Get to Know Me – Video!

Alright y’all.

Thought I’d lighten things up a bit tonight.

tumblr_mjf4xt19vr1roja4ko1_500

The past couple posts have been slightly on the more seriousΒ side, so I wanted to take a breatherΒ and introduce you to…well, me!
caralyn-best-2-1

I collected some of my favorite questions y’all have emailed/DM’d and had some fun answering. Everything from my writing processΒ to my trip to Sweden. I even bust out a British accent at one point…(and butcher it!)

Alright enough teasers! Let’s get into it.

Thanks for watching!

One more thing: If you like these videos, I’m going through my inpatient journal on PatreonΒ in a video series, “Journaling Through Recovery!”

Now it’s your turn! What’s the most unique thing about you? Or what’s your favorite food? Or the coolest place you’ve ever traveled? Let me know! xx

  1. Caralyn! That was fun! You already know a good bit about me. Especially my health…or lack thereof!

Favorite food? Julie’s lasagna! Better than any restaurant I’ve ever tried!

Has music made me cry? No, but the song that I and my best man wrote for her for our wedding reception made HER cry. Along with all the other ladies in the room. Including the waitresses. “She’s My Jewel” Rick had to enunciate very carefully when he sang it in the studio or it would come out “She’s my Jew.” I didn’t sing, because, well, Rick was a prodigy and I wanted it to sound GOOD! The studio had a synthesizer so we had a “Full orchestra!”

The one song that had the biggest impact on first hearing was Gordon Lightfoot’s “Don Quixote.” It was used for an opening sequence at a play I saw at the Univ. of Michigan. Can’t remember the play though.

I also saw Lightfoot in concert in Toledo, OH on his “Edmund Fitzgerald” tour. It’s his ballad about the sinking of that ship in Lake Superior. No survivors and many years before the wreck was every found. The captain and his family were from Toledo, so it was an incredibly charged atmosphere.

Did you get my email about my schedule this coming weekend? Let me know, OK?

  2. I’m shocked that you don’t plan your posts! That’s honestoy encouraging, since you do so much on here. I still will be more goal-oriented with my blog, but it’s awesome to see that you can be spontaneous in your posts.

Love your blog for real. I can’t wait to receive your video (small reminder πŸ˜‰πŸ˜πŸ˜‚).

    God bless you Carolyn!

  3. Hi Caralyn! I’m not sure which like better, the video or the happy cat gif. Just kidding! This was so fun to watch. It looked like you had lots of fun making it, too. It really struck me that you could be so positive when you were reflecting on your childhood memories, giving your anorexia a passing nod without dwelling there. I just returned from a rather challenging visit home to see my parents. It sort of mellowed some of my sourness to hear you laugh about your brothers tossing you on the couch and into the pool and to catch the “blooper” of the text from your mom. Thank you for sharing this little peek into your life!

    • Aw thanks Lulu:) you’re always so kind. I feel ya – going home can be hard. What helped me was that my bro and I would switch rooms when we’d all be home. The hardest part would always be my bedroom-all the old photos and memories that would take me back to a bad headspace. That and throwing away all the old clothes that ((thankfully!!)) no longer fit. Hallelujah for that! Thanks for watching. Have a beautiful night my friend xox

  4. I love the video Caralyn! And dem accents doe… #onpoint! πŸ˜€ My favourite food is sushi all the way and the best place I’ve travelled to is just any place my family and I go for a holiday. Please continue to make more videos! God bless! πŸ™‚

  5. Hey! Awesome video and thanks for giving some insight into your life and what makes up you and your personality πŸ™‚ it truly is a beautiful personality and I can only wish I was less camera shy–you obviously are not afraid to get in front of a camera. Honestly, if you were to look at my Facebook page, you would see that I am not exactly a good friend of the camera–there are very few photos of me haha! But what I miss in pictures there I definitely make up in my personality! But thank you for sharing more about yourself and keeping things lighthearted. Life isn’t always easy, but it’s the things in our life that brings us joy that makes the hard times worth it! Hope to hear more from you!

    ~Tom

    • Hey Tom! aw thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch:) haha what a kind thing to say. Don’t be so hard on yourself, my friend! πŸ™‚ But you’re so right – there’s a lot to be grateful for, and having people to share your life with is definitely one of those! Thanks for stopping by! hugs xox

  6. Loved the video. You are naturally funny! Ever think of going into comedy? Seriously though, I did love it. It’s great getting to see and know more of Caralyn as she goes and grows in recovery. Thanks so much.

But if you ever think about comedy…you’d be a natural!!! πŸ™‚

  7. I loved this videos so much! The pumpkin icecreamy thing sounds super good!! And the first thing I noticed about you was your hair… it’s super pretty. . Have a blessed day!❀

  9. I’m a new fan, all the way from Nairobi, Kenya. I’m not sure why we do that but I’ve noticed a lot of Internet folks from Africa like to do that ‘all the way from Africa’ intro. Love your blog and your intro video. Will be stopping by a lot.

  10. Hey BBB, that was very sweet, specially loved your expressions. Its a blessing to have a loving family, I am blessed too. For me the best place in the world would be anywhere where I am happy and forget all the not so nice things. I like your quick recipe you gave out πŸ™‚ , I am big fan of cashew…….good to know little things around you. Keep them on……Love, Vannie

    • Oh my gosh, thank you so much! You’re so sweet to take the time to watch and listen! I’m honored❀️hope you’re having an absolutely beautiful morning! Hugs and love xox

  11. So much encouragement in your story! Your journey has been quite the experience and Thank You for allowing mine eyes to share in the glimpses of your road. Your smile reflects that which truly radiates from within, because within you is contained the joy of live renewed! Again, Thank you.

  12. carolyn you are amazing, i know you hear many comments on here about you and what people think of you and such, but there is someone i think that loves you a lot, there is an energy on you that is so vibrant in love and intimacy, i feel it like im in love with you but i know that when i feel those energies on people its actually not me but someone elses thoughts / feelings about the person, so i want you to know you are hugely attractive to someone out there because of your intimacy with them in some way, whether its on the blog or in your home with a friend, i dont know, but it feels so good to watch your videos and read your posts at times and it makes me warm and feel invited to be intimate myself because of what i experience in your energy, it actually does something to my heart at times that ive never had before in that way that i am aware, the longing to be intimate with someone and i dont mean sexually either i mean in my heart and soul and body with all my heart towards opening up to you and sharing my mind and feelings and thoughts with you or someone other than you, i have not ever had this experience on the internet reading anyones blogs or anything for that matter, its strong and vibrant i love it thanks for your love carolyn be blessed and enjoy your life and day today.

    • Hey Michael! Oh my gosh what a kind note. Thank you. I am grateful that you would take the time to watch my videos and read my words. I’m glad it’s giving you good vibes:) hehe again, I appreciate the encouragement. Hugs xox

  13. This foto is …………… mhmm!!! πŸ˜€ It is possible to get addicted by your beauty… and I associate it somehow with this poem of Pablo Neruda… it is one of my most beloved poems…

    β€žEvery Day You Play
Every day you play with the light of the universe.
Subtle visitor, you arrive in the flower and the water.
You are more than this white head that I hold tightly
as a cluster of fruit, every day, between my hands.
You are like nobody since I love you.
Let me spread you out among yellow garlands.
Who writes your name in letters of smoke among the stars of the south?
Oh let me remember you as you were before you existed.
Suddenly the wind howls and bangs at my shut window.
The sky is a net crammed with shadowy fish.
Here all the winds let go sooner or later, all of them.
The rain takes off her clothes.
    The birds go by, fleeing.
    The wind. The wind.
I can contend only against the power of men.
    The storm whirls dark leaves
and turns loose all the boats that were moored last night to the sky.
You are here. Oh, you do not run away.
You will answer me to the last cry.
Cling to me as though you were frightened.
Even so, at one time a strange shadow ran through your eyes.
Now, now too, little one, you bring me honeysuckle,
and even your breasts smell of it.
While the sad wind goes slaughtering butterflies
I love you, and my happiness bites the plum of your mouth.
How you must have suffered getting accustomed to me,
my savage, solitary soul, my name that sends them all running.
So many times we have seen the morning star burn, kissing our eyes,
and over our heads the gray light unwind in turning fans.
My words rained over you, stroking you.
A long time I have loved the sunned mother-of-pearl of your body.
I go so far as to think that you own the universe.
I will bring you happy flowers from the mountains, bluebells,
dark hazels, and rustic baskets of kisses.
    I want
to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees.
    Pablo Nerudaβ€œ

  14. Hey BBB, I wanted to mention this to you-I don’t know what your music interests are, but I learned about an singer (from the blog Slippery Edge), James Vincent McMorrow. They featured his song/video ‘Rising Water’, which is excellent. But I read his About page on his website for his last CD, that was just released, and he talks about his struggle with an eating disorder (in the About section of his website)- http://www.jamesvmcmorrow.com/. I thought you might be interested πŸ™‚

  15. beautybeyondbones touches me, because as we all know, my favorite group has been the carpenters; and Karen Carpenter died due to anorexia. I am grateful that you are on the road to recovery.

More about me… I am actually a volunteer missionary youth pastor. I suffer from epilepsy, bipolar, severe boils and borderline personality. I find that reading blogs, and writing myself is a great inspiration to me. The Philippines is the greatest place I have ever been to. Sometimes though, I long to be back to Rochester, Indiana USA. I am married to a Filipino woman, and we have had two children, one lost in miscarriage at two months, and one son named Stanley.

I find that life is what we make it; it is not bowl of cherries, all the time. Sometimes life gives you a bowl of lemons. When life gives you a bowl full of lemons, you can either suck on the lemons, or add water, ice, and sugar to the lemons and drink a refreshing glass of lemonade. Thanks for your inspiration. Oh by the way, you remind me of Karen Carpenter. And you can never go wrong with the carpenters hehehe

  16. You are like a tulip amongst the flowers here and all of your facial expressions are like little arrows that fly over distant fields, they fly swiftly through the air and hit the bullseye of all of my spontaneous responses.

Stay strong in Jesus, stay strong in Love.

  17. I know you posted this a few days ago but I’ve been monstrously busy and just haven’t had the time to watch it until now. Super cute accents! (Funny story, after I was unwired from my jaw surgery, I couldn’t speak in my normal voice. I could only speak in a Texan accent. I had to work hard to get rid of it but it still slips out! XD) That moment when you were talking about the worship song and laugh-crying because you finally accepted Jesus’ forgiveness absolutely touched my heart. I’ve laugh-cried to so many songs on my phone because I really care about music and it really affects me. It seems like it’s the same for you. Isn’t the power of music just amazing? πŸ™‚

  18. I love your blog! But this video! πŸ˜ƒ Woman, you’re awesome! I’ve been thinking about starting to do videos on my feed, and you’ve really inspired me. πŸ˜ƒ I love the way you come across in the video as well, kinda shy but you’re just being you & putting it out there. I love it! Keep doing you, you wonderful girl, and I’m going to go find you on Instagram… How am I not already following you there??

  19. I really appreciate your blog. I am working with a team of youth and young adults to present an emotional first aid workshop. We want to educate, break the stigma, give hope. Can you recommend a short, youth orientated, awareness video on EDs?

  20. Love this vlog! Great! I feel like I am getting to know you a little better. I notice that you stop by my blog and “like” things that I write. Pretty awesome. πŸ™‚ Thanks for your honesty and you openness. Tonight you inspired me!

  21. A busy week kept me from replying, but now with my head above water..

factoid – I’m super into environmental sustainability. It’s a job and a my volunteer gig as well

food- dark chocolate πŸ˜€ And pizza (although I limit that far better than the chocolate!)

Coolest place ever traveled was Point Barrow, Alaska (pretty ugly), and Grindelwald Switzerland (absolutely amazing!)

useless info – I do impersonations. From Jimmy Stewart to Miss Piggy. And accents (Irish, British, Urdu, German, etc)

And really great shot of you in the pink dress. Oh, and the cat gif is adorable πŸ˜€
