insignificant. When you were sharing, I immediately visualized the film “Escape From New York”. If you’ve not seen it, it’s like coming to fruition from what you describe. Sad.   23. It’s a nightmare to watch the news and to see what has happened and is happening to our country. The police are absolutely necessary. I am shocked at the belligerent disrespect that rioters are committing towards the police. I pray for this country with all my heart.   25. Hmm this is very horrible to hear but to be honest I see this as the city’s judgement from turning far away from Jesus. I’m not saying there is a remnant of serious righteous people, but indeed the end is drawing nearer and nearer. Will continue to lift your friends & you and your family and the city in prayer.       A: the homeless man stole it.
      B: the homeless man does not have a right to be in that neighborhood.
      C: Because it is affluent, people who live there are somehow exempt from being crime victims.

      1. Hi Peter. I appreciate you joining the conversation again. I’d like to address your “ABC.” First of all, I was setting up the scene by describing the place in which she lives. It was not a dig at anyone. There are lots of different neighborhoods in Manhattan that span a lot of different income levels (that in itself is also problematic), and I figured that was a more eloquent way of stating that she lives in the neighborhood with the highest rent in the city. Ok now onto your points.
        A) there was evidence that he stole the packages, hence the arrest.
        B) he has every right to be in that neighborhood, but squatting in a building in which he is not paying rent is illegal. It is trespassing to the highest degree.
        C) again, I am not saying that people who live in affluent areas are exempt from being crime victims. I was merely setting the scene and painting a picture of the neighborhood I was describing. Because, as I mentioned there are many MANY different neighborhoods in Manhattan, and yes, sadly some have an acutely higher crime rate than others. And this particular neighborhood: the upper west side, is full of families, high rent buildings with state of the art security (ie 24-hour security personelle), neighborhood police watch, etc, and as a result, crime tends to be lower there.

  26. Wouldn’t it be nice if police were more sensitive to other races? Unlike your false flags that “the Left” want’s to defund police, most just want common sense police reform. I doubt you have ever feared getting shot by police for getting pulled over or for jogging. Please consider that is a common fear for many people of color. This fear is reality based.

    We need the police. The Seattle police were defunded. The chief of police — a Black woman (!) — quit. You’d think if black lives really mattered her work and placement as first black female police chief would matter.

      3. Sad to say but our country has deteriorated morally. It’s been happening even before the 2016 election with extreme hatred towards our current president that is going nonstop.

        We can only hope the right people are being put in office so we can fix many of these problems that society has. Including giving the police the best resources they need to do their job correctly.

        Also I agree with many of the posters, get as far away from the city as you can. Being in any major city with criminals running free and with less or no police. It’s only going to get worse at least until people start kicking the politicians out of office that are not doing their jobs. You got to wonder why they haven’t done that already.

  31. If a thin blue line is all we need to keep our culture from chaos, we are already lost. There are not enough police in this country to do what’s needed when personal restraint is no longer a virtue.
    This is no longer about justice but about anarchy, regardless of the cost.

  33. To solve a problem in weeks or months, when these problems have taken generations to create… Personally, I do not like the phrase “Defund the Police”, though I agree that reallocating funds to programs which prevent future social problems would be wise.

    From what I heard on the radio the other day, for employees who could work on-line, 25% are white, 13% are Latinex, and 9% black. Also, a majority (don’t recall the number) of those who lost jobs during the pandemic are people of color. And, most of those who escaped cities (don’t recall the numbers) are white. Sales of country homes, RV’s, and boats, are up and mostly white people purchasing.

    That leaves the cities with greater percentage of furloughed/laid off and homeless folks looking for ways to survive, which unfortunately usually are deemed illegal. -Oscar

  39. Wow. I cannot believe the “take a knee” thing. What upsets me is that if I asked that clown if he thought DEMANDING random white women to take a knee and posting them without consent would inspire more allies or more friction he’d feel pretty small. I’m a Christian too and I think its challenging for us to find a way to champion the message of “black lives matter” while piggybacking with GODs Word that we are all made in His image. We are, but we haven’t been treated that way. And all of our siblings who know JESUS also know compassion. Compassion compels us to have sympathy to and the courage to “walk a mile” in someone else shoes. So we are tasked to always find ways to uplift and love on the oppressed. I just hope I (we – my tribe) still have you and other allies as allies when ignorance runs rampant. We need you guys more and not less, we need you guys stronger after that not weaker. I wish I could speak with that kid and get him to understand the error in his ways and how his ways detract from the message and alienate the allies we seek.
