When Words Fail

I don’t know about you, but one of the things that often stands in my way of praying, is that I don’t really know how. I don’t know the right things to say – I don’t feel quite worthy to “ask” for things. And sometimes it’s like — well it’s been so long, I’d probably offend God by just *showing up* after all the crap I’ve done and just expecting things to be chummy.

But the fact is, the enemy loves to keep us thinking that — reinforcing that roadblock to prayer — so as to keep us from praying.

Because our nation is in desperate need of prayer right now.

So I thought that today, I might put my “I-don’t-know-what-I’m-doing” prayer out there, just so that if you — like me — sometimes don’t know what to say, the concept of praying might not seem so insurmountable.

Oh, my Jesus….

I come before you broken hearted tonight.

– Broken hearted for our nation, in deep deep turmoil: plagued with violence, and pain, and fear and oppression.
– Broken hearted for George Floyd, and the injustice shown him, that led to his murder. For his grieving family and community.
– Broken hearted for my black brothers and sisters, who are so deeply hurting, and tired of facing daily injustices, that myself, and so many, know nothing about.
– Broken hearted for the good cops and law enforcement who are on the front lines, trying to protect the community, and stop the violence, and who are being met with bricks and knives and bullets and molotov cocktails from many who mean them harm.
– And broken hearted for the store owners, who have had their livelihoods ransacked by looters, and those partaking in criminal activity.

I am broken hearted, Lord. And I place all these things at the foot of your Cross.

The cross, where You paid the ultimate price for all of your children. Where you bought back our sins, and created the way for all of us to get to Heaven — no matter our skin color, background, race or nationality.

You died on that cross — and proved the dignity and sanctity — of every single human life.

And I just pray Lord, that You blanket all of your hurting children in the covering of your peace. Cover us with your love. With your mercy.

Give us hearts to truly love one another. Renew our hearts to be compassionate and empathetic. Give us eyes to really see those injustices and ears to truly hear — not only Your voice, calling us to You — but also the words and pains of those without voices.

We are all one family in Christ. Brothers and sisters — one body of Christ. One family of believers. And somewhere along the lines, we’ve forgotten that.

I know, Lord, that what will ultimately solve the unrest and heal our broken and wounded nation, is when we surrender our hearts to You to make new. And I just pray that you awaken in our hearts, a realization for our desperate need for You. And our desperate need for one another.

Strengthen our leaders, and give them the wisdom and fortitude to act according to Your guidance.

And may health, peace, justice, and Your love reign throughout our burning and torn apart land.

  2. I pray God that you would heal our nation and take away the pain of those hurting. I pray for all those afflicted with pain and persecuted, I ask Lord that you would uplift them and bring them into your healing presence. God I ask that you be with our leaders and police officers right now and you’d encourage them to do the right thing, your will and they would bring you glory. Thank you Jesus for your presence, your peace and protection. Thank you for loving all of us despite of ourselves. Thank you for choosing to give us life by sacrificing yourself on the cross. Help us Lord to take up our cross each and every single day. Help us to inspire others to come to faith and believe in you Lord. Thank you Jesus for our life. In Jesus’ name amen.

As Jesus said though “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ 7 I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”

    These are the one sheep that need that guidance, that support, that love. But what they don’t need is judgement. A time will come the world changes, a time will come that they no longer need to protest. But until that day I stand with them. No condemnation, no judgement. A voice of support and love when it’s needed most. It seems like dark days right now but there is light ahead, that healing will come.

    something I wrote before reading your post (total coincidence… or… ? I don’t rule out anything anymore), I often say my hand feels guided at times, it is really a strange thing inspiration, but the older I get I do feel luckier to be alive (a miracle) and I want more people to do the same, to grow old and experience as much as possible and share the joy of life, I think that underscores our experience here. or maybe I have indigestion (that was a moment of levity folks, cmon!)

  8. Thank you for sharing your prayers with us, as all prayers are beautiful to God Our Father. I love the spoken word and it brings me to tears to see people share words from their heart. Most of my prayers start out the same each day recently…..
    Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the countless blessings in my life as all good comes from you. Please forgive me of my sins and anything that has been displeasing to you. I ask for the Holy Spirit to come dwell within me and have an outpouring across our nation and our planet. Forgive those who are being lead astray and help your children show them Gods Love and Mercy. I pray for our President, our Vice President, and all our government leaders that they would seek your guidance. I pray for each of them to have a spirit of discernment on how to make decisions for our great nation and it’s people. Thank you for all those on the front lines during this uncertain time; those who work in hospitals and those who are committed to protecting us. I lift up every man, woman and child that casts their wants aside to demonstrate compassion to your creation. Help us to show love even when we feel anger. Help us to listen with our hearts and not just our ears. Help us to look past the surface and see each other as you see us. Guide us. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

    Lord heal this broken and hurting land. Let your light shine And disperse the darkness that has descended and threatens to destroy all that is good. Use us as vessels of your love and light and give us the courage to speak hope and truth to those lost in that darkness.
    Thank you for delivering us from the virus, dispel the fear and the lies that perpetuate the fear and forgive us for lashing out at one another in frustration. Only your love and your truth can heal the hearts of this land; that we acknowledge and seek.
    In Jesus name, the truth the light and the way, and in his name alone we pray— amen.

  13. God, forgive us. We have sinned against You, and we have taken justice into our own hands. We have broken man’s laws that You told us to obey.
    God, we have murdered because we perceived someone hated us.
    God, we have destroyed because we saw others doing it. We allowed anger, frustration, and a mob mentality to cloud our judgment.
    God, we laughed at the suffering of others.
    God, forgive us. We repent.
    God, forgive us for the injustices of humanity.
    God, forgive us for letting hate, anger, and frustration control and overtake us.
    God, forgive us for blaming others for the shortcomings in our own lives.
    God, help us.
    God, hear our cries, and don’t turn away from us.
    God, we are desperate for You.
    God, we restore peace and civility to our nation. God let us respect each other once again.
    God, place kindness, forgiveness, and love in our hearts for one another once again.
    God, turn our hearts that have become cold and stone into hearts of flesh.
    God, unroot all hate, frustrations, bitterness, anger, and blame from our hearts.
    Father, let love grow there instead.
    Father God, heal every broken heart and dissolve all fears and anxieties.
    God, help our nation recover for the destruction we have caused. God, help every person and family recover what was lost. Let their new livelihoods and businesses flourish like never before. God, let this recovery be quick.
    God, expose all those individuals behind this unrest. Expose all the lies told to us to make us pawns in their evil plans.
    God, let them be held accountable for all the death and destruction they caused with their lies and evil plans.
    God, if they did it for money or more power, expose that.
    Once You expose these things, God, we will not seek revenge on them. We will let You avenge your people instead.
    God, restore America quickly. God, bring back our jobs and livelihoods restore America back to Her glory.
    In the name of Jesus, we pray in agreement. Amen.

What I see for this world is for everyone to become aware of their connection to the Divine, however they see the Divine;Jesus, Buddha, God, etc. I see everyone becoming aware that through the Divine they are also connected to each other, for we are all in this together. And I pray that we begin to see the Divine within ourselves and within everyone we meet. We are all kindred souls no matter our race, gender, SES, occupation, past history or current situation. I pray that we can accept everyone who crosses our path for who they are in this very moment and treat them with kindness and compassion. And I pray that we can love ourselves, that we can know that we are loved beyond measure and that we are stronger, more capable than we think. Many blessings to you and to all!

  20. Dear Jesus, our nation is hurting and it is because they have forgotten you made all people from Adam. They are all one race and don’t realize it. It is not their color that gets a person in trouble or in jail. It is that person’s wrong actions. If they knew you, Jesus, they would not do things that are illegal. If they knew you, Jesus, they would love their neighbors as themselves, just as you told them to. Forgive us as a nation for turning our back on you, Jesus.   23. Very needed prayer! Lord God, please heal the hearts that are broken and comfort the families that are mourning in Jesus name. Please help us to see, to hear and to know what we must know in Jesus Christ. Father, forgive us for our sins and our silence on every matter that we needed to pray for, speak about or against. Lord Jesus, open the eyes to our heart, and help us too, Jesus, to love others as you commanded us to in Jesus name. Thank you Abba. Amen!
