Well, it’s Wednesday morning, and I’m just sitting in the terminal at JFK waiting to fly home to Ohio. I’m only going to be there for 48 hours…I booked a job, and the photo shoot is tomorrow!
So that’s exciting.
And since you all know my intimate travel secrets, I feel like you have a pretty good mental image of my current state!

So, in case you’re living under a rock, the royal wedding is this weekend. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. And I joke about living under a rock, but truthfully I had no idea it was this week until just yesterday. Haha
But people are obsessed with the Royal wedding. And rightfully so. I mean you’ve got an American television “star” marrying the ginger “bad boy” prince. Definitely headline news – “The New American Princess.” But gosh, you can’t pass a checkout line at the grocery store without seeing their faces on every magazine cover. Oh well, at least it’s giving us a break from the Kardashians.
But it’s funny because I feel like, just in the last 3 years or so, “princesses” have come under attack.
The Belles and Cinderellas of yore are now seen as antiquated, anti-feminist figures of yesterday that “glorify” tired and backwards storylines of women needing rescuing, or giving everything up for the man of her dreams.
And no surprise here, the current rejection of classic Disney makes me throw up a little in my mouth. Princesses aren’t bad for little girls! Heck. Would you rather your daughter look up to Belle? Or say, Kylie Jenner? There’s no competition.

But it’s an interesting phenomenon, this royal wedding. Especially the women – people are living for it. I have friends who are legit throwing viewing parties at 5:00 am on Saturday morning so they can watch it live.
Five o’clock in the morning!
But I think the reason we’re all so captivated by this wedding, is because, at least for us women, whether we like to admit it or not, there’s a small part in our heart that longs to be a princess. Some more than others. Clearly. But there’s a deep, inherent desire to be fought for, and chosen, and delighted in for our honor and beauty.
And that’s not wrong.
In fact, I believe that desire – that inherent nature – was placed in us by God.
Because as daughters of God – we are, by our birth, princesses. (And men, princes.)

But we watch as Meghan Markle wears the most exquisite wedding gown with the white gloves and veil, and the long train. It is magnificent. And the world holds its breath as her prince kisses her hand and promises to love and honor her forever.
It’s how every little girl dreams of being loved.
She dreams of being fought for. Being protected. Being one-of-a-kind.
But along the way, we lose that wonder. We feel undeserving of such splendor and celebration. We’ve messed up, failed, fallen short, compromised on so many things. We feel we no longer deserve that royal treatment.
But the fact is, that is what God wants for us. When He sees us, He doesn’t see our mistakes or failures. He sees a precious daughter that deserved to be celebrated in splendor – just like Meghan Markle.

I think it’s so important not to lose that idealistic and romantic longing in our heart. Sure, it’s important to be realistic. No man is Prince Charming, and in the world of Bumble, romance can seem all but dead.
But in a world where women fiercely compete to dominate the top spots on the corporate ladder, I think it’s important to never let that sacred spot in our hearts that knows we’re the King’s daughter become bogged down in the rat race. Obviously there’s nothing wrong with being a boss and having a kick-butt job – that’s also to be celebrated. But there’s a light and a hope that we – especially us women – carry with us when we live from the truth that we deserve that honor and royal dignity.
Because with it comes a responsibility. What is it about the royal princesses? I mean look at Kate – she carries herself with an inherent joy and regal presence. She gives of her time. Serves the people.

She knows that, from her position, she has the responsibility to share the blessings she has received from her relation to the King.
So to with us. As His sons and daughters, we are the earthly extension of our loving and gracious Father in Heaven. And everything we do – the things we say, the ways in which we treat others and how we act – they’re a direct reflection of Whose we are.

So Saturday, as we sip tea and eat crumpets before the sun rises, cheering on the new American princess, I invite you to just remember that you and I are just as worthy and deserving of the pomp and circumstance. To a heavenly degree.

Just as we are. He takes us. He claims us. He fought for us and rescued us.
We’re living the fairy tale and we don’t even know it.

I love the way you associated it all with God and who we are to Him. The Bible says, (not direct quote) but God crowns us with a golden crown. That God would humble Himself and love me enough to do that, just absolutely takes my breath away. Jesus wore a Crown of Thorns so we could wear one made of gold. Great post and be safe traveling. So many people wish the Monarchy would dissolve. I respect it. I have respected Queen Elizabeth for as long as I can remember. I remember her Silver Jubilee in the late 1970s. I remember how she handled herself when, horseback, somebody actually tried to assassinate her (they were nowhere near close). I remember the summer after my 6th Grade Year getting up for Charles and Diana. There’s a woman I always respected too. While I felt bad at how The Monarchy initially reacted at her death, I think it made them re-examine themselves. Queen Elizabeth came back in such a brighter light after that, especially when everybody watched her on world television, come out and embrace that one child with the flower. It was a sad day when The Queen Mother passed back aways. It will be sad when Elizabeth does. I hope this wedding is as beautiful as William and Kates. I respect other monarchies out there like Spain, and wherever else. You are right about God and daughters. They are precious in His eyes You certainly are and have become more glorious in your personal triumph’s than any princess fictional or factual!. Love and hugs always! I am sure you will have a gorgeous photo shoot! xoxoxoxoxo

Call me a watcher of the morning programs. They’re the ones, especially The Today Show., that really “get into the ups and downs of The British Monarchy”. Probably the biggest factor on the side of those who debate “against” its continued existence? Its cost. Its costs England some ridiculous amount to maintain it, given that its only a figurehead institution. I watched Charles and Diana’s Wedding. I was up for Andrew and Sarah Ferguson “Fergie”‘s but couldn’t watch it because I had summer music classes to go to. William and Kate’s was on a work day, and I actually couldn’t watch Harry and Meghan’s because I had to drive my daughter to orchestra. Plus we get one Canadian station on our cable and they cover them alot being that Canada is still a “tradtional” dominion of England. Its nice to see traditional things kept if they can be. More hugs and love to you beautiful! xoxoxoxo

Yeah, I didn’t really know either. I keep seeing headlines as I scan the London Daily Mail online, but figure I’ve got better things to do. The stories I’ve seen with the antics of the bride’s family has me expecting to see a picture of the trailer home where she grew up.
We’ve exchanged comments before about Wild at Heart and those “hard-wired” tendencies. However, not all guys are princes. I, for one, am a King. But I digress.
Maybe we focus too hard on the dresses and trappings. There’s too far to fall when times get hard, as have happened for Julie and I. We still love, but not always because we feel like it. We keep going because we promised before God. Not everyone understands promises anymore.
Google the poem “Delight in Disorder.” I read that in an English class my freshman year of college and thought it was perfect. Sometimes slightly awry is better than too perfect. And if you’ve never read the “Upon the King” speech from Shakespeare’s Henry V, give that a look too. It’s Henry’s lament at the weight of being king. Royalty is not always as grand as it seems.
Guys still want to be the hero. Girls still want to be rescued. I’m all for both of those! Just maybe without the gilded carriages!
And so true; we are God’s princes and princesses. After all, aren’t we the adopted siblings of The Prince of Peace?
Thanks for a fun article tonight, Caralyn. Always a pleasure!

Agreed. These long fairytales are hard to stand against the pro-everything atmosphere. They aren’t supposed to, they reach children when their worlds are still perfect. It would be a bit like tying your childhood to your future. Love itself, might be a fantasy it should be forever changing and constant. Astra inclinant, sed non obligant.

Within the prince/princess social system. As the fairytales do/did add to our society. We would have never met. I. Neither prince nor princess. I think, that may have been the larger conflict of mine growing up. I came from a culture already. When school came. We had the etiquette of fairytales. People then adopted their chosen roles and, I just looked on. Princes, fought like reality stars. Slap fights. There was no gradual grooming for the men. Even at Disneyland there is that unevenness to it. We can see and appreciate the princess spectacle but, what of this prince? Some guy in tights and shoulder pads? Does only clothes represent the values in the story? In reality, those that dress better are recognized as higher value and those that are beautiful more intelligent. The ruts in our emulation of what is masculine and the feminine counterpart are hardliners in royalty.

Excellent points. I am one who is far from perfect but I work toward this goal every day, knowing I can’t obtain it. Princes and Princesses are’t even perfect in the fairytales but their stories do provide some escape of reality to at least dream and pursue finer things in life. We, as God’s children, do have royalty in our veins and there is nothing greater – and it isn’t a fairytale. Also, I like Audible too and enjoy learning on the road.

“The things we say, the ways in which we treat others and how we act – they’re a direct reflection of Whose we are.” This reminds me of when Jesus calls out the pharisees in the bible– He calls them children of satan! Yes. Just yes to all of this post. I didn’t know the wedding was this weekend until yesterday either. And I’ve heard so much from guys lately about being attacked by women about equality when they opened a door for them that they don’t know if they should anymore or not. I make a point to smile brightly and say “Thank you” to any man who does. Because I like being treated like a princess, and even believing in equality, hey, a human did something nice for another human. That’s always something to be celebrated and grateful for.

As always Caralyn, you have such a special Holy Spirit gifting to take events to life, news items, and bring Scripture, God, Salvation into the writing. And you do it in a very genuine, loving, heartfelt way, explaining your thoughts and beliefs, not pushing anything onto anyone else,
I agree with you totally, as you refer to Believers in, and followers of Jesus Christ being Royalty. By His Spirit, Father God continually calls His best creation, men and women, to Himself through the Sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ.
As soon as we respond positively, acknowledging Jesus as Christ and Lord, surrendering to Him, we are instantly adopted as sons and daughters of the King of kings. He did it all, we just receive. That shows the Love of God completely.
Then, as it gets better, we look forward to the 2nd coming of the Messiah, Jesus the Christ, when He comes for, and takes all His followers Home to Heaven, there will be the Wedding Supper of the Lamb. Oh, what a Glorious time that will be, First, seeing Jesus, face to face. Then meeting family and friends who passed away earlier, who know Christ personally, meeting others from all over the world and through the centuries, followed by a special banquet.
Sorry for the run-on Caralyn, I get excited and the thoughts keep flowing.

Wow, another of your explosive “Truth News’ bombs. I think I’ve heard enough about fake news so I’m tuning in to your channel now. When God created Adam and Eve there was no need for the protector and protected mentality, so in accepting a foolish push for artificial equality is missing the point entirely. God looked down on a perfect created environment in Eden without threat anywhere on a perfect couple separate in function but equal in His eyes. Whether society chooses to classify men and women differently or not I fall in behind God’s viewpoint. If he sees men and women as separate but equal then lets leave it at that and not define equality our way. On the cross He gave his life for humans who want to continue their journey in heaven. No distinctions there in gender, race or whatever. However our sincerity in wanting an eternity with Him in a better place will be demonstrated in the lifestyle we choose down here. I think men’s libbers and women’s libbers are on shaky ground there, but then they probably don’t care if their political pressure creates more disfunction in an already disfunctional society. :).

As an american, it’s hard to not be fascinated by the royal family. My mom watched Charles and Diana’s wedding on TV. I watched parts of William and Kate’s wedding. As much as I admire Harry and Megan, I don’t plan on watching it on Saturday. I’ll catch up online. However, I love the spin you put on it! We are all perfect in God’s eyes – What a treasure.

You are such a pretty young lady, with spunk! Your posts have a way of drawing me in…with some innocence and especially the recognition of God and His amazing love and grace. You are a Princess of our King Jesus! Keep HIm in the center. Blessings!

Beautifully said! I will be up early (probably eating grits and bacon, not tea and crumpets) watching the wedding. It’s just the romance of it all that’s so wonderful. ‘The Nightingale’ is one of my favorite books that I’ve ever read.

Your post on the royal wedding was unlike any other comments pertaining to the upcoming nuptials. As a Canadian, the monarchy is more than celebrity, but is still part of our political system. Her representative, the Governor General, is still consulted, the Queen is our head of state. Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch surpassing Queen Victoria, and she is the Queen of Canada. Personally, the wedding is big news and I too will be awake along with my wife at 5:00 a.m. Your blog is great.
